If I could go back to when I first started bass fishing and give myself five pieces of advice, these are the things I’d say. I wasted money on tackle I didn’t need. I thought I needed every new lure. I fished too fast. I didn’t always understand how important location and seasonal patterns were. And, probably most importantly, I took way too long to develop confidence in the baits I was using. Sometimes a fishing derby doesn't go the way you planned. Actually, sometimes nothing goes the way you planned — especially when you're running an Evinrude that decides to play Russian roulette with your confidence.
