Sleep 8 Hours and Still Exhausted? Magnesium and Recovery | Wade Lightheart
2026/10/05
Getting 8 hours of sleep and still waking up exhausted? You're tired enough to need coffee to get through the day, then somehow still too wired to switch off at night. You add magnesium, track your sleep, clean up your routine... and still wake up wondering why your body doesn't feel recovered. 💧 One drop, no noise, just habits to upgrade each week: https://amber-berger.kit.com/newsletter Some links are affiliate links or partner brands, and I may earn a commission. I only share products I use. This content is for education only and is not medical advice. Talk to your healthcare provider before changing medications, supplements or treatments. In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Wade Lightheart, co-founder of BIOptimizers, to look at one of the most overlooked pieces of that cycle. We get into what most people don't realize about magnesium, why eating well doesn't always mean you're getting what you think you're getting, and what may be happening long before bedtime that makes sleep harder. Then Wade makes a distinction between sleep and recovery that changes the whole conversation. If you're getting the hours, taking the supplements and still waking up tired, the question may not be how to sleep more. It may be what your body has been missing all along. What's Discussed: (00:00) Introduction (06:20) Why midlife can expose what your body used to compensate for (11:21) What changed about our food supply and why it matters (22:25) Why you need to become the CEO of your own health (28:05) The magnesium gap many people may be overlooking (30:45) Why a sleep problem may actually start somewhere else (44:51) What your sleep tracker can't tell you (58:34) Wade's one drop of wellness wisdom *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Chronic Pain Relief in Midlife: The Wellness Technology Hidden Inside an Everyday T-Shirt - Brian Burzynski, Intelligent Threads (Episode 135)
2026/09/21
Has this started happening in midlife? A knee suddenly hurts. Your hip feels different. You wake up with a stiff neck and cannot point to anything you actually did. It is easy to blame age when pain seems to come out of nowhere, but what if what you are feeling today has a history you have not connected to it yet? In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Brian Burzynski, founder of Intelligent Threads, to talk about the patterns he has seen after 25 years of working hands-on with the body and why pain is not always as straightforward as we assume. We get into old injuries, repetitive movement, the way the body adapts over time, and the clues that may be worth looking at before you decide a new ache is simply part of getting older. Then the conversation goes somewhere I did not expect. Brian took what he learned from working with the body and turned it into a wellness technology built directly into clothing and bedding. No battery. Nothing to charge. It looks completely ordinary. I had already experienced the demo myself, so I wanted answers: what exactly is happening, why put it into a T-shirt, and could something you already wear or sleep on become part of your wellness routine without adding another thing to your day? What’s Discussed (08:48) Why pain can suddenly feel different in midlife, even when there was no big injury. (09:18) The mistake we make when we assume pain has to begin where we feel it. (10:19) What an old injury or repetitive movement may still be doing years later. (11:23) The hidden tension Brian looks for when pain seems to have no obvious explanation. (13:17) The moment this conversation shifts from body mechanics to a technology built into a regular T-shirt. (16:23) The demo Amber tried that made her want a much better explanation. (21:34) Why the hours you already spend sleeping became one of the most interesting parts of this conversation. If your first reaction is “wait... how is a shirt supposed to do that?” That is exactly why I wanted this conversation. It Was Never ‘Mommy Brain’: Why You Cannot Remember Your Best Friend’s Kid’s Name
2026/09/07
Have you ever walked into a room and completely forgotten why you went in there, or blanked on the name of someone you have known for years and thought, “What is wrong with me?” It is easy to laugh it off as “mommy brain,” being scattered, doing too much, or just getting older. I did that too, until the forgetting started happening in ways I could no longer brush aside. For me, it started with objects. Then words. Then names. And girl, when you suddenly cannot remember the name of your best friend’s kid, someone you have known for years, it hits differently. What I did not realize at first was how many little ways I had learned to cover for it, to laugh it off, let someone else fill in the blank, or work around the fact that my recall was changing. In this solo episode of The Well Drop, I am talking about the side of perimenopause women do not talk about enough: recall loss. I am sharing the moment I knew this was no longer something I wanted to dismiss, what I learned after years of tracking my own hormones, why I chose HRT even when my standard blood work looked “normal,” and the simple things I want every woman in midlife to start paying attention to now. What’s Discussed: (0:05) Why “mommy brain” may be the wrong explanation for what is happening to your memory. (3:17) The 3-stage pattern of recall loss most women do not know about. (5:57) The airport mistake that made me realize this was more than ordinary forgetfulness. (10:30) How my recall went from taking half a day to coming back within seconds. (18:23) 3 ways I would start supporting my brain in midlife. (22:11) Why changing hormones can change how your body responds to the exact same food. (31:05) How you can drop hard from your own baseline and still fall inside the “normal” range. PEMF for Midlife: A Simpler Way to Support Sleep, Stress, and Recovery - Byanka McClain - HAELO (Episode 133)
2026/08/24
If your body feels like it is always switched on, being told to “just relax” is not exactly helpful. Midlife already comes with enough stress, disrupted sleep, travel, workouts, work, family, and mental load. The bigger question is: how do you actually help your body recover when slowing down is not always realistic? In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Byanka McClain, CFO of HAELO, to talk about PEMF, or Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, and why this has become one of the few wellness tools I keep reaching for at home. I know PEMF can sound a little futuristic, so we break down what it actually is, how the technology has evolved from big clinical machines into something you can use from your couch, and why I started paying much more attention to it for sleep, stress, travel, and recovery. Byanka McClain has been part of HAELO since 2019, helping take the company from early R&D into the at-home system it is today. She is also a working mother of three, so this conversation is very much about making recovery fit into real life. We get into what women should know before trying PEMF, the different ways people are using it, and why the most useful wellness routine may be the one that asks the least from you when your body already feels maxed out. What’s Discussed (09:34) The decades-old recovery technology most women still have never heard of. (10:50) What is actually happening when PEMF interacts with the body, and why frequency matters. (15:43) Why Amber started noticing that travel hits differently in midlife, and what she reaches for afterward. (16:34) The one change HAELO users report noticing most often. (22:15) What constant “go mode” may be doing to your ability to truly recover. (24:35) How PEMF can be used differently depending on what your body needs that day. (33:11) Why the real results may come from what happens after you stop expecting an instant fix. If recovery has started feeling harder than it should, you are going to want to hear this one. The Hidden Hormone Disruptors Affecting Women at Every Age - Dr. Lindsey Berkson (Episode 132)
2026/08/10
Hormone health has become more confusing than ever. Women are doing everything they can to eat well, exercise, and support their bodies through perimenopause and menopause, yet many still struggle with fatigue, brain fog, stubborn weight changes, inflammation, and symptoms that never seem to improve. So what are we overlooking? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Lindsey Berkson to explore why hormone health has become more complicated and why looking only at hormone levels may leave important questions unanswered. We get into the broader forces shaping how hormones behave, the reason some women respond differently to the same plan, and what may need to be considered before assuming the answer is simply more testing, more supplements, or a higher dose. Dr. Lindsey Berkson is a nutritionist, functional medicine clinician, hormone researcher, bestselling author of more than 20 books, and a pioneer in women's hormone health. For decades, she has educated both healthcare professionals and patients on bioidentical hormones, endocrine disruption, environmental medicine, and healthy aging, helping reshape the conversation around women's health. What's Discussed 02:11 Why hormones act as the body's communication system and influence nearly every tissue in the body 16:19 How endocrine-disrupting chemicals can interfere with healthy hormone function 19:41 Why hormone changes are becoming more common in younger women 31:23 The role water quality and everyday environmental exposures play in hormone health 42:10 Dr. Berkson shares her personal breast cancer and hormone replacement journey 47:28 Why estrogen became one of the most misunderstood hormones in women's health 01:03:01 How to find knowledgeable hormone providers and become a stronger advocate for your own health If you have ever wondered why supporting your hormones feels more complicated than it should, this conversation will help you better understand the bigger picture and the practical steps you can take to support your health. Tap Water Contaminants: The Hidden Cause of Low Energy and Hormone Disruption with Jane Emma, The Goodfor Co. (Ep 131)
2026/07/27
Have you ever wondered if the water coming out of your tap is quietly working against your health? We are made up of roughly 60% water, yet most of us were never taught what clean water actually means, or how much it affects our energy, hormones, skin, and overall wellness. In this episode, I am joined by Jane Emma, founder of The Goodfor Co., a company rethinking water quality and hydration at home. We get into the real difference between filtered and purified water, why chlorine and chloramine exposure adds up over time, the truth about electrolyte packets and whether they actually help, and what structured water is and why your body already recognizes it. If you have ever felt low energy, foggy, inflamed, or just off, this conversation will help you reconnect with the most fundamental wellness habit there is. (00:00) Why hydration is one of the most overlooked wellness upgrades(04:24) Using the EWG database to check your local water quality by zip code(06:09) The real difference between filtered and purified water(08:50) How much water you actually need and whether electrolyte packets help(16:26) Why your shower may be exposing you to more chlorine than your tap water(17:17) The certifications to look for before investing in a filtration system(21:49) The link between chlorine exposure and breast tissue findings(25:56) Why pharmaceuticals and hormones can end up in your water supply(31:22) What structured water is and why your body already recognizes it(40:26) The top three things to consider before investing in a water system Sign up for The Well Drop Newsletter: Check out The Well Drop approved products and brands at amberberger.me/products  Find out more about Amber Berger:  Website: http://thewelldrop.com   Instagram: @thewelldrop Find out more about Jane Emma (The Goodfor Co.):  Website: https://thegoodforco.com   Instagram: @thegoodforco   Facebook: https://facebook.com/thegoodforco  THE WELL DROP
The WellDrop Method: The Midlife Wellness Roadmap I Wish Someone Had Given Me (Episode 130)
2026/07/13
Have you ever reached midlife and wondered why the habits that kept you feeling strong for years suddenly do not seem to be working anymore? You are tracking your food, exercising harder, pushing through exhaustion, and doing everything you were told to do, yet your sleep, energy, metabolism, stress tolerance, and body all feel different. In this solo episode, I am introducing The WellDrop Method, the five-part framework I created after realizing that midlife requires a different wellness strategy. We talk about what to track beyond the number on the scale, how to work with your cycle instead of pushing through every day the same way, which daily habits and home exposures may be affecting how you feel, and why hormones and peptides make more sense when a strong foundation is already in place. This is the roadmap I wish someone had handed me before my body started playing by a completely different set of rules.   What’s Discussed (00:00) Why the wellness habits that worked before midlife may stop giving you the same results (03:12) Framework 1: Tracking the data that matters beyond calories and the scale (06:07) Framework 2: Working with your cycle to support energy, movement, and recovery (07:31) Framework 3: Upgrading the daily habits that affect sleep, cortisol, and how your body responds (09:36) Framework 4: Creating a healthier home environment without trying to change everything overnight (11:05) Framework 5: Why hormones and peptides should come after the foundation (13:14) Turning awareness into alignment, action, and ownership with a personalized midlife roadmap You do not need to keep adding more effort to a strategy that no longer fits your body. Listen now to learn how to focus on what matters, make more informed wellness decisions, and build a plan that supports the way you want to feel through midlife and beyond. Skin Longevity: Why Skin Health Is More Than Skincare - Young Goose (Episode 129)
2026/06/29
Skincare has officially entered the wellness conversation, but that also means it has entered the marketing machine. Words like longevity, clean, cellular, barrier, pro-aging, and skin wellness are everywhere now. But how do you know when a product is actually supporting long-term skin health, and when it is just using the language of wellness to sell you something? In this episode, we get into what skin longevity really means, why repair capacity matters, why your skincare routine may need to evolve in midlife, and how to think beyond instant results when choosing products that are meant to support your skin for the long term. Joining me for this conversation are Amitay Eshel and Anastasia Khodzhaeva of Young Goose, a science-forward skincare brand built around skin repair capacity, mitochondrial support, NAD+ optimization, and protocol-based skincare. Their work focuses on bringing biohacking principles into topical skincare through evolving formulations, clinical-level ingredients, user data, and education that helps consumers understand what they are putting on their skin and why it matters. What’s Discussed: 02:28 – Why skin longevity starts with repair capacity, not quick fixes 05:47 – How skincare brands use wellness language to follow whatever trend consumers are buying into 10:23 – How to tell whether a product is backed by real formulation, data, and science instead of just marketing 17:48 – Why “longevity” is becoming the new clean, vegan, or natural in beauty marketing 22:00 – How long it can take to see real changes from a skincare routine 34:20 – Why your 30s skincare routine may start to feel different in midlife 55:10 – Myth or must: salmon sperm facials, exosomes, beef tallow, castor oil, and what is actually worth questioning Listen to learn how to see past skincare well-washing, understand what your skin needs to repair as you age, and choose products that support long-term skin health instead of chasing the next beauty trend. Wellness Real Estate: How Your Home's Light, Air & Water Change How You Feel — Diana Ulis (Ep 128)
2026/06/15
Wellness does not have to be another appointment, routine, or thing you have to squeeze into an already full day. Sometimes the biggest shift starts with the environment you come home to: the light in your space, the air you breathe, the water you drink, the materials around you, and whether your home helps your body soften or stay on alert. In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Diana Ulis to talk about a part of wellness we do not always think about first: the home. We get into wellness real estate, invisible wellness, and why feeling better does not always have to come from doing more. Sometimes it comes from changing the signals your environment is sending you every single day. Diana Ulis is the developer behind The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Fort Lauderdale Beach, a project I have had the privilege of helping shape as Chief Wellness Advisor. Her approach to this residence is rooted in intentional living, from natural light, clean water, better air, calming materials, and indoor/outdoor flow to privacy, community, and the kind of effortless wellness that works quietly in the background. What’s Discussed: (01:21) How Diana’s personal approach to intentional living shaped the wellness vision behind the project. (02:40) Why wellness real estate needs to move beyond the spa and gym. (04:18) How light, water, air, layout, flow, and materials became part of the residence design. (07:08) Why clean, mineralized, and structured water became one of the biggest wellness upgrades. (12:14) What invisible wellness means and why the healthiest parts of a home often work quietly in the background. (20:06) How boutique privacy, community spaces, water access, and walkability support a more connected lifestyle. Cellular Health First: Why Your Supplements Aren't Working — Jessica Kane Berman, BodyBio (Ep 127)
2026/06/01
Wellness advice can make it feel like there is always one more thing you should be taking. Electrolytes for hydration. NAD for longevity. Hormone support for perimenopause. Probiotics for gut health. But when you are already doing the things and still feel tired, foggy, bloated, inflamed, hormonally off, or like your body is not bouncing back the way it used to, it brings up the question most people are quietly asking: Why is none of this working the way I thought it would? In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Jessica Kane Berman of BodyBio to unpack that question through the lens of cellular health. We talk about why your cell membranes, mitochondria, minerals, gut lining, fatty acids, and liver support may affect how your body responds to everything else you are doing, from hormone support and electrolytes to NAD, gut health, detox, and longevity tools. Jessica Kane Berman is the Chief Brand Officer and co-owner of BodyBio, a third-generation family business focused on science-backed supplements that support health at the cellular level. With a background in brand building, wellness, and family business, Jess helps make complex cellular health science easier to understand so you can make more informed decisions about what you put in your body. What’s Discussed: (05:35) Why cellular health matters for energy, resilience, prevention, and longevity. (08:01) Why quick fixes may not work if your cells need support first. (11:21) How cellular health connects to perimenopause, menopause, and hormone processing. (14:02) What to look for in electrolytes and why liquid minerals may matter. (20:13) What PC is and why cell membranes matter for toxins, mitochondria, and aging. (22:46) Why NAD and other longevity tools may not work well if your cell membranes are damaged. (31:30) How to choose better supplements in a crowded wellness space. Listen to this episode of The Well Drop to understand why your supplements may not be giving you the results you expected, how cellular health affects energy, hormones, gut health, and longevity, and what to look at before adding another wellness trend to your routine. Why Intimacy Changes in Midlife (and What to Do About It) Low Libido & Vaginal Dryness— Sally Mueller, Womaness (Ep 126)
2026/05/18
If your body has started feeling unfamiliar in midlife, your sleep is off, your libido has changed, your skin feels drier, or intimacy feels different, it is easy to think it is stress, aging, or something wrong with you. But the harder truth is that no one prepared you for how much estrogen decline can affect your body, your confidence, and even your relationship, so you are left trying to make sense of changes that should have been explained to you years ago. We dive deeper into this in The Well Drop with Sally Mueller. We also chat about how to recognize which symptoms may actually be tied to hormonal changes, what vaginal and skin care should look like in midlife, and how to find the right support, products, and conversations so you stop guessing and start caring for your body with clarity. Sally Mueller is the co-founder of Womaness and spent over 24 years building and scaling major consumer brands, including leadership roles at Target. After experiencing perimenopause herself and seeing how few modern, effective solutions existed for women in midlife, she built Womaness to address the symptoms women were not being prepared for, making her a credible voice on what women actually need during this stage. What’s Discussed: (3:50) Why libido loss is the most unspoken struggle (5:10) The connection between estrogen, dryness, and UTIs (6:25) Why these changes are affecting relationships more than women realize (9:14) How estrogen impacts your skin from head to toe (11:36) Why midlife skin suddenly feels dry and harder to manage (17:06) The difference between lubricants and vaginal moisturizers (18:35) Why vaginal hydration should be part of daily care (21:15) Reframing midlife as a powerful second chapter (24:46) The first steps to take when your body starts to feel off (26:21) Why you may need to find a different doctor (27:30) How hormones affect your entire body, not just one symptom (31:00) The role of community and real support in midlife Listen to this episode of The Well Drop and finally connect the dots on why your body feels different, why certain symptoms are showing up now, and what you can actually do about them so you are not left second-guessing yourself, your health, or your relationship.  Sign up for The Well Drop Newsletter Check out The Well Drop approved products and brands at amberberger.me/products Find out more about Amber Berger:  Website: http://thewelldrop.com Instagram: @thewelldrop Find Out More About Sally Mueller:  Instagram: @thesallym THE WELL DROP

If you have been doing everything right in midlife and still struggling with weight gain, brain fog, and fatigue that nothing seems to fix, you are not failing your health. (26:51) Why bioavailability matters more than most people realize and how to know if what you are taking is actually working. (28:02) The role of muscle in healthy aging and why it is the most overlooked biomarker in midlife wellness. The Menopause Gut: Why Fixing Hormones Without Your Gut Never Works — Cynthia Thurlow (Ep 123)
2026/04/06
Somewhere between the broken sleep, the shifting weight, the brain fog, and the feeling that their body no longer responds the way it used to, women in midlife are told their labs look normal and that this is simply what aging feels like. So they eat less, exercise more, push harder, and blame themselves, not realizing that the “healthy” fixes they have been told to rely on may be making an already strained system even harder to stabilize. What nobody warned them about is that the gut microbiome shifts right alongside hormones in midlife, and that shift is quietly driving every symptom they cannot get a straight answer for. Fixing the hormones without fixing the gut is like patching one hole in a sinking boat, and the boat is still going down. In this episode of The Well Drop, I sit down with Cynthia Thurlow to unpack what is actually happening during this transition, why hormones are only part of the story, and what women need to do differently if they want to start feeling like themselves again instead of just being told to tolerate it. Cynthia Thurlow is a nurse practitioner who trained at Johns Hopkins, spent 16 years in clinical cardiology, and has worked with tens of thousands of women navigating perimenopause and menopause over the last decade. She is the host of the Everyday Wellness podcast and the author of the new book The Menopause Gut. That depth of both conventional medical training and real world clinical experience with women's midlife health is exactly what makes everything she shares in this episode worth trusting. What's Discussed: (04:07) Why women are rarely told that the gut changes as hormones change in midlife. (04:27) What the gut microbiome is and why it influences far more than digestion. (05:51) Why so many women grew up knowing menopause, but not perimenopause. (06:15) The six- to ten-year window of chaos that catches women off guard. (07:36) Why heavy cycles and midlife symptoms are often treated without addressing the root cause. (09:33) How the conventional medical model handles symptoms well, but often misses prevention and deeper chronic patterns. (12:20) What women are rarely told about the gut’s role in immunity, bone health, and hormone-related change. (15:33) Why sleep, stress, and nutrition matter more than a “magic” gut fix. (18:17) Why perimenopause becomes a litmus test for how well your lifestyle is actually supporting you. (22:42) Why women feel so blindsided when what used to work suddenly stops working. (23:33) Cynthia’s early signs of perimenopause, from anxiety and poor sleep to irritability and weight resistance. (26:54) Why midlife weight gain often shows up in the midsection, and the role cortisol plays in that shift. (29:07) How chronic stress, leaky gut, autoimmunity, and midlife symptoms become deeply connected. (31:23) Why less can be more in midlife when it comes to exercise, recovery, and cortisol load. (40:40) How generational stress, childhood adversity, and a dysregulated nervous system can shape gut health and menopause timing. If your labs are normal but your body still feels off, this episode is for you. Blood Sugar: The Hidden Driver of Belly Fat, Brain Fog & 3am Wake-Ups in Midlife — Boris Berjan, Theia Health (Ep 122)
2026/03/23
When women in midlife experience afternoon energy crashes, wake up at 3am for no reason, or watch belly fat accumulate despite nothing changing, the first thing we blame is hormones. But what if your hormones are not the root cause, and everything you have been chasing has been one step removed from what is actually driving it all? In this episode of The Well Drop, I sat down with Boris Berjan, co-founder of Theia Health, to talk about the real root cause behind the most frustrating midlife symptoms. It starts with your blood sugar, and once you understand how quietly it shifts without you ever feeling it, the way you think about every symptom you have been trying to fix will never be the same. Boris Berjan is the co-founder of Theia Health and has spent years studying glucose patterns across thousands of users, giving him a rare front-row seat to how blood sugar dysregulation actually shows up in real women's bodies before it ever appears on a lab result. His work sits at the intersection of metabolic science, wearable technology, and behavior change, making him one of the most practical voices in the space for women who want answers, not just data. What's discusses: (00:44) Why stubborn belly fat, brain fog, afternoon crashes, and 3am wake-ups are not just hormonal (04:59) Why you cannot feel when blood sugar dysregulation begins and why that is the problem (06:31) The scientific studies showing women age most at 44 and again at 60 (09:15) Boris's personal health journey and what led him to build Theia (23:04) How Theia's scoring system makes metabolic data immediately understandable (33:51) Why fasting the same way every day works against your cycle and your blood sugar (35:09) Why your glucose spikes even when you eat zero carbs (37:01) How sleep, stress, and a difficult conversation before a meal affect your blood sugar (39:08) Where CGM technology is heading and what it will mean for women in midlife (42:30) Boris's one drop of wellness wisdom for every woman listening If your labs are normal but your body still feels off, this episode is for you.
