We take another brief interlude to take a look at the new Adventures in Ankh-Morpork Discworld Roleplaying game from Modiphius. (Who's name I'm sure I mispronounce every time I say it!) We have a look at the new books, some of the dice and extras that came with the Kickstarter, and talk about who this game is aimed at and should you pick it up!   You can find the Podcast on: Facebook: www.facebook.com/DiningTableDiscworld BlueSky: dtdiscworld.bsky.social E-Mail: [email protected] Our intro and outro music is Beyond Infinity by user BlenderTimer on Pixabay.

The Amazing Maurice (a smart cat) and his Educated Rodents (a clan of smart rats) are planning one last rat-piper con job, but the town of Bad Blintz was a bad place to pick. The smart rats are figuring out how they fit in the world, the smart cat reckons he just wants the money, the stupid-looking kid turns out to have a name, and the Mayor's fanciful daughter has read way too many books. Meanwhile there's something nasty underground, and not just the shady rat fighting ring. We discuss this first Discworld foray into YA and various talking animal books it might be in conversation with. Cohen the Barbarian and the Silver Horde are on a great, last quest, which endangers the Discworld, prompting Ankh-Morpork's first space mission. We discuss this illustrated book, described as a Discworld Fable, which displays the talents of Paul Kidby. Turns out Dave likes Rincewind when he's not running away. Cathy spots a Monty Python reference in an illustration of dragons. The universe is going to end, as soon as the glass clock strikes and it's a race against, well... Time, to either create or destroy it. We discuss how Susan is Death's unwitting loophole, and needs some friends who are grown women. We celebrate the History Monks, possibly an answer to internet pedants. We consider how Pratchett might have built on ideas from a previous book.   You can find the Podcast on: Facebook: www.facebook.com/DiningTableDiscworld BlueSky: dtdiscworld.bsky.social E-Mail: [email protected] Our intro and outro music is Beyond Infinity by user BlenderTimer on Pixabay.

Join us as we discuss The Truth (the Discworld novel, not the concept). A new cast of characters, a fresh viewpoint on the Watch and the explosion of movable type and the Press in Ankh-Morpork. With digressions about our own history with newspapers, printing on the Disc, and how aristocrats running newspapers doesn't feel fantastical.   You can find the Podcast on: Facebook: www.facebook.com/DiningTableDiscworld BlueSky: dtdiscworld.bsky.social E-Mail: [email protected] Our intro and outro music is Beyond Infinity by user BlenderTimer on Pixabay.

Vampires, werewolves and dwarves, oh my! Vimes is reluctant ambassador to Uberwald, Cheery brings dwarven femininity back home, Angua runs off to deal with her terribly family and so Carrot follows her. Meanwhile Sergeant Colon becomes dictator of the sugar cubes and Lady Sybil would just like a quiet moment alone with her husband. In this first part we discuss dwarf culture and werewolf-style fascism. Part 2 coming soon. It's witches vs vampires in Lancre, and where is Granny Weatherwax? Carpe Jugulum looks at the roles of witches and the difficult, hidden choices that communities need someone to make. There's also examination of how vampires crave and use power over people, which is very relevant now fascism is on the rise. We discuss how this book acts as a low key sequel to Small Gods, as well as being the last in the Lancre Witches sequence. In a book described by its creator as "a bit Australian" Rincewind travels erratically through a dry, red continent. He meets a lot of people mostly trying to avoid being a saviour, aided and pursued by a shape-shifter that's usually a kangaroo. Ponder Stibbons despairs of the older wizards when the Faculty gets stuck on a mysterious island in the distant past.   We discuss our own limited knowledge of Australia, why we prefer the wizards a bit more diluted and how the UU functions as a container for folk better kept away from everyone else.   You can find the Podcast on: Facebook: www.facebook.com/DiningTableDiscworld BlueSky: dtdiscworld.bsky.social E-Mail: [email protected] Our intro and outro music is Beyond Infinity by user BlenderTimer on Pixabay.

We discuss the live action, TV adaptation of Hogfather. Including what's changed from the book, how menacing Mark Warren is, and the quality of the visuals. Suddenly Ankh-Morpork is keen to go to war, which is bad news for those trying to keep the peace. Vimes chases a suspect out of his element and learns something about big crimes and little crimes. Meanwhile, on special assignment, Nobby gets in touch with his feminine side, and Colon hopefully learns something. We discuss how this book is instructive for white kids from the English countryside, how sadly it keeps being relevant, and whether you can even have jingoism without an empire. We look back on the last 10 Discworld novels, plus the first half of the series. Including discussion of how sometimes books need to hit you at the right time in your life, how Granny Weatherwax is like Superman, and why we have a clear least favourite. We also add much-needed context to our Maskerade episode since we have learned more. Death is covering for a festive anthropomorphic personification, coming down the chimney with presents, a cushion up his robe and attempted jollity. Despite wanting to be normal, Susan investigates what's happened to the Hogfather and discovers something that'll set your teeth on edge. Meanwhile the wizards are finding unusual household spirits popping into existence. We discuss Christmas - er Hogswatch- traditions, cool mythic stuff, and how Pratchett masters both profound statements about humanity and dodgy puns. There's yet another royal conspiracy in Ankh-Morpork and Vimes is desperately trying to figure out where the arsenic is coming from. Meanwhile a competent, new Watch officer is breaking new ground both personally and professionally. Plus the city's golems are up to something. With tangents about the British Civil Wars and the increasing number of food banks in the UK right now. We do discuss jokes and puns too.
