Description

The Post-Separation Abuse Podcast Hosted by Danielle Black A no-fluff, evidence-based podcast for parents navigating post-separation abuse, family violence, coercive control, and high-conflict separation and divorce - with a relentless focus on protecting children in a system that too often fails them. Hosted by Danielle Black, Australia’s leading specialist in child-focused post-separation parenting, this podcast is not about "amicable co-parenting at all costs", outdated ideologies, or adult notions of fairness. It is about understanding how abuse frequently continues through parenting arrangements after separation - and what genuinely child-centred decision-making looks like when risk, fear, or power imbalance is present. Each episode challenges the myths that place children in harm’s way, including Australia’s dangerous obsession with 50/50 shared care, the misapplication of "friendly parent" ideals, and the expectation that protective parents should endlessly compromise to keep the peace. Drawing on developmental science, research-based evidence, trauma-informed practice, and lived experience, Danielle breaks down: How post-separation abuse actually operatesWhy many standard parenting frameworks fail children in high-conflict casesWhat evidence-based, defensible, child-focused parenting really requiresHow to move from confusion and self-doubt to clarity and confidence This podcast is for parents who are done minimising risk, done being gaslit by systems and professionals, and done prioritising adult comfort over children’s safety and development. Expect direct language, research-backed insight, practical guidance and a few cuss words here and there - not platitudes, false balance, or pressure to accept arrangements that don’t sit right - because children’s wellbeing matters more than adult fairness. Always. To go deeper, explore The Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™, Danielle’s flagship program supporting parents to make informed, protective decisions after separation. 89. Meet Senior Coach Brigid Morgan: Protective parenting and post-separation empowerment in Australia
2026/02/04
In this episode, Danielle is joined by Senior Coach Brigid Morgan for a warm, honest conversation about post-separation recovery, protective parenting, and why evidence-based, child-focused support matters. We start with a light-hearted chat (morning person or night owl? coffee or tea? beach or mountains?) before moving into deeper conversation about Brigid’s personal post-separation journey, what led her into coaching, and why she is passionate about helping parents step into their role as the expert on their own child. Brigid shares: • Why spending large amounts on legal processes doesn’t always guarantee child-focused outcomes • How coaching supported her to fully embody her protective-parent role • Her first impressions of the Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™ - including why Australian-specific, evidence-based resources are so rare and so needed • Why the Blueprint is designed to support parents across the journey - not as a course to “consume,” but as a resource to return to when needed As always, this episode is not legal advice and not therapy. If you’re navigating separation, family court, or post-separation parenting challenges, this conversation offers insight, reassurance, and practical perspective. 88. Considering separation? Let’s talk about the choice you’re already making
2026/01/30
Considering Separation in 2026? Let’s Talk About the Decision You’re Already Making If you’re listening to this episode, chances are the question isn’t “Should I leave?” It’s “Why am I still here - and what is this costing me and my children?” In this episode, I speak directly to parents who are contemplating separation in 2026 - especially those who have been living in chronic high-conflict, coercive, or emotionally unsafe relationships and are quietly carrying the weight of indecision. We unpack a hard but important truth: not choosing is still a choice - and time itself becomes a decision with consequences. This is not a conversation about rushing separation, issuing ultimatums, or “just leaving.” It is a grounded, child-focused discussion about: The difference between fear-based staying and values-aligned decision-makingHow to begin thinking strategically (not emotionally) about separation as a process, not a momentWhat preparation, capacity-building, and evidence-based planning can look like before any formal step is takenI also speak to the internal conflict many protective parents experience - wanting to minimise disruption for their children while simultaneously knowing that the current environment is already harming them. If this episode resonates and you’re not ready for 1:1 coaching - or you’re simply not ready to decide yet - my small-group experience Separation Curious is designed for exactly this stage. It’s a structured, child-focused space to slow the process down, build clarity and capacity, understand the real implications of different pathways, and think strategically about what comes next - without pressure to separate. As always, this episode is not legal advice and not therapy. It is an educational coaching-based, research-informed conversation designed to help you zoom out, regulate, and think clearly about the path you’re already on - and whether it aligns with the parent you want to be in 2026 and beyond. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or quietly preparing in your own mind, this episode is for you. 2026/01/23
2025 was a big year - for families navigating separation, and for the work we do here at Danielle Black Coaching. In this episode, I’m welcoming you into 2026 by reflecting on what we learned in 2025, what’s coming next, and - most importantly - how to use support wisely as a post-separation parent. I share: Key reflections from 2025 and what they revealed about what parents actually need after separationWhat’s planned for 2026 across coaching, education, and small-group supportFeedback from parents using the Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™ and AI Danielle Why tools like the Blueprint and AI Danielle are powerful for education, insight, and capacity-building - but are not replacements for 1:1 or group coaching, particularly when it comes to co-regulation, nervous-system support, and relational repairHow to think clearly about which type of support is right for you at different stages of your post-separation journeyI also introduce the newest addition to the Danielle Black Coaching team -Senior Coach Brigid Morgan, who specialises in supporting parents who are co-parenting without formal court orders and want to remain child-centred, developmentally informed, and grounded while navigating uncertainty, pressure, and ongoing communication challenges. This episode is about clarity. About discernment. And about moving into 2026 with steadier expectations, better tools, and the right kind of support - rather than doing more, harder, or alone. 86. Information vs Integration - Why consuming content isn’t the same as becoming strategic
2025/12/11
It’s easy to listen to podcasts, read posts on socials, and consume information… but none of that automatically turns you into the credible, strategic, protective parent you need to be in a post-separation, coercive-control landscape. In this episode, Danielle explores the critical difference between knowing and doing, and why true protective capacity comes from integration, practice, documentation, and nervous system leadership - not passive consuming. If you’ve ever felt informed but still overwhelmed, this episode will help you understand why - and show you the pathway toward real transformation. You’ll learn: • Why awareness is not the same as capacity • Why your nervous system leads under pressure, not your knowledge • What integration looks like in day-to-day parenting • Why YOU must become the expert in your own case Mentioned in this episode: The Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™ - $300 off for Black Friday at the time of recording - our biggest discount of the year. 85. Why being strategic, and well-informed, saves you money in the long run
2025/12/11
Most parents assume that family law is financially exhausting because lawyers and court processes are inherently expensive.  But that's not the full story. Legal fees explode when parents approach their matter reactively instead of strategically. In this powerful episode, Danielle breaks down the core drivers of legal cost blowouts - emotional emails, unclear communication, poorly structured evidence, last-minute affidavits, crisis thinking, and relying on lawyers to interpret chaos rather than providing them with clean, focused instructions. You’ll learn how strategic thinking, regulated communication, pattern-based evidence tracking, and the Blueprint methodology can dramatically reduce lawyer hours, save thousands of dollars, and strengthen the credibility of your case. This episode empowers you to understand that you need more than just deep pockets - you need preparation, clarity, and self-leadership. Key Takeaways: • Why emotional, reactive emails can be one of the most expensive parts of family law • Why reactive problem-solving drains both money and stamina • The difference between survival mode and strategy mode • What it means to become the expert in your own case • Why strategy protects both finances and outcomes For parents ready to level-up: Right now, during the Black Friday window: - The Blueprint is $300 off - our biggest discount ever - Join before December 12 to receive: - Complimentary access to AI Danielle until May 2026 AI Danielle supports you step-by-step with patterned analysis, communication scripts, documentation guidance, and nervous system tools - helping you integrate the Blueprint in real time. 84. How likely is equal shared parenting time & decision-making?
2025/12/09
Is 50/50 shared care or equal shared parental responsibility (decision making) automatic in Australia? No - but it is highly likely if protective parents consent to it out of exhaustion. This episode breaks down the biggest myth in post-separation parenting:  that courts routinely “order” equal parenting time. In reality, most 50/50 outcomes occur because parents become overwhelmed, under-supported and pressured to agree long before trial. Danielle explains what factors do influence equal-time outcomes, why stamina matters more than conflict, and why capacity-building is essential if you want to hold the line without collapsing halfway. What you’ll learn: The difference between ordered vs consented "50/50"Why most equal-time outcomes arise from exhaustion, not genuine meritRisk & safety conditions that make equal-time less appropriateWhy protective parents need strategy, not survivalHow The Blueprint helps protective parents to build the capacity required to keep going BLACK FRIDAY: Until midnight December 12 -  $300 off The Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™ + complimentary AI Danielle access. This episode is a heartfelt message to the parents who have joined The Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™ or invested in coaching - parents who have chosen courage over comfort, strategy over survival, and capacity over chaos. Danielle speaks directly to those who made the decision to invest not only money, but time, energy, emotional labour and their one precious window to protect their children in a post-separation landscape. In a world where people spend without hesitation on coffee, handbags and other dopamine-fuelled purchases - you chose the unglamorous, diligent, deeply protective path. 82. When programs, certificates and parenting orders don't equal safety
2025/12/01
Do Final Orders mean you're finally safe? Does completing a behaviour change program guarantee transformation? This episode exposes the dangerous myths that leave children unprotected. If you've been told "he's done the program, so things are safe now" or "you have Final Orders, so everything should be fine" – this episode is essential listening. Danielle Black breaks down the research on why: • Behaviour change programs show mixed evidence for sustained change in coercive control patterns • Online parenting courses cannot measure relational accountability • Final Orders prioritise system closure over ongoing child safety • Calendar-based contact progression ignores children's actual developmental needs • The family law system systematically mislabels coercive control as "high conflict" TOPICS COVERED: ✓ Why completion certificates don't equal transformation ✓ The online course problem and lack of accountability ✓ How the Australian family law system prioritises "finality" over safety ✓ What Final Orders DON'T solve (spoiler: most of the ongoing control) ✓ Life after Final Orders - the reality no one prepares you for ✓ Why capacity building and radical acceptance are lifelong tools, not just for during litigation ✓ The hard truth: no one is coming to save you (and why that's actually empowering) RESEARCH REFERENCED:  Dr Julie Blake (University of Queensland - physiological impacts on children), ANROWS (Australian research on post-separation abuse), Australian Law Reform Commission Family Law Review, Professor Jennifer McIntosh (child development and trauma recovery), AIFS (Australian Institute of Family Studies) PERFECT FOR: Protective parents navigating Australian family law, parents with Final Orders still experiencing control, anyone told to "just co-parent," parents being pressured to accept behaviour change certificates as proof of safety, professionals working with separated families. 81. Stop googling 'narcissists' - What Australian protective parents REALLY need to understand
2025/11/27
If you’ve ever found yourself deep in Google searches trying to work out whether your ex is a covert narcissist, a malignant narcissist, or something in between… this episode is for you. Because here’s the truth: Understanding “narcissism” won’t help you protect your children. Understanding coercive control will. In this episode, Danielle Black explains why protective parents get stuck in the narcissism rabbit hole - and how it can keep them overwhelmed, confused, and focused on the wrong problem. You’ll learn: Why terms like “narcissist,” “covert,” “grey rock,” and “yellow rock” can keep you stuck, and reactive, instead of strategicWhy the family law system doesn’t care about personality labels - and what it does care aboutThe key differences between narcissistic traits and pattern-based coercive controlWhy identifying patterns of behaviour matters far more than diagnosing the personWhat you should be tracking insteadHow to shift from chaos → clarity, and from labels → evidenceIf you’re exhausted from trying to decode their personality, stop. The problem isn’t who they are - it’s what they do, the pattern, and the harm it causes your children. This episode gives you the lens professionals actually respond to - and the one that puts you back in your power. If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now - good. It means your instincts are working. But instinct isn’t enough if you're navigating the court system with a controlling co-parent. You need structure, strategy, and language. That’s what the Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint gives you. 80. Understanding coercive control (Part 2): The 7 patterns directed at children
2025/11/26
If Part 1 helped you understand the patterned aspect of coercive control, this episode helps you finally see the harm. In Part 2 of this series, Danielle Black breaks down the 7 child-directed patterns of coercive control - the tactics most family law professionals completely overlook, and the ones that cause the deepest developmental harm to children. Drawing on lived experience, research, and hundreds of real cases, Danielle explains: The 7 ways coercive control targets children, not just the other parentHow to recognise patterns like conditional love, triangulation, undermining authority, isolation, fear-based compliance, parentification, and gaslightingHow to document these patterns with clarity, accuracy, and strategyWhat professionals need to see (and why they don’t connect the dots on their own)How to speak the “language” of the family law system so your concerns cannot be dismissed as conflictIf you’ve ever felt like something is “off” in the way your ex parents - but struggled to explain it - this episode gives you the words, the lens, and the clarity you’ve been missing. This is the episode that changes how you see everything. If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now - good. It means your instincts are working. But instinct isn’t enough if you're navigating the court system with a controlling co-parent. You need structure, strategy, and language. That’s what the Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint gives you. 79. Understanding coercive control (Part 1): Why most professionals miss it
2025/11/24
Why do family lawyers, mediators, report writers and even judges keep missing what might be painfully obvious to you - that this isn’t “high conflict,” it’s coercive control? And why does that mislabel put your children in danger? In this episode, Danielle Black breaks down the core reason the family law system consistently fails to recognise coercive control: it’s using the wrong framework. While professionals are trained to look for incidents, coercive control is a pattern - and one that directly harms children long after separation. Drawing on lived experience, current research (including Professor Evan Stark and Dr Julie Blake), and two decades of lived experience along with supporting hundreds of protective parents, Danielle explains: Why coercive control is repeatedly misidentified as “communication issues”How patterns become invisible when professionals look only for incidentsWhy coercive control is a parenting issue, not just an “adult relationship issue”The seven child-directed patterns parents must learn to identify (Black 2025)How mislabelling coercive control leads to unsafe recommendations and harmful ordersWhy protective parents must become the experts in their own caseWhat the system needs to understand - and how to make it impossible for them to ignoreThis episode gives you the clarity, language, and strategic lens that most legal professionals simply don’t have. If you’ve ever been dismissed, minimised or misunderstood, this episode will validate your experience - and help you start advocating in a way the system can hear. Part 2 continues later in the week will continue with the 7 patterns of coercive control directed at children - with examples, red flags, and documentation guidance. If you’re feeling overwhelmed right now - good. It means your instincts are working. But instinct isn’t enough if you're navigating the court system with a controlling co-parent. You need structure, strategy, and language. That’s what the Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint gives you. 78: Lead, don’t follow: Evidence over ideology in post-separation parenting
2025/11/20
Most protective parents assume their lawyer or mediator understands what their children truly need after separation - developmentally, emotionally, and in terms of safety. But the uncomfortable truth is this: lawyers know the law, not child development. They are not trained in coercive control, developmental trauma, or the research that actually predicts how children thrive after separation. In this episode, Danielle explains why you must lead your legal team, not follow them - and why relying on “what your lawyer thinks is reasonable” can lead to unsafe, developmentally inappropriate outcomes for your children. You’ll learn why evidence, not ideology, must guide your parenting proposals, and how protective parents can become the experts in their own children’s needs - rather than outsourcing those decisions to professionals who don’t have the training to make them. Danielle also shares a preview of next week’s deep dive into coercive control, and gives listeners an early heads-up: do not buy the Blueprint this week - a Black Friday discount and special bonus will be announced next week! In this episode: Lawyers and mediators are not trained in child developmentHow adult “fairness” ideology distorts parenting outcomesThe evidence every protective parent needs to knowWhy you must instruct your lawyer - not the other way aroundHow the Post-Separation Parenting Blueprint™ fills the evidence gapDisclaimer: This podcast contains general information only. 77. When loving the other parent feels like betrayal - How to support your child without making them choose
2025/11/19
It’s one of the hardest parts of post-separation life: your child still loves, misses, or defends the parent who hurt you. In this deeply compassionate episode, Danielle Black explores the grief, anger, and fear beneath that experience - and explains why children often align with the parent who holds the power, not the peace. You’ll learn how unresolved trauma and nervous-system dysregulation affect emotional safety, how to avoid the “mirror trap,” and how to become the lighthouse your child can always find. Through lived experience and trauma-informed insight, Danielle shows that helping children stay emotionally whole means letting them love both parents - without feeling forced to choose. 76. Changes in UK family law: What Australia must learn (and face)
2025/11/13
Recent reforms in the United Kingdom have shaken the family-law landscape - finally recognising that domestic abuse is not just an adult issue, but a child-safety issue.  In this episode, Danielle Black breaks down what’s changing in the UK, what Australia has already reformed on paper, and why our culture and professional ideology are still lagging behind. You’ll hear how both countries are redefining “best interests of the child” to centre safety over shared care, and why this shift is long overdue. Danielle unpacks the uncomfortable truth: perpetrators of family violence are not good parents, and children have a right to be protected - even when that means limited or no contact. Drawing on her work with protective parents and the 2024 Australian Family Law Act reforms, Danielle explores how society’s obsession with “children need both parents” continues to undermine genuine child-focused practice, and what needs to change if we’re serious about protecting children from harm. In this episode: What the new UK reforms really mean for family courtsThe parallels with Australia’s 2024 Family Law Act changesWhy ideology still outweighs evidence in many legal processesThe truth about family violence as a parenting, not relationship, problem Disclaimer: This podcast provides general information only. 75. Radical acceptance & capacity: What actually changes your life
2025/11/11
When your co-parent’s behaviour never seems to change, it’s easy to believe that peace will only come once they start doing things differently. But waiting for that moment keeps you stuck - exhausted, reactive, and powerless. In this episode, Danielle unpacks what actually changes your life when the chaos doesn’t stop: radical acceptance and building inner capacity. You’ll learn how to stop burning energy trying to hold your ex to account, what “dropping the rope” really means, and how to reclaim calm for yourself and your children - even when the other parent refuses to evolve. Danielle also shares an important, trauma-informed clarification: coaching isn’t counselling. If trauma responses are still dominating daily life, professional therapy - especially trauma-specific approaches like EMDR - is the essential first step.
