Episode 137: (Some of) The Worst Performances in Eurovision
2026/09/24
Sometimes good things happen to good people, as has happened with friend of the show, Worldvishawn! Shawn is now a consultant and producer for the CBC as he helps them navigate their first Eurovision, and we get the download about the whole process. And in a Eurovangelists first, Dimitry is out of the country and unable to record with us, which means it's time to get NEGATIVE. We go through some of the worst ever performances in the Eurovision Song Contest and a couple of our picks might have ESC purists scoffing. Jeremy sees through the Illusion, Shawn refuses to Be Happy, and Oscar can't believe the beginning of Bandido.  Watch the performances discussed this week on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VLhnzk_dAs&list=PLHH-ggOj7lyc&pp=sAgC This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/3RThpKZ871xoy7TknbnQWz Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Episode 136: Ireland's Eurovision Songs
2026/09/17
Ireland emerged victorious in our New Big Five t-shirt contest earlier this year, which means they've earned themselves an episode about their many fantastic Eurovision entries over the years. We're also joined by listener, Eurovision fan and professor Mel Hardy, who's a delightful guest host for this look at Ireland's history with the contest. Jeremy identifies the anti-Johnny Logan, Dimitry points out his favorite prisoner, Mel out-Dimitrys Dimitry, and Oscar wonders at the additions of the Swarbriggs. 2026/09/10
It's finally time for the hotly anticipated South Korean national final, and it delivers... sort of. We discuss what we feel was missing from Korea's Next Wave with the hilarious Sarah Claspell, but it wasn't lacking great songs, thankfully. Plus? Only 90 minutes! Jeremy picks out some very specific anime themes, Dimitry thinks a robbery may have occurred, Sarah wants to send one competitor to the moon, and Oscar wants to makeitloud. Episode 134: Eurovision Asia - Philippine Selection Night
2026/09/03
Mabuhay to all the Filipino music fans out there, because Philippine Selection Night has arrived and with it, another entrant in the Eurovision Song Contest Asia. We're joined this week by the delightful Kevin Rivera to listen to what his home country has to offer, and all four of us fall under the spell of host supreme Vice Ganda. Jeremy's on board for the duet of duets, Dimitry breaks down the dramaturgical function of robot dancing, Kevin is Broken Beyond Repair by one amazing singer, and Oscar, as usual, chooses chaos.  Follow Kevin on TikTok for his reactions to Eurovision Asia & Drag Race: https://www.tiktok.com/@sometimesathird Watch Philippine Selection Night on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rs_b7uS3UU This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0jDKB3XlEIdNpPcxJZgntj Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Episode 133: Eurovision Asia - Malaysia & Rhythm of Bhutan
2026/08/27
Despite a false start in 2025, Eurovision Song Contest Asia looks like it's really happening in 2026! The proof? A full-on national final from Bhutan called Rhythm of Bhutan that has everything we love about national finals from small nations, plus a powerhouse internal selection from Malaysia. We talk about all five competitors in the final and what songs are likely to do well in November's contest. Jeremy is always happy to see college kids getting weird, Dimitry gets some rock with a distinctive Bhutanese twist, and Oscar would hire one dancer to do anything.  Watch Aina Abdul's performance at Malaysia's Anugerah Juara Lagu 40: https://youtu.be/RoOL60wUkps Watch Rhythm of Bhutan courtesy of BBS on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7V5cSj30SBI This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5iU2uyFaPjwdanCddG3Wkl Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Episode 132: Songs from Eurovision's Class of 2026
2026/08/20
We thought we were going to sit down for a nice simple episode of the podcast, and then the EBU announced everything. Burgas! New age limit! No more pre-recorded backing tracks! Less well-defined rules about "conflicts"! But our fantastic guest, Irene White (Superstore, St. Denis Medical), was game to talk about it all, along with a bunch of songs released by artists from this year's Eurovision class. Jeremy's glad to see Sam up to his old tricks again, Dimitry wants you to check out the Jiva back catalog, Irene explains the 90s appeal of Satoshi, and Oscar sees the other side of a melancholy Dane. Episode 131: Ranking 80s & 90s Eurovision Winners, Pt. 3
2026/08/13
The votes are in, the jury's got its favorite and the same for the public: it's time to see who reigns supreme as we sort through the winners of the Eurovision Song Contest through the eighties and nineties. Some surprises on both sides, but there's also a shocking amount of consensus at the top of the standings and the bottom. In the middle, however? Outliers abound. Jeremy will make believe this moment's here to stay, Dimitry lets the feeling take control, and Oscar sees forever in your smile.  Watch all 20 Eurovision winners on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrVhbji3NU0&list=PLOkEuXDlyT_k&pp=sAgC See the results of our listener poll: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1kXzuHArkwmbKOdOZXMAe2qYg9-p6fwxb_cLpSwRPiRI/ This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1DRSgYoEu6bjw7qf0KBUkQ Help support this show and unlock bonus content! 2026/08/06
We're back with our second episode of taking a look back at the winners of the 80s & 90s, and we hope you like Ireland because they're out in force in the 90s. Three back to back wins, another Johnny Logan appearance, Moods both Pure & Celtics - it's Ireland's decade for sure. But again, there's a lot of great music to enjoy throughout the decade, so take a listen and be sure to vote for your favorites! Episode 129: Ranking 80s & 90s Eurovision Winners, Pt. 1
2026/07/30
It's time to continue the work from 2024 and keep ranking the winners of Eurovision! This time, we're turning our attention to the top tunes from the end of the 20th century, starting with the 1980s. From Johnny Logan to... well, Johnny Logan, there's a whole decade of great songs to check out this week, but ours aren't the only opinions that matter! Listen along with us, vote via the form below for your favorites, and help us determine the champion of champions! Episode 128: Eurovision 1991 Recap
2026/07/23
We'll be covering the famously terrible 2008 Eurovision Song Contest in a livestream later this year, but we thought we ought to cover the second place winner (and Oscar's favorite!), 1991's ESC at Cinecittà in Rome. And since we couldn't keep this many mediocre ballads to ourselves, joining us for this highly dysfunctional edition of Eurovision is the hilarious writer & comedian Corin Wells. (Dropout, The Amber Ruffin Show). Jeremy can't believe they let this sax solo slide, Dimitry needs more people to cover Amina, Corin's playing her first Eurovision on Expert difficulty, and Oscar traces the origins of all of 91's choreo to an unlikely source. Episode 127: Another Eurovangelists Summer Playlist
2026/07/16
Temperatures are soaring across the US & Europe, so we've got the perfect poolside playlist to keep you cool and bring some fun with the sun. Joining us in this endeavor is Eurovision fan and actress Jessica Lowe, who stars alongside our own Oscar Montoya in Minx on Netflix, and has some informed opinions about our picks. Jeremy says fire bad, Dimitry despairs the memory of 2009, Jess would like to know why these men are stamping the ground, and Oscar needs accordion in his reggae.  Follow Jess on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jessmarlo/ Check out last year's summer playlist on Youtube. Episode 126: Bulgaria's Eurovision History - Bust, Boom, & Bangaranga
2026/07/09
We're still riding the high of Dara's win from this year's contest, but how close had Bulgaria come to the glass microphone before? Pretty close... and very far, depending on the year. We're looking at all of Bulgaria's Eurovision entries since joining in 2005, and there seems to be a pattern of high highs and low lows for the country. Jeremy sees through the Illusion, Dimitry's all in on a Poli lifestyle, and Oscar needs there to be a little less screaming.  Get a local's guide to Sofia for 2027 courtesy of our friend Manuela: https://www.excedotravel.com/eurovision-2027-sofia-survival-guide/ Watch the performances from this week's episode on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6rnAKD1QuU&list=PLd2EbKTi9fyX4JEYjGWtFarPpIWz4Ja9k&pp=sAgC This week's companion playlist: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0pfP1bB5ujZIEPu2yCiUzj Help support this show and unlock bonus content! 2026/07/02
Thank you to all our wonderful backers this year who've brought this BoCo episode from last year to the main feed! Now everyone can experience the magic(?) of the weirdest Eurovision-adjacent disco Creation myth committed to celluloid, The Apple, aka Star Rock, aka BIM Rock. We're joined by certified Apple-ologist Alonso Duralde of Maximum Film as we watch the 1994 Eurovision... excuse me, the WORLDVISION Song Contest. Jeremy is putting on his BIM mark, Dimitry's making sure they're allowed to do this, Alonso invents the Deus Ex Mercedes, and Oscar's still looking for that comic book robe.  Watch The Apple free on Tubi: https://tubitv.com/movies/476694/the-apple Help support this show and unlock bonus content! Episode 124: Canadians in Eurovision (who aren't Celine)
2026/06/25
July 1st is Canada Day, so we're celebrating Canadian artists who have graced the Eurovision Song Contest stage with one very notable exception. But we needed an expert in all things Eurovision AND all things Canada, so we had to bring in Alex of ESC101, a Eurovision history podcast, to help us out. We take a look at noteworthy neighbors to the north throughout the years at ESC. Jeremy's just waiting for the cartoons to come back, Dimitry is counting his squats, Alex laments the quality of Canadian staging across four countries, and Oscar says, "Watatatow!"
