Mega-Church | The Fall of Robert Morris
2026/11/03
Mega-Church | The Fall of Robert Morris
Part One of a Two Part Series
For more than two decades, Robert Morris stood at the center of one of America’s largest megachurches. As the founding pastor of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, he built a sprawling ministry, became a trusted voice in evangelical circles, and even served as a spiritual adviser to Donald Trump. To his congregation and the wider public, he was a man of faith, leadership, and influence.
Then, in June 2024, the truth that had been hidden for decades came into the open. Cindy Clemishire, then 54, publicly described how Morris began sexually abusing her on Christmas night in 1982, when she was 12 years old and he was a 21-year-old traveling evangelist staying in her family’s Oklahoma home. The abuse continued for roughly four and a half years, until 1987, when she told her parents.
The story did not end with the resignation.
In 2025 Morris was indicted in Oklahoma on five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. In October 2025 he pleaded guilty. Under the plea deal he received a 10-year suspended sentence, served six months in the Osage County Jail, agreed to pay Clemishire $270,000 in restitution, and must register as a sex offender for life. He was released in March 2026

Part One | The Collapse: Effective Altruist
2026/10/26
Part One of a Four Part Series He said he was going to give it all away. Every dollar. Sam Bankman-Fried built his entire public life on a philosophy called effective altruism: get rich as fast as possible, then give the fortune away to save the world. Politicians took his calls. Regulators took his meetings. Investors handed him billions and skipped the due diligence — because the kid in the cargo shorts wasn't just building a crypto empire, he was supposed to be saving us.
In Part One of this four-part series, Jim introduces you to the Stanford law professors' son raised on utilitarian philosophy. The MIT physics grad who walked away from a Jane Street trading desk with a plan to "earn to give." The kimchi premium — an arbitrage loophole in South Korea that minted millions a day and seeded a trading firm called Alameda Research. And the founding of FTX, the exchange that made him, at thirty years old, one of the richest and most trusted men in finance.
Chapters:
02:08 the FTX Story
04:35 A Stanford Childhood and Elite Privilege
08:28 MIT, Gary Wang, and Effective Altruism

Crime Wire Weekly 10/23/26 | Laken Snelling Sentenced, Chainsaw Carnage, & the People’s Court Murder
2026/10/23
We open with a man extradited to Louisiana after an investigation into the online exploitation of an Acadiana child—including allegations he tried to push the minor toward demise. From there we head to Alabama, where a man is accused of using a chainsaw to kill his grandmother and aunt inside their home, then turning a court appearance into its own spectacle. Former University of Kentucky cheerleader Laken Snelling has been sentenced in the case of her newborn son, whose body was found in a closet; she previously admitted in court that she “ended his life.”
DNA technology finally closes a long-dormant West Virginia sexual assault and abduction cold case. A maintenance worker is caught on a nanny cam going through a tenant’s underwear drawer. Two 15-year-old girls in California are arrested after authorities say they spent months researching and plotting a school shooting. The man who appeared on The People’s Court with his then-fiancée is charged in her 2011 disappearance and murder.
In Florida, a man is accused of shooting his girlfriend outside a bar and then running her over while his young daughter and the family dog were present. In our Lustful Lawbreakers segment we cover the domestic dispute that started over a missing sex toy and ended with both parties in handcuffs (before they reconciled). And we close with the Montreal woman killed in her apartment while she was on a work Zoom call with colleagues—her attacker now charged with first-degree murder.

Instead, prosecutors say she targeted one of them. Beginning when the boy was just 13, Rock — a married mother in her mid-40s — allegedly spent more than a year and a half grooming, texting, and more. The relationship continued until the victim was 14, when his mother tracked his phone one night after he snuck out and the truth began to unravel.
