AI Made the Music. He Wrote the Words. Who's the Artist?
2026/09/30
Send us Fan Mail
He writes every word. AI makes the music. So who's the artist?
J.S. Clockwise has written poetry for decades, always in rhyme and meter. He self-published a book of poems, and for about a year now he's been turning them into songs with generative AI and releasing the music.
Nick and Jason talk with him about:
- Judging every lyric by whether it sounds like something Leonard Cohen would say
- Why making an AI song means dozens, sometimes hundreds, of versions
- Giving the machine credit for the melody while keeping the words his own
- A fan's autograph request, and a stranger who was sure a song was about her
- His answer to people who say AI music isn't real music

I Wasn't Brave. I Was Just Numb.
2026/09/23
Send us Fan Mail
At 50, exhausted from two abusive marriages and a career spent taking care of everyone but herself, Pamela Topjian sold almost everything she owned, bought a one-way bus ticket, and left home not knowing where she'd land. Ten years later, she's a published author, a podcast host, and living what she calls the first equal, respectful marriage of her life.
In this episode, Pamela and Jason talk through the bus ride that changed everything, why she says she wasn't brave — just numb — and what actually happens in the years after you survive the thing that almost broke you.
About Pamela: She spent 14 years as a nurse before becoming a certified hypnotherapist and, later, a pet-sitting business owner. She's the author of two memoirs — "I Didn't Come This Far to Only Come This Far" and "Behind the Mask, Gloves, and Scrubs: One Nurse's Journey" — and hosts the Holistic Connections podcast, featuring conversations with holistic practitioners.

He's Been in 125 Indiana Gyms. He Wants All 410 by Age 30. | Grant Shouse
2026/09/17
Send us Fan Mail
Grant Shouse is 22 years old and has been inside 125 high school gyms in Indiana. He wants to be inside every one of them — somewhere north of 410 — before he turns 30.
He's also the inaugural radio voice of the Kokomo Creek Chubs, the city's brand-new Prospect League team, and he calls high school football and basketball across Grant, Wabash and Miami counties for Action Sports Network.
Jason sat down with him to talk about the part of the job nobody sees: what the schedule costs a 22-year-old, why he can't stand listening to his own tape, and the high school football finish he still can't explain — a lateral, a flag, an untimed down, a Hail Mary, and overtime, in a first-round sectional game that ended up on Pat McAfee's show.
Along the way: the rule he invented for whether a gym counts, the man three times his age who convinced him the goal was reachable, why an announcer goes quiet for forty-five seconds after the biggest call of the game, and the reason his dad wanted his middle name to be Espen — spelled E-S-P-N.

He Wasn't Supposed to Survive. Now He Fishes Professionally. | Hunter Baughman
2026/09/09
Send us Fan Mail
At nine months old, Hunter Baughman's parents were told he had a zero percent chance of surviving bacterial meningitis. He's now closing out his sixth season on the National Professional Fishing League.
He barely mentions any of that here.
Jason talks with Hunter about the work instead — six-day tournament weeks, three daughters under six riding along, Sunday morning church service at the boat ramp, and the 2022 season that nearly ended his career before a win in Missouri bought him another year.
Also in this one: why he'd rather fish the hardest tournament on the schedule, the livewell rule he uses to reset after a bad hour, and why the sponsors from outside the fishing industry are the ones he brags on.

Heidi Mikac writes, directs and stars in her own films, and funds them with money from strangers who have never met her. She talks with Nick and Jason about Written in the Dark — the prequel to her award-winning Written in the Light — about the psychic-serial-killer feature she built out of something that really happened at her high school, and about why the film she's making now is the story she never planned to tell. How Child Grooming Actually Starts | Trafficking Survivor Misti Spencer
2026/08/26
Send us Fan Mail
Misti Spencer was between twelve and fourteen the first time she was trafficked, and the person who did it was someone her family trusted. In this conversation she walks through how it actually begins - slowly, in small pieces, long before anyone would call it abuse - and why the people who do it are almost never strangers. This episode is a survivor's account, told for the purpose of prevention. It discusses human trafficking, child exploitation, and sexual abuse. Misti serves on the Advisory Board for the University of Central Florida Center for the Study of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery and is a published contributing author through that Center. Mental Health, Trauma & Healing | What Is FUF?
2026/08/19
Send us Fan Mail
What do you do when life genuinely isn't fair? Beth Sherman — a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, nurse, author, and speaker with more than 20 years of experience — joins Nick and Jason to talk through the framework she built from two decades of nursing, eight years working inside a state prison system, and her own fight with colorectal cancer: what she calls the FUF, or the F**ked Up Factor.
In this episode, Beth talks about where the FUF concept came from, learning to meet people where they are instead of judging them, surviving cancer at 39 after losing a friend to the same disease, and how she turned all of it into her book, What the FUF: Understanding the FUF—and Finding a Way Through. She also talks about her memoir, Looking Back It Was Funny.

From Atheist to Christian Author: Wesley Key's Story of Rock Bottom
2026/07/29
Send us Fan Mail
Wesley Key spent two years as an atheist, deep in seminary, trying to prove there wasn't a God. Today he owns two Chick-fil-A restaurants in Bloomington, Indiana, and he's just written his first book.
In this conversation, Wes sits down with Nick and Jason to talk through the parts of his story most people never hear: losing three family members within about a year, the anxiety and rock bottom that followed, and the night everything changed for him. He also talks about growing up a pastor's kid, what it actually took to build a career at Chick-fil-A, and how a simple restaurant vision statement became the title of his debut book, Inspire. Nourish. Cultivate.
This is one of the more openly faith-centered conversations in the show's history, and Wes is candid about all of it: the doubt, the loss, and what he found on the other side.
Wesley Key's book, Inspire. Nourish. Cultivate.: A Journey of Redemption. A Story of Hope., is out August 25th and available now for pre-order.
If this one resonates, follow Mosaic Minds Podcast so you don't miss the next conversation, and share it with someone who needs to hear it.

From Tecmo Bowl to Jim McMahon: Inside CJ Wallis's Documentary World
2026/07/23
Send us Fan Mail
CJ Wallis makes documentaries about the stories hiding behind things everyone thinks they already know — a Price Is Right superfan who beat the system, an NFL quarterback more misunderstood than his highlight reel suggests, and a video game that's kept a community together for decades. On this episode of Mosaic Minds Podcast, Nick and Jason sit down with the director of Perfect Bid to talk about how he finds these stories, earns the access to tell them right, and why he keeps coming back to Tecmo Bowl.
CJ walks through how he tracked down Ted Slauson, the Texas math teacher who quietly memorized decades of Price Is Right prizes, and the last-minute call that turned into Bob Barker's final interview. He also talks about Mad Mac, his long-in-the-works documentary on NFL quarterback Jim McMahon, and what it took to earn McMahon's trust over years of production. The conversation covers CJ's own path from competitive hockey goaltender to filmmaker, and the Tecmo Bowl League he runs — including an upcoming documentary on the community built around it and this year's Tecmo Bowl National Championships, August 8 at DJ's Dugout in Omaha.

Elton And Me | Salvadore Liberto
2026/07/09
Send us Fan Mail
Salvadore Liberto returns ahead of Elton And Me, his night of Elton John classics and original songs at the Studio at the Allied Solutions Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel on Friday, September 25.
Sal plays his way through the conversation. He performs Skyline Pigeon and tells the story behind it — the song Elton John sang at Ryan White's funeral — and talks about how that friendship changed Elton's life. He explains how he sequences a show to earn an audience's trust, why hearing Elton's Live in Australia record as a teenager made him a musician in the first place, and what roughly 30,000 hours at the piano sounds like now. He also shares two originals, Now's the Time and Nothing Is Perfect, and closes with Daniel.
Along the way: the glasses, the shiny stage clothes, whether anyone can learn to sing, and the floating feeling he's had on stage maybe three times.
