Marbella Beach lunches in October, and Halloween in Marbella
2026/10/25
Welcome to Marbella with Him & Her, your weekly Marbella podcast presented by PJ Lopez @pjlopez1marbella and Hannah Murray @radiohannah. Each week they bring a mix of Hannah's top interviews she did on her radio show, some of their weekly antics, and of course local news and information from San Pedro Alcantara and Marbella.
This week Hannah starts by sharing some very sad news of the passing of two friends Terry Buckfield and Owain Griffiths. Terry was a long-time friend who Hannah met when she started hashing with the Mijas Hash House Harriers. Owain was a very well-known character on the coast who has directed and appeared in many production at the Salon Varietes Theatre in Fuengirola.
One of Hannah's interviews during the week was with Simon Kirby, talking about his book 'You Might Live Twice'. It was his extraordinary story of being a top surgeon, having a major stroke which should have left him dead, but instead left him determined to recover and retrain as a pathologist.
Hannah also shares her chat with the Facebook group Be Spain Savvy about queues in shops and supermarkets and rather than getting annoyed, embracing the fact that for the people buying something it might be their only real interaction with other people that day.
Hannah also recounts the beautiful sendoff they gave Terry at Bikini Beach with over 70 people coming to together to celebrate her life.
They both welcome the Book Shop in San Pedro onto the San Pedro Guide and give some details about where they are and what type of things they sell in the shop as well as books.
At the weekend Hannah had two beach lunches; one was with her friend Audrey at Kala Kalua on the beach and on Saturday they met up with Guy and Teresa in Fuengirola, in a chiringuito called La Mar Salá. Listen to see what they had and what the name means and how lucky they are to still be having beach lunches near the end of October!
While Hannah was walking down the street in San Pedro earlier in the week, she was astonished at the different accents and languages she heard in one journey. PJ attempted each one, so it is worth a listen just to see how bad he was!
This week's Euro Weekly News articles include the increasing price of the Menu del diá, and the protest that is coming up against the cost of living urging people to avoid shopping on a particular day.
Some upcoming events they mention include The Hogan Stand Halloween Quiz on Thursday, the spooky activities for the family in the boulevard on 31st and one that already took place, the family cycle day in San Pedro.
Ageless Marbella, networking and dancing at parties
2026/10/18
Welcome to the latest episode of the Marbella lifestyle podcast Marbella with Him & Her brought to you by expat couple PJ Lopez @pjlopez1marbella and Hannah Murray @radiohannah.
This week Hannah speaks about one of her interviews she did on her radio show at Talk Radio Europe with Barrie Zucal who took up powerlifting at the age of 70 and is still doing it ten years later at the age of 80. They discuss 'age' and 'aging' and how people in Marbella seem to age so well. Hannah also interviewed 86 year old Dame Prue Leith about her life and her book 'Being Old and Learning to Love It'. Hannah had some interesting things to share about both ladies.
Another interview Hannah did was with Anita Mitchell, who married Edgar Mitchell, the sixth man to walk on the moon. Her book is called 'You Don't Look Like An Astronauts Wife'
It was a big week for networking for Hannah starting with Thursday night when she was invited to a networking event at the Hard Rock Hotel hosted by the Sala Super Car Club and Inner Circle members. Listen to see how she got on and her views on networking.
While Hannah attended the event, PJ hosted the quiz, managing to get it finished at a decent time, for a change.
On Friday night Hannah was invited to another event at La Sala's Clubhouse which was an evening with former Liverpool and England footballer John Barnes, organised by The Sporting Club. She was lucky enough to sit at the top table with John, and she shares some of the stories that he told during the evening.
On Saturday PJ and Hannah were at a 60th birthday party for one of their friends and they again share some age-related observations about people in Marbella.
This week’s Euro Weekly News articles include the weather and the downpours that have wreaked havoc in Almeria as well as more locally. They also talk about an article relating to drivers and more specifically, the rules of driving on roundabouts in Spain. It is worth a listen if you plan to do any driving in Spain or are unsure of the rules.
Sticking with an age theme this week they talk about another article which was about the differences in what younger and older people buy from supermarkets.
John Barnes in Marbella, and Hannah in Portugal!
2026/10/12
Welcome to another episode of your weekly Marbella lifestyle podcast Marbella with Him & Her, presented by PJ Lopez @pjlopez1marbella and Hannah Murray @radiohannah.
This week they start with an apology for this episode being late because of an unusually busy weekend!
Hannah mentions the sad news of author Jeffrey Archer's passing and the fact that she has interviewed him several times over the years, the last one of which was last December. She replayed her interview after the news and spoke fondly about the conversations they had over the years.
She also talks about another interview she did with Gordon Simpson, an author of a golf related novel called Four Deadly Swings. During the interview he mentioned a few times a famous sports author called Dick Francis who used to be a jockey before writing crime novels. After his death, his son Felix Francis continued the series and in a strange coincidence, Hannah happened to be interviewing Felix right after the one with Gordon.
The main reason this week's episode is late was because on Friday Hannah headed to the Algarve for a get together with her friend Nikki. Both Hannah and Amy left on Friday and came back on Sunday. Listen to hear what they got up to in Portugal.
While Hannah was away, PJ decided to take himself off for a curry to the other Indian in San Pedro called Maurya before heading to the Hogan Stand. Listen to hear what he ate and the mixture of drinks he had during the night, and what time he crawled back home!
On Sunday Hannah came back from Portugal, got changed and went to the farewell party of her long-time colleague Steph Miller. It was a Japanese festival of food! When she got home from that, it was another quick turnaround to go to the International Theatre Studio's production of Four Old Broads on the High Seas. Both her father and Sheila were in the play along with many other friends. You can hear how it went and what they thought of it.
Hannah mentions some events coming up such as the Gibraltar Literary Festival with guest speakers such as Dame Prue Leith, Joanne Harris and Dame Penny Mordant. She also mentions a fantastic event coming up on Friday at the Sala Group’s Clubhouse, which is an evening with England and Liverpool hero John Barnes. There will be a Q&A with him followed by a dinner in an intimate setting.
PJ and Hannah give out some key events for the start of the San Pedro Feria including a dance festival in the church square, the parade around town and the fireworks display.
This week's Euro Weekly News articles include a food festival up and down the country called French Flavours. They also talk about some of Spain's favourite autumn and winter Spanish dishes and why people across Spain put a toilet roll in the fridge.

Hannah provides an update on a tragic story about the recent Almeria wildfires.
Wednesday was a very busy evening as straight from work they headed to see the International Theatre Studio's production of ‘The Regina Monologues’. Listen to find out what they thought. Afterwards they dashed to the car and headed to the Hogan Stand to watch the semi-final of the World Cup England against Argentina. We all know how that turned out!
Thursday was the weekly Hogan Stand Quiz, which is a great social occasion for local residents and visitors to San Pedro. PJ's team were all sick, so he joined Hannah's dad's team. Listen to see how they got on.
Friday Hannah had her regular catch up with Charlotte Rodriguez who is the owner of the wine wholesale business Cervinco. They have become great friends as she is a regular contributor to Hannah's radio show. They met for lunch at one of their favourite chringuitos in San Pedro called Kala Kalua where they had a lovely afternoon eating great food, drinking great wine and having a lovely chat.
Saturday morning Hannah and Nicole from Good Morning Spain were invited to do a yoga class at the Hard Rock Hotel, after which PJ and Hannah went to Remy's in San Pedro for Eggs Benedict.
Hannah's interview highlights included her chat with Lesley Spellman of the Declutter Hub, a chat with her regular contributors Be Spain Savvy and Dr William Supple Jr about his book 'The Sunlight Solution'.
This week’s articles from collaborators The Euro Weekly News include pieces on Double Parking rules, dogs on RENFE trains and La Sala's new Riverside Café.
