What is Crystal Gridding | A Witch & A Shaman
2026/09/30
Text or VM the Show You’ve heard people talk about “crystal grids,” but what does gridding actually mean, and how do you do it without turning it into a complicated craft project? We sit down with author Jenny C. Bell and Granddaughter Crow to answer a community question with real, usable steps that work whether you have a huge crystal collection or just a few stones you love. We break gridding down to its essentials: placing items in a shape with a clear intention, then activating that layout with your energy. Jenny explains how a grid can be made with crystals, backyard stones, charms, plants, or even flowers, and why sacred geometry is optional, not required. Granddaughter Crow expands the idea from altar work to full-space energy work, including a powerful story about creating a protective property grid inspired by a dream, then “walking” that boundary in the mind’s eye to keep it active. You’ll also hear beginner-friendly ways to start small, like building a tarot card grid to call in the energy you want more of, plus practical guidance on cleansing, recharging, and working with lunar timing such as the new moon and full moon. The biggest takeaway we want you to remember: don’t overcomplicate it. Play is not a bonus, it’s part of the magic. If you enjoy this kind of grounded spiritual practice, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find us. What would you grid first: your desk, your bedroom, or your whole home?  #CrystalGrids #EnergyWork #SpiritualPractice  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! Ghosts are People Too | Richard-Lael Lillard, Judika Illes, Jake Morningstar
2026/09/27
Text or VM the Show Ghosts are not just jump scares and cold spots. When we actually compare notes across witchcraft, occult practice, mediumship, and lived experience, the “paranormal” starts to look a lot more like a normal part of being human.    We sit down as a roundtable with Judika Illes, author of Encyclopedia of Spirits and The Weiser Field Guide to the Paranormal, plus Jake Morningstar, author of Tattoo Magic, Richard Lael, The Gentleman Psychic - psychic medium and occultist based in New Orleans, and co-host Jenny C. Bell. Together, we ask the real question behind every haunting: what are we actually encountering? We explore the idea that ghosts can be the souls of dead people, but also that they might be emotional imprints, thoughtforms, or egregores shaped by attention and belief. One line changes the whole frame: saints are ghosts too, because devotion keeps the presence of once-living people active in the world.    From there, the stories hit. We share a corroborated stairwell apparition, a silvery night visitor that brushes up against sleep paralysis and “hag attack” folklore, and a paranormal investigation moment that turns funny and unnerving at the same time. We also go deep on “time is an illusion,” including how a séance can touch energies from the living, the dead, or even a future self, depending on how you think time is “sliced.”    We end with what we wish more people understood: don’t yuck other people’s yum, don’t rush to explain away your own experience, and approach spirits with kindness and basic respect. If you enjoy thoughtful ghost stories, witchy philosophy, and grounded spiritual practice, hit play, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review. How To Celebrate Fall Equinox | A Witch & A Shaman
2026/09/22
Text or VM the Show The fall equinox can feel like a line in the calendar, but it is also experienced in your body and your lifestyle. We take a listener question from our community and explore what it actually means to celebrate the autumn equinox when your weather, your schedule, and even your landscape do not match the classic “crunchy leaves” picture.    From Granddaughter Crow’s shamanic perspective, we talk about equilibrium as something you can sense across the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual bodies. That theme turns into practical ideas you can try immediately: step outside and notice the light, the temperature, and the earlier sunsets, then ask yourself what kind of balance fits this season. We also get delightfully nerdy about a folk practice you may have heard of: balancing an egg on the equinox as a tiny ritual for finding your center.    Jenny C. Bell brings the witchy, seasonal living lens, including how to work with the Wheel of the Year in places where fall still looks like summer. We talk warm foods and traditional Chinese medicine inspired shifts, journaling and card reading prompts for “where am I balanced” and “where am I off,” and the gentle power of letting old goals drop away like leaves. Plus, we end with a cozy tangent on fall playlists, from cool jazz to PJ Harvey’s White Chalk.    Subscribe, share this with a friend who loves seasonal rituals, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. #AutumnEquinox #WheelOfTheYear #SeasonalLiving Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! How To: A Guide to Divination | JoAnna Farrer author of The Diviner’s Path
2026/09/20
Text or VM the Show You can learn a lot of tarot keywords and still feel stuck the moment a real question hits. We wanted to get underneath that frustration and talk about what actually makes divination work: listening, timing, symbolism, and the courage to respond. Our guest JoAnna Ferrar (Llewellyn author, priestess, divination teacher, and professional violinist) brings a rare blend of musical training and spiritual practice that makes the “language” of signs feel practical instead of mystical and vague.  We dig into why silence matters as much as sound and how pauses create the space where intuition can speak. JoAnna walks us through her nature-led approach from The Diviner Path, including the idea that divination is a cycle you live inside: realizing you have a question, shaping it, choosing a method (tarot, pendulum, runes, omens), interpreting, taking action, and returning to reflect. We also talk about the modern “party trick” version of divination and why it can feel scary when you skip the action step and forget you’re a participant in the conversation.  From there we head outdoors for augury, omen walks, and the art of rebuilding observation in the natural world, then into dream divination without rigid dream dictionaries. Joanna shares how symbols blend cultural meaning with deeply personal associations and why “spirit logic is sideways logic.” We also explore her devotion to Apollo and the link between technique and inspiration, plus a playful M&M divination practice that proves spirit can speak through almost anything when you learn how to listen.  If this conversation helps you rethink how you ask questions and read signs, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave us a review so more listeners can find the show. JoAnna Ferrar is a Llewellyn author, priestess, divination teacher, oracular practitioner, professional violinist, and host of the Coffee & Divination podcast.  JoAnna's background as a professional musician and graduate of the Juilliard School has made her uniquely attuned to the world of symbols and their nuanced interpretations—a skill she brings to her work in divination. She is a coven leader and teacher. Her book, The Diviner’s Path, offers a nature-led approach to divination with tarot, runes, pendulums, and omens. JoAnna’s work explores land-based divination, animism, seer work, and practical ways of connecting with our intuition and the spirits around us.  JoAnna is the host of the Coffee and Divination podcast, which she launched in 2020 to feature interviews with prominent authors and practitioners of occult, pagan, and divinatory arts. Easy Daily Spiritual Ritual | A Witch & A Shaman... 100th Episode Celebration
2026/09/16
Text or VM the Show Your day is already full, so we’re not here to hand you another impossible checklist. We’re here to help you turn what you already do into a daily ritual that actually feels nourishing, grounded, and doable. Jenny C Bell and I start with the simplest foundation: if you have a routine, you can make it spiritually minded. That can be as small as greeting the sun or the moon, taking one breath before coffee, or speaking your day with clear intention.    From there, we get specific with real-world spiritual practices for busy witches and spiritual practitioners. We talk about “double duty” rituals like brushing your teeth with a prayer for clean words, using small visual cues on your everyday items to trigger affirmations, charging jewelry as a talisman, and letting a shower become an energetic cleanse. Jenny shares how parenting and structure can support spirituality, including a quick Archangel Michael protection prayer in the car that helps everyone reset before the day begins.    We also go deeper into daily practice tools: greeting your home and the room you work in, calling in the four elements, making offerings, smoke cleansing with mugwort (plus alternatives for smoke season), and pulling tarot and oracle cards to track what energy is leaving and what’s coming in. We end with two powerful closers: a nightly candle ritual and “a prayer for the people” as a way to release what you’ve been carrying, plus journaling tips that include gratitude journaling, voice notes, and a simple question you can write before sleep to invite clarity through dreams.    If you try any of these daily rituals, tell us what changed for you, then subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find Belief Being and Beyond.  #DailyRitual #SpiritualPractice #Witchcraft #EverydayMagic #Spirituality  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! A Native Greek Priestess Reviving the Lost Earth Temple Arts | Elyse Welles Author of Sacred Wild
2026/09/13
Text or VM the Show The land is not a backdrop. It is a relationship and once you start treating it that way, your whole spiritual life changes.   We’re joined by Elyse Welles, best-selling author of Sacred Wild and a modern Greek priestess devoted to reviving earth temple arts of the Mediterranean. We talk about how her childhood split between Greece and rural Pennsylvania made land-connection feel normal, not mystical, and why that matters for anyone trying to heal from rigid dogma or spiritual disconnection. From Artemis and sacred springs to a tree you can cry against, we explore what it means to be shaped by place instead of trying to force spirituality into a single “right” framework.    From there, we dig into Elyse’s idea of spiritual archaeology: going to a place you feel called to and “excavating” through ritual, trance, sound, and active listening before you ever reach for research. We also address a question we hear constantly: can you connect to the land if you’re not Indigenous to it? Elyse breaks down the difference between respectful relationship and borrowed customs, and she shares simple practices anyone can start today, even if you live in an apartment and your sacred space is a nearby park or a small patch of green.    We also get into the songs of the land, frame drum work, and why some melodies belong to one river, one hillside, one season. Elyse shares what her immersive pilgrimages in Greece actually look like, why she keeps groups small, and how dream oracle work and sacred waters change the way you move through the world.   If you enjoyed this conversation, subscribe, share it with a friend who needs a way back to the Earth, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. How Do You Find Your Spiritual Allies? A Witch & A Shaman explore Spirit Allies
2026/09/09
Text or VM the Show A crystal catches your eye, an herb keeps showing up in your yard, or a particular animal won’t leave your thoughts. Is that random, or is it relationship? We lean into a community question that goes straight to the heart of nature-based spirituality: how do you choose your allies, the energies you work with in ritual, spell work, and daily practice, and what if they’re choosing you? We talk about “ally” as a living, energetic partnership with the natural world, whether that ally is an animal guide, a plant, an element, or a stone. For us, the foundation is consent and exchange: you bring intention and attention, and the ally brings its medicine, symbolism, and presence. Granddaughter Crow breaks down the idea of agreement through an energy lens, including how attraction can be a message, not just a preference. We also explore how your body can recognize a true fit before your mind can justify it, the same way you sometimes just know a friendship is real. Jenny C. Bell shares a standout animal guide story from early in her path: expecting a cat, getting nothing, then meeting a wolf, and later experiencing jaw-dropping confirmation at a wolf sanctuary when wolves repeatedly chose her. From there, we widen the view to herbal allies that appear, crystals that seem to call you off the shelf, and a simple practice that works whether you’re brand new or deeply seasoned: follow curiosity. Curiosity and intuition often move together, and you don’t need a perfect reason to start listening. If you’ve been waiting for a clear sign, this conversation gives you a grounded way to notice what’s already reaching for you. Subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review, then tell us: what ally keeps showing up in your life right now?  #SpiritAllies #NatureSpirituality #Intuition  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! What is Slavic Paganism in the Words of a Serbian American | Anna Urošević Applegate author "Slava!"
2026/09/06
Text or VM the Show Rev. Anna Urošević Applegate sits down with Granddaughter Crow and Jenny C Bell to share. As a first-generation Serbian American, she grew up moving between languages, calendars, and expectations, carrying both the ache of otherness and the seed of a powerful spiritual skill: living in liminal space. We talk about how that early tension later becomes a doorway into ancestral reverence, animism, and Slavic polytheism that feels earthy, direct, and startlingly practical. Anna walks us through the Slavic world tree and the three realms of reality: Prav (the gods), Yav (the living world), and Nav (the underworld and the ancestors). We unpack why the underworld is not “evil” in this tradition, how darkness can be nourishing, and what it looks like to build right relationship with deities like Perun, Veles, and Mokosh through offerings, prayer, and place. Along the way, we connect these teachings to the present moment, including ecological spirituality, land spirits, water spirits, and the urgent need to stop treating nature as something we own.  We also get real about cultural appreciation versus cultural appropriation. Anna shares a clear, respectful approach for curious seekers and for people reclaiming Slavic heritage after generations of forced assimilation: learn the language, meet living communities, ask for guidance, and don’t “steal and sell” what isn’t yours. She also shares the years of research and family interviewing that shaped her book Slava!, including how caregiving and death work sharpened her sense of what lies beyond the veil, and why ancestors feel close, not gone. If this conversation moves you, subscribe, share it with a friend, and leave us a review so more people can find Belief Being and Beyond. Bio: Rev. Anna Urošević Applegate is a Chicago native and first-generation Serbian American who was taught to believe in the Spirit World and the beneficent intervention of her ancestors in daily life from a very early age. A Queer Witch, certified Death Midwife, and pious Polytheist who tends to roll out a welcome mat to chthonic Deities in particular, she became active in the Chicago Fellowship of Isis (FOI) community in 2002 and received her legal ordination as a Priestess in 2012. Anna is passionate about fostering inclusive Rodnovery, or Slavic Native Faith, and is the founder of the Circle of Rodu, which promotes the ancestral reclamation of the worship of Slavic Deities throughout the global Slavic Diaspora. Do You Need a Spiritual Label? A Witch & a Shaman Talk Identity
2026/09/02
Text or VM the Show You don’t need to pick a box and live inside of it; you might need a label to express parts of self to others. We love to take on a community question we hear: do witches, pagans, and spiritual seekers actually need labels, or are all these titles just noise? From “crystal witch” to “eclectic witch,” we talk honestly about why naming your path can feel empowering at first, and why it can quietly become limiting when you cling to it.     We also get real about ego and identity. Jenny shares how years of releasing labels through spiritual practice can collide with modern pressure to declare a niche for social media, teaching, and creative work. Granddaughter Crow adds a grounded perspective on making “your ego your amigo,” recognizing the ego as a protective part of you while staying rooted in something deeper than a tagline.     One of the most powerful moments comes through a story about language and worldview, including Navajo and English ways of thinking. “Get to know a tree” becomes a mirror for how the left brain labels and separates, while a more relational way of knowing observes connection, presence, and the unseen forces moving through everything. If you’ve ever felt torn between finding your people and staying true to your own evolving practice, this conversation will help you hold both.     Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s questioning their spiritual identity, and leave us a review so more listeners can find the show.   #SpiritualIdentity #Witchcraft #AuthenticSpirituality  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! How to Find Spiritual Community Without Losing Yourself | Judika Illes, Deborah Blake, Mat Auryn
2026/08/30
Text or VM the Show Tonight’s Roundtable Dialogue is on the Topic of Community – moreover spiritual community. Seasonally, it is autumn here in the Northern Hemisphere and kids are going back to school, and there is a community focus before the winter sets in.  Our spiritual practices can range from being a solitary practioner, to being a part of a larger coven, kindred, or even a small witchy book club.  Community and a sense of community can change throughout the years both individually, as well as collectively. So we will be exploring the concept of community, how it changes over time, and any insights for our future.  We have AMAZING Guests with us this evening, Judika Illes, Deborah Blake, and Mat Auryn. The dialogue is both informative and funny!  However, let’s not stop here. I would encourage you to consider this topic in your life, and even to bring this dialogue to your community.  With that being said… It is my brightest honor to bring you Tonight’s Roundtable Dialogue.  Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s looking for their circle, and leave a review so more seekers can find Belief Being and Beyond. What Are Spirit Guides? A Witch & a Shaman Explore Spiritual Guidance
2026/08/26
Text or VM the Show We sit down for a community Q&A with Granddaughter Crow and Jenny C. Bell to unpack what spirit guides are, how a spirit guide team can include ancestors, animals, nature spirits, angels, deities, crystals, and more, and why none of it needs to fit into a spiritual hierarchy. We talk about how guides can even meet you in forms you can accept right now, and how that relationship can last for a season, a lifetime, or across many lifetimes. Then we get practical about how to talk to spirit guides. For us, it is not only meditation and candles. It is word and deed: an ongoing relationship you build through conversation and follow through. Jenny shares why she calls on “spirit guides of highest consciousness” for discernment, and we both break down how guides often respond through symbology and synchronicities like repeating numbers, songs on the radio, feathers on your path, tarot cards, and vivid dreams. We also name the impact of religious conditioning that discourages questions, and why asking for confirmation can be a healthy part of intuitive guidance. If you have ever wondered whether you are doing it “right,” this conversation brings you back to something simpler: unlearning, becoming more childlike, and noticing what is already speaking to you. Subscribe, share this with a friend who is guide curious, and leave a review so more listeners can find Belief Being and Beyond.  #SpiritGuides #SpiritCommunication #Intuition #Shamanism #Witchcraft  Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! Crystal Divination & Scrying | with Nicholas Pearson, Crystal Expert
2026/08/23
Text or VM the Show Ever picked up a stone and felt like it had something to say, but you weren’t sure how to listen? We’re joined by Nicholas Pearson, one of today’s leading voices in crystal healing and gemstone magic, to make crystal divination feel clear, grounded, and doable. We talk about his work on Crystal Divination and why the best results come from a surprising mix of structure, patience, and play.    We start with scrying, the classic crystal-gazing practice that looks simple on the surface and gets deeply nuanced the longer you stay with it. Nicholas walks us through what scrying actually is, what you might perceive when you soften your gaze, and how to set yourself up for a real experience without forcing fireworks. Along the way, we land on a principle that applies to every spiritual practice: curiosity is the best cure for attachment. When you stop demanding a specific outcome and start wondering, your intuition has room to speak.    Then we shift into lithomancy, or divination by drawing and casting stones. If tarot feels intimidating or you want a more hands-on method, casting stones can be a powerful alternative. We explore how to build a small curated set, how to read placement and patterns, and why the most important “tool” isn’t the stone at all, it’s the question you ask. We also hear what Nicholas is working on next, including his upcoming Reiki-focused writing.    Subscribe for more conversations like this, share the episode with a friend who loves crystals or divination, and leave a review so more curious listeners can find us. Bio: Nicholas Pearson is one of today's leading voices in crystal healing and gemstone magic. He is the author of more than ten books, including Crystal Basics, Stones of the Goddess, and The Witching Stones. Nicholas offers a unique blend of science and spirituality alongside a grounded, practical approach to working with crystals. What is Channeling? A Witch & A Shaman Explore Channeling
2026/08/19
Text or VM the Show This is a segment called A Witch & A Shaman (W&S) where Jenny C Bell & Granddaughter Crow sit down to answer questions. This question came to us from Our Coven Community, “Can you share more about channeling, your experience and how it works?” The weirdest moment can be the most revealing: you hear yourself say “we,” you choose words you never use, and afterward you wonder where that message came from. That is the doorway into today’s community Q and A, where we unpack channeling in a grounded way that respects both mystery and personal agency. Jenny C. Bell and I treat channeling as a spectrum, from subtle intuition and divination insights to deeper ritual states where you feel like a vessel for a presence, a deity, or a guiding intelligence.    We also widen the lens beyond witchcraft and shamanism. Channeling can look like creative flow, the muses, and inspiration, the feeling musicians describe when a concert turns spiritual and time disappears. If you have ever been so “in it” that you felt tuned to something bigger than your everyday mind, you already understand the core mechanic. From there, we get practical: we share the metaphors that help us stay in control, like turning a radio dial to a specific station or opening and closing a door on purpose.    Then we get serious about what keeps channeling safe: spiritual protection, clear boundaries, and consent. You get to decide what comes through and what does not. We talk about why inebriation can lower boundaries, how to set sacred space like you are hosting a guest, and why closing the space matters if you do not want to feel exhausted afterward. We also share aftercare essentials, including water, protein, rest, and reintegration time.    If you feel curious, that curiosity might be your signal that you are ready to develop your channeling practice with clarity and respect. Subscribe, share this with a friend who is exploring psychic development, and leave a review, what is your biggest question about channeling right now? Qigong & Magic for Grounding | with Rene Collins, Qigong Expert
2026/08/16
Text or VM the Show Your spiritual practice can be powerful and still leave you wiped out. If you’ve ever felt a ritual hangover, floated out of your body for days, or tried to “push through” with borrowed energy, this conversation is a reset. We’re joined by Rene Collins, a magician, musician, and long-time qigong practitioner who teaches Magical Qigong for the pagan community, and he brings a grounded, practical lens to energy, health, and real-world spiritual hygiene.     We talk about what qigong actually is: life force energy cultivation as a lifestyle, not a one-time fix. Rene shares his path through martial arts, meditation, and multiple magical traditions, plus a vivid story of blending qigong with Western magic during a circus storm. From there we get into why so many spiritual people feel ungrounded, how the hun and po can drift apart, and what it looks like to rebuild the body as the container for spirit.     Seasonal wisdom plays a big role too. Rene breaks down late summer and fall through the five elements, connecting digestion, lungs, boundaries, and protective energy. We explore how cooler weather and “veil season” can affect both immunity and energetic shielding, and why building your own internal “biosphere” matters. He also explains “casting on empty,” energy leaks, and false power, then offers a simple structure: foundational qigong before ritual, then again after, so you refill the battery instead of burning out.     If you want a body-based approach to magic, breathwork, grounding, and nervous system support, this one’s for you. Subscribe, share with a friend who needs more stability in their practice, and leave a review so more listeners can find the show. Thank you for supporting Belief, Being, & BEYOND! Self-Transformation w/The Initiates Oracle | with Marcella Kroll
2026/08/09
Text or VM the Show A scarab on the cover isn’t just pretty design, it’s a symbol of transformation. We’re joined by Marcella Kroll, a psychic medium, occult practitioner, and spiritual counselor, to talk about The Initiates Oracle and why this deck is built for ritual, integration, and real-life rebirth rather than quick fortune telling. We get into how symbol, color, and archetype can speak straight to the body, especially when words fail.  Marcella shares the story behind the deck’s origins: a 2022 journey through Egypt with a Hermetic magic school, initiations and rituals in sacred temples, and days on the Nile that kept her in a dreamlike liminal space. From that experience, we explore how spiritual travel imprints the nervous system, how creativity becomes a vessel for the ineffable, and why initiations show up as repeated thresholds across a lifetime.  We also talk practical divination and intuitive development: setting intention, pulling one card, entering the imagery like a portal, journaling what you see, then using the guidebook as support before you integrate the message in daily life. Marcella breaks down her Depth Oracle program and what it means to honor the oracle archetype with ethics, boundaries, self-trust, and community in the digital age. She closes with a grounding reminder that hits hard right now: breathe, stay centered, and pause between reaction and response.  Subscribe for more conversations on mysticism, oracle decks, liminal space, and spiritual practice, and if this one resonates, share it and leave a review so more listeners can find the work. Bio: Marcella Kroll is a multi-hyphenate artist, author, and intuitive with nearly 20 years of experience in the fields of divination, creativity, and spiritual empowerment. Known for their grounded presence and visionary insight, Marcella has been a trusted tarot reader and medium for celebrity clients, entrepreneurs, and cultural institutions alike.    They have been featured on the television series Joan Knows Best with Joan Rivers, interviewed on the acclaimed podcast For The Wild, and invited to speak and lead public talks, ritual, s and experiences at venues such as The Lucas Museum and the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the Philosophical Research Society (Los Angeles), and UC Davis.
