In this episode of The Heart Matters Podcast, host Ibn Leon begins by reflecting on two important hadiths that teach us how to gain nearness to Allah. These narrations remind us that drawing closer to Allah is achieved through sincere worship, obedience, and seeking His pleasure in our daily lives Ibn Leon then continues the journey through The Forty Hadith of Imam Nawawi with Hadith 39, a beautiful reminder of Allah’s mercy and forgiveness. This hadith teaches that Allah has pardoned the Muslim for unintentional mistakes, forgetfulness, and actions committed under coercion. It highlights the immense mercy of Allah and the fact that we are not held accountable for matters beyond our intention and control. At the same time, the explanation reminds us that being pardoned for a sin or mistake does not necessarily remove every responsibility that may result from it. There may still be duties that need to be fulfilled, omissions that need to be corrected, or harm done to others that must be compensated. This episode offers an important balance between hope in Allah’s forgiveness and responsibility for our actions, while encouraging us to continually seek Allah’s nearness and live according to His guidance. Holding firmly to the way of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, taking them as an example, and abandoning religious innovations—for indeed, every innovation is misguidance. Many of us (Muslims) believe this principle is restrictive, but it's not. It's actual freedom, brings about unity, and ensures that our deeds are accepted by Allah.
