Ep 125 - How Press Coverage Leads To AI Recommending You - An Interview with Jo Jessop Maloney
2026/09/28
Nearly Half of People Now Ask AI for Recommendations. Press coverage helps AI recommend you because 84% of what AI tools cite comes from earned media, according to Muck Rack. And with 45% of consumers now asking AI for business recommendations, up from just 6% a year earlier (BrightLocal), being quoted in the press matters more than ever. In this episode, I'm joined by award-winning PR consultant Jo Jessop Maloney, who helped get my old business, The Children's Nutritionist, into the Telegraph, HuffPost, the Mirror, the Independent and so many more publications. I ask Jo why influencers so often get the quote instead of dietitians, and she walks us through reactive, trending and proactive PR, plus how to find your story when you're convinced you haven't got one. We also talk about what to do when the fear of what everyone will think feels louder than the opportunity. What you'll learn: - How press coverage helps ChatGPT and other AI tools recommend your business - Why journalists often quote influencers instead of registered dietitians - How to get featured in the press as a dietitian or health professional - The difference between reactive, trending and proactive PR - The importance of a media bio and content bank so you can answer journalist requests fast - When a press release is worth writing, and when it isn't - How to find your personal story angle without sharing more than you're comfortable with - How to handle the fear of judgement from colleagues when you start doing PR Resources mentioned: - Muck Rack (2026). What Is AI Reading? (May 2026 edition). https://muckrack.com/blog/what-is-ai-reading-may-2026 - BrightLocal (2026). Ep. 124 - Why Isn’t My Dietetic Business Making More Money?
2026/09/21
If your dietetic business isn’t making enough money, the problem probably isn’t your offer. It’s more likely that potential clients are getting stuck somewhere in the journey between finding you and buying from you. To make more money as a dietitian, you need to work out where that drop-off is happening before you start changing everything. In this episode, I walk you through the five stages I use to diagnose what’s really happening in a dietetic business: be found, be followed, be trusted, be chosen and be loved. I’ll show you how to spot the gaps between each stage, the numbers I use as reference points, and why looking at the data is so much more useful than guessing what needs fixing. I also share the story of my paediatric dietitian client Laura, who created a 72-page children's nutrition guide and sold just six copies. The surprising part? Her marketing wasn’t actually the problem. We discovered that the product was simply too comprehensive for the specific problem her audience wanted solved. I’ll also share what happened in my own nutrition business, where a free quiz brought 5,382 parents onto my mailing list and more than 300 people went on to buy a £9.99 portion size guide through an automated email sequence. What you’ll learn Why your dietetic business might not be making money despite working hard and creating plenty of contentHow to identify where potential clients are dropping out of your customer journeyWhat the five stages of a profitable dietitian customer journey areHow to tell whether you have a “be found”, “be followed” or “be trusted” gapWhat email marketing can do to turn freebie subscribers into paying customersHow to create a digital product that solves one specific problem rather than trying to teach everythingWhat conversion numbers to look at when you want to make more money as a dietitianWhy low-cost digital products can help people move towards your higher-value offers Learn more about the 90-Day Sprint here: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/90-day-sprint I'd love to hear from you, click the link to 'text' the show directly Lets keep in touch! Ep. 123 - Why I Closed Down my Multi 6-Figure Nutrition Business
2026/09/14
Online courses often fail to deliver results because people don’t actually work through the material or implement what they’ve learned. In my own Fussy Eating Fix programme, 25% of people had never even started the programme, including one person who logged in 21 times without opening the first lesson. In this episode, I’m taking you properly behind the scenes of my decision to close down The Children’s Nutritionist, the multi-six-figure nutrition business I’d spent nearly 20 years building. I’ll share what an Asana notification, some uncomfortable data in my Kajabi dashboard and my own experience as a mum taught me about offers, delivery and why people sometimes don’t get the results we know they’re capable of getting. I’ll also explain the delivery model I now use inside my business coaching, and how you can create more structured accountability without going back to delivering everything one-to-one. What you’ll learn: Why online courses fail even when the content itself is goodHow to use course engagement data to find out why people aren’t getting resultsHow to improve online course completion without delivering everything one-to-oneWhat a 25% non-start rate can reveal about your programmeWhy one client’s lack of results shouldn’t make you question your entire offerHow structured accountability can help people implement what you teachHow weekly content releases can make an online programme easier to completeHow to create a scalable hybrid delivery model for your digital product Want to build your own digital product? My Idea to Income 90 Day Sprint helps you turn one proven idea into a digital product and simple sales system in 90 days, with weekly builds, accountability and live support. Ep. 122 - How Can I Make More Money as a Freelance Dietitian Without Working More Hours?
2026/09/07
If you want to make more money as a freelance dietitian without filling your diary with more one-to-one appointments, passive income from a low-cost digital product could be the answer. I made a £9.99 digital guide that consistently brought in £400 to £800 a month, and 32% of my highest-paying clients had bought something low-cost from me first. In this episode, I’m showing you how dietitians can turn their existing expertise into a digital product, then build a simple automated sales system that can sell it while you’re seeing clients, walking the dog or (ideally) having a bath without your phone glued to your hand. I’ll walk you through the process I use in my own business, from finding a digital product idea people actually want to buy, to creating a free resource, building an email list and setting up automated emails that take someone from discovering you to becoming a customer. I’ll also explain why your low-cost offer can be about much more than making a few extra pounds. Done well, it can create a new income stream, help fund your marketing and introduce potential clients to your expertise before they ever consider your premium services. What you’ll learn: How dietitians can create passive income without adding more one-to-one appointmentsHow to find digital product ideas your audience is already willing to pay forHow to identify a specific problem that makes a good low-cost digital productHow to build a simple sales funnel for a dietitian digital productHow automated email sequences can sell your digital product while you’re working with clientsHow low-cost digital products can lead customers towards premium offersHow to use AI to create marketing assets without becoming a tech expertHow to build a new digital income stream in 90 days with focused time each week Links mentioned in this episode: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dietitiansinbusiness/ 90-Day Sprint: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/90-day-sprint I'd love to hear from you, click the link to 'text' the show directly Lets keep in touch! Ep 121 - Why Has My Blog Traffic Dropped? AI Search Explained For Dietitians
2026/08/31
If your blog traffic has dropped, it doesn’t necessarily mean your SEO is wrong or that your content isn’t good enough. Google search has changed, and AI is increasingly answering people’s questions without them ever clicking through to your website. In this episode, I explain what’s happening to Google search, how AI is changing the way people find information, and what this means for your SEO as a dietitian or health professional. I also share what happened to the traffic and advertising income on my own children’s nutrition website, and the three practical things I’d focus on now rather than simply publishing more blogs. I saw this shift first-hand. My children’s nutrition website once attracted around 150,000 visitors every month, with advertising income of around £2,000 to £4,000 a month. At its lowest point, traffic had fallen by around 100,000 visitors a month compared with its peak, and advertising income was closer to £400 a month. What you'll learn Why your Google traffic can fall even when your blog content is still genuinely usefulHow AI Overviews are changing the way people use Google searchWhy people may be getting answers from AI without clicking through to your websiteHow AI decides which paragraphs and information to use when answering health questionsHow to structure blog posts so Google and AI can understand your answers more easilyWhy answering one specific client question can be more valuable than writing another huge general blogHow to check what Google and ChatGPT are showing for the questions your clients ask you most oftenWhy your dietitian credentials and evidence-based approach can become an advantage in AI searchI'd love to hear from you, click the link to 'text' the show directly Lets keep in touch! Ep 120 - How To Get ChatGPT to recommend you
2026/08/24
Ep 120: How To Get Chat GPT to Recommend YouYes, you can make it more likely that ChatGPT recommends your business by making your expertise, niche, location and credibility really clear and consistent across your online presence. AI is increasingly helping people decide who to work with, so it needs to be able to understand who you are, who you help and why you're a credible choice. In this episode, I’m breaking down what we currently know about how AI decides which businesses and health professionals to recommend. I’ll show you the practical changes you can make to your website, Google Business Profile, professional directories and other online profiles so ChatGPT and other AI tools have the information they need to understand your business. One of my dietitian clients and I tested this during one of our coaching calls. We searched for the best children’s allergy dietitian in the UK, and despite her being a well-known specialist in exactly that area, she wasn’t mentioned in the Gemini AI overview. It was a brilliant reminder that being excellent at what you do doesn’t automatically mean AI knows to recommend you. What you'll learn How ChatGPT decides which businesses and health professionals to recommendHow to make your business easier for ChatGPT to understandWhy your website, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and directories need consistent informationHow to use client reviews and case studies to demonstrate your business expertiseWhat your website needs to include so AI can find and understand your servicesHow professional credentials and trusted online directories can strengthen your credibilityHow to check whether ChatGPT is already recommending your businessFour simple changes you can make today to help AI understand who you are and who you help Your next step: Take an hour this week to check what ChatGPT says when you search for someone like you. Try three questions your ideal client might ask, see who gets recommended, and note what those businesses have online that you might be missing. Then make one small improvement to your own online presence. If you try it, I’d love to hear what you discover. DM me a screenshot of your results and let me know whether ChatGPT knows you exist yet. 118 ChatGPT or Claude? Which is Best For Freelance Dietitians? PART 1
2026/08/10
Have you ever asked AI to write something for you… only to spend longer rewriting it than it would have taken to create yourself? If you've been wondering why everyone else seems to be saving hours every week with AI while you're still getting bland, generic content, this episode is for you. In part one of this two-part series, I'm putting ChatGPT under the microscope. I share the features I genuinely use every week in my own business, where ChatGPT excels, where it falls short, and why I think so many freelance dietitians are using just a tiny fraction of what it's capable of. We'll explore everything from creating AI-generated brand photos and having real-time voice conversations with ChatGPT, through to one of my favourite features: Custom GPTs. I'll explain how I've built AI assistants that understand my business, my clients and even the way I write, and how you can create your own to save time, improve your marketing and even enhance your client experience. I also cover one topic that every regulated healthcare professional needs to understand before using AI in practice: GDPR and handling sensitive client data safely. If you've been curious about AI but aren't sure you're getting the best from it, this episode will give you practical ideas you can start using straight away. In this episode you'll discover: Why ChatGPT and Claude are not interchangeable AI tools. The biggest mistake most freelance dietitians make when using AI.How ChatGPT can generate professional images without an expensive brand photoshoot. Why voice conversations with ChatGPT can become your best brainstorming partner. What Custom GPTs are and how they can save you hours every week. How I use multiple Custom GPTs across my own business.Ways you can create AI-powered tools for your own nutrition clients. The GDPR mistakes every health professional needs to avoid when using AI.How better prompts dramatically improve your AI results. Why I'll be comparing ChatGPT with Claude in Part 2 next week.Free Resource I've created a free guide that shows you exactly how to write prompts that produce far better results from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and other AI tools. Download your free prompt guide here: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/prompt-patient If you've ever thought "AI just doesn't sound like me", this guide will help you change that. Ep 117 - AI is coming for your clients. Here's how to make sure they choose you instead
2026/08/03
Ep 117 - AI is coming for your clients. Here's how to make sure they choose you instead AI is changing how people search for nutrition advice. More people are turning to tools like ChatGPT before they ever consider booking an appointment with a dietitian. While AI can generate meal plans and answer nutrition questions in seconds, it cannot replace clinical judgement, human empathy or the trust that comes from working with a registered health professional. This episode explores where AI falls short, why those limitations create an opportunity for dietitians, and how content marketing can position health professionals as the obvious choice in an AI-driven world. In this episode: Why more people are using AI for nutrition advice before seeking professional support.Where ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini perform well and where they fall short. The clinical reasoning AI cannot replicate. Why AI-generated meal plans can miss important nutritional and safety considerations. How to use educational content to build trust and authority. The role of storytelling in differentiating from AI.Practical ways to position dietetic expertise as more valuable than generic AI advice. Why visibility and consistent content marketing matter more than ever. How trust influences buying decisions in an AI-driven world. 116 It Took My Client 4.5 years to Buy From Me. Here's Why That's Not a Problem - It's a Strategy
2026/07/27
Do you ever feel like you're doing everything right in your business, posting consistently, growing your audience and sending regular emails, but people still aren't buying? If you've ever wondered whether your marketing is actually working, this episode is for you. I'm sharing the data from my own business that reveals just how dramatically client buying behaviour has changed in recent years. The truth is, people are taking much longer to invest, and that's not necessarily a problem. In fact, some of your best future clients may already be quietly watching, reading and listening to your content right now. In this episode, I'll walk you through what I've discovered about modern buying behaviour in 2026, why email marketing matters more than ever for dietitians and health professionals, and how to build a marketing strategy that works for both fast buyers and those who need time to trust you before they say yes. In this episode, you'll learn: How the average time it takes someone to buy has changed over the last five years. Why longer buying cycles are becoming the norm in online business. What my data reveals about client buying behaviour in 2026.Why email marketing is one of the most valuable assets in your business. The difference between fast buyers and nurture buyers. How webinars and live events continue to generate sales long after they've finished. Why your content is working harder than you think, even when results feel slow. The marketing metrics you should be paying attention to instead of obsessing over monthly sales.Practical ways to build trust and nurture potential clients over the long term. How to create a marketing strategy that supports both immediate and future sales. If you've been wondering whether your audience is paying attention or worrying that people are taking too long to buy from you, I hope this episode gives you a fresh perspective. 115 I Tracked 120 Clients Over 5 Years. Here's the Real Customer Journey Nobody Talks About
2026/07/20
Do you know where your best clients are really coming from? If you're relying on gut instinct to decide where to spend your marketing time, you might be working much harder than you need to. In this episode of Beyond the Clinic, I'm sharing what happened when I analysed the data from 120 paying clients over the last five years. The patterns completely changed the way I think about marketing for dietitians and other health professionals, and they challenged some of the biggest assumptions we hear online about customer journeys, freebies and webinars. You'll discover why some people buy almost immediately while others quietly follow your work for years before investing, why your highest-paying clients may take the longest to convert, and how understanding your own buyer journey can help you make far better business decisions. If you've ever wondered whether your marketing is actually working, this episode will encourage you to stop guessing and start taking a more evidence-based approach to growing your business. In this episode you'll learn: Why evidence-based business is just as important as evidence-based practice. The surprising truth about where my clients actually come from. Why Instagram isn't doing as much of the heavy lifting as I once thought. What my data revealed about freebies, lead magnets and email nurturing. Why many buyers need multiple touch points before they're ready to invest. How a simple offer ladder can increase repeat business and lifetime customer value. How the buyer journey has changed dramatically over the last five years. Why your highest-paying clients often take the longest to make a decision. What my client data says about webinars (despite everyone saying they're dead).Practical ways to improve your marketing for dietitians using your own business data instead of assumptions. If you enjoyed this episode, make sure you subscribe so you don't miss Part Two, where I'll explain why buying behaviour has changed and what you need to do differently in your business to keep attracting clients in today's market. 114 4 MORE things the NHS taught you that are secretly costing you clients
2026/07/13
If you're wondering why your private practice isn't growing as quickly as you'd hoped, despite being an excellent dietitian, this episode could be the missing piece. The truth is, many of the habits that made you brilliant in the NHS can quietly hold you back when you're trying to grow your own business. They shape the way you market yourself, communicate with potential clients and make decisions as a business owner. And because they've become part of your professional identity, you often don't even realise they're there. 2026/07/06
If you've created a digital product but the sales just aren't coming in consistently, you're not alone. And here's the thing... it doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong with your offer. In this episode, I'm diving into three of the biggest sales process mistakes I see dietitians and other health professionals making after they've created a digital product. These are the mistakes that quietly stop great offers from selling, even when they're genuinely helpful and perfectly priced. Last week, we covered the foundational mistakes people make before creating a digital product. This week, we're looking at what happens afterwards. We'll talk about why email marketing is essential, why consistency matters far more than you think, and why every digital product should lead somewhere else if you want to build a business that generates predictable income. If you're serious about creating a business with more freedom, more consistency and less reliance on trading time for money, this episode is packed with practical advice you can implement straight away. In this episode you'll learn: Why email marketing is the most effective way to sell digital products. The surprising conversion results from my own nutrition business and what they taught me.Why relying on social media alone is costing you sales. The common mistake of only talking about your digital product when it's new.How to market the same product repeatedly without sounding repetitive. Why your audience needs to hear about your offers far more often than you think. The importance of creating a natural customer journey with backend offers. How to turn a one-off purchase into a long-term client relationship.Three questions to audit your own digital product sales process today.Mentioned in this episode If you'd like support building and selling digital products that generate consistent income, you can book a free discovery call to find out more about Accelerate, my 12-month business coaching programme for dietitians, nutritionists and other registered health professionals. 112 Common Mistakes That Kill Digital Product Sales - Part 1
2026/06/29
Have you ever created a digital product that you were convinced would sell… only to hear nothing but crickets? I've been there too. In this episode, I'm sharing four of the biggest mistakes I see health professionals make before they've even started selling their digital products. These are mistakes I've made myself while building my nutrition business, and they cost me time, energy and sales. You'll learn why validating your idea matters so much, how pricing can influence perceived value, why discounting often makes sales harder instead of easier, and why people buy outcomes rather than information. This is Part 1 of a two-part series. Today we're focusing on the foundations that need to be in place before you launch. Next week, we'll look at the mistakes people make during the sales process itself. In this episode, you'll learn:  Why validating your digital product idea should always come before creating it.  The three questions you need to answer before investing time in building a product.  How I spent 18 months selling just 24 copies of a course because I created what I wanted to teach instead of what my audience wanted to buy.  Why giving away too much value in a low-cost offer can reduce the perceived value of your expertise.  The difference between strategic discounting and panic discounting.  Why lowering your price rarely fixes slow sales.  How to create digital products that focus on transformation instead of information.  A simple exercise to help you assess whether your own digital product is positioned to sell. Resources mentioned Create & Sell Digital Goods: https://www.sarahalmondbushell.com/digital-goodsEnjoyed this episode?
