League One Review: THIS manager will be next to go!
2026/10/19
Jamie and Tom are back for another review show after a weekend filled with interesting results. Michael Duff secured his first win at Valley Parade, as Bradford City scored two second-half goals to beat Stevenage. It was a first win for Tom Hounsell in permanent charge of Wycombe Wanderers, as they beat a toothless Notts County. Russell Martin is safe for another week, as his Leicester City side deservedly beat Doncaster Rovers. Jamie gives his thoughts after watching the game from the away end at the King Power Stadium. And, Leyton Orient heap the pressure on Ian Evatt with a rare home win over Blackpool, Huddersfield Town beat Plymouth Argyle in a “tentpole win”, and Milton Keynes Dons finally break their winless run. Luton Town suffered their third defeat in four games, putting pressure on Jack Wilshere too. There is also time for the six in six, reviewing the rest of the League One action. That included another win for Cambridge United and two red cards for Oxford United away at Mansfield Town. 00:50 Michael Duff secures first Bradford City win vs Stevenage 05:30 Wycombe Wanderers land victory against Notts County 13:35 Russell Martin secures huge three points for Leicester City 24:04 Leyton Orient heap pressure on Ian Evatt’s Blackpool 30:02 Huddersfield Town win top of the table clash at Plymouth Argyle 40:10 MK Dons win their first game of the season against Luton Town 47:40 Six games in six minutes  ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part of the Football Lowdown Network,  https://footballlowdown.com Visit our other channels; Premier League Lowdown Championship Lowdown, League Two Lowdown,  National League Lowdown, What is the Football Lowdown? Leicester Collapse, Reading Run Riot! - League One Review
2026/10/12
Tom is joined by Jamie for another League One Lowdown Review Show, with plenty of goals, late drama and managerial pressure to discuss following the international break. We start at the King Power Stadium, where Robbie Savage enjoys a dream league debut as Peterborough United manager with a stunning 3-1 victory over Leicester City. Tom was in the away end to witness Posh's transformation under Savage, while Russell Martin faces even more pressure as Leicester's struggles continue. Elsewhere, Jack Wilshere's Luton Town put four past Wycombe Wanderers to spoil Tom Hounsell's first game as permanent manager, while Reading run riot at MK Dons, winning 5-1 despite the absence of Jack Marriott. Is Paul Warne running out of time with the division's only winless side? Huddersfield Town throw away a two-goal lead as Sheffield Wednesday snatch a dramatic late point thanks to a controversial penalty, while Stockport County come from behind to beat Barnsley 3-1, with Kyle Wootton proving too much for the Tykes' defence. Finally, Cambridge United continue their impressive start to the campaign with a 1-0 victory against ten-man Blackpool. Tom and Jamie debate George Honeyman's controversial early red card, whether Cambridge can sustain their excellent form, and the growing pressure on Ian Evatt at Blackpool. There is also time for the Six in Six, covering Mansfield's victory over Bromley, Doncaster's second successive win against Burton, Stevenage beating Wigan, Michael Duff's goalless start at Bradford against Leyton Orient, Plymouth Argyle's dramatic late winner against AFC Wimbledon to go top of League One, and Oxford United's victory at Notts County. Finally, we round off the episode with our League One Team of the Week! 00:33 Has Robbie Savage sunk the Russell Martin ship? 12:20 Tom Hounsell loses in first game as permanent Wycombe Wanderers boss 19:01 MK Dons ship five at home to Reading 27:10 Sheffield Wednesday grab late point against Huddersfield Town 35:30 Stockport County come from behind to beat Barnsley  42:32 Cambridge United beat Blackpool to go into top six 50:05 Six games in six minutes  Part of the Football Lowdown Network,  https://footballlowdown.com Visit our other channels; Premier League Lowdown, League One Lowdown, League Two Lowdown,  National League Lowdown, What is the Football Lowdown Football Lowdown is a fan created independent media platform. League One Review: Risky appointments?
2026/10/05
In Tom’s first week as the new permanent co-host of the League One Lowdown Review Show, there is plenty to talk about on the Peterborough United front. Joining Jamie, the pair discuss all three games from the weekend, as well as answering the question of should we have international breaks in the division? Plymouth Argyle beat Leyton Orient away from home to go top of the table, while Huddersfield Town sink Burton Albion thanks to defensive errors. Bradford City start life without Graham Alexander with a draw away at Reading, while it becomes clear that sacked Wycombe Wanderers boss Michael Duff is the front-runner to take over at Valley Parade. Finally, Tom and Jamie speak about the risky appointment of Robbie Savage at Peterborough, as he signals a new era at the club. 01:50 Plymouth Argyle continue great away form at Leyton Orient 09:55 Huddersfield Town beat Burton Albion 16:34 Bradford City start life without Graham Alexander with draw at Reading 23:57 Is Michael Duff the right man for the Bantams?  30:44 Robbie Savage has been named as the new Peterborough United manager  45:10 Should League One have international breaks? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Part of the Football Lowdown Network,  https://footballlowdown.com Visit our other channels; Premier League Lowdown Championship Lowdown, League Two Lowdown,  National League Lowdown, What is the Football Lowdown Football Lowdown is a fan-created independent media platform. League One Review: Danny Ings Debut and Manager Searches
2026/09/28
Despite there only being four games, there is plenty for Jamie and Tom to discuss. Danny Ings makes an instant impact at Wycombe Wanderers, scoring a late equaliser on debut against Reading. The hunt for a permanent manager to replace Michael Duff continues, with Matt Bloomfield linked.  Elsewhere, Burton Albion shock Plymouth Argyle with victory away from home, and Cambridge United leave it late to draw with AFC Wimbledon.  Peterborough United lose away to Stockport County, as Karl Robinson, Robbie Savage, and many others are linked to the vacant job at Posh. League One Review: Williams sacked, who will be next?
2026/09/21
There is another managerial change to talk about as Peterborough United relieve Luke Williams of his duties after defeat to previously winless Doncaster Rovers. Posh fan Tom joins Jamie to review that, and the rest of the League One results. It includes a shock victory for Bromley against Huddersfield Town, Bradford City going top of the division with a win on the road at Luton Town, and Sheffield Wednesday’s second successive goalless draw. This time it came against Stockport County. Russell Martin’s Leicester City let a one-goal lead slip against 10-man Barnsley, while Plymouth Argyle asserted their authority with a 4-2 win by the coast at Blackpool. There is also time for the six in six to round-up the other results, ahead of the jarring three-week international break. Next On The Chopping Block? - League One Preview
2026/09/17
Welcome back to the League One Lowdown, where Sam takes the reins for a solo edition ahead of another action-packed EFL League One weekend! Kicking things off as the Game of the Week, high-flying Sheffield Wednesday host Stockport County at Hillsborough in a clash between two of the division's top-scoring sides. Wednesday average a home-high 2.8 goals per match, but they will face a stern test from a resilient Stockport team boasting strong away form, having scored seven goals across three away trips already this season. Moving on to the Surprise of the Week, Sam examines whether Bromley can pull off an unexpected result against an unbeaten Huddersfield Town side. Despite Huddersfield’s impressive form, Bromley’s low block, physical style, and direct threats could frustrate the Terriers on a tight home pitch. The episode also highlights Three Things to Watch across the third tier. First, a fierce rivalry unfolds as AFC Wimbledon host MK Dons, with MK Dons eager to turn their frequent draws into three points against a defensively stubborn Wimbledon side. Next, Luton Town travel to Bradford City in a fixture shrouded in headlines; Jack Wilshere looks to patch up a leaky Luton defense that has conceded 13 goals in six matches, while speculation swirls around whether Graham Alexander will remain at Bradford amidst rumors linking him to the open Preston North End job. Finally, Leyton Orient attempt to end an eight-game winless league home stretch against a set-piece dominant Stevenage side, making it a critical fixture for Richie Wellens to build momentum. The rest of the division offers fascinating narratives, including Burton Albion facing Mansfield Town, Barnsley hosting Leicester City, Blackpool taking on Plymouth Argyle, and Peterborough battling Doncaster Rovers. Leicester Collapse at Oxford, Stevenage Hit Five & Six-Goal MK Dons Thriller | League One Review
2026/09/07
Interim hosts Tom and Luke take over hosting duties on the League One Lowdown to break down the weekend’s action, starting at the Kassam Stadium as Oxford United stun Leicester City with a comprehensive 4-0 victory. Just days after Leicester beat Plymouth Argyle, the Foxes are brought crashing back down to earth as Oxford produce one of the standout results of the League One season so far. Things are little better for Barnsley, who concede five at home to Stevenage in another extraordinary result. Stevenage continue their impressive start with a 5-1 victory at Oakwell, while Barnsley are left to pick through the pieces of a defensive collapse. Stockport County, meanwhile, continue to make an increasingly convincing case that they are the best team in League One. A dominant 4-0 win over Wigan Athletic provides yet more evidence of Stockport’s promotion credentials as they continue to set the pace. Reading also enjoy an impressive afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Blackpool, before attention turns to London Road where Peterborough United suffer another self-inflicted defeat. Sheffield Wednesday leave with a 2-1 victory as Posh once again contribute heavily towards their own downfall. There is considerably more entertainment between Wycombe Wanderers and MK Dons, who share six goals in a brilliant 3-3 draw. Luke gives the MK Dons perspective on a game packed with attacking moments, goals and plenty to dissect from both sides. Elsewhere, Luton Town and Leyton Orient share the points in a 1-1 draw, while Huddersfield Town are also held 1-1 by Notts County. Plymouth Argyle respond to their midweek defeat against Leicester in impressive fashion, coming from behind to beat Doncaster Rovers 3-2 in a five-goal contest. Burton Albion and Cambridge United draw 2-2, while Bradford City secure an important 1-0 victory over Mansfield Town.
