Today, that's my daughter's birthday.... and I’m going to tell you about a very personal challenge: passing my native language on to my daughter, who was born and raised in Spain. I’ve been speaking to her in French for five years… even though she almost always answers in Spanish! Between pride, frustration, doubts, and small victories, I share what it really feels like to raise a bilingual child when the environment doesn’t always help. You’ll see that our struggles are often the same: understanding a language is one thing… daring to speak it is another.
