What V-Bar angle should you use on your bow? | Archery Guide
2026/09/28
If you're setting up side rods for the first time, you may be wondering where they should point—and whether changing their angle actually makes a difference. In this video, we cover the basics of V-Bar or single side rod angles, how they change your bow's center of gravity, and how those changes affect both aiming and bow reaction after the shot. Chapters 00:00 What V-Bar Angle Should You Start With? 00:22 Fixed vs Adjustable V-Bars 00:42 V-Bar Angles 101 01:00 How Side Rod Angles Change Center of Gravity 01:31 Lowering / Raising Your Side Rods 02:14 Wider / Narrower Side Rod Angles 03:18 Should Beginners Experiment? 03:41 How to Make Useful Adjustments 04:15 When Should You Change Your V-Bar Angle? 04:37 Where to Go From Here Not sure where to start? Don't overthink it. For a newer archer, we recommend starting around 45° × 0° and spending your time shooting rather than constantly changing your equipment. Once you have enough experience to identify something specific you'd like to change about how your bow aims or reacts, that's when an adjustable V-Bar becomes a useful tuning tool. As a simple rule, there are two main reasons to change your V-Bar angle: 1. Change how the bow aims before the shot. 2. Change how the bow reacts after the shot. Any side rod adjustment is ultimately affecting one or both of those variables. 🏹 Shop RamRods stabilizers, V-Bars & accessories: https://ramrodsarchery.com 🌐 Learn more about Archery Stabilizer set up https://ramrods.com/pages/ramrods-learning What V-Bar or side rod angle do you use on your bow? Choosing your Extension Length | Archery Stabilizer Guide
2026/09/21
What length stabilizer extension should you use on your recurve bow? Your extension moves the V-Bar and side rods forward or backward, changing the bow's center of gravity—and that can have a noticeable effect on how your bow aims and reacts after the shot. In this video, we break down what a stabilizer extension actually does, how extension length affects your bow, and how to choose a good starting point for your setup. Chapters 00:00 What Does a Stabilizer Extension Do? 00:26 Effects of a Long Extension 01:06 Effects of a Short Sxtension 01:31 Finding the Right Balance 01:35 How Extension Length Affects Your Side Rods 02:05 Our Recommendation for Most Archers 02:20 Best Choice for Experimenting 02:48 Fine-Tuning Your Complete Setup 🏹 Shop RamRods stabilizers and accessories: https://ramrodsarchery.com 🌐 Learn more about Archery Stabilizer set up https://ramrods.com/pages/ramrods-learning If you're building your first recurve stabilizer setup, let us know what questions you have in the comments! Why Do Bows Have Those Long Rods? | Archery Stabilizers Explained
2026/09/15
If you're new to archery, you may have wondered: what are those long rods sticking out of competition bows—and what do they actually do? They're called stabilizers, and they play an important role in how a bow aims, feels, and reacts during and after the shot. In this beginner-friendly guide, we break down what archery stabilizers are, how they work, and why different archers use different stabilizer setups. You'll learn: What a bow stabilizer is Why stabilizers have weights on the ends How stabilizers help a bow aim more steadily How they reduce vibration after the shot How stabilizers affect bow balance and movement Why longer stabilizers can provide more stability What front rods, side rods, V-Bars, and offset mounts do Why recurve and compound archers use different stabilizer setups Stabilizers can look complicated when you're first getting into archery, but the basic idea is simple: they help make the bow more stable, more predictable, and easier for the archer to control. Chapters 00:00 What Are Those Rods on a Bow? 00:45 What Is an Archery Stabilizer? 01:03 Stabilizer Parts & Different Designs 01:43 What Do Stabilizers Actually Do? 01:59 How Stabilizers Help You Aim 02:35 How Stabilizers Reduce Vibration 04:00 Bow Balance & Shot Reaction 05:07 Recurve vs Compound Stabilizer Setups 05:32 Putting It All Together 🏹 Shop RamRods stabilizers and accessories: https://ramrodsarchery.com 🌐 Learn more about Archery Stabilizer set up https://ramrods.com/pages/ramrods-learning If you're new to archery and have a question about stabilizers, bow setup, or any other piece of equipment, leave it in the comments. Archery Guide: Quick Disconnect VS. Screw-In Stabilizer Mounts
2026/08/25
QDC vs Screw-In Stabilizer Mounts: Which Should You Choose? When choosing an adjustable V-Bar or offset mount, you'll typically have two mounting options: a traditional screw-in connection or a quick disconnect (QDC) system. But which one is actually better? In this video, we compare both mounting styles, explain the advantages and tradeoffs of each, and help you decide which option best fits your shooting style and how often you assemble your bow. Whether you're a tournament archer who travels frequently or someone who leaves their bow assembled most of the time, this guide will help you choose the right setup. Archery Guide: Using a Down Angle Quick Disconnect
2026/08/04
Not sure whether a straight Quick Disconnect or a down angle  Quick Disconnect is right for your bow? In this video, we explain the differences, the advantages of each design, and how changing the angle of your front stabilizer can affect your bow's balance and feel. We'll cover: What a straight (0°) Quick Disconnect does What a down angle Quick Disconnect does How lowering your stabilizer changes the bow's center of gravity Why some archers prefer a more stable or torque-resistant feel How different setups can affect sight picture, bow roll, and aiming How to decide which option is best for your shooting style There isn't a single "correct" answer—the best choice depends on your bow, stabilizer setup, and personal preferences. When a 10 Isn’t Enough: Inside Archery’s 11-Point Experiment
2026/04/22
What happens when a perfect score… isn’t perfect anymore? In this video, we break down the experimental 11-point scoring system tested at the 2025 World Cup in Antalya — where hitting the X-ring earned 11 points instead of 10. The goal? Create more separation, reduce ties, and make compound archery more exciting for both athletes and spectators. But did it actually work? We dive into real match analysis with insights from top archer Meeri and discuss:  Why the 11-ring was introduced  How it changed strategy and pressure for athletes  Whether it made matches more exciting (or just more confusing)  The impact on scoring, momentum swings, and comebacks  Why even a “perfect” score might not be enough anymore This format sparked mixed reactions — from excitement about more dynamic competition to frustration over confusing scoring and mental adjustments.  Is this the future of archery, or just an interesting experiment? Target Compound Equipment Deep Dive: Lessons from a Paralympic Champion
2026/01/14
Most conversations about target compound equipment revolve around specs — bar lengths, stiffness, total mass weight, and numbers. This conversation is about what actually matters when you’re shooting. 2024 Paralympic Champion Jason Tabansky joins Joe and Maddie from RamRods Archery to cover:     How weight distribution affects execution and hold      Front vs back weight tradeoffs on a compound setup      How different bows require different stabilizer set ups      Why balance on paper doesn’t always translate to stability in practice      How experienced archers evaluate equipment changes over time      Why blindly copying other setups rarely works Jason is an experienced, high-level target compound archer who shoots from a wheelchair, offering a perspective shaped by the need for repeatability, and long-term consistency. This is not a “best setup” talk. It’s a practical, experience-based discussion about decision-making, not trends.
