How Chronic Stress Affects Your Body: Pain, Hormones, Cravings & Weight
2026/10/02
Send us Fan Mail How does chronic stress affect your body? Fear and long-term stress can influence how you experience pain, hunger, cravings, fight-or-flight, and physical symptoms—and can make a real health obstacle feel impossible to overcome. In this Christian health episode, Matthew explains why fear can become the interpreter of what is happening inside your body. Your knee hurts, and fear says: “My body is broken.” You receive a diagnosis, and fear says: “I’ll never get healthy.” You struggled before, and fear says: “I always fail.” You feel a symptom, and fear says: “Something terrible is happening.” But is that actually true? Using the story of the twelve spies in Numbers 13, Matthew explains why Joshua and Caleb could look at the same obstacle as everyone else and come to a completely different conclusion. The obstacle was real. But fear did not get to interpret what it meant. In this episode, you’ll learn: ✅ How chronic stress and fear affect the nervous system ✅ Why fear can magnify pain and physical symptoms ✅ Why pain is an alarm—but does not always identify where the real problem began ✅ How trauma and hypervigilance can keep your body expecting danger ✅ The connection between stress, fight-or-flight, and chronic pain ✅ How belief and expectation can influence physical performance ✅ Why expectation can influence hunger and satiety signals ✅ How fear around PCOS, insulin resistance, and hormonal dysfunction can become part of the problem ✅ Why a diagnosis does not get to become your identity ✅ What Romans 12 actually means by renewing your mind ✅ How to take thoughts captive until they obey Christ ✅ How Philippians 4:8 gives you a filter for fear-driven thoughts ✅ What it means to have the mind of Christ ✅ How to stop looking at your body through fear, trauma, and past failure ✅ How to take wise action without allowing symptoms to become your lord This is NOT positive thinking. This is NOT pretending pain or a diagnosis is not real. And this is not manifestation. It is learning to ask: “What is actually true?” “Does this thought obey Christ?” “Father, how do You see this?” Then we take the next wise step. Maybe the knee needs strengthening. Maybe you need to change how you move. Maybe your body needs more nourishment. Maybe you need rest. Maybe there is trauma, fear, or unforgiveness that needs to be brought into the light. Maybe you need someone qualified to help you understand what is actually happening. Some things really are giants. But the giant can be real without YOU being a grasshopper. Temple Keepers helps Christians identify what is actually keeping them stuck physically, behaviorally, emotionally, and spiritually and rebuild sustainable health across nutrition, movement, rest, and peace—with Christ as the foundation underneath all four. 🏛️ TEMPLE KEEPER ACADEMY Biblical health education, weekly live coaching, community, accountability, practical resources, and workouts already programmed inside our app. https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 PERSONALIZED 1:1 COACHING A plan built around your actual body, history, health, schedule, responsibilities, habits, stress patterns, and real life—with personalized nutrition and movement, Weekly Stewardship Check-Ins, adjustments, and access to your coach six days a week. https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 📘 FREE TEMPLE KEEPER GUIDE https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 📸 MATTHEW — @GODFOODGUY https://www.instagram.com/godfoodguy/ 🌿 LEAH https://www.instagram.com/leah.headden/ ▶️ TEMPLE KEEPERS YOUTUBE https://www.youtube.com/@thetemplekeepers 🌐 TEMPLE KEEPERS https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
The Holiest Place on Earth Is Your Body - Becoming a Temple Keeper
2026/09/25
Send us Fan Mail What is the holiest place on earth? Matthew and Leah argue that it is much closer than most Christians realize: your body the place God chose to dwell. In this foundational Temple Keepers episode, they explain why caring for your health is not vanity, punishment, or another worldly fitness pursuit. It is stewardship. They walk through the four pillars of becoming a Temple Keeper: Nutrition. Movement. Rest. Peace. With Christ as the foundation underneath all four. You’ll learn how to simplify God Food, build movement into real life, use the Floor and the Full instead of all-or-nothing thinking, prioritize sleep and Sabbath, and address the fear, control, stress, and unrest underneath many health struggles. You do not need to change everything tomorrow. Take one faithful step. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
How to Stop People Pleasing as a Christian | Why You Keep Putting Yourself Last
2026/09/25
Send us Fan Mail Are you serving everyone around you while quietly running yourself into the ground? Matthew and Leah talk about Christian people pleasing, boundaries, self-neglect, and why constantly putting yourself last is not the same thing as faithfulness. They unpack why Jesus withdrew, rested, prayed, ate, and allowed people to be disappointed — and why Christians are not called to keep everyone happy at the expense of their own health. You’ll also learn the difference between being a peacemaker and a peacekeeper, how fear of rejection or conflict can drive people pleasing, and why some of us have trained our families and communities to expect constant access. The question is not simply: “Why can’t I say no?” It may be: “Why does their disappointment feel dangerous?” Love your neighbor as yourself. Not instead of yourself. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
Why Your Labs Look Normal But You Still Feel Terrible
2026/09/25
Send us Fan Mail Your bloodwork is “normal.” So why are you still exhausted, hungry, gaining belly fat, bloated, foggy, or struggling with your hormones? Matthew sits down with Temple Keepers coach Sarah Fox, a nurse with more than 20 years of experience, to talk about why isolated lab values often do not tell the whole story. They discuss fasting insulin, A1C, insulin resistance, visceral fat, liver health, menopause, muscle loss, protein needs, gut health, fiber, cortisol, stress, and why strength training and daily movement matter so much as we age. The goal is not to chase one number. It is to understand the whole person and identify what may actually be keeping the body from functioning well. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 📸 Matthew — @GodFoodGuy https://www.instagram.com/godfoodguy/ 🌿 Leah https://www.instagram.com/leah.headden/ ▶️ Temple Keepers YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@thetemplekeepers 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
How Much Protein Do You Need to Lose Fat? A Simple Formula
2026/09/21
Send us Fan Mail How much protein do you actually need to lose fat? Most people think they eat plenty—until they look at breakfast, lunch, and dinner separately. Matthew gives you a simple formula for setting your daily protein target based on your target body weight, explains how to divide it across your meals, and shows you what 35–50 grams of protein actually looks like. You’ll also learn why breakfast is usually the first meal to fix, why peanut butter and cheese are not primary protein sources, how to meal prep protein without cooking seven different recipes, and how to monitor your protein for one week without returning to obsessive calorie tracking. The goal is simple: Calculate your target. Divide it across your meals. Fix breakfast first. Build gradually. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 📸 Matthew — @GodFoodGuy https://www.instagram.com/godfoodguy/ 🌿 Leah https://www.instagram.com/leah.headden/ 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
Why You Keep Self-Sabotaging | The Hidden Question Controlling Your Decisions
2026/09/19
Send us Fan Mail Why do you keep doing the opposite of what you genuinely intended to do? You set the alarm, plan the meals, schedule the workout, and promise yourself this time will be different—then real life happens and the plan disappears. Matthew explains how the hidden questions we carry from childhood can quietly influence our health, relationships, work, boundaries, food, exercise, and ability to stay consistent. Am I safe? Am I loved? Am I wanted? Am I good enough? Am I successful? Do I have a purpose? When one of those questions was answered with a “no,” we can spend years chasing a yes or desperately avoiding another no—without even realizing it. This episode will help you recognize the pattern, understand why motivation alone has never fixed it, and begin moving from fight, flight, and freeze toward truth, peace, and faithful action. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
Why You Keep Eating When You’re Not Hungry | Christian Emotional Eating
2026/09/11
Send us Fan Mail Why do you keep eating when you are not physically hungry—even when you already know exactly what to do? For many people, emotional eating is not really a food problem. Food has become comfort, protection, reward, relief, or an answer to a deeper question: Am I safe? Am I loved? Am I enough? Do I matter? Matthew explains why another diet cannot heal the wound underneath emotional eating and walks you through the exact three-step process Temple Keepers uses: 1. Name the real need. 2. Bring the need to the real Source. 3. Take the next faithful step. You’ll learn what to do when you find yourself standing in the pantry at night, how to respond after you have already started eating, what to do when you are truly hungry, and why prayer, Scripture, journaling, walking, preparation, environment, and community matter. Food can fill your stomach. It cannot fill your heart. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 📸 Matthew — @GodFoodGuy https://www.instagram.com/godfoodguy/ 🌿 Leah https://www.instagram.com/leah.headden/ ▶️ Temple Keepers YouTube https://www.youtube.com/@thetemplekeepers 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show
10 More Weight Loss Mistakes Sabotaging Your Fat Loss
2026/09/09
Send us Fan Mail Eating healthy but still not losing weight? You may not need another diet. You may be repeating a habit, belief, or blind spot that is quietly sabotaging your fat loss. Matthew breaks down 10 more common weight-loss mistakes, including eliminating carbohydrates, overlooking hidden restaurant calories, relying on supplements, drowning in health information, expecting results too quickly, drinking alcohol regularly, falling into all-or-nothing thinking, and praying for better health without taking the next obedient step. Each mistake comes with one simple correction you can begin practicing today. Do not try to fix all ten. Choose the one that made you say, “Oh snap. Why You Can’t Sleep, Lose Weight, or Stop Craving Sugar | Chronic Stress
2026/09/04
Send us Fan Mail Peace is not a situation you finally get under control. If your sleep is broken, your digestion is struggling, your cravings are rising, and your body constantly feels like something is chasing you, chronic stress may be affecting far more than your mood. Matthew explains how fight or flight affects the nervous system, gut-brain connection, sleep, hormones, energy, emotional eating, and weight. He also unpacks the seven primal questions—Am I safe? Am I loved? Am I wanted? Am I good enough?—and how those unanswered questions can train us to seek relief through food, control, scrolling, the scale, people-pleasing, and avoidance. You’ll learn why relief is not peace, what your triggers reveal, and how to retrain your body, mind, and habits to receive and practice the peace Christ has already given you. Peace gets trained before the storm. And the storm reveals what has been trained in us. 📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/ Support the show

Is Your Obedience To God Conditional?
2026/08/28

WHY YOUR DIET FAILS
2026/08/26
Send us Fan Mail If every hard day ends with you standing in the pantry, you probably don’t need another diet. You already know what to eat. The deeper question is: why do you keep eating when you’re not physically hungry? In this episode, Matthew breaks down the difference between hunger and hurting, why stress reveals where we run for comfort, and how food can quietly become a substitute for the peace, relief, and rest we were meant to receive from God. You’ll learn how to identify what is actually happening before you reach for food, change the environment feeding the habit, and begin retraining your response through prayer, God Food, movement, routines, accountability, and community. Because food makes a terrible savior. Stop Calling Bondage “Grace” | What Titus 2 Actually Teaches
2026/08/21
Send us Fan Mail Grace does not just forgive us—grace trains us. Matthew breaks down Titus 2, self-control, delayed obedience, the difference between condemnation and cheap grace, why our brains resist change, and why receiving accountability does not mean relying on God less. It Shouldn’t Be This Hard | Why You’re Still Stuck With Your Health
2026/08/14
Send us Fan Mail You’re eating clean. You’re trying to exercise. You’ve prayed about it. Maybe you’ve blamed your hormones, your schedule, your metabolism, your cravings, or the fact that life is just too busy. And you keep thinking: “It shouldn’t be this hard.” But what if the struggle itself is telling you where to look? In this episode, Matthew walks through some of the most common things Christians say when they feel stuck with their health: “I can’t lose weight.”  “I’m eating clean.”  “I have no energy.”  “It’s my hormones.”  “I don’t have time.”  “I can’t stop eating junk food.”  “I can’t sleep.”  “I can’t afford to eat healthy.” Instead of stopping at the complaint, we look underneath it. Because the complaint is often the fruit—not the root. You may not need another diet, supplement, workout plan, or burst of motivation. You may need enough honesty and awareness to see what your body, habits, environment, schedule, and heart have actually been practicing. This isn’t shame. It’s information. And information gives us something we can steward. Temple Keepers helps Christians identify what is actually keeping them stuck and rebuild sustainable habits across nutrition, movement, rest, and peace—one faithful step at a time.  📘 Free Temple Keeper Guide https://thetemplekeepers.com/guide 🏛️ Temple Keeper Academy https://thetemplekeepers.com/online-academy 🤝 Apply for Personalized 1:1 Coaching https://thetemplekeepers.com/one-on-one-coaching 📸 Instagram — Matthew https://www.instagram.com/godfoodguy/ 🌿 Instagram — Leah https://www.instagram.com/leah.headden/ ▶️ YouTube — Temple Keepers https://www.youtube.com/@thetemplekeepers 🌐 Temple Keepers https://thetemplekeepers.com/faith-based-weight-loss Support the show
