Why Your Cells Are Smarter Than the World's Best Engineers
2026/10/07
A small army of PhD scientists spent 17 years building a protein motor that limps 11 steps down a DNA strand. Your cells build billions of motors—perfectly, instantly, with no research budget. Coincidence, or design? Astronomer Hugh Ross and biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana unpack a Nature Nanotechnology study from Lund University, where a synthetic protein “walking machine” called Tumbleweed was engineered from scratch to move along DNA. They break down how it works—and why it makes a compelling case for a Creator. In this episode we discuss: How Tumbleweed was built, and why it needed a precisely timed chemical wash just to wobble 11 steps Why AI (AlphaFold) was needed to do what natural motors do flawlessly on their own Why this experiment weakens the “evolution cobbled it together” argument What it means to be made in God’s image, and why humans alone do science What this discovery means for the biblical case for a Creator The future of nanotech medicine __________________________ 📄 The paper discussed in this episode: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41565-026-02211-3 📖 The Cell’s Design: How Chemistry Reveals the Creator’s Artistry https://support.reasons.org/purchase/the-cells-design 📖 Creating Life in the Lab: How New Discoveries in Synthetic Biology Make a Case for the Creator https://support.reasons.org/purchase/creating-life-in-the-lab
The Strange Timing Behind Life’s Nitrogen Fixation
2026/09/30
For a billion years, life on Earth survived without the one process it can no longer live without. The moment that changed might be the clearest evidence yet that we’re not here by accident. In this episode, Hugh Ross and Fazale “Fuz” Rana explore a discovery published in Science Advances that raises a fascinating question: Was the emergence of biological nitrogen fixation simply the result of natural processes, or does its timing point to something more? In this episode we discuss: The dramatic rise in the abundance and diversity of life The transition from prokaryotes to complex eukaryotic life The “hard steps” that had to occur for humanity to appear eventually Why nitrogen fixation represents such an extraordinary biological challenge for evolution Skeptical objections and alternative explanations What Psalm 104 reveals about God’s purposes in creation How Earth’s history reveals not only God’s power but also his profound care and love for humanity __________________________ 📄 The Science Advances paper discussed in this episode: https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.aec4450   🌐 Nitrogen Fixation Processes https://reasons.org/creation/earth/nitrogen-fixation-processes Get Hugh & Fuz’s book Origins of Life HERE: https://support.reasons.org/purchase/origins-of-life
The Science of Pride and Humility: Biblical Wisdom for a Broken World
2026/09/16
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and physician Steve Willing as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. Why do people fight so much? In a world fractured by political polarization, misinformation, and tribal conflict, this question demands answers. Scripture identifies pride as “the first sin” and the root of human moral failure. Contemporary research now provides extensive empirical validation for this biblical insight, demonstrating how pride operates as both a moral failing and cognitive distortion—and how Christians are uniquely positioned to address the divisions plaguing contemporary society. Drawing on over 140 peer-reviewed studies from psychology, neuroscience, and social science, this presentation explores how research confirms biblical warnings about pride across multiple domains. Studies consistently show that humans systematically overestimate their abilities, inflate their moral qualities, and maintain illusions of control—thereby directly validating Proverbs 21:2: “Every way of a man is right in his own eyes.” This science-faith synergy offers Christians a framework for serving a broken world. By recognizing the distinctive hallmarks of pride, believers can model humility in apologetics, discipleship, and public witness—reflecting Christ’s light through both rigorous truth-seeking and humble acknowledgment of our own personal limitations. Junk DNA Myth Ends | A Better Biosignature
2026/09/09
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and astrophysicist Hugh Ross as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. Junk DNA has long posed a strong challenge to the design argument. Why would a Creator fill genomes with seemingly useless sequences—especially when these sequences appear in the same locations across related organisms? For many, the clearest answer has been evolution, but that conclusion is weakening. Evidence continues to show that so-called junk DNA performs important functions, including a new study by Chinese researchers revealing a role for Alu sequences in organizing gene expression. Biosignatures are physical or chemical evidence of life, whether from living organisms or their remains. Although markers like phosphine and disulfides were once considered indicators, they have proven inconclusive. Because life chemistry is complex and biological synthesis is governed by metabolism and functional demand—rather than by thermodynamics and reaction kinetics—researchers have identified a more reliable biosignature. This includes a distinctly higher number of amino and fatty acid species, plus a more uniform relative abundance of these acids. This biosignature also stands as proof that life did not evolve naturally.   In this episode, biochemist Fuz Rana explores both studies and their implications for the case for a Creator. What Every Christian Needs to Know About AI
2026/09/02
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Ryan Pauly, founder and president of Think Well, as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. Artificial intelligence is transforming every area of human life. Whether we use it to help or harm, its very existence is shaping us physically, intellectually, spiritually, and relationally. Rather than avoiding technological advances or embracing them uncritically, Christians are called to approach them with biblical wisdom and faithful stewardship. That begins with stewarding the way we think and speak about AI, then applying biblical truth to develop a theology of technology. The central question is discerning how to engage AI in ways that honor God, reflect biblical truth, and promote genuine human flourishing.
The Medical Ethics Case Against Gender-Affirming Care
2026/08/26
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana as he moderates a discussion with philosopher-ethicist George Haraksin and OB/GYN Christina Cirucci on scientific discoveries and their theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. Gender-affirming care (GAC) has emerged as the primary model of treatment for adolescents and children with gender dysphoria. In GAC, the healthcare professional affirms the patient’s desired gender with minimal to no evaluation. Sometimes medical intervention is provided to a minor after just one visit. Dr. Cirucci published a paper on the ethics of this care model observing it through the lens of the basic principles of medical ethics: beneficence, nonmaleficence, and autonomy. As part of autonomy, the paper delves into the topic of informed consent. The conclusion is that gender-affirming care violated the ethical principles of beneficence, nonmaleficence, and autonomy. God’s Providence and the Effects of Radiation on the Human Body
2026/08/19
Join astrophysicist Hugh Ross and physicist Hugh Henry as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. The 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry overturned conventional wisdom that all radiation is harmful. In fact, radiation is often beneficial for our health—especially the cosmic radiation we receive every day. The existence and effects of cosmic rays remind us that God, in his providence, governs even the unseen forces of creation, using them in ways that contribute to the preservation and flourishing of life on Earth.
Hypernaturalism and Divine Action
2026/08/12
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and physicist Hugh Henry as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. In this episode, Fuz and Hugh discuss hypernaturalism, an intriguing concept that suggests God employs natural law from outside the visible universe to orchestrate creation and cause miracles, such as the parting of the Red Sea. They define hypernaturalism, explain how it differs from supernatural miracles (such as the virgin birth), and show how it helps unite nature and Scripture to point to the all-powerful Creator.  LINKS AND RESOURCES:  Hypernaturalism: Integrating the Bible and Science   Hypernaturalism and the Origin of Life
Total Solar Eclipses: God’s Gift to Humanity
2026/08/05
Join astrophysicist Hugh Ross and astronomer David Block as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. Astrophysicist Hugh Ross interviews astronomer David Block, director of Reasons to Believe Africa, about eclipses and the upcoming total solar eclipse in Egypt. Hugh and David discuss why we are living at the one time in Earth’s history where we can learn the most about the physics of the universe by observing total solar eclipses. This is possible because total solar eclipses can last from just 1 second to as long as 7 minutes, 28 seconds. These remarkable conditions underscore a broader biblical theme: God's timing for creating Adam and Eve was the best possible for humanity. New Data Converges on Creation | Another Habitability Constraint
2026/06/24
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and astrophysicist Hugh Ross as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. According to the evolutionary paradigm, there have been eleven times in Earth’s history when animals transitioned from water to land. Recent work by researchers in the UK and Spain indicates that these transitions involved similar genomic changes, providing another remarkable example of convergence. In this episode, Fuz describes this work and its implications for the RTB creation model. Astronomers have identified many different “habitable zones” in space—places where conditions might allow life to exist. Now, they’ve found a new one: a chemical habitable zone. For life to exist, both nitrogen and phosphorus must be present in just-right amounts and forms. The availability of these elements depends on how much oxygen is involved during a rocky planet’s core formation. Earth falls within this zone. If a rocky planet is formed with less oxygen, it will lack the needed phosphorus for life. If it forms with too much oxygen, it will lack the needed nitrogen. Either way, life as we know it wouldn’t survive. A Scientific Review on Treatment of Pediatric Gender Dysphoria
2026/06/17
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and OB/GYN Christina Cirucci as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. In 2025, the US Department of Health and Human Services published a comprehensive, peer-reviewed, 400-page review titled “Treatment for Pediatric Gender Dysphoria: Review of Evidence and Best Practices.” They used rigorous evidence-based medicine methodology and reached the following conclusions: Quality of evidence: The overall quality of evidence concerning the effects of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries on psychological outcomes, quality of life, or long-term health in minors is very low. Therapeutic benefits: Evidence does not support the effectiveness of these interventions in children and adolescents. Treatment harms: There are known and plausible harms to these treatments—infertility, sexual dysfunction, loss of bone density, adverse cognitive effects, CV disease and metabolic disorders, psych disorders, surgical complications, and regret. Risk-benefit analysis: The evidence demonstrates an unfavorable risk-benefit profile for medical and surgical interventions in children and adolescents with gender dysphoria. These findings are consistent with a biblical ethic that sees biological sex as God's created design and seeks compassionate psychological treatment of gender dysphoria. Scientific Apologetics: How it Supports Evangelism
2026/06/10
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and Balajied Nongrum, lead consultant for research and apologetics for Reasons to Believe Asia-Pacific (RTB APAC), as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. A popular narrative in today’s culture claims that Christian apologetics and science do not go hand in hand. Critics often argue that apologists are more interested in making arguments than in engaging seriously with science, using it merely as a means to advance their agenda. As a result, any inference pointing to God—and especially to Jesus—is often dismissed as overreach rather than a reasonable conclusion. But is that really the case?
Neanderthal Brains Shaped Like Ours? | More Moon Formation Designs
2026/06/03
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and astrophysicist Hugh Ross as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. A new study from a US–China research team argues that the volumes of Neanderthal brain regions fall within the range seen in modern human populations. If so, does that mean Neanderthals were just as cognitively capable as modern humans—and would that challenge RTB’s human origins model? In this episode, Fuz Rana explains what the researchers measured, what their conclusions do and do not show, and why RTB’s model remains scientifically robust. New evidence suggests that Theia, the planet believed to have collided with Earth to form the Moon, may still exist deep inside our planet, near the boundary between Earth’s mantle and core. According to a new model, Theia’s metallic core may have sunk through Earth’s mantle and merged with Earth’s core, while denser mantle fragments settled deep inside Earth. These buried fragments may explain unusual structures detected there, as well as a thin, chemically distinct layer at the top of Earth’s core. The model also helps explain why Earth and the Moon have such similar compositions and how Earth maintained the long-lasting magnetic field essential for life.  LINKS AND RESOURCES:  Neanderthal Brain and Cognition Reconsidered   Reconstructing the Neanderthal Brain Using Computational Anatomy   Secular Changes in Cranial Morphology and Pattern of Sexual Dimorphism in Modern Japanese: A Geometric Morphometric Analysis Using Post-Mortem Computed Tomography Data   Survival of Asteroid-Sized Debris from the Moon-Forming Impactor in Earth’s Deep Mantle with Implications for Its Solar System Provenance   Immediate Formation of Core-Mantle Boundary Heterogeneities Following a Giant Impact   Designed to the Core
Is AI Merely Artificial Imitation?
2026/05/27
Join biochemist Fazale “Fuz” Rana and electrical engineer and computer scientist Zachary Leung as they discuss discoveries with theological and philosophical implications that point to the reality of God’s existence. Most artificial intelligence (AI) systems today are based on neural networks that have existed for decades in other academic disciplines before being imported into AI. Neural networks are traditionally conceived of as mathematical optimization, pattern recognition, and associative memory. We don’t need to think of today’s AI as genuinely “intelligent.” Much of the confusion surrounding AI today can be resolved if we think of it instead as artificial imitation—imitation of human behavior.
