Episode 185: The Legend That Starves - The Wendigo
2026/10/20
What if the most terrifying monster isn’t something lurking in the woods but something you could become? The Wendigo or Wendigo is a cryptid who’s lore began with the Algonquian speaking Indigenous peoples, associated with insatiable hunger, greed, and the terrifying fear of losing your humanity. Unlike the antlered monsters we see in modern media today, traditional Wendigo folklore often focuses more on a hunger that can never be satisfied, and a transformation that turns a human away from its own humanity.  But this legend goes beyond folklore. There are stories of people who have murdered their own families, claiming to be possessed by the spirit of the Wendigo. Others have committed murder on someone they believed was in the process of transforming into one.  But were these cases examples of supernatural beliefs, desperate attempts to explain horrific violence, or something else entirely? From chilling historical accounts to the modern horror media, the Wendigo origins have changed and adapted over time. But the scariest question isn’t what’s hiding in the wilderness: it’s what happens when the monster is human.   Sources: “The Mythology and Misrepresentation of the Windigo” by Elizabeth McCauley on Back Story on November 23, 2016 (https://backstoryradio.org/blog/the-mythology-and-misrepresentation-of-the-windigo/) ”Beyond The Myths: Tracing The Real Origins of The Wendigo” by David J.O. on Medium on January 18, 2024 (https://medium.com/@jerom2210/beyond-the-myths-tracing-the-real-origins-of-the-wendigo-16842e0bc08b) “Gods and Monsters: The Wendigo” by Eve Volungeviciute on HCE Magazine (https://hcemagazine.com/gods-and-monsters-the-wendigo/) “The Wendigo Legend: Real Stories, Native Folklore, and Hauntings” on American Ghost Walks on July 11, 2025 (https://americanghostwalks.com/the-wendigo-legend-real-stories-native-folklore-and-hauntings) “Windigo” by Steve Pitt on The Canadian Encyclopedia on September 9, 2012 (https://thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/windigo) “More Than Monsters: The Deeper Significance of Wendigo Stories” by Kaitlin Smith on Facing History and Ourselves on November 30, 2021(https://www.facinghistory.org/ideas-week/more-monsters-deeper-significance-wendigo-stories) “What Is The Wendigo? Episode 184: The Haunting of the Sallie House
2026/10/13
In a small town along the Missouri River, in Atchison, Kansas, you’ll find quiet streets, historic homes, and a history that stretches back to the days of the American frontier. But tucked away on one of those streets is a house that has become one of the most talked about haunted locations in the country. It’s known as the Sallie House. And the stories surrounding this little Victorian home are enough to make you think twice about spending the night there. The legend begins with a little girl named Sallie, who, according to the story, died inside the home during a medical procedure in the early 1900s. Some believe her spirit never left. But here’s the thing: there’s no solid historical evidence confirming that Sallie ever lived or died there. Over the years, former residents have described unexplained noises, objects moving on their own, and encounters that they say went far beyond the occasional creak in an old house. Some believe the spirit of a little girl is still there. Others think something much darker could be at play. But not everyone buys into the haunting. Some skeptics believe the entire legend was fabricated, and that the stories surrounding the house are nothing more than folklore that grew over time. Because when you start looking into the history of the Sallie House, you’re left with a question that’s difficult to ignore: are these people experiencing something they truly can’t explain, or is there a much more ordinary explanation hiding beneath the legend?
Episode 183: Haunted Behind Bars - Old Charleston City Jail
2026/10/06
Charleston, South Carolina is city known for its beauty, history, and centuries-old buildings that fill the streets. But beneath that beautiful history is a much darker past. For more than a century, the Old Charleston City Jail was a place of incarceration. Thousands of people were housed in its walls — criminals, enslaved people awaiting sale, prisoners of war, and others. Disease. Violence. Overcrowding. Executions and death were all extremely common among the inmates. The building eventually closed its doors in 1939. But the stories didn't stop. They only spread further. Today, the old jail is associated with reports of a multitude of unexplained footsteps, voices, moving objects and more. And then there are the stories surrounding some of the jail's most notorious prisoners.  But here's the problem: Some of these details of the history have been embellished, becoming folklore. Separating the documented history from the legend isn't exactly simple. What really happened inside those walls? What experiences are real? Where does fact end, and the haunting begin?     “The Haunted Old Charleston Jail” on Haunted Rooms Co. Episode 182: Haunting in Indiana - Willows Weep
2026/09/29
Cayuga, Indiana, a small Midwestern community surrounded by open fields, quiet roads, and farmland stretching toward the horizon. The kind of place where life moves a little slower. And that's part of what makes the story of Willows Weep so unsettling. Because this isn't some abandoned mansion hidden deep in the woods. For years, it was simply a house in an ordinary community. And yet, according to the stories surrounding it, there was nothing ordinary about what happened inside. Willows Weep has been described as having a distinctive cross-shaped design, with some paranormal accounts claiming that parts of the house form inverted crosses and even pentagram-like patterns. Then there are the stories the strange layout of the home, and objects supposedly discovered during renovations. But this is where things get complicated. The further you dig into Willows Weep, the harder it becomes to separate the history from the legend. There are claims that multiple people died inside the house, along with stories of mysterious deaths and tragedies involving former residents. And then there are the people who say they experienced something they simply couldn't explain. Doors opening and slamming on their own. Loud banging coming from beneath the floors and inside the walls. And some visitors even claimed they were touched or attacked by something they couldn't see. But there's another side to this story. There have also been accusations that some of the darker history surrounding Willows Weep was exaggerated, embellished, or even fabricated, stories shaped over time to fit the idea that this house was harboring something evil. And if that's true, it changes everything. Because maybe the question isn't whether Willows Weep was haunted. Maybe it's something much simpler...What if the story of Willows Weep wasn't even true?
Episode 181: The Silence After the Shot - Trent DiGiuro
2026/09/22
In the summer of 1994, Trent DiGiuro had every reason to believe his life was just beginning. He was 20 years old, a starting offensive lineman for the University of Kentucky football team, a good student, and the kind of friend everyone wanted. Just days before his 21st birthday, Trent’s friends threw him a small party at his off campus home. But around 2am, a gunshot echoed through the night. Trent was sitting on the porch…but he never got up. For five years, the case went nowhere. Then, someone finally came forward. A woman claimed her ex boyfriend had confessed to killing Trent while they had been dating.  What followed this information was a secret meeting at an airport, a wire recording, a search warrant—and a rifle found under this man’s bed. A jury eventually convicted him of Trent’s murder. But years later, that conviction was overturned. The story still wasn’t over. And while the legal story surrounding Trent’s murder became increasingly complicated, Trent’s family chose a very different way to keep his name alive. They turned their grief into a legacy.  What really happened on that porch in Lexington? And how did a murder that was cold for years eventually lead investigators to a man they believed had a reason to pull the trigger?   Sources: “College Football Player Killed in “Assassination” During 21st Birthday For Shockingly Petty Reason” by Jill Sederstrom on Oxygen True Crime on July 19, 2026 (https://www.oxygen.com/the-killer-among-us/crime-news/the-killer-among-us-shane-ragland-killed-trent-digiuro) “Police Still Trying to Unravel Murder Without a Motive” by Eric Gregory in The Lexington Herald-Leader on December 17, 1994 “Man convicted of killing UK player in ‘90s back in court in another new case” by Valarie Honeycutt Spears on Lexington Herald Leader on September 22, 2025 (https://www.kentucky.com/news/local/crime/article312199494.html) “Police Think Rifle Shot Killed UK Player” by Eric Gregory in The Lexington Herald-Leader on July 21, 1994 “'Dateline': Kentucky football player's killing was unsolved until a confession led to a suspect” by Emily Wickwire on NBC News on March 22, 2019 (https://www.nbcnews.com/dateline/dateline-kentucky-football-player-s-killing-was-unsolved-until-confession-n986336) “Police, Friends Seek Answers in Fatal Shooting” by Brian Bennett and John Clay in The Lexington Herald-Leader on July 19, 1994 “A shot in the dark that shocked the University of Kentucky community” by Aaron Burrell on WBAL TV on February 8, 2023 (https://www.wbaltv.com/article/hometown-tragedy-the-football-star-shooting/42803161) “Out of the Blue – A Life Filled with Promise, A Death Steeped in Mystery” by Eric Gregory in The Lexington Herald-Leader on December 17, 1994 “Notorious 1990s slaying of UK football player featured in new true crime series” by Killian Baarlaer, Louisville Courier Journal on Yahoo! Episode 180: Cold Case Solved - The Disappearance & Murder of Jennifer Odom
2026/09/15
In February of 1993, Dade City, Florida, was a very different place. Just west of town, the landscape was rural and quiet, orange groves, pastures, hay fields, wooded stretches of land, and homes sitting on large parcels. Jennifer Odom's family lived in that kind of setting, where the rhythms of everyday life revolved around school, family, friends, and the familiarity of a small community. There were no smartphones. No social media. No GPS tracking a child's location. And for Jennifer, walking the roughly 200 yards from her school-bus stop to her home was an ordinary part of her day. Until February 19th, 1993. Twelve-year-old Jennifer stepped off her school bus in the afternoon and started toward home. She never made it. What followed was a massive search through the rural landscape surrounding Dade City and neighboring Hernando County. Witnesses reported seeing a faded blue pickup truck following Jennifer. Six days later, her body was discovered in an abandoned orange grove. For more than three decades, Jennifer's family waited for answers. And the investigation refused to disappear. In this episode, we're going back to Dade City in 1993, to the community Jennifer knew, the final moments of her life, the evidence investigators spent decades pursuing, and the extraordinary forensic breakthrough that eventually put a name to the person responsible. This is the story of Jennifer Odom. And this story reminds us that evil is everywhere sometimes hiding in the most ordinary places, behind the familiar faces and quiet roads we believe we know.   Sources: Yahoo – For 12-year-old Jennifer Odom’s murder, jury says man should die – Dan Sullivan – August 25, 2026 - For 12-year-old Jennifer Odom’s murder, jury says man should die Fox 13 Tampa Bay – Jennifer Odom Case: Guilty verdict for Jeffrey Crum - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTUTGmyFYCM Find a Grave – Jennifer Renee Odom – Obituary - Jennifer Renee Odom (1980-1993) - Find a Grave Memorial Fox 13 Tampa Bay – Jennifer Odom’s killer caught 30 years after she was kidnapped, murdered walking home from school bus: HCSO – Aaron Mesmer, Briona Arradondo, Justin Matthews and Fox 13 News Staff – July 27, 2023 - Jennifer Odom’s killer caught 30 years after she was kidnapped, murdered walking home from school bus: HCSO | FOX 13 Tampa Bay Tampa Bay Times – 33 years later, jury to decide if man killed 12-year-old Jennifer Odom – Dan Sullivan – August 18, 2026 - 33 years later, jury to decide if man killed 12-year-old Jennifer Odom Unsolved Mysteries Wiki – Jennifer Odom - Jennifer Odom | Unsolved Mysteries Wiki | Fandom Unsolved Mysteries – Jennifer Odom - Jennifer Odom - Unsolved Mysteries Pasco Times – Detectives hope discovery will help crack Odom Case – January 7, 1995 Tampa Bay Times – Missing girl’s body found – Wes Platt – February 26, 1993 Tampa Bay Times – Community ‘family’ takes it very hard – Larry Dougherty, Sally Hicks, Nancy Neil – February 26, 1993 Tampa Bay Times – Any lead, near or far, could be Jennifer’s – Kit Troyer – December 18, 1993 The Tampa Tribune – Reward, memorial funds growing – Daniel Berger – March 7, 1993 Tampa Bay Times – Discovery made in Odom case – Kit Troyer – January 7, 1995 St. Petersburg Times – ‘I just want my Jenny home’ – Sally Hicks and Rick Gershman – February 25, 1993 Bay News 9 – Jeffrey Crum, Sr. found guilty in murder of 12-year-old Jennifer Odom – Any Cole – August 20, 2026 - https://baynews9.com/fl/tampa/news/2026/08/20/jeffrey-crum-guilty-jennifer-odom Tampa Bay Beacons – Jennifer Odom’s death haunted Tampa Bay. 33 years later, her killer is convicted – Dan Sullivan – August 21, 2026 -  https://tbt-beacon-media-prod.web.arc-cdn.net/2026/08/21/jennifer-odoms-death-haunted-tampa-bay-33-years-later-her-killer-is-convicted Hernando Sun - Justice for Jennifer: Jury Finds Crum Guilty in 1993 Cold Case Murder – Hanna Fox Maglio – August 20, 2026 - https://www.hernandosun.com/2026/08/20/justice-for-jennifer-jury-finds-crum-guilty-in-1993-cold-case-murder State Attorney’s Office – Jury Finds Jeffrey Crum Guilty in 1993 Kidnapping and Murder of 12-Year-Old Jennifer Odom - https://www.sao5.org/jury-finds-jeffrey-crum-guilty-in-1993-kidnapping-and-murder-of-12-year-old-jennifer-odom
Episode 179: The Case That Wouldn't Stay Cold: Ali Kemp
2026/09/09
In the summer of 2002, Leawood, Kansas, was the kind of place where nothing terrifying or terrible seemed to happen. Quiet neighborhoods. Families. Swimming pools. Kids spending their summers with friends. That all changed on June 18, 2002. Ali Kemp was 19 years old, a college student, athlete, daughter, sister, girlfriend. Ali was also the kind of person who seemed to be constantly involved in something. That June afternoon, Ali was at work, alone at the neighborhood swimming pool. She was excited for her date that evening but never made it home. When her younger brother came to relieve her at the pool, Ali was missing but her personal items remained. Her father, Roger, went to the pool to search himself but unfortunately made a discovery no parent should ever have to make. After he called 911, investigators came upon the brutal crime scene. There was DNA, witnesses, even a sketch released of a possible suspect. But the case seemed to be going nowhere. But Ali's father refused to let her become another cold case going as far as contacting television shows to get the word out. His efforts led to his idea of using billboards requesting information on his daughters case. Eventually, tips DID come in that led to the capture of Ali’s killer. Listen to the full episode to hear how Ali's killer was finally found and how her father's determination turned unimaginable grief into a mission that continues today.     Sources: “Police Search for Student’s Killer” by Staff Reports in The Manhattan Mercury on June 20, 2002 “Ali Kemp fought hard for her own life, now she fights for others” by Community News on North Missourian on April 4, 2018 (https://gallatinnorthmissourian.com/2018/04/04/81685/) “Metro Squad has no Leads” by Adam Hutton in the Olathe News on June 22, 2002 “Ali Kemp’s Dad Used an Unexpected Technique to Help Solve Her 2002 Murder” by Sara Kettler on A&E Crime Investigation on April 21, 2026 (https://www.aetv.com/articles/ali-kemp-2002-murder-roger-kemp) “Metro Squad Takes Over Leawood Case” by Gerald Hay in the Olathe News on June 20, 2002 “Suspect charged in 2002 slaying of K-State student” by Matt Sedensky on Lawrence-Journal World on November 10, 2004 (https://www2.ljworld.com/news/2004/nov/10/suspect_charged_in/) “Leawood Police take over Investigation” by Gerald Hay in the Olathe News on June 29, 2002 “Ali Kemp’s father, Leawood Renew Reward” by Staff Reports in The Manhattan Mercury on December 20, 2002 “Suspect Held in Kemp Murder” by Livi Regenbaum in The Manhattan Mercury on February 11, 2003 “Man convicted of killing Leawood teen wants out of prison” by Matt Flener on KMBC News on August 23, 2019 (https://www.kmbc.com/article/man-convicted-of-killing-leawood-teen-wants-out-of-prison/28802530) “More Clues Emerging in Death of College Student” by Associated Press in The Manhattan Mercury on April 15, 2003 “Judge denies request by Ali Kemp’s killer to have his Hard 50 sentence thrown out” by Karra Small on Fox 4 KC on October 24, 2019 (https://fox4kc.com/news/judge-denies-request-by-ali-kemps-killer-to-have-his-hard-50-sentence-thrown-out/) “Local Authorities to Bring Back Suspect” in the Olathe News on February 13, 2003 “Kansas Dad Helps Catch His Daughter’s Murderer Using Billboards” by Erik Hawkins on Oxygen True Crime on February 13, 2020 (https://www.oxygen.com/in-ice-cold-blood/crime-news/ali-kemp-murder-ben-appleby-pool-billboards) “Man Cleared of Role in Kemp Death” by Livi Regenbaum in The Manhattan Mercury on February 14, 2003 “Roger Kemp, who became anti-crime advocate following daughter Ali Kemp’s murder in Leawood, dies at 77” by Nikki Lansford on the Johnson County Post on March 4, 2022 (https://johnsoncountypost.com/2022/03/04/roger-kemp-death-218388/) “I Will Find You” on Hometown Homicide, Season 1 Episode 6 on Discovery+ https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/10124232/alexandra_elizabeth-kemp https://medium.com/@coffeecrimeandcosmetics/heartbreak-and-hope-a-look-at-the-ali-kemp-story-a73d9c787c2b Tug Hill Estate Winery website - https://www.tughillestate.com/ TAKE DEFENSE website - https://takedefense.org/
Episode 178: The Disappearance of MH370
2026/09/01
On March 8, 2014, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 took off from Kuala Lumpur, bound for Beijing, with 239 people on board. It was supposed to be a routine overnight flight. But less than an hour after takeoff, something happened that would leave the world searching for answers for more than a decade. The plane disappeared from civilian radar. Its communication systems stopped responding. And then investigators discovered something even more confusing: Flight 370 hadn't simply vanished. Radar suggested the aircraft had turned around, and satellite data showed that it continued flying for hours after it disappeared from radar. Search crews from around the world would eventually spend years searching thousands of square miles of ocean. Pieces of the aircraft would wash up on beaches thousands of miles away. But the main wreckage and the answers hidden inside it have never been found. What happened to the 239 people aboard Flight 370? Was the plane deliberately diverted? Was someone in the cockpit responsible? Was it a hijacking? Or was something else entirely responsible for one of the most mysterious disappearances in modern aviation history? Over the years, the lack of answers has given rise to theories ranging from the plausible to the unbelievable. More than twelve years later, Flight 370 remains missing. Episode 177 - Dead Calm in Cape May - Kimberly Holton
2026/08/25
The quiet Victorian resort of Cape May, NJ was shattered when a body was discovered floating in the Atlantic Ocean, just a few miles from shore. The victim was 16-year-old Kimberly Holton, a teenager from Dover, Delaware. Despite having been submerged in water for a time, investigators managed to identify her. The autopsy revealed a number of concerning factors: multiple skull fractures but no water in her lungs. The most concerning, were the chains found wrapped her ankles. These chains led to a local hardware store where surveillance footage showed who had purchased it. But it was 2 men, unknown to detectives. One of them came into the police, to clear his name and identified who the other man in the video was. Jacob Jones, the pilot instructor boyfriend of Kimberly’s foster sister. After obtaining enough evidence to arrest Jacob, he committed suicide, but not before confessing to his father and revealing who his accomplice was. Why would this straight A, quiet college student commit such a heinous crime against the foster sister of his girlfriend?    Sources: “Before Disappearing, Teen had Accused Guardian of Abuse” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on October 15, 2003 “16-Year-Old Girl Murdered, Then Thrown Off Plane into the Ocean: "Nightmarish Scene"” by Jax Miller on Oxygen True Crime on June 22, 2024 (https://www.oxygen.com/deadly-waters-with-captain-lee/crime-news/body-of-kimberly-holton-found-off-cape-may-coast) “Two States Probing Death of Dover Girl” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on October 14, 2003 “My Boyfriend Killed My Sister: The Tragic Case of Kimberly Holton” by True Crime Lounge on Medium on August 4, 2024 (https://truecrimelounge.medium.com/my-boyfriend-killed-my-sister-the-tragic-case-of-kimberly-holton-8cfce9ab6efe) “Police say Shoppers may have Clues to Dover Teen’s Final Days” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on October 17, 2003 “Accused Killers Dump Body From USAF Aero-Club Aircraft” on Aero News Network on November 9, 2003 (https://www.aero-news.net/FullsizeImage.cfm?do=main.textpost&id=54dd2978-de51-4cfc-a669-9999d6518c70) “Dover man Charged in Slaying of Girl” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on October 29, 2003 “Kimberly Holton Was Murdered in 2003 — Her Friend Knew Something Was Wrong” by Jennifer Tisdale on June 21, 2024 (https://www.distractify.com/p/what-happened-to-kimberly-holton) “Tips Surface from Video in Teen Death” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on October 18, 2003 “Kimberly Holton Murder: Where is Michael Keyser Now?” by Viswa Vanapalli on TheCinemaholic on August 4, 2021 (https://thecinemaholic.com/kimberly-holton-murder-how-did-jacob-jones-die-where-is-michael-keyser-now/) “Man Accused in Girl’s Death Tries Suicide” by Robin Brown in The News Journal on October 30, 2003 “Teen’s Body Thrown Out of Plane” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on November 8, 2003 “A Young Life Taken” by Terri Sanginiti in The News Journal on November 9, 2003 https://www.oxygen.com/deadly-waters-with-captain-lee/season-1/episode-4/videos/kimberly-holtons-first-foster-mother https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/273518867/kimberly_lynn-holton https://www.oxygen.com/deadly-waters-with-captain-lee/season-1/videos/who-was-kimberly-holton “From the Deep” on Homicide Hunter: American Detective Season 1, Episode 4 on Discovery+ “A Killing off Cape May” on Bodies in the Water, Season 1, Episode 7 on Discovery+ ***Cellar 54 Website - https://cellar54wines.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqgQ1J6pQYC0svfz2TK_hHINr9vFTvETJ5F9rNRTKqOInvbSy9X
Episode 176: Skara Cannibal - Isakin Drabbad
2026/08/18
Skara, Sweden. A small, quiet city with more than a thousand years of history. It was founded, according to local tradition, nearly a thousand years ago. For centuries, Skara was known as a center of religion and education. It is home to one of Sweden's oldest schools, and its medieval cathedral still stands at the heart of the city. It's not the kind of place you would expect to become synonymous with one of the most disturbing crimes in Swedish history. But in November of 2010, behind the doors of an apartment, something horrific happened. And at the center of it was a man named Isakin Drabbad. But Isakin wasn't always Isakin Drabbad. He was born Jimmy Daniel Isaksson in 1978, and from a young age, his life was marked by instability. He spent much of his youth moving in and out of institutions and eventually accumulated convictions for crimes including theft and drug offenses. As he grew older, his struggles with substance abuse and serious mental health problems became increasingly significant. And then there was his fascination with the occult. He talked about demons. He talked about the devil. He talked about evil spirits and what he called “the other side.” Eventually, Isakin met a woman named Helle Christensen while the two were patients at a psychiatric clinic. They fell in love, moved to Skara together, and tried to build a life. But behind that attempt at a new beginning, their relationship was becoming increasingly volatile. Arguments became more frequent. And Helle's family began to worry about her safety. In November of 2010, Isakin committed a crime so horrific that it was almost impossible to comprehend. This is the story of Isakin Drabbad, the man known as the Skara Cannibal. It's the story of Helle Christensen. This story reminds us that evil can be anywhere, even behind the face of someone we believe loves us, even as they slowly descend into darkness.
Episode 175: Injected in Secret - The Plutonium Files - Part II
2026/08/11
What if I told you one of the nation’s most contentious human experiments was occurring while the world was condemning Nazi medical human experiments? During World War II, the U.S. government created a secret study to learn what plutonium did to the human body. Plutonium is the radioactive metal used in nuclear weapons. What may or may not cause shock, the subjects in this experiment were NOT volunteers. They were hospital patients, all with some form of critical ailment, one of which was only 4 years old. Without any physical evidence of informed consent, 18 patients were injected with plutonium as part of a classified Manhattan Project experiment. Researchers then monitored these patients for years—collecting samples regularly to track how the plutonium moved through their bodies. Some patients died within weeks. Others lived for decades and were monitored for the rest of their lives.  Years later, government investigations found no evidence that the patients had been told what they were being injected with. Family members wouldn’t find out about it until almost 50 years after. This will be a two part episode where we will examine the plutonium experiment, the patients behind the case numbers, and how one this horror remained hidden for decades. This isn't the story of a conspiracy theory but of a documented government experiment, the people caught in it, and the ethical red flags that still remain today.

Episode 173: Unsolved - The Mysterious Death of Kurt Sova
2026/07/28
It was supposed to be just another Halloween party. On October 23, 1981, seventeen-year-old Kurt Sova left his home in Newburgh Heights, Ohio, to spend the evening with friends. By all accounts, Kurt was a kind, gentle teenager who was close with his parents. He wasn't known for staying out all night, and if he was ever running late, he always made sure they knew where he was. But that night, Kurt never came home. For five days, his family searched desperately, following every lead they could find and hoping someone had seen him. Then, just half a mile from the Halloween party he'd attended, Kurt was found dead in a ravine. His body was lying face up in what witnesses described as a strange, "Christ-like" pose, yet there were no obvious signs of violence. Even more unsettling, the autopsy concluded that Kurt had only been dead for 24 to 36 hours even though he'd been missing for five days. The area where he was found had reportedly already been searched multiple times. So where was Kurt during those missing days? How did he die? And why did police suspect foul play while the coroner ultimately ruled his death was due to natural causes? More than four decades later, those questions remain unanswered. This is the unsolved case of Kurt Sova.    Sources: Unsolved Mysteries Fandom Wiki – Kurt Sova The Cleveland Press – October 29, 1981 – Teen found dead in water puddle The Plain Dealer – October 30, 1981 – Coroner’s say awaited on cause of boy’s death The Plain Dealer – October 31, 1981 – Sova, Kurt – Obituary The Plain Dealer – Teen-ager is found dead in Newburgh Heights – October 29, 1981 Village of Newburgh Heights – History: https://newburgh-oh.gov/history Encyclopedia of Cleveland History (Case Western Reserve University), "Newburgh Heights": https://case.edu/ech/articles/n/newburgh-heights Unsolved Mysteries, Season 1, Episode 51 (1988) Bill Sammon, "Wounds Still Fresh From Son's Death One Decade Ago," The Plain Dealer (1991). Episode 172: Stealing Crown Jewels - The Louvre Heist
2026/07/21
For 800 years, the Louvre has stood at the center of French history. Starting as a medieval fortress and a royal palace, it transformed into the world's most visited museum. But on the morning of October 19, 2025, that history was shattered. Four suspects in disguises broke into the Louvre and stole priceless pieces of French royal jewelry. Some of those jewels had survived revolutions, empires, and two world wars. Police quickly arrested several suspects, but the jewels themselves remain missing. And now, two of the accused have confessed, claiming they were recruited, but they refuse to give the police his identity, fearing for their families' safety. Who hired these men? Where are the missing jewels? And how did thieves pull off one of the most audacious museum robberies in less time than it takes to brew a pot of coffee? In this episode, we will take a dive into the history of the Louvre and the history of the pieces stolen. We’ll also go over how the heist unfolded and the investigation that's still trying to recover France's lost treasures.   Sources: “Everything we know about the Louvre jewelry heist” by Ian Aikman and Rachel Hagan on BBC on October 20, 2025 (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg7nrlkg0zxo) “How Louvre gang carried out France's most shocking theft” by the Visual Journalist Team on BBC News on October 20, 2025 (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-fde5876a-c35c-48a2-b4cf-d255bd25611b) “Historic jewels stolen in ‘national disaster’ for France: What we know about missing Louvre treasures” by Lex Harvey on CNN Style on October 20, 2025 (https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/20/style/louvre-heist-which-jewels-stolen-intl-hnk) “What to know about the 4 suspects in the Louvre crown jewels heist” by Sylvie Corbet on Eye Witness News ABC 7 on November 2, 2025 (https://abc7ny.com/post/louvre-heist-suspects-what-know-4-museum-crown-jewels/18105087/) “Art crime investigator breaks down the brazen jewel heist at the Louvre” by William Brangham and Jackson Hudgins on PBS News on October 31, 2025 (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/art-crime-investigator-breaks-down-the-brazen-jewel-heist-at-the-louvre) “An Inside Look at the History of the Louvre” by Peggy Carouthers on Art & Object on August 29, 2025 (https://www.artandobject.com/news/inside-look-history-louvre) “'We were meant to take as many jewels as we could': The confessions of two Louvre burglars” by Jérémie Pham-Lê and Lucie Soullier on Le Monde on July 12, 2026 (https://www.lemonde.fr/en/france/article/2026/07/12/we-were-meant-to-take-as-many-jewels-as-we-could-the-confessions-of-two-louvre-burglars_6755398_7.html?) “Suspects in Louvre Heist Say They Were Recruited by a ‘Mastermind’ Who Wasn’t Pleased With Their Efforts” by News Desk on Art Forum on July 14, 2026 (https://www.artforum.com/news/louvre-heist-mastermind-1234754493/) Louvre Website: https://www.louvre.fr/en/explore/collections The Barker Company: https://www.barkermartinis.com/
