Finding Weird Adventures with Tim Binnall
2026/10/04
On this week's show, back by popular demand, the one-and-only Tim Binnall joins AP to recount various adventures (and possible misadventures) from this past summer. Tim presented at two different conferences in two weeks- the Cryptids in the Mountains conference in Chester, VT, and at the Exeter UFO Festival in New Hampshire- and in conversation here he talks about the subjects he covered, the people he met, and the overall experience of seeking out weird venues like these. He and AP get into the nitty gritty of his Vermont presentation, which focused on the case of the Dover Demon, a mysterious creature seen in Massachusetts by multiple witnesses in the 1970s. He also talks about his history with the Exeter UFO Conference, how it has grown over time, and the sense of community which has informed the very popular regional event.
That's not all though! Tim's adventures also took him to Wisconsin, where he checked out some weird museums covering everything from circus history to architecture and even mustard! Tim's travels and experiences show that there is no shortage of weirdness out there to discover and engage with, and gives advice and encouragement to listeners to find adventures for themselves.
Tim's podcast, Binnall of America: The Revival, is currently on a brief break but will return soon- if you're not already, go and subscribe!
Going Behind the Screams at Spooky World with David Bertolino
2026/10/01
With the arrival of spooky season, AP welcomes to the show "Mr. Halloween" himself, New England's own original hauntropreneur David Bertolino to look back on his groundbreaking horror theme park Spooky World and its legacy. His new book, Behind the Screams at Spooky World: The Secrets, Scares, and Stars of America's Original Horror Theme Park, covers the first 12 years of turning a small farmhouse plot into a cultural mecca. With plenty of great photos and introductory words from Linda Blair and Alice Cooper, the book reveals a wild history of chance-taking, controlled chaos, and spooktacular fun!In conversation David explains his early inspirations for the park, and the evolution of what started as a haunted hayride- from his early fascinations with horror in the form of Vincent Price movies and the costumes in his family's magic and joke shop to working with Hollywood effects legend Tom Savini and building an at-the-time unheard of sensory experience of Halloween thrills. The novelty of the park would go on to inspire other locales, and its legacy can be felt to this day in the form of other such attractions and horror conventions- and as it happens, David will be doing a panel at the Silver Scream Con in Worcester, MA, on October 2nd along with Linda Blair to promote the book! The story of Spooky World is a fun one, and well worth considering, populated with characters such as Tiny Tim, Robert Englund, the Mouse Girl, psychotic clowns, football players, and more! David is quite the storyteller, and a perfect guest to bring the Halloween fun to the show!
Check out David's book here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1577159179?lv=shuf&channelId=500&plpRedirect=mhFallback...and find the documentary about Spooky World, Spooktacular!, on streaming services such as Tubi, Amazon Prime, or Shudder!
Celebrating Poe (and more!) with Meg Smith
2026/09/27
This week's show is a celebration of Edgar Allan Poe with journalist, poet, and events producer Meg Smith! Meg is one of the organizers behind the Poe in Lowell Festival, an annual event entering its third year in her hometown of Lowell, MA. In conversation, she explains Poe's connections to the city, the people he interacted with, and influence throughout the region. Of course, there's plenty to talk about with Poe, from his beginnings in Boston to his death in Baltimore- and the spectral imprint he left on all the places in between! Meg also discusses the strange correlations between Poe and Lowell's own Jack Kerouac, whose festival occurs in the week's leading up to Poe's in the city. In exploring local literary history, Meg and AP dig into the almost mythic presence such well-known writers occupy in the public imagination- and how locales frequented by them retain some of their spirit.
If that's not enough, they also get into Poe's influence on H. P. Lovecraft and the Providence festival that celebrates him, Meg shares stories from working at Spooky World in the 90s, and she talks about her upcoming Martian New Year's party in Worcester! The conversation covers a lot of ground, from the gothic to the beat generation and onward into space- and Meg had so many great insights to share!

Entering the Fairy Realm with Jo Hickey-Hall
2026/09/20
This week, Jo Hickey-Hall joins AP to discuss all things fairy and much more! Jo is a folklore researcher, and has long hosted The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast- a show where she invites guests to share their experiences with the otherworldly. In conversation, she and AP discuss some of her investigations, her personal encounters, and thoughts about public perceptions about fairies and those who report seeing them. They talk about nature, and the connection of places to the more ethereal entities which inhabit them- and the spiritual or emotional energies which drive such encounters.
Jo's years worth of work researching and exploring the fairy realm have also culminated in a book called Modern Fairy Sightings: Personal Encounters in Extraordinary Times, which will release in November of 2026. They discuss the upcoming book, (which sounds like a great Christmas gift for the discerning Fortean in your life!), as well as the rapidly changing and often terrifying mundane world we inhabit- and what that means for the more ethereal planes of reality. Jo's insights and knowledge leave listeners with a lot to think about!
If you haven't already, be sure to check out The Modern Fairy Sightings Podcast wherever you find your shows- and keep your eyes peeled for Jo's book when it releases!
Taking a Look at Experiencer Narratives with Dona Masi
2026/09/13
This week, author, journalist, playwright, and editor Dona Masi joins AP for a discussion about alien abductions and her novel inspired by them, The Taking. Her book is a coming of age story for a young girl named Vera, who must navigate the normal trials of growing up alongside troublesome dreams and strange experiences she can't explain- or even tell anyone about. The story is a heartfelt and sympathetic tale which speaks to the isolation of experiencers, and as the story unfolds one gets a sense of the private struggles abductees might deal with. In conversation, she and AP discuss the book and some of the real-life accounts that inspired it- notably, the Betty and Barney Hill Incident which occurred in Dona's home state of New Hampshire, the accounts of Whitley Strieber, and others.
Dona also relates some of her own personal experiences, as well as her inspirations and philosophies regarding how she writes fiction. Throughout the interview, she and AP explore the various ways storytelling impacts us all, notable UFO events and how they are studied, and much more!

Celebrating 100 Episodes with Listener Questions
2026/09/06
This week, we're celebrating 100 episodes of The AP Strange Show with questions from YOU, the listener! In anticipation of the milestone, AP put out a call on social media for questions to be answered in an "AMA" format, and listeners did not disappoint- several people sent really thoughtful, great questions (as well as a few absurd and fun ones) for AP to answer.
It is hoped that the listener will find this episode fun and enlightening, as it deviates a bit from the usual format with guests or pre-prepared bonus material. Questions from listeners led to a lot of strange and disparate areas of the Weird, from time travel to mystical concepts, to personal stories and poltergeists- and gave AP a chance to cut loose and get a little philosophical about things. Of course there's some humor and perhaps a few goofy voices and corny jokes, which is hard to avoid when you are AP Strange.
Enjoy the show, and here's looking forward to 100 more episodes! Harrumph!
Celebrating Kubrick with Chris Ernst
2026/08/30
This week's show is a celebration of Stanley Kubrick, with filmmaker, teacher, and student of the weird Chris Ernst dropping in to discuss the legendary movie director with AP, and ther was a lot to talk about! From an in-depth discussion of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb to overall influence of Kubrick's oeuvre, they get into the nitty-gritty about his methods, subjects, and style. They discuss major themes that run throughout Kubrick's work, as well as some of the more esoteric aspects of his framing of shots and visual rhyming which act as a through line in his corpus of films.
They also talk about the mystique around the iconic director, and the attendant conspiracy theories and synchromystical interpretations such as whether he helped to fake the moon landing. Further, they get into associated films such as Room 237, and how art- whatever the medium- inspires all manner of different interpretations. It's a fascinating deep dive into the man and his movies, yet still barely scratches the surface of one of the 20th century's greatest auteurs.
Chris is a semi-regular co-host on Where Did the Road Go?, and you can find him there- also, be sure to check out the film he co-directed with prior guest Bill Darmon, The Hill and the Hole, distributed by Troma.
Entertaining the Ghostly with Kjersti Beth
2026/08/23
This week, paranormal tour guide, researcher, and investigator Kjersti Beth joins AP for a very fun and wide-ranging discussion about hauntings and associated weirdness. Kjersti presented ideas about the Stone Tape Theory at the 2023 Paranormal Research Symposium, the paper for which appears in their published journal- and in conversation she gets into various ideas about ghosts and ghostly phenomena, based on both research and her personal experiences. She and AP get into ideas about residual hauntings, the role of animals in paranormal experiences, and much more!
In her hometown of Madison, WI, Kjersti leads tours for Mad City Ghost Walks, and talks about some of her tour locations and what it's like to show people around and hear their stories. She gets into some of her inspirations and varied other interests, culminating in her current adventures- including camping out on Bray Road, home of the Beast! Kjersti brings an open mind and a lot of fun energy to these topics, making this conversation well worth a listen!
Follow Kjersti on Instagram at @kjee83 , and check out Mad City Ghost Walks here: https://www.madcityghostwalks.com/
The Journal of Presentations from the Paranormal Research Symposium can be found on Amazon, where you can read Kjersti's paper- and AP's as well!
Looking Skyward with Andrew B. Watt
2026/08/16
This week, AP is joined by astrologer, poet, and teacher Andrew B. Watt for a fascinating conversation about magic, time, and the hidden mechanisms behind it all. Andrew offers services as an astrologer and consultant, building upon years of study and practice, but he and AP came to know each other through a mutual love of poetry years ago; and Andrew's forecasts and astrological writings online are a wonderful fusion of both his zodiacal and poetic talents. Getting into the nitty-gritty of what the planets tell us, Andrew has built a corpus of writings including odes, hymns, sonnets, and other poems dedicated to specific aspects of astrology- providing readers with insights that otherwise might be obscure.
In conversation, Andrew talks about where his interest in magic and astrology began; he explains a bit of modern history of astrology in western occult and popular culture, his own experiences as a consultant, how myths and legends inform our understanding of reality, and how patterns of movement in the night's sky have guided humanity for ages. If that's not enough, he talks a bit about mundane astrology and what conjunctions on larger timescales tell us about the state of the world- and where we might be headed in the near future.

Historical Venting with April Brucker (and Friends)
2026/08/09
This week's show is a unique and fun one, as ventriloquist, comedienne, actor, and author April Brucker joins AP for a fascinating discussion about America's relationship with ventriloquism and her own personal experiences as a performer. April's new book, 250 Years of American Ventriloquism: How Ventriloquism Influenced American Culture explores the many and varied ways the particular form of performing art has informed not just popular entertainment, but our society more broadly! It's an entertaining read, with poignant observations about the ways puppets have given voice to underrepresented groups and have largely been able to get away with saying things mere human performers might have difficulty with.
As an added treat, April's "children" join the conversation at different points. Her longtime partner Mae Wilson regales AP with road stories and shares pivotal moments in her and April's career- from a breakout appearance on the popular TV show My Strange Addiction to gigs in Vegas, to altercations as a result of appearing on What Would You Do? - and even a televised lawsuit on Judge Jerry. If all of that isn't enough, there's even appearances by presidential puppets Tramp and Bidentime, conversations about classic vents such as Paul Winchell, and some of the supernatural origins of voice-throwing. April's knowledge of ventriloquism technique and history is well presented in this high energy chat- and if you're questioning the logic of venting in an audio medium, keep in mind it worked for Edgar Bergen!
250 Years of American Ventriloquism can be found wherever fine books are sold. Check out April's website for more about her work here: http://www.aprilbrucker.tv/
Getting Monstrous with Mister Sam Shearon
2026/08/02
This week, Fortean artist, writer, actor, and sometimes squatcher Mister Sam Shearon joins AP for a chat that goes all over the paranormal map. They discuss all manner of weirdness, ranging from Bigfoot to phantom pantaloons to UFOs- and so much more! Sam talks about his early inspirations in the realm of monsters, and the development of his skills illustrating all kinds of things that go bump in the night. His talents have been featured on over 100 paranormal book covers, as well as leading to illustration work in the comic book industry and for heavy metal bands. In conversation he talks a bit about his process, the various media through which otherwordly entities are depicted, and the often troublesome nature of conveying the fantastical in a way that honors witness accounts. Along the way, discussion comes back to the evolving ideas around high strangeness in a world of more varied forms of media.
If that's not enough, they also talk about hoaxes and the enduring appeal of classic evidence, regardless of any debunking; they talk about horror media and Sam's experiences working with Clive Barker's team, and his brief stint playing Dracula on stage; they discuss Christmas creepiness and Sam's written works about yuletide monsters; fairies, encounters that defy categorization, and poltergeists... it's a wonderful chat chock full of paranormal goodies for the discerning Fortean.

BONUS EPISODE: From Brooklyn to Neptune: The Bugs Bunny / UFO Connection
2026/07/26
This week, we at Strange HQ are taking time out for the main show but still delivering a bonus episode in celebration of Bugs Bunny's 86th birthday! This bonus episode is composed of a piece written several years ago by AP, and is a personal favorite for him of his Weird Writings. How is Bugs related to UFOs? You'll have to listen to find out!
Also included are a few announcements about the rapidly approaching 100th episode of The AP Strange Show. Tune in to find out how you can be involved, should you so choose!
Apologies in advance for some audio difficulties in this bonus episode- some combination of Mercury Gatorade and interdimensional jiggery-pokery were at play in the recording and editing process... Enjoy!
Getting Pulled Back in with Blackwolf John Oates and Peter C. Hine (3xtC)
2026/07/19
This week, it's another edition of Third Time's the Charm (3xtc) covering the regrettable conclusion to the epic film saga of The Godfather. Blackwolf John Oates and Vayse co-host Peter C. Hine return to the show, getting "pulled back in" as it were, to pick apart the 1990 return to the world of organized crime centered around the Corleone family with AP. As tends to happen with these episodes, the prior movies are discussed as well which, in this case especially, does no favors to the sequel in question.
The conversation around Godfather Part 3 (or is it Godfather: Coda?) quickly becomes a raucous good time, with plenty of opportunities for joking around tempered by a genuine affection for the cinematic world Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola brought to the screen. Blackwolf, Hine, and AP dig into some of the baffling choices that were made for this later sequel, as well as ones that could have been with proposed actors and directors that didn't pan out. The discussion covers Al Pacino's transformation into a caricature, kissing cousins, donkey noises, and more... covering The Godfather as a series of films could be an entire podcast on its own, and in this show every effort was made to at least save listeners the trouble of actually watching the third one.
This episode also gets into organized crime more broadly, Vatican banking scandals which partly inspired the story of the film, and the importance of paying Robert Duvall. It was a very funny conversation, and contains more laughs and f-bombs than any other episode to date. Sit back, tune in, and enjoy- it's an offer you can't refuse!
Sonic Journeying with Nick Paraggio / Captain Vampire
2026/07/12
This week, Boston-based songwriter Nick Paraggio joins AP for a discussion about their journey as a performing musician, the unique subjects that inspire their songs, and even some personal mystical experiences for good measure! Nick has performed as Captain Vampire for the last several years, and released albums full of songs covering feuding occultists, pigeons, and odd historical events. In conversation, Nick discusses the process of crafting songs from the stories of figures such as Hildegard von Bingen or Alexander the Great, navigating music scenes and finding one's own way in the world of performance, and even the ins and outs of being a gigging lute player in 2026!
Nick has also composed a folk-punk epic about Dracula's voyage to England called "A Sailor's Grave", which will be recorded live at the Boston Center for the Arts August 7th and 8th, and available for purchase as an album later in the fall. If you are near Boston, you can be a part of infusing the magic of live music into the album but if not, you can secure a copy here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/243560666/a-sailors-grave-captain-vampires-folk-punk-epic-poem
The music of Captain Vampire is moving, filled with fascinating sources of inspiration, and often very fun and humorous as well. Be sure to check it all out here: https://captvampire.com/
Disclosing Non-Human Intelligence with Steph Quick and Rachel Nelson
2026/07/05
This week, returning guests Stephanie Quick and Rachel Nelson join AP for an examination of UAP disclosure narratives, in particular that of contact with "non-human intelligences", or NHI. In the process, they look at the broad spectrum of lifeforms which meet that description, and the many and varied ways communication and intelligence manifest here on earth. In comparing the known science and history of human and animal cooperation with reports of extraterrestrial or ultraterrestrial contacts, they consider a broad range of what constitutes such nebulous categories as sentience, consciousness, or intelligence- opening up an avenue of conjecture which they hope will inspire listeners to imagine greater possibilities in these subjects.
Drawing from biology, mystical traditions, UFO contactee accounts, and pop culture representation this often lighthearted conversation explores everything from learned pigs to balloons, from astral vehicles to mantoids and the sentience of weather phenomenon, and even what great apes might know about other intelligences. Stephanie and Rachel each bring a unique wealth of knowledge and their particular brands of nuanced, original thought to the topic- and have plenty of laughs along the way.
Follow more of Rachel's work on YouTube by looking up Ufo Sunset, and give Stephanie's channel a follow there as well for her frequent insightful live videos!
