Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 46 - When The Bell Tolls, Enter Benjamin

Sines and Darren are back — and this week we're trying something new: recording on the move, mid-game, mid-life, mid-pour.
Oktoberfest wraps in Bavaria (6.5 million thirsty guests, €15 liters of Festbier) but it's just getting rolling stateside — so what's your favorite Fest bier ever? Plus, Hofbräuhaus Las Vegas is up for sale. Then it's sports everywhere: the Aces in a do-or-die playoff game vs. the Fever, Golden Knights Year 10, the 3-0 Raiders hosting the Chiefs, and the three groups left standing in the race for an NBA expansion team in Vegas.
We dig into what G2E's casino CEOs are really saying — leisure travelers softening, luxury gamblers still strong, and Harry Reid's 19th straight month of declining passenger traffic. Is it better to sell 800 rooms at $400 or 1,000 at $250?
Also: Metallica's 24-show "Life Burns Faster" residency at Sphere (no repeat weekends!), private equity taking over kids' sports, the ADU push behind Nevada's AB 396, why term limits are popular but nearly impossible, and a quick Ted Lasso Season 4 check-in.
Pour one up and press play. 🍺

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 45 - The Paramount of Apple Passion

It’s the last Vegas Day Drinkers episode of summer 2026, and Chris and Darren are closing the season with tipping, tourism, technology, football, concerts and television.
After NBC’s TODAY asked viewers whether to “Tip or Skip,” we continue the national tipping-culture conversation from the hospitality worker’s side of the bar. Has tipping gone too far, or are customers blaming tipped employees for a system they didn’t create?
We also examine summer passenger traffic at Harry Reid International Airport, rising fuel and travel costs, and what they could mean for Las Vegas tourism. Then we catch up on the future of transportation in Vegas—including rideshare changes, the Vegas Loop and Tesla tunnels, Vay, Waymo and Zoox.
There’s also a shoutout to Pouring Stories host Michael Giambrone and his conversation with legendary mixologist Tony Abou-Ganim about hospitality and the reimagining of Helen David’s historic Brass Rail in Port Huron, Michigan.
Plus: AC/DC, Guns N’ Roses and Foo Fighters at Allegiant Stadium; Raiders talk as the preseason ends; and what we’re watching, including Ted Lasso, Special Ops: Lioness, Reacher and more.
Pull up a stool and close out summer with the Vegas Day Drinkers Podcast—hosted by Chris and Darren.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 44- Don't Have Mustard, Let's Ketchup!

It's summer in Vegas; it's hot, and after a couple of weeks off, the boys are finally back behind the mics. No script, no guests, no plan — just a freestyle "let's catch up" episode to knock the rust off and get something published. Grab an ice-cold Busch Light and settle in.
On this one, Vegas Day Drinkers cover a little bit of everything: a full 2026 World Cup recap now that the dust has settled — including how it went for the host nations (Canada, Mexico, and the USA all bowed out in the Round of 16) and Spain's extra-time win over Argentina in the final. The guys break down LeBron James shocking the NBA by leaving the Lakers for the Philadelphia 76ers on his self-described "last decision," teaming up with Joel Embiid for one more title run.
From there it's straight into pop culture: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and the wild ambition of shooting the entire film on IMAX 70mm — a first in cinema history — plus Matt Damon as Odysseus. They also get into Star Trek turning 60 and the big Star Trek convention rolling into Las Vegas next week, and close it out with some proper summer nonsense: pool crashes and slugging ice-cold Busch Lights in the desert heat.
Two guys, a few drinks, and everything that's been going on. Welcome back to the pod.

Pour yourself a tipple of a tuath of Jameson Black Barrel and get ready for episode 43 — Vegas Day Drinkers is here. We open with love: happy birthday to Raffo and continued healing vibes to Steve Kay. Then we get into it — the passing of legendary TV director James "Jimmy" Burrows, the man behind Cheers, Friends, Frasier, Will & Grace, Taxi, and basically every sitcom that defined American television from the '70s through today. We walk his entire career arc and the landmark legacy he left for LGBTQ representation on network TV.
We break down the Stanley Cup chaos (Tortorella out, Ryan Craig in, Kelly McCrimmon making moves), check in on the World Cup one week into the first-ever 48-team, three-nation tournament — including the Tartan Army overtaking Boston and Europeans discovering Buc-ee's, Waffle House, and "free" soda refills. Plus the origin story of our Challenge Coin and what we're building with it.
And the big one: Bourdain Day, this Thursday, June 25th at the Huntridge Tavern. We retrace every Vegas spot Tony visited across No Reservations and Parts Unknown — from the Double Down Saloon to Lotus of Siam to Huntridge itself.

The World Cup is coming, and if you're in Vegas, you don't want to be watching it alone on your couch. We hit the pavement to find the best spots in town to catch every match — the places with the right crowd, the cold pints, and the kind of atmosphere that turns a group-stage game into an event.
In this one we break down our six picks: The Irish Spot, Hofbräuhaus, Jackpots Bar and Grill, McMullan's Irish Pub, Crown and Anchor, and Wahoo's on Sunset. Whether you want a proper pub roar, a beer hall full of strangers who'll be your best friends by the second half, or a neighborhood spot where the regulars already saved you a seat — we've got you covered.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 42 - Throwing Cecils and Vegas 86'd On The Most Important of D(Day)s
2026/06/11
Send us Fan Mail
This episode lands on the most important of D's — D-Day. Throwing Cecils and Vegas 86'd raise a glass to honor Corporal Jack McGowan Kay, the boys of the Greatest Generation, and everyone who served. We're also sending healing vibes to Steve Kay out in Bowmansville — get well, friend. Keep hammering.
From there we run the Vegas board: VGK back in the Stanley Cup Final, Illenium at Toshiba Plaza, and Knicks–Spurs in the NBA Finals.
Shop Talk brings the local flavor — The Hat opens in Las Vegas, Able Baker expands with The Bomb Shelter, and Stage Door hits 50 years. On the labor and gaming front, we dig into Sphere worker protections and Sigma Derby galloping from The D over to Golden Gate.
County Commission's busy too: Formula 1 locked through 2037, Flavor Flav's SHE Weekend, and the ongoing airport DBE negotiations. Plus — where's the beef? Or maybe the better question is what's IN the beef?
Then we get into the big one: the future of the Strip. What a potential MGM sale and tightening corporate control could mean for creativity, competition, and the old-school Las Vegas vision we love.
And don't forget — Bourdain Day, June 25 at Huntridge Tavern. Grab your free ticket at bourdainday.vegas

The K Pop Shaped Economy of Las Vegas
2026/06/01
Send us Fan Mail
Welcome back to the Vegas Day Drinkers podcast. Episode 41 — "The K-Pop Shaped Economy of Las Vegas" — is a full pour.
We start with the elephant in the city: BTS. The seven-member K-pop juggernaut just wrapped four sold-out nights at Allegiant Stadium on their ARIRANG World Tour, and the boys didn't just play shows — they reshaped the whole town for a week. Pop-ups, branded activations, packed hotels, and a purple ocean of fans pouring money across the valley. We break down what a single K-pop residency does to the Las Vegas economy, and why the title of this episode says it all.
Then it's into the rink: the Vegas Golden Knights are headed to the Stanley Cup Final against the Carolina Hurricanes, with Game 1 on June 2. We size up the matchup and what a Cup run means for the city. From there we head to Europe for the UEFA Champions League clash between PSG and Arsenal, plus the looming World Cup and how local bars and pubs are scrambling to pull in viewers and turn match days into business.
Then we sober up for the heavy stuff. We dig into Western states' water rights, Bureau of Reclamation pressures on the Colorado River, and the real possibility that Las Vegas may one day lean on desalination. We also unpack Tilman Fertitta's roughly $17.6 billion deal to take over Caesars Entertainment — owner of Caesars Palace and a chunk of the Strip — and what that shakeup could mean for the city.
Finally, the big one: our first hosted and sponsored event. Bourdain Day, June 25, 2026, at the historic Huntridge Tavern, in collaboration with Jameson Black Barrel. Come raise a glass with us.
Pour something, pull up a stool, and drink the day with us.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 40 - Two Sticks W/ The Spirit of Amber Is The Yellow of Your Energy.

Two videos hit YouTube this week. One said Vegas is about to break because the airport's too full. The other said Vegas is dying because the tourists aren't coming. Both went viral. Both can't be right — except they kind of are.
In Episode 40, we dig into the Spirit Airlines collapse and the Harry Reid International math problem nobody wants to talk about: 58.4 million passengers in 2024, a hard ceiling at 63–65 million projected to hit by 2030, and a relief valve at Ivanpah Valley that doesn't open until 2035 at the earliest. Meanwhile Sphere, F1, Super Bowl, WrestleMania, and the new MLB stadium keep stacking demand on top.
We also raise a glass to Brian Wolfe — a consummate bartender with deep craft knowledge from Paradise Cantina and Tenaya Creek — and use it as a jumping-off point to talk go-to shots through the generations: Red Headed Sluts, German Chocolate Cake, Pineapple Upside Down, Green Tea, and what's actually moving across the bar today.
Plus: - DBE talk at the County Commission
- Meeting Brett Barry at Armadillo Inn and Rustic Tap House
- A deep dive on Leroy and Lewis BBQ in Austin, TX
- Shout out to Tony and his wife from KC who sat with Darren and me recently
- The Lotto Store in Primm is closing
- VGK in Round 2 vs the Anaheim Ducks (good luck, but not too much, Mrs. Starkey)
- Bourdain Day, June 25th at Huntridge Tavern — sponsored by Jameson Black, proceeds to the CIA scholarship fund in Anthony Bourdain's memory

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 39 - The Algorithm Walks Into The Bar
2026/04/30
Send us Fan Mail
This week on Vegas Day Drinkers, Chris and Darren bounce from the NFL Draft to the barstool algorithm, and somehow it all still makes sense.
The guys kick around Fernando Mendoza going number one on Thursday night, his Fanatics merch reportedly flying off the shelves, and what that says about sports fandom in the social media age. From there, it is Vegas sports talk: possible new teams, NBA and MLS rumors, VGK playoff energy, and the never-ending question of what this city becomes next.
Chris recaps a visit to Kansas City, including the fries at Rosedale, the weather, gas prices, BBQ, and a moment remembering 45 BB. Then the conversation comes back home with thoughts on UFB in Vegas, early planning for Bourdain Day on June 25th, and first impressions of The Irish Spot.
The boys also get into Phish at the Sphere, Fat Tire, Sierra Nevada, Magic Hat #9, veggie burritos, grilled sausage, early jam band culture, and why alternative beer once felt like a rebellion against the macro machine.
Then it is full bar-culture chaos: Costco hot dog virality, Kirkland water, Coke returning after a decade, Stage Door moving away from Bud and Bud Light, Heineken, Dos Equis, Heineken 0.0, and the strange way brands live or die in real-world hospitality spaces.
Finally, Chris and Darren unpack social media viability in hospitality, then close with a little urban slang education: the origin of "glizzy," what actually goes on a Chicago dog, and why terms like "dragged through the garden," “with the works," and "char dog" still matter in the language of food, bars, and neighborhood culture.
Pour one up. The algorithm just ordered a round.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 38 - Origins: Two Bartenders, Three Decades, One Vegas Story
2026/04/16
Send us Fan Mail
Every bartender has an origin story. This week, Chris and Darren finally tell theirs.
Before the turnstiles. Before the 40 million travelers a year. Before the shift, meals at McMullan's. Two guys took two very different roads to end up on the same side of the same bar.
Darren started in Seattle — cutting his teeth in a city that takes its drinks as seriously as its coffee — before heading south to Las Vegas in the early 2000s, where he found his home pouring Romulan Ales and Warp Cores at Quark's Bar inside the Star Trek Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton. If you were there, you remember. If you weren't, Darren would take you back.
Chris picked up the trade living in Europe, came to Vegas with a head full of continental bar culture and a year of hard knocks waiting for him. That year, the bartender who'd go on to help open the Hofbräuhaus, then cross the Strip to open Steiner's on South Las Vegas Boulevard — back when the Arts District was still a rumor, and South Vegas was where locals actually drank.
Both paths led through McMullan's. Both paths led to Harry Reid International Airport, where they now work the busiest stretch of tile in the state — pouring for more than 40 million people a year who pass through on their way to somewhere else.
This one's for the career bartenders, the Trekkies, the expats, the industry lifers, and anybody who's ever wondered how someone ends up doing this for twenty-plus years and still loves the work.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 37 - Analog or Just a Stick in the Butt
2026/03/26
Send us Fan Mail
Vegas is on a hot streak and the boys are feeling it. Chris and Darren open Episode 37 by closing out their on-location recap from Shenanigans at McMullan's Irish Pub — the perfect post-St. Patrick's Day, pre-St. Baldrick's Day hang. Then it's all Vegas, all the time.
The NBA Board of Governors officially voted this week to explore expansion — and Las Vegas is one of two cities in the running, with the league targeting the 2028–29 season for a new franchise. Meanwhile, NFL owners are set to formally award Super Bowl 63 to Allegiant Stadium in 2029, a move insiders are already calling a done deal. And if that's not enough, Luke Combs just shattered the all-time attendance record at Allegiant — 70,921 fans on opening night, the largest indoor crowd in Nevada history.
The guys round out the sports conversation with March Madness bracket talk, then shift into something a little more philosophical: the analog comeback. Vinyl is outselling digital downloads. Gen Alpha is reaching for real books and card games. Is this cultural unplugging a genuine movement — or just a stick in the butt? Pour one up and weigh in.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 36 - Clover
2026/03/20
Send us Fan Mail
In Episode 36 of Vegas Day Drinkers, hosts Chris and Darren settle in at Shenanigans for a conversation steeped in Las Vegas history, Irish pub culture, hospitality, sport, community, and heart.
This week, the boys sit down with Brian McMullan, bar publican and the driving force behind McMullan’s Irish Pub, one of the most beloved Irish pubs in Las Vegas. Brian shares the story behind the formation of the pub in 2002, the vision behind its early design, and the journey that helped shape one of the valley’s true hospitality institutions.
The conversation winds through Brian’s time with the Irish Pub Company, his experience with J.C. Woolighan’s in Summerlin, and his relationships with Nine Fine Irishmen at New York-New York, before eventually striking out on his own path. Chris and Darren also dig into the origin of one of McMullan’s most talked-about menu items, the legendary Irish Nachos, along with the pub’s unique interpretation of the Irish Coffee.
But this episode goes beyond food and drink. Brian talks about his long-standing passion for bringing a more global sports culture to Las Vegas pub life, with consistent support for European soccer, rugby, Aussie rules football, and other nontraditional sporting events rarely given center stage in American bar culture. The guys also discuss McMullan’s role in supporting local Vegas teams through the years and how the pub has become a true gathering place for fans from every walk of life.
The episode closes on what may be Brian’s most meaningful passion project: St. Baldrick’s. Chris, Darren, and Brian reflect on McMullan’s Irish Pub’s deep involvement in raising money and awareness for children’s cancer research, and how the pub has become a genuine cornerstone of the Las Vegas community through that mission.
This is more than a pub story. It is a story about legacy, risk, culture, hospitality, and giving back.
Pull up a pint and join us for one of the most informative and heartfelt episodes yet.

Vegas Day Drinkers - Episode 35 - Mickey's in March Modifies Moods
2026/03/14
Send us Fan Mail
Episode 35 of Vegas Day Drinkers dives into a Las Vegas that still knows how to put on a show, but also feels like it’s in one of those rare moments where the city is being forced to look in the mirror. Chris and Darren break down what’s happening around town right now, from softer tourism numbers and the city’s renewed push for value, to locals suddenly being courted again with real discounts, food and drink specials, and the kind of perks that remind you Vegas may finally be trying to win back some goodwill. LVCVA says Las Vegas welcomed 38.5 million visitors in 2025, down 7.5% from 2024, and that drop is part of the backdrop for a bigger conversation about whether the city has gotten too expensive for its own good.
This episode gets into that tension in a very Vegas Day Drinkers way: is Vegas correcting itself, or just dressing up a bigger problem with coupons and promos? Chris and Darren talk about Caesars leaning into 25% off food and drinks for locals, the way town suddenly seems interested in Nevada residents again, and what that says about the current mood on the Strip. It is the kind of conversation locals have all the time at the bar: when the tourists are flowing, locals feel ignored, but when visitation softens, everybody remembers we live here.
They also hit the fun stuff that makes Vegas still feel like Vegas. There is talk about the latest buzz around food and drink, including newer spots getting attention like Hearthstone’s return at Red Rock, plus Viking Mike’s Alpine Yurt Bar and White Whale adding to the sense that off-Strip Vegas and downtown continue to carve out some of the most interesting energy in the city. That opens the door for the classic Vegas Day Drinkers debate: where would you rather spend your time and money right now, the polished spectacle of the Strip or the more personal charm of neighborhood and downtown spots?
With March rolling through town, Episode 35 also taps into the sports-and-bar crossover that Vegas does so well. The Mountain West Basketball Championships are in Las Vegas at Thomas & Mack from March 7 to March 14, which means the city is full of fans, alumni, bettors, and roving day drinkers all looking for somewhere to watch a game, grab a bite, and argue about brackets over a beer. It is one of those weeks where Vegas quietly becomes a giant sports bar with hotel towers.
And because this is Vegas in mid-March, the guys also lean into the pub culture side of the calendar, the seasonal madness in the air, and the little things that locals notice before anyone else does. The result is a conversation that mixes real city insight with humor, bar-top perspective, and the kind of lived-in Vegas commentary you only get from people who actually spend time in the places tourists usually miss.
If you love Las Vegas, bars, pub culture, local commentary, and honest talk about what this city is getting right and what it may need to fix, Episode 35 is for you.

Vegas Day Drinkers Club – Episode 34: "The State of Benjamin"
Last week it was the State of the Union. This week, Chris and Darren deliver the State of Benjamin — a full rundown of everything happening in Las Vegas and beyond, served ice cold with a craft beer in hand. Named in honor of co-host Darren Benjamin, this episode is packed with big news, local nostalgia, and the kind of conversation you can only have when you're day drinking with your new friends and old friends.
The Sphere is officially the hottest venue on the planet. Chris and Darren break down the just-announced Mayweather vs. Pacquiao II rematch on September 19th — the first professional boxing match ever held at the Sphere, streaming free on Netflix — and the jaw-dropping news that Metallica is bringing eight — EIGHT — shows to the Sphere in October. Las Vegas is the center of the universe right now, and we're here for all of it.
On the bigger picture front, we dig into the massive new lithium mine opening at Thacker Pass in Esmeralda County, Nevada — potentially a game-changer in the global competition for lithium dominance against Australia, Argentina, and China. This one hits close to home and has implications for the entire country.
Closer to the Strip, we pour one out for Champagne Cafe on Maryland Parkway. Opened in 1966 and a cornerstone of what Chris calls quintessential Vegas kitsch, its closing marks the end of an era. We also explore Boulder City's thriving bar scene — featured on the cover of last week's LV Weekly — and make the case for why it's the perfect half-day getaway for serious day drinkers.
Oh, and did we mention? Team USA swept the gold in BOTH men's AND women's hockey at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. We celebrate accordingly.
All of this sipped alongside a cold one from Enegren Brewing out of Baldwin Park, California. Cheers.

Send us Fan Mail
Vegas Day Drinkers is BACK, baby! 🎉 We're kicking off 2026 with a Valentine's Day recording session and a freestyle episode that covers everything you didn't know you needed to hear about Las Vegas right now.
Your favorite bar industry pros, Chris and Darren crack open a fantastic hefeweizen from Bootlegger Brewing out of Southern California and jump headfirst into the topics everyone in Vegas is actually talking about. We break down the Super Bowl — the game, the commercials, and all the the utter chaos that comes with hosting the biggest sporting event on the planet in America's playground. Then we get serious about the Las Vegas market and why it feels more volatile than a craps table on a Saturday night.
We also tackle the big question: how does the rest of the country really see Las Vegas in 2026? Spoiler — the perception gap is widening, and with private equity money flooding the Strip, guests are starting to feel every resort fee, parking charge, and convenience surcharge in their wallets. Are the major hotels and casinos nickeling and diming their way out of loyalty? We've got opinions — and we're not holding back.
Whether you're a Vegas local, a frequent visitor, or just obsessed with everything Sin City, this is the episode you've been waiting for.
