November 6 — Resolutely Toward Jerusalem — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 11; 19; Luke 9–11; 17; John 10 | Resolved to Read
2026/11/06
In today's reading from Matthew 19:1–2; 11:20–27, Luke 9:51–56; 17:11–19; 10:1–42; 11:1–13, and John 10:22–42, Jesus knows the religious leaders in Jerusalem want Him dead, yet He "resolutely set out for Jerusalem." Along the way, an expert in the law asks what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus turns the conversation on its head with the parable of the Good Samaritan, exposing the prejudice hidden in the hearts of His listeners: the neighbor who shows mercy is the despised outsider. At Martha's home, He gently says that Mary, sitting at His feet and listening, "has chosen what is better." He teaches His disciples to pray and reassures them that the Father loves to give good gifts to His children, above all the Holy Spirit. Then, at the Festival of Dedication, He declares, "I and the Father are one," and His enemies pick up stones. These passages call us to sit at His feet, love without prejudice, and follow Him with the same resolve. November 5 — "I Am": The Light of the World and the Good Shepherd — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | John 8–10 | Resolved to Read
2026/11/05
In today's reading from John 8:12–10:21, Jesus uses symbolic images again to move His listeners past what they can see and toward what's happening in the heart. "I am the light of the world," He says. "Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness." Then He makes a claim that sends the crowd into a rage: "Before Abraham was born, I am!" They pick up stones because they understand exactly what He means. He is using the name God gave Moses at the burning bush, "I AM," the meaning behind God's Hebrew name, Yahweh. Jesus is claiming to be equal with God. He then heals a man born blind, while the religious leaders who think they can see stay spiritually blind. To truly see, they have to turn to the light of the world and accept Him for who He says He is. He also calls Himself the Good Shepherd, whose sheep know His voice and follow Him because He cares for them, unlike a hired hand who runs at the first sign of danger. And He tells them what that care will cost: "The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep... I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again." November 4 — Rivers of Living Water and Mercy for the Accused — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | John 7–8 | Resolved to Read
2026/11/04
In today's reading from John 7:2–8:11, Jesus goes up to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles while the crowds argue about who He is and the religious leaders look for a way to arrest Him. On the last and greatest day of the feast, He stands and calls out: "Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink." Then the teachers of the law bring Him a woman caught in adultery, hoping to trap Him. Jesus answers, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone," and one by one they walk away. To her He says, "Neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin." It's worth knowing that the earliest written manuscripts of John don't include this account. However, historical evidence shows that it was a real event remembered by the disciples and passed down orally in the early church, and by the 4th century it was widely and appropriately accepted as Scripture. It shows us Jesus' mercy and His call to holiness, two things that are never separate in Him. November 3 — On This Rock: The Cost and Humility of Following the Messiah — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 16–18; Mark 8–9; Luke 9; 17 | Resolved to Read
2026/11/03
In today's reading from Matthew 16:13–18:35, Mark 8:27–9:50, and Luke 9:43–50; 17:1–10, Peter makes his great confession: "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." Jesus says He will build His church on this rock, the truth of who He is. That means the church belongs to Jesus, and He is its head. Jesus then tells His disciples what it takes to follow Him. He expects them to be full of faith and humility, and willing to lose their lives for His sake: "Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." He calls us to give up our pursuit of greatness and become humble like little children. He also calls us to forgive those who wrong us, not seven times but seventy-seven times, because God has canceled a debt far greater than any debt anyone owes us. These chapters show what it looks like to belong to the Messiah: faith, humility, sacrifice, and mercy. November 2 — Crumbs of Faith and the Yeast of the Pharisees — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 15–16; Mark 7–8 | Resolved to Read
2026/11/02
In today's reading from Matthew 15:21–39; 16:1–12 and Mark 7:24–37; 8:1–26, a Canaanite woman begs Jesus to heal her daughter. She isn't an Israelite, but she won't give up: "Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master's table." Jesus praises her great faith, showing His disciples that people outside Israel can be saved by faith too. He feeds four thousand, heals the deaf and the blind, and then warns His disciples to "be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees." Once again they take Him literally and think He's talking about forgetting to bring bread. Jesus has to explain that He means their false teaching. This shows that Jesus never meant for us to literally eat His body and drink His blood. He meant that we should feed on His teaching and reject the false teaching that spreads like yeast through the whole batch. November 1 — The Bread of Life: Feeding on Every Word — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 14–15; Mark 6–7; John 6–7 | Resolved to Read
2026/11/01
In today's reading from Matthew 14:14–36; 15:1–20, Mark 6:34–56; 7:1–23, and John 6:2–71; 7:1, Jesus feeds five thousand people, walks on the water, and then confronts the religious leaders for focusing on the physical rather than the spiritual meaning of the law. They were willing to twist the law on technicalities to benefit themselves, which defeats the whole purpose of living in a way that pleases God. That's why they and the crowds couldn't understand Him when He said He is the Bread of Life, and that whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood will never thirst. He wasn't speaking literally. He meant it spiritually — they needed to feed on and drink in His Word, and ultimately His death would mean life for them. We know He is speaking symbolically because of what we read in the Old Testament: "He humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna... that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD" (Deuteronomy 8:3). October 31 — The Harvest Is Plentiful, the Workers Are Few — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 9–11; 14; Mark 6; Luke 9 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/31
In today's reading from Matthew 9:35–38; 10:1–42; 11:1; 14:1–13, Mark 6:6–33, and Luke 9:1–11, Jesus looks at the crowds and sees them "harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd." What He doesn't say is that the harvest needs more money, more funding, or even more of His own ministry. He says the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few, and then He sends out the workers — ordinary men given authority to heal, cast out demons, and proclaim the kingdom. The one thing most needed to bring in the harvest is more workers, and the workers are His disciples. That applies to our mission today, in our neighborhoods, our communities, our cities, and to the ends of the earth. Money can't win people to Christ. Disciples can. A disciple is someone who follows in the footsteps of Jesus. If Jesus fished for people, then we fish for people. If He took up His cross, then we take up ours and follow Him. October 30 — The Cost of Following and the Faith That Heals — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 8–9; Mark 4–6; Luke 8–9 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/30
In today's reading from Matthew 8:18–27; 9:18–34, Luke 9:57–62; 8:22–56, and Mark 4:35–6:6, Jesus starts by telling would-be followers what it will cost them: "Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." If we choose to follow Him, we won't find our home in this world either. Following Jesus is a serious commitment that calls us to give things up so we can proclaim the Kingdom of God to others. Then His power is on full display. He calms the storm, frees a man tormented by a legion of demons, heals a woman who touches His cloak, raises Jairus's daughter, and gives sight to the blind. One thing in these healings is easy to miss: faith. "Daughter, your faith has healed you." "According to your faith let it be done to you." But in His hometown, Jesus "could not do any miracles there" except a few, and He was amazed at their lack of faith. These chapters call us to count the cost and to trust Him fully. October 29 — Seeds, Soil, and the God Who Gives the Growth — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 13; Mark 4; Luke 8; 13 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/29
In today's reading from Matthew 13:1–52, Mark 4:1–34, and Luke 8:4–18; 13:18–21, Jesus teaches in parables that describe the people listening to Him, and the same truths still apply today. In the parable of the sower, some seed is snatched away, some springs up quickly on rocky ground and then withers, and some is choked by thorns. Only the seed in good soil produces a lasting harvest. We see the same thing in our churches when quick decisions for Christ fade because we don't prepare the soil by keeping people rooted in the Word of God. In the parable of the weeds, an enemy sows destruction among the wheat, and Satan is still doing that among God's people. Yet Jesus also tells of seed that grows while the farmer sleeps, a tiny mustard seed that becomes a tree, and yeast that works through the whole batch of dough. Growth doesn't come from our own effort. It comes from the Holy Spirit working in our hearts. Our job is to plant faithfully, tend the soil with God's Word, and trust Him with the harvest. October 28 — Righteousness from the Inside Out — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Luke 11–13 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/28
In today's reading from Luke 11:37–13:17, Jesus contrasts two kinds of righteousness. The Pharisees focus on how things look from the outside: clean cups, public prayers, and religious performance meant to be seen by others. Jesus calls them out: "You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and wickedness." That kind of fake righteousness is really the opposite of righteousness. It condemns the people who practice it and leads others down the same road toward judgment. Jesus teaches the inner righteousness God actually wants, a heart that is honest before Him. Then comes the parable of the fig tree, a picture of Jerusalem. For years the tree has produced no fruit, and now it gets one last season before it's cut down. Jesus is standing among them, and the people have one final chance to repent and receive Him as their Messiah. The parable is also a prophecy. Because the city will reject Him, it will be cut down, and in A.D. 70 Jerusalem and its temple are destroyed. All through Luke, Jesus' journey keeps moving closer to Jerusalem, the city where He will be rejected and crucified. October 27 — The Alabaster Jar: Knowing How Much You've Been Forgiven — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 8; 11–12; Luke 7–8; Mark 3 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/27
Today's reading from Matthew 8:5–13; 11:2–19; 12:22–50, Luke 7:1–50; 8:1–3, 19–21; 11:14–36, and Mark 3:20–35 includes one of the most instructive scenes in the Gospels. Jesus is eating at Simon the Pharisee's house when a woman known for her sinful life comes in weeping, washes His feet with her tears, and anoints them. Simon quietly concludes that Jesus must not know what kind of woman this is. Jesus answers with a parable: two people were forgiven debts, one large and one small, and the one who was forgiven more loved more. The point cuts to the heart. Jesus wasn't chasing fame or crowds. He could have spent all His time with those who already knew their need of Him, but He was there at Simon’s house. Jesus showed Simon that the woman's love for Him was directly proportional to how clearly she saw her own sin. Simon wasn't sinless. He simply didn't see his sin, so he had no gratitude, and no love to give. The lesson still holds. The measure of our love for Jesus is the measure of how honestly we see our need for Him. October 26 — The Sermon on the Mount: The Gospel of Jesus — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 5–7; Luke 6 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/26
Today's reading from Matthew 5–7 and Luke 6:20–49 brings us the Sermon on the Mount, the clearest picture we have in Scripture of the typical teachings of Jesus as He traveled from town to town. For the early church, these teachings were the Good News of Jesus — the Gospel. In a world where the Pharisees taught that righteousness came through external rules and careful appearances, Jesus showed people the true path to life: blessed are the poor in spirit, the merciful, the pure in heart. He taught them to love their enemies, to forgive, to give quietly, to seek first the kingdom. He closed with a warning about building on sand instead of rock, and a promise that those who hear His words and put them into practice will stand. Even today we are commanded to teach others everything Jesus commanded. That is how we make disciples — not merely by telling people about Him, but by teaching them to obey everything He said. October 25 — Lord of the Sabbath — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 9; 12; Mark 2–3; Luke 5–6; John 5 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/25
Today's reading from Matthew 9:17; 12:1–21, Mark 2:13–28; 3:1–19, Luke 5:27–39; 6:1–19, and John 5:1–3, 5–47 centers on a clash over the Sabbath. Jesus' disciples pick grain on the Sabbath, and He heals a man with a shriveled hand in the synagogue. The religious leaders treat these as violations, but Jesus answers with a claim that stops them cold: "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath." He is not breaking God's law. He is revealing who He is — the One who gave the Sabbath and knows what it was for. Alongside this, He calls Matthew the tax collector, shares a table with sinners, teaches that new wine needs new wineskins, appoints the twelve, and heals a man who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. The Sabbath was never meant to be a burden. It was meant to point to rest found in Him. October 24 — Healing, Calling, and Authority Over All Things — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | Matthew 4; 8–9; Mark 1–2; Luke 4–5 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/24
Today's reading from Matthew 4:12–25; 8:1–4; 8:14–17; 9:1–8, Mark 1:14–45; 2:1–12, and Luke 4:14–44; 5:1–26 shows Jesus stepping into public ministry with astonishing authority. He begins preaching in Galilee: "The time has come. The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news." Then He calls Peter, Andrew, James, and John from their nets, and heals a man with leprosy, Peter's mother-in-law, and crowds brought to Him at sunset. A paralyzed man is lowered through a roof, and Jesus does something no one expected — He forgives his sins first, then tells him to walk, proving He has authority to do both. He calms fevers, casts out demons, teaches with power, and calls a tax collector named Levi to follow Him. These chapters present a King whose authority reaches bodies, spirits, and the deepest guilt of the human heart. October 23 — Worship in Spirit and Truth — Chronological Audio Bible Reading | John 1–4; Luke 3 | Resolved to Read
2026/10/23
Today's reading from John 1:35–4:54 and Luke 3:19–20 begins with Jesus' first miracle at Cana, and even that sign carries deep meaning. The jars He fills are the purification jars — the water used for ceremonial cleansing. Jesus turns that cleansing water into wine, foreshadowing what His blood would one day do to cleanse us from within. From there He keeps moving people past outward forms to the heart. John's baptism with water points to the One who gives spiritual baptism. Clearing the temple courts shows that God's house is not a marketplace. Telling the Samaritan woman that true worshipers will worship "in spirit and in truth" overturns any pride in which mountain you stand on. Offering her living water, He promises she will never thirst again. To Nicodemus He speaks of being born of the Spirit, not merely born of water — that is, of the flesh. And the beautiful moment comes when His disciples bring Him food and He says His real nourishment is doing the will of the One who sent Him: "My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work." Pursuing the lost is as fundamental to Him as eating.
