Episode 77: Life Isn't Fair. What Are We Teaching Our Kids About It?
2026/10/22
Some kids have it incredibly hard. Others grow up with opportunities, stability, and support. Some children show remarkable kindness and gratitude despite difficult circumstances, while others struggle with respect and accountability.
And sometimes, watching the struggles people are facing leaves us wondering what we can actually do to make a difference.
In this solo episode of Working Moms Redefined, Denise shares what's been weighing on her heart lately: the different realities children grow up in, the challenges families are facing, and the responsibility we have as parents to shape how our kids see and respond to the world around them.
At the center of this conversation is one powerful reminder: How we view things is how we do things.
Denise explores:
Why some children face challenges that others may never fully understand
The importance of teaching gratitude, respect, and accountability without losing compassion
How our own attitudes and reactions shape the way our children see the world
The difference between understanding someone's difficult circumstances and excusing hurtful behavior
Why allowing our kids to experience disappointment can help build resilience
The emotional weight of watching people struggle when we can't fix their circumstances
What we can control, what we can influence, and how we can make a difference without carrying everything ourselves
This isn't an episode with all the answers. It's an honest reflection on parenting, perspective, and the kind of people we're raising, while also recognizing the kind of people we're becoming.
Because we can't promise our children an easy life. We can't protect them from every disappointment. And we certainly can't fix every hard thing happening in the world.
But we can teach them how to respond.
And maybe one of the most important parenting questions we can ask ourselves isn't what we're telling our kids about life.
It's what are we showing them?

Episode 76: Stop Shrinking: Burnout, Self-Doubt, and Becoming Stronger Without Doing More with Daffney Allwein
2026/10/15
Working moms are really good at handling things. The career. The kids. The marriage. The schedules. The expectations. The mental load. We can keep going for a really long time, but being capable of carrying it all doesn't necessarily mean it's good for us.
In this episode, Denise talks with performance coach and Don't Fkn Shrink podcast host Daffney Allwein for a conversation about what happens when high-performing women stop simply pushing through and start paying attention to what their minds and bodies are actually telling them.
Together, they talk about:
How to recognize the difference between being busy and living in burnout
What your nervous system has to do with the way you respond to everyday stress
Why some high performers thrive while others eventually run themselves into the ground
How to let go of perfectionism without lowering your standards
What to do when fear and self-doubt start making decisions for you
Health and fitness after 40 and the myths women need to stop believing
Small habits that can create a major ripple effect in how you feel
How to reconnect with yourself when you've gotten lost somewhere between work, marriage, motherhood, and everything else
And we get into the heart of Daffney's message: don't shrink. Don't make yourself smaller to make everyone else comfortable. Don't assume being strong means pushing harder. And don't let the many roles you play become the reason you lose sight of the woman underneath all of them.
This conversation is for the woman who knows she's capable of a lot, but is beginning to ask a better question: How do I build a life where I don't have to run myself into the ground to feel successful?

Episode 75: Politics at the Dinner Table: Raising Kids Who Think for Themselves
2026/10/08
Politics can feel complicated enough as adults. Then your child comes home repeating something they heard at school, sees something online, or asks a question about an election and suddenly you're trying to figure out: How much do I explain? How much is too much? And how do I teach my kids what I believe without teaching them that everyone who believes differently is wrong?
In this episode, Denise sits down with political scientist and fellow parent Dr. AJ Simmons, Research Director at the University of Illinois Springfield's Center for State Policy and Leadership and host of Crashing the Political Party, for a conversation about parenting in a politically divided world.
And this isn't a conversation about telling you what to believe politically. It's about how we raise kids who are curious, thoughtful, informed, and capable of forming their own opinions.
Together, Denise and AJ talk about:
Age-appropriate ways to explain elections, government, and politics to kids
The danger of teaching children to view politics through a simple “good people versus bad people” lens
Why relationships with people who think differently can be valuable for kids
What to do when political conversations with family or friends get heated
How to raise curious kids when the world around them can feel incredibly divided
AJ also brings the perspective of a dad raising four curious kids of his own, which makes this conversation about much more than political science. It's about what happens when politics enters our homes, our relationships, and the questions our kids are asking. We don't have to give our children every answer. Maybe one of the most important things we can give them is the ability to ask good questions, listen to people they disagree with, think critically, and eventually decide what they believe for themselves.

Episode 74: More Than Just Play: What Kids Really Need to Grow, Connect, and Thrive with Amy Peters
2026/10/01
Between activities, academics, technology, milestones, and all the things we’re told our kids should be doing, it can feel like raising healthy, confident kids has become incredibly complicated. But what if some of the things our kids need most are actually much simpler?
In this episode, Denise talks with Amy Peters, CEO of Quincy Children’s Museum, to talk about the power of play, connection, socialization, and everyday interaction in helping our kids grow.
Together, they talk about:
What Amy is seeing kids and families need most right now
Why play is doing far more developmental work than parents may realize
How play builds confidence, communication, problem-solving, and emotional resilience
What healthy socialization actually looks like and why it won't look the same for every child
How to support quieter kids or children who have a harder time socially
Why unstructured play still matters alongside sports, activities, and busy family schedules
How to navigate screens while still making room for real-world interaction
Why the early years of brain development matter without turning that knowledge into more pressure for parents
How simple things like talking, reading, playing, and doing life together support our kids in meaningful ways
This conversation is a reminder for working moms that helping our kids thrive doesn't have to mean adding more to the calendar or creating Pinterest-worthy childhoods. Sometimes what they need most is room to play, opportunities to figure things out, people who engage with them, and parents who are present for the ordinary moments. Because play isn't “just play.” Our kids are learning how to navigate the world through it. Connect with Amy

Episode 73: You Can Do It All...But Should You? A CEO's Perspective on Leadership and Motherhood with Beth Goff-McMillan
2026/09/24
Can motherhood actually make you a better leader?
For years, many women have been told they have to separate their personal and professional lives to succeed. But what if the very skills you're developing as a mom, emotional intelligence, resilience, adaptability, and decision-making are exactly what make you an exceptional leader?
In this episode, Denise sits down with Beth Goff-McMillan, CEO of SKG and mom of two, for an honest conversation about leadership, motherhood, and redefining success. Beth shares how raising a family strengthened her ability to lead, navigate uncertainty, and build an authentic leadership style in a traditionally male-dominated industry.
Together, they discuss:
Why motherhood can make you a stronger leader—not despite being a mom, but because of it
How to manage the invisible mental load at work and home
The leadership value of emotional labor and emotional intelligence
Building confidence without feeling like you have to lead like everyone else
Mentoring the next generation of female leaders
How Beth's definition of success has evolved throughout her career
The perspective shift that came with turning 50
Encouragement for working moms who constantly feel pulled between their careers and their families
Whether you're leading a company, a classroom, a team, or your family, this episode is a reminder that leadership isn't about having all the answers—it's about showing up with courage, authenticity, and a willingness to keep growing.
Because some of the most valuable leadership lessons aren't learned in the boardroom... they're learned around the dinner table.

Episode 72: Escaping the Motherhood Matrix: Why So Many Moms Feel Lost While Doing Everything Right with Amber Pecoraro
2026/09/17
You love your kids deeply. You’re responsible, capable, and doing everything you can to hold life together. So why does motherhood still feel so heavy sometimes?
In this episode, I sit down with Amber Pecoraro, certified life and leadership coach, founder of B’joyed Coaching, and author of Escape the Motherhood Matrix, to talk about the invisible web of guilt, overwhelm, pressure, and “never-enoughness” that so many modern moms are quietly carrying.
Amber shares her own journey as a high-achieving woman balancing leadership, motherhood, and success on the outside while feeling exhausted and disconnected on the inside. Together, we unpack what she calls the “Motherhood Matrix”, and why so many women don’t even realize they’re trapped in it.
In this conversation, we explore:
The hidden beliefs and expectations keeping women stuck in overwhelm
Why pushing harder stops working long-term
Signs a woman has lost connection with herself beyond motherhood and achievement
The difference between leading from obligation versus alignment
How redefining success can create more freedom, energy, and peace
Practical ways women can begin reconnecting with themselves again
This episode is for the mom who feels like she’s constantly giving, constantly doing, and still wondering why she feels so far from herself. Because maybe the answer isn’t becoming more. Maybe it’s finally allowing yourself to come back to who you already are.

Episode 71: WE’RE BACK: Kicking Off a New Season of Working Moms Redefined with Denise!
2026/09/10
We’ve missed you! Working Moms Redefined is back for Season 2.5, and before we jump into everything ahead, Denise is taking a minute to look back. Because this summer was full.
There were lake trips and Mexico, softball and baseball, Thursdays when Sydney babysat, more iPad time than maybe originally planned, and apparently, a decision that the Tallcotts need goats. But somewhere in the middle of all of it, Denise did something that hasn’t always come naturally: she slowed down.
In this solo episode, Denise shares an honest look at their summer: what worked, what absolutely did not, the moments she wants to remember, and the things she wants to do differently moving forward.
She talks about:
What happened when the family loosened some of its normal routines
Letting the kids have iPad time without turning it into a motherhood guilt spiral
Teaching kids that they don't need to constantly ask for the next thing
The trips, sports, ordinary days, and unexpected highlights that made up their summer
Why slowing down became one of the most important parts of the season
Looking honestly at both the really good moments and the hard ones
Why reflection matters before we immediately move on to the next season
And Denise has a challenge for you: pull out your calendar and actually look back. Look at where you went. What you did. What made you laugh. What exhausted you. What worked for your family. What didn't. What you survived. What you loved. And maybe even what you want to leave behind.
As working moms, we're really good at looking ahead to the next practice, meeting, school event, deadline, or season. But sometimes we need to stop long enough to recognize the life we've already been living. Season 2.5 starts there: not with doing more, but with noticing more.

Episode 70: Pressing Pause: Taking a Summer Break to Choose Presence Over Productivity with Denise
2026/06/04
In this special summer sendoff episode of Working Moms Redefined, Denise reflects on the past year and a half of the podcast while sharing an important decision for her family and for herself as a working mom: pressing pause for the summer season.
This episode is an honest conversation about motherhood, family priorities, overcommitted schedules and the pressure many parents feel to create the “perfect” summer for their children. Denise opens up about choosing intentional family time over packed calendars, sports camps and nonstop activities in order to create more meaningful moments at home with her children.
She shares the heart behind stepping away from the podcast temporarily, the importance of recognizing when your family needs more of you and why sometimes the healthiest decision is simply slowing down. Denise also encourages listeners to rethink summer expectations and focus less on overplanning and more on connection, simplicity and presence.
In this episode, we talk about:
☀️ Why Working Moms Redefined is taking a summer pause 🏡 Choosing family connection over constant busyness 💭 The pressure parents feel to create a “perfect” summer 🚫 Learning to say no to activities, camps and overcommitted schedules 🩵 Why children often value simple memories most 👨👩👧👦 Creating intentional family time during the summer months 🌿 The importance of slowing down as a working mom 📝 Building a summer bucket list with your children ✨ Letting go of unrealistic parenting expectations 🌸 Finding joy in everyday moments with your family
This episode is a refreshing reminder that childhood memories are often built in the small moments: bike rides, root beer floats, pool days and simply being together. Denise encourages working moms to give themselves permission to pause, simplify and embrace a summer that feels good for their family instead of one that looks impressive to everyone else.
As the podcast takes a short summer break, Denise also gives listeners a preview of exciting guests and conversations coming this fall, including topics surrounding motherhood, leadership, personal growth and family life.

Episode 69: If Only Adults Really Knew: What It’s Like to be a Teen Girl Right Now
2026/05/28
This episode of Working Moms Redefined gives listeners an honest and emotional look into what it’s really like to be a teenage girl today. Denise sits down with a group of high school juniors and seniors for a powerful conversation about teen mental health, anxiety, social pressure, school stress, friendships, sports, family expectations and the fear of failure.
These young women openly share the pressures they face balancing grades, jobs, athletics, relationships, college decisions and social expectations while still trying to figure out who they are. They discuss how anxiety in teenagers is often misunderstood, why many girls struggle to express emotions and what they wish parents truly understood about growing up in today’s world.
In this episode, we talk about:
Teen anxiety and mental health struggles The pressure teenage girls face in high school today Balancing school, sports, jobs, friendships and future plans Fear of failure, judgment, loneliness and disappointing others Why teenagers often feel unheard by adults The importance of communication between parents and teens How parents can better support teenage daughters emotionally Why listening matters more than immediately trying to “fix” problems Self-worth, people-pleasing and emotional overwhelm in teens Growing up, identity and navigating the future as a young woman
This conversation is raw, insightful, relatable and incredibly important for parents, educators, mentors and anyone raising or supporting teenage girls. It’s a reminder that behind every “attitude” or shutdown moment is often a young person carrying more emotional weight than we realize.
If you’ve ever wondered what teenagers are really thinking and feeling, this episode offers a rare and powerful perspective directly from the voices of young women themselves.

Episode 67: Supported, Informed, and Confident: A Doula’s Approach to Birth with Brittany Higgins
2026/05/14
Pregnancy and birth can bring a unique tension for high-capacity women- the desire to be prepared, informed, and thoughtful… without feeling like everything depends on getting the plan exactly right.
In this episode, I’m joined by Brittany Higgins, a doula and former labor and delivery nurse, who shares a perspective that is both empowering and deeply reassuring. Brittany helps women feel confident in their voice, supported in their decisions, and prepared for birth without being driven by fear.
Together, we talk about:
What birth advocacy really means from a doula’s perspective
The difference between being informed and feeling pressured or fearful
How the desire for control often shows up during pregnancy and birth
Ways partners and support people can help advocate during labor
Questions women can ask providers to feel more confident in their decisions
What support really looks like in the postpartum season
This episode is for the woman who wants to feel ready for birth, not because she can control every outcome, but because she understands her options, trusts her voice, and feels supported throughout the process.
Because preparation isn’t about fear- it’s about confidence, support, and knowing you are not navigating birth alone. Connect with Brittany

Episode 66: Redefining Life After Divorce with Amy Hendrian
2026/05/07
This episode with Amy Hendrian resonated with so many of you, and we wanted to bring it back.
In this conversation, we sit down with Amy, business owner and mom of three, for an honest and relatable discussion about divorce, co-parenting, owning a business, and what it means to be a full-time mom, with or without a parenting contract.
Amy shares her experience navigating the early days of divorce, the fears she carried for her kids, and how she has redefined what showing up looks like. We talk through the many “buckets” of life, from kids and work to friendships and self, and the ongoing tension of trying to be present for it all.
She also speaks to co-parenting with compassion, even when things do not align, and how she stays grounded in her identity and values while running a business and raising her kids. It is a reminder that so many moms are asking the same question, and the answer still holds true.
You’ll hear:
How she reclaims the title of “full-time mom”
What balance actually looks like today

Episode 65: More Than the Game: How Coaches Shape Confidence, Character, and Life Skills
2026/04/30
Youth sports are often about more than learning the game. They are opportunities for children to build confidence, resilience, and life skills that extend far beyond the court or field.
In this episode, Denise reflects on the powerful role coaches play in shaping not only athletic ability, but also character, communication, and courage. She shares a personal moment with her daughter Sydney, who became emotional when Denise’s coaching style felt direct and firm on the court- a reminder that growth often requires learning how to hold both encouragement and challenge at the same time.
This conversation explores how great coaches:
Build confidence by recognizing effort and celebrating progress
Teach kids how to make eye contact and communicate clearly
Encourage children to stand up for themselves respectfully
Help young athletes take initiative instead of waiting to be told what to do
Show kids how to handle correction without tying it to their identity
Create environments where mistakes become opportunities to grow
Denise also reflects on the balance between being supportive and being honest, and why lifting up the “good jobs” matters just as much as helping kids develop discipline and responsibility.
Because the lessons children learn from coaches don’t stay in sports- they shape how they show up in friendships, classrooms, leadership roles, and eventually in their adult lives.
When coaches focus on developing the whole person, the impact lasts far longer than any season.

Episode 64: Behind the Microphone: Roles are Reversed for an Unfiltered Conversation with Jeremy Tallcott
2026/04/23
What happens when the microphone turns and the host becomes the one answering the questions? In this episode of Working Moms Redefined, Denise is joined by her husband, Jeremy, for a candid, unscripted conversation that offers a deeper look into motherhood, marriage, and the mental load so many women carry.
Through thoughtful questions and honest reflection, this episode explores what it really looks like to balance work, family, and personal growth… without pretending to have it all figured out.
Together, they dive into:
The challenges of motherhood, including unlearning past patterns and navigating perfectionism
The invisible mental load many women carry and the importance of asking for help
How communication in marriage evolves, especially around expectations and support
This episode is equal parts insightful and lighthearted, with moments of humor, honesty and real-life perspective. It’s a reminder that growth happens in conversation, that support starts with communication, and that you don’t have to do it all alone.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do…is ask for what you need.

Episode 63: Stop Living in Reaction Mode: Organization, Mental Load, and Why So Many Women Feel Behind with Lisa Woodruff
2026/04/16
So many working moms feel like they are constantly behind- juggling responsibilities, managing invisible tasks, and trying to keep everything moving forward, all while wondering why it still feels so heavy.
In this episode, I sit down with Lisa Woodruff, founder of Organize 365, to talk about the real reason so many high-capacity women feel overwhelmed, and why organization is about so much more than containers, checklists, or doing more.
Lisa’s work focuses on helping busy women develop practical systems for managing home, paper, and life so they can reclaim time for what they are uniquely created to do.
Together, we explore:
Why capable women often feel like they are doing everything right but still feel behind
The hidden mental load many women carry that often goes unseen or unacknowledged
The difference between perfectionism and becoming a “woman of excellence”
Why organization is a learnable skill- not a personality trait
How creating simple systems can actually create more mental space and freedom
Lisa’s approach emphasizes progress over perfection and helps women build systems that support real life, not an unrealistic standard. This conversation is for the woman who is tired of feeling scattered, behind, or mentally overloaded and ready to create structure that actually supports the life she wants to live.
Because organization isn’t about doing more- it’s about creating space for what matters most.
