They chat about summer breaks, Jo’s birthday celebrations, Groomfest, the Liz Paul Awards, upcoming events and everything going on in grooming land. Lexi shares a few real-life experiences with difficult customer situations, including missed appointments, unhappy clients and those moments that can really knock your confidence. Jo and Lexi talk through why consultations are so important, how to ask better questions, when to request photos, and why groomers should never be afraid to clarify exactly what a client wants before starting the groom.
They also discuss matting, injuries, complaints, red flag clients, setting boundaries, taking photos, using disclaimers and the importance of being honest when something goes wrong.
A helpful and relatable episode for any groomer who has ever felt nervous dealing with clients, worried about complaints, or struggled to find the right words when a situation feels uncomfortable.

A Money Makeover for Groomers
2026/09/07
In this short episode of the Pet Groomers Community Podcast, Lexi is joined by certified money coach Fanny Snaith to talk about her My Money Makeover programme.
Fanny explains how the 8-week programme helps people understand their relationship with money, build better money habits, and start feeling more confident with their finances. Through online learning and weekly group calls, My Money Makeover looks at the practical side of money management as well as the mindset, beliefs and identity patterns that can hold people back.
Lexi also shares her own experience of doing the programme and how it has changed the way she manages both her personal and business money.
They talk about why money work is not a one-time fix, why avoiding your finances can make things harder, and how learning to manage your money properly can support you both at home and in your grooming business.
If you have ever felt anxious, overwhelmed or unsure when it comes to money, this episode is a helpful introduction to Fanny’s approach and what My Money Makeover involves.
You can find out more at www.fannysnaith.com and take Fanny’s money type quiz to get started.

Learning to Speak Client: Grooming, Marketing and Making It Work
2026/07/27
In this episode of the Pet Groomers Community Podcast, Jo Wallace is joined by Lee-Ann Wills of L. Wills Pet Spa and Sally Henwood of The Grooming Studio for a brilliant chat about the realities of running a grooming business.
Lee-Ann shares what it has been like launching her own pet spa, building a busy one-to-one environment, working with nervous and reactive dogs, grooming cats, and juggling business life alongside being a mum. Sally talks about her long career in grooming, from training in the late 90s to running her own salon, navigating quieter diary periods, price rises, marketing changes, and updating her website to attract the right clients.
Together, they discuss the importance of marketing before you need it, why social media and video can feel so difficult, and when outsourcing might be the next sensible step.
There is also plenty of grooming talk, from breed standards and hand stripping to doodles, pet trims, customer communication, and why learning to “speak client” is such an important skill. They explore how groomers can use breed profile knowledge creatively, even when customers want practical pet grooms rather than full show styles.

From Burnout to Business: Penny Burley’s Dog Grooming Journey
2026/03/16
In this heartfelt episode of the Pet Groomer Community Podcast, Lexi is joined by fellow groomer Penny Burley for an honest conversation about burnout, bravery, and building a new life through dog grooming. Penny shares how she left a long career in emotionally demanding public sector roles after reaching rock bottom, and how retraining as a dog groomer gave her the fresh start she desperately needed.
Together, Lexi and Penny talk about what it really feels like to change careers later in life, open a salon from scratch, and step away from the safety of a regular salary. Penny opens up about the fears, financial pressure, and mindset challenges she faced in those early months, as well as how mentoring, coaching, and community support helped her grow both personally and professionally.
This episode goes far beyond business. Lexi and Penny dive into self-worth, people-pleasing, money shame, journaling, burnout prevention, and learning to create a business that works for your life, not the other way round. They also share some of the books, tools and mindset shifts that have helped them feel more confident, more in control, and more deserving of success.
It’s an inspiring listen for any groomer who has ever doubted themselves, struggled with pricing, felt trapped in the wrong career, or wondered whether a better way of living and working is really possible.
