Description

You want to make a positive difference in the world. You care about the people you lead and the communities you serve. What if you could keep doing that without burning out or losing yourself along the way? The Authentic Path explores a different way to grow, lead, and make an impact without sacrificing your well-being, relationships, or connection to yourself. Because you shouldn't have to choose between success and well-being. Between science and spirituality. Between growth and rest. Between achieving more and actually enjoying the life you've worked so hard to create. Hosted by Dr. Vanessa Calderón, The Authentic Path explores how to create success that feels as good on the inside as it looks on the outside. Each week, Vanessa brings together science, psychology, spirituality, and ancestral wisdom to help you understand yourself more deeply, regulate your nervous system, move beyond burnout, heal old patterns, reconnect with your inner knowing, and create a more authentic way to live and lead. Dr. Calderón is a Harvard-trained, board-certified physician, Master Executive Coach, Neuroplasticity Trainer, and experienced leader. As a first-generation Latina, mother of two, and descendant of Indigenous healers from Mexico and El Salvador, she brings together perspectives often treated as opposites, bridging evidence-based science with the wisdom we already carry within us. This isn't about becoming less ambitious or wanting less from your life. It's about creating the success, impact, and life you want without losing yourself to get there. New episodes every week.

80. How to Build Confidence When You Don't Feel Ready: The 5 C's to Creating Lasting Success
2026/10/25
Have you ever accomplished something you worked incredibly hard for, only to find yourself wondering why it doesn't feel as fulfilling as you expected? Maybe you've built a successful career, achieved goals you're proud of, or created a life that looks wonderful from the outside. And yet, you still find yourself pushing harder, questioning whether you're doing enough, or chasing the next accomplishment. But what if creating meaningful success didn't have to feel so hard? In this episode, I'm sharing five simple principles to help you build confidence and create results that feel as good on the inside as they look on the outside. We'll explore the difference between performative success, where you're constantly trying to prove yourself, and aligned, grounded success that reflects who you are and what matters most to you. I'll walk you through Dan Sullivan's four C's of confidence: commitment, courage, capability, and confidence. I'll also introduce a fifth C that I believe makes all the difference: consistency. Along the way, I'll share personal stories from my career in medicine, lessons I've learned from my children, and why some of the most extraordinary results in life come from doing simple things consistently rather than constantly pushing harder. In this episode, you'll learn: How to build confidence even when you don't feel readyThe difference between performative success and aligned, grounded successWhy commitment, courage, and practice matter more than waiting to feel confidentHow consistency helps you create meaningful, lasting results without constantly pushing harderChapters: 00:00 The 5 C's to Build Confidence and Lasting Success 00:32 Creating Success That Feels Good on the Inside 02:15 The 5 C's for Building Confidence 03:00 Performative Success: When Achievement Feels Unfulfilling 04:16 Aligned Success: Living According to Your Values 10:12 Why Success Doesn't Have to Be So Hard 11:34 Commitment: How to Pursue Goals Without Fear of Failure 20:11 Courage: Taking Action Even When You're Afraid 24:56 Capability: Building Skills Through Practice 27:06 Confidence: How to Trust Your Abilities 29:48 Consistency: The Secret to Lasting Success34:31 How to Put the 5 C's Into Practice Resources Mentioned: Dan Sullivan, Strategic Coach and the 4 C's of Confidence https://www.strategiccoach.com/The Alchemist by Paulo CoelhoInterested in working together?https://www.calderonco.org/workwithme About me: I'm Dr. Vanessa Calderón, a Harvard-trained physician, Master Coach, and leadership expert with over 20 years of experience. 79. Let Your Feelings Guide You: How to Understand Your Emotions So You Can Make Better Decisions
2026/10/18
Have you ever faced a big decision and wished you could just know what the right thing to do was? Maybe you're questioning whether to stay in a job, make a change in your life, or walk away from something you've worked hard to build. You weigh the pros and cons, think through every possible outcome, and still feel uncertain. But what if your emotions could help you find the clarity you're looking for? In this episode, I'm exploring how to understand your emotions and use them to make better decisions. So many of us, especially high-achieving professionals, have learned to rely on logic and rational thinking while ignoring what we're feeling in our bodies. But our emotions carry valuable information, and learning to recognize them can change how we navigate difficult decisions. I'll share my personal experience of stepping away from emergency medicine for two years, even though I loved my work, and how listening to my body helped guide that decision. We'll also explore why so many of us become disconnected from our emotions, how to begin reconnecting, and why uncomfortable feelings don't always mean something is wrong. In this episode, you'll learn: How to recognize what your emotions are telling youWhy high achievers often struggle to connect with their feelingsHow to listen to your body and identify emotions without judging themHow to use your emotions to navigate difficult decisionsWhy discomfort doesn't always mean it's time to make a change Chapters: 00:15 How to Use Your Emotions to Make Better Decisions 00:27 Why Listening to Your Feelings Matters 01:49 How to Listen to Your Body and Recognize Emotional Signals 11:11 How to Reconnect With Your Emotions 17:26 Using Your Emotions to Navigate Difficult Decisions 23:48 Learning to Trust Yourself and Your Inner Wisdom Resources Mentioned: Episode 17: Emotional Mastery — How to Feel Difficult Emotions and Why It Matters for Your Success and Fulfillment https://www.theauthenticpathpodcast.com/17-emotional-mastery-how-to-feel-difficult-emotions-and-why-it-matters-for-your-success-and-fulfil/Mexodus (Live Theater Production) https://mexodusmusical.com/Interested in working together? https://www.calderonco.org/workwithme About me: I'm Dr. Vanessa Calderón, a Harvard-trained physician, Master Coach, and leadership expert with over 20 years of experience. You make a mistake, fall short of a goal, or have a difficult interaction, and suddenly your inner critic takes over. No matter how much you accomplish, it can feel like nothing is ever good enough. But what if being kinder to yourself could actually help you grow, perform better, and navigate challenges with greater confidence? In this episode, I'm exploring why self-compassion can feel so difficult, especially for high achievers who have learned to rely on self-criticism to stay motivated. We'll look at the science behind self-compassion, why our brains tend to focus on the negative, and how being hard on yourself can actually hold you back. I'll also share how practicing self-compassion changed my experience with imposter syndrome and guide you through a simple, powerful meditation to help you quiet your inner critic and begin treating yourself with greater kindness. 77. What Happens When You Finally Stop Pleasing Everyone
2026/10/04
What Happens When You Finally Stop Pleasing Everyone There’s a moment right before you say no, set a boundary, or tell someone something they may not want to hear when your whole body braces for the fallout. But what if the disappointment you’re anticipating is much bigger in your mind than it will actually be? In this episode, I’m exploring why so many of us are afraid of disappointing other people, where people-pleasing comes from, and what it costs us when we continually abandon our own needs to manage everyone else’s feelings. We’ll also look at how our nervous systems, early experiences, and sense of self-worth can make saying no feel unsafe, and how to begin making choices that are rooted in your values rather than fear. In this episode, I discuss: Why you’re so afraid of disappointing people, and why their reaction may be smaller than you expectWhere people pleasing comes from, including childhood conditioning, self-worth, and the fawn responseHow people pleasing, overcommitting, and always saying yes can lead to resentment and burnoutHow to say no without guilt and set boundaries without believing you’re selfish or letting people downHow to stop seeking approval, practice self-compassion, and make choices that are aligned with your valuesChapters: 00:00 - Why You Fear Disappointing Others 00:40 - The Roots of People-Pleasing 02:49 - Why Letting People Down Feels So Uncomfortable 05:27 - Childhood Conditioning & the Fawn Response 08:32 - The Hidden Cost of Always Saying Yes 10:43 - How to Release the Guilt 12:34 - How to Say No & Set Boundaries 20:51 - Choosing Yourself & Self-Compassion Interested in working together? https://www.calderonco.org/workwithme About me: I'm Dr. Vanessa Calderón, a Harvard-trained physician, Master Coach, and leadership expert with over 20 years of experience. 76. How to Heal Shame: Why We Feel It & How to Let It Go
2026/09/27
How to Heal Shame: Why We Feel It & How to Let It Go Shame is one of the most universal human experiences, and one of the emotions we’re least likely to talk about. Unlike guilt, which tells us we’ve done something wrong, shame can make us believe that something is wrong with us. It can keep us striving for perfection, overfunctioning, hiding parts of ourselves, and fearing what might happen if people really knew us. In this episode, I’m exploring what shame actually is, why our nervous systems developed it, and how we can begin to loosen its grip through witnessing, community, and simple practices that bring what we’ve been carrying into the light. In this episode, I discuss: The difference between guilt and shame, and why that distinction mattersHow shame affects the nervous system and our need for belonging and safetyWhy shame often shows up as perfectionism, overfunctioning, hiding, and self-criticismHow to begin healing shame through witnessing, community, and simple nervous system practices Chapters: 00:00 What Is Shame & Why Do We Feel It? 00:22 Introduction to The Authentic Path 00:35 Why Shame Is So Hard to Talk About 02:17 Guilt vs. Shame: What’s the Difference? 04:30 Why We Feel Shame: The Evolutionary Role of Shame 07:18 How Culture Shapes Shame 10:12 How Shame Affects Your Nervous System 12:42 Shame, Imposter Syndrome & High Achievers 15:13 Perfectionism, Overfunctioning & Other Signs of Shame 18:16 How to Heal Shame: The Power of Being Witnessed 20:49 Practical Tools for Healing Shame & Self-Judgment 23:27 How to Stop Letting Shame Define You Interested in working together? https://www.calderonco.org/workwithme About me: I'm Dr. Vanessa Calderón, a Harvard-trained physician, Master Coach, and leadership expert with over 20 years of experience. 75. When Wealth Feels Unsafe: Women, Money, and Power
2026/09/20
When Wealth Feels Unsafe: Women, Money, and PowerWhat if your complicated relationship with money isn’t really about money? For generations, women were legally and socially excluded from owning property, controlling their income, accessing credit, and making independent financial decisions. Although many of those laws have changed, their effects can still live within our families, communities, identities, and nervous systems. In this episode, I’m exploring the connection between money, power, visibility, and safety—and why so many smart, capable women simultaneously desire greater wealth and feel uncomfortable with what having more might mean. This isn’t about blaming the past or remaining trapped within it. It’s about understanding what our bodies learned so we can create a new relationship with wealth and power—one grounded in safety, integrity, self-trust, and conscious stewardship. In this episode, I discuss: Why our relationship with money is also a relationship with powerHow women’s historical exclusion from wealth continues to shape usWhy visibility, ambition, independence, and receiving can feel unsafeHow these patterns can appear as under-earning, over-giving, undercharging, and self-cappingHow we can expand our capacity to hold wealth, visibility, and impact without abandoning ourselves Resourced Wealth is now enrolling: Resourced Wealth is a small, intimate healing circle for mission-driven women who want to expand their capacity to hold wealth, power, visibility, and impact without abandoning themselves or burning out along the way. For many women, our relationship with money isn’t just about strategy or mindset. It can be connected to safety, survival, our nervous systems, and patterns that existed long before we were born. 67. The Courage to Choose Yourself A Conversation on Sovereignty, Self-Abandonment & Inner Peace
2026/07/26
What if burnout isn't the problem? What if it's a signal that you've slowly become disconnected from yourself? In this episode, I sit down with my dear friend Dr. Sadie Rodriguez, pediatric cardiac intensivist, physician coach, and host of the Soul Shine: The Art of Becoming podcast, for a conversation about sovereignty: the practice of staying connected to your deepest values, truth, and inner knowing. Together, we explore why so many high-achieving, purpose-driven people experience burnout, resentment, or emptiness despite outward success, and how self-abandonment often happens so gradually that we don't recognize it until we're exhausted. In this episode, we discuss: Why burnout may be a symptom of self-abandonment rather than the root problemWhat sovereignty really means and why choosing yourself isn't selfishHow integrity, authenticity, and inner peace are deeply connectedPractical ways to begin reconnecting with yourself and making choices from your own truth Timestamps: 00:00 What Is Sovereignty? 03:04 Why High Achievers Feel Burned Out 08:46 What It Means to Choose Yourself 15:31 The Hidden Cost of External Success 22:20 Is Choosing Yourself Selfish? 26:21 Why Burnout Isn't the Real Problem 30:33 Signs of Self-Abandonment 36:02 How to Build Self-Trust Again 41:13 Serving Others Without Losing Yourself 45:46 Finding Lasting Inner Peace 51:06 Coming Home to Yourself Whether you're navigating leadership, medicine, entrepreneurship, or simply trying to live with greater intention, this conversation is an invitation to pause, reconnect, and remember that you matter, too. What if the guidance you've been searching for has been available to you all along? In this solo episode, I explore what it means to connect with a higher consciousness and why this relationship has been at the heart of spiritual traditions for centuries. Through the lenses of science, spirituality, and ancestral wisdom, I share simple practices to help you cultivate greater clarity, peace, and trust in your own inner guidance. In this episode, we discuss: • What it means to connect with higher consciousness in everyday life • The science behind meditation, prayer, and nervous system regulation • Why your deepest desires may be pointing you toward your purpose • Simple practices to begin receiving more clarity and divine guidance Whether you're deeply spiritual, naturally skeptical, or simply curious, I hope this episode reminds you that you don't have to navigate life alone.
