How to Spot False Teachers: Red Flags Raised by Kathryn Krick
2026/09/29
How do you spot a false teacher when they look impressive, viral, and spiritual When an Instagram poll asked what episode to do next, one name came up about four times more than anything else. Looking her up raised a stack of red flags—claims about apostleship, healing, money, and “Spirit” manifestations that don’t sit well with Scripture or the fruit of self-control.  This episode isn’t about hunting one influencer. It’s a filter you can run on whoever shows up next—because false teachers seem to emerge every 42 seconds online, using God’s name and the Bible for selfish gain. You’ll get a clear checklist for what to throw out, what merely misguides, and the tension Paul names: even bad teachers can still put Christ’s name in someone’s ear—without that making discernment optional. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that tests every spirit and holds fast to what is true.
Missing Out On Purpose: Choosing Your Family Over the Internet
2026/09/22
You will miss out on something tonight. The only question is whether it will be the internet or your kids. Your phone offers an endless supply of reasons to look away: the group text, the funny video, the email you're waiting on, the highlight you already saw. You're watching a show with your wife and checking your inbox. Your kids are talking to you, and you don't hear them. When your son asks what you're looking at, the honest answer is nothing important. Every glance teaches your family that they're competing for your attention against people who aren't even in the room. The first husband stood silent beside his wife in the garden while something else did the talking. Passivity rarely looks like leaving; it looks like sitting on the couch with your mind somewhere else. This episode explores why falling behind on everything outside your home may be the clearest sign you're winning inside it, and why disappointing other people is a price worth paying. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that chooses presence over the pull of the screen.
Sinful Hypocrite Father: The Biblical Difference Between Sinning and Hypocrisy
2026/09/15
You lost your temper with your son last night, and this morning you're telling him not to lose his temper with his sister. Does that make you a hypocrite? Every father carries this tension. You have seen your child's internet history, but you're also aware of your own history. You have disrespected your wife, but you expect your child to honor mom. You have seen fits of rage from your teen, and can't help but see your own mistakes of anger as part of the cause. "I have lost the right to speak," says the inner voice. But that voice is lying. Hypocrisy isn't sinning, yet training your kids not to sin. Hypocrisy is acting like you don't sin at all. There is a real difference between a dad who raises his voice and circles back to repair the rupture, and a dad who ignores the damage he is responsible for. The hypocrite lets the gap between who he claims to be and who he actually is grow.  Confess you are sinner. Acknowledge your imperfection. Lean into being a father who repents in front of his children as a way of modeling confession of sin and how to receive the forgiveness of Christ. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that owns failure without surrendering the right to lead.
Obedience Isn't Optional: Wielding Authority to Produce Honor and Respect
2026/09/08
Your kids are playing in the other room. Your wife says it's time to clean up. They keep going like she never opened her mouth. You're down the hall, and you have a choice to make. Obedience isn't optional. Ignoring mom's authority isn't an allowed choice. Disrespecting dad's instructions will not be tolerated. Gentle parenting isn't about allowing your child to run all over you or choose the road of dictator. Gentle parenting goes hand in hand with calm, stern, and measured correction. Your job is not to dictate, but to disciple. There is more at stake than cleaning up the playroom or looking a parent in the eye when being spoken to. The little moments with little children are part of their discipleship of fearing the Lord and respect the authority he has placed over them.  Right now it's fearing and respecting their mom. Tomorrow it will be their teacher, or coach, or boss. In this episode we'll discuss how to swoop in and teach a child with wisdom, patience, and certainty. Our best example for how to parent our children in the middle of their disobedience comes from how the Lord parents us in the middle of our disobedience. Truth Before Comfort: Fathering Through a Confused World
2026/09/01
Somewhere between loving your neighbor and loving your own child, you have to decide who gets the benefit of the doubt when the two collide. You might believe compassion should be the default lens for anyone caught in confusion about who they are. Then you become a father, and your loves get reordered whether you want them to or not. Now every stranger's struggle competes with your child's ability to trust his own eyes. Stay silent when your child needs you to name what's real, and someone else writes the story of what's true for him. Correct too sharply, and you risk raising a kid who mistakes conviction for cruelty. This episode explores how you hold truth and compassion together instead of picking one, and why the wrong choice quietly erodes trust before you notice it's gone. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that tells the truth to your kids without losing your compassion for the world.
Love Is Not A License: God Doesn't Love You Just The Way You Are
2026/08/25
"God loves me just the way I am." Does that mean you don't have to change? Try that logic in a marriage. If a husband told his wife that he could hurt her, ignore her, or do whatever he wanted regardless of the damage, we would call that abuse. Yet men will say the same thing to God and call it permission.  Watch pornography. "God loves me the just way I am." Nursing greed. "God loves me the just way I am." Refusing to help others in need. "God loves me just the way I am." You are not receiving God's love, you are presuming on it. Yes, God loves you as you are, but he loves you too much to leave you there. He is purifying his bride, finishing a good work, growing you the way a father watches his son grow, expecting him to mature over time.  It is true that God cannot be abused by you. It is also true that God can be disappointed by you. A weaponized version of "God's love" might actually be costing you the experience of knowing the Father's love. Turn from sin, stop presuming on God's grace, and repent, asking the Lord to change you by his grace. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that receives grace without using it as an excuse to stay the same.
One Flesh Isn't a Disorder: The Psy-Op Trying to Talk You Out of Loving Your Wife
2026/08/18
Tell the internet that your wife's bad day wrecks your bad day, and some 22-year-old with a ring light will diagnose you in 30 seconds. Codependent. Case closed. This concept creep has subtly tried to rewrite what marriage is supposed to feel like. A husband who is affected by his wife's sadness gets treated like a man with a disorder instead of a man keeping his vows. Fidelity becomes pathology. Monogamy becomes childhood trauma in disguise.  Ephesians 5 tells a different story. A man leaves his father and mother and becomes one flesh with his wife, loving her as he loves his own body. Her pain becoming his pain isn't dysfunction. It's the design working exactly as intended.  More importantly, it's a window in to the heart of the creator. Real codependence exists. There is a point where care stops serving the marriage and starts feeding something else. What is that point and where does it sit? Knowing changes how you read your own marriage, and how much weight you give the next stranger who wants to diagnose it. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that treats emotional connection to your wife as strength, not a diagnosis.
Self-Care or Sloth: How to Know If You're Resting or Just Being Lazy
2026/08/11
You come home exhausted and tell your wife you need a nap. Is that wisdom or laziness? Scripture won't settle this for you. In 1 Kings 19, a man fleeing for his life gets fed and put to sleep, twice, before God says a word about his mission. Proverbs warns that a little more sleep invites poverty in like a robber breaking in at night. The Bible seems to want you standing in both truths at once. Some men will lie to themselves, calling doom scrolling and sleeping in self-care while poverty closes in. Other men are doing the opposite, grinding until he is irritable and calling exhaustion faithfulness. You can rationalize almost any rest, or any refusal to rest, and still feel spiritual about it. This conversation pushes you past whether you're tired. Are you resting from the work you were given, or resting for it? One is escape. One is stewardship. You may not be able to tell the difference alone. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that treats rest as a test of the heart, not just the body.
Eat This Book: The Lost Discipline of Reading Like a Man
2026/08/04
Ten audiobooks read counts for something, but it doesn't count as actually reading. The convenience of audiobooks allows for greater consumption with minimal comprehension. "Men don't read" is the lazy excuse everyone throws around, and I think it hides the real problem: substitution. We've traded sustained attention for background noise, convinced that half-listening while multitasking builds the same mind that full attention does. It doesn't. Multitasking is a myth, a switch between tasks dressed up as doing two at once. We live in an economy built to profit from that switching. Every app wants your eyes divided, because divided eyes are easier to sell. An ancient prophet was once told to eat a scroll, not merely hear it read. What you ingest with your whole self shapes you differently than what only passes through your ears. I make the case for a discipline most men have quietly abandoned, and why reclaiming it might do more for your mind and your faith than another hour of content ever could. Low Drama, High Stakes: The Four Things That Actually Matter in a Girlfriend
2026/07/28
You can tell in about five seconds whether you're attracted to her. You almost never ask whether she gossips, whether Jesus is actually her Lord, or whether she'd make a good mother to your kids. We've turned dating into a feelings audit: chemistry, vibes, whether she laughs at your jokes. The questions that actually predict whether a marriage survives get skipped, dismissed as too calculating or too early to ask. Attraction matters, but it's not enough. The real tell is whether she's ordering her life under someone bigger than herself, or spending her energy managing everyone else's. This episode lays out four specific, unglamorous filters for choosing who you date, the kind that never show up on a dating profile and that most men never ask until they're already in too deep. Fair warning: raising the bar shrinks the list. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that takes dating seriously enough to ask the questions attraction alone can't answer.
The Coward's Breakup: Avoiding Her Pain Costs You Your Masculinity
2026/07/21
You've felt the pull to just stop texting back. Fewer words, less confrontation, no messy goodbye. It feels like mercy. It's actually cowardice with better PR. Ghosting was never about her. It's about you, training yourself to avoid every hard conversation for the rest of your life: the colleague you need to correct, the friend you need to confront. Hard moments get harder every time you practice disappearing instead of speaking. Some guys avoid the conversation because they can't stand the pain it will cause. Others avoid it because they don't care enough to bother. We tell ourselves both are a kindness. Neither is. She is God's daughter before she is your ex, and how you end things says more about your honor than how you started them. There is a case to be made for choosing the harder conversation on purpose, the one that costs you something now so it builds something in you for good. It's not about finding the right words. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that treats hard conversations as strength training instead of something to avoid.
Proverbs 29:18 for Men: The Hidden Cost of Living Without a Plan
2026/07/14
You think your problem is discipline. It might be that you cannot picture your life in thirty years. Proverbs puts it plainly. Where there is no vision, people cast off restraint. When you cannot picture who you are becoming, the future cost of today's choices stops registering, and you default to whatever feels good right now. What's easy to miss is this: vision isn't manufactured from nothing. Like a dream at night, it's compiled from images you've actually seen, a marriage that held steady, a grandfather who stayed present, a man who finished well. If you never had those models, you're not just unmotivated. You're missing raw material. This conversation names what it actually takes to build that kind of vision, and why the older men you choose to be around matter more than any goal-setting exercise. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that treats vision as fuel for restraint, not a luxury for dreamers.
Tell Me More: Four Words to Defuse An Angry Person
2026/07/07
Someone you love is about to lose it on you. Their voice rises, their face changes, and every nerve in your body screams the same word: defend. Most men treat a loved one's big emotions like a grease fire. Smother it. Cut the oxygen. Get it to stop before it spreads. But the explosion was never the real problem. Every strong emotion is pointing at something that person loves, something they believe is under threat. Shut it down, and you confirm their worst fear, that nobody is listening. So they get louder. You get more defensive. The distance between you hardens into something neither of you meant to build. There is a posture that runs against every instinct you have, one that turns the moments you dread most into the ones that build the deepest trust. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that draws out the heart instead of shutting it down.
The Love of Money: A Biblical Framework for Money Every Ambitious Man Needs
2026/06/30
💰 Get Seth's Mastering Money Bible Study: https://sethtroutt.com/product/mastering-money-bible-study/ You can probably quote the verse. "You cannot serve God and money." But somewhere between the Sunday sermon and Monday morning, that clean line gets blurry. You're not building a golden calf. You're just trying to build a life. So how do you know when the pursuit of provision has quietly become worship, and how long has it been since you honestly asked? Here's what makes this dangerous: the shift from tool to deity never announces itself. Nobody wakes up and decides to worship money. Instead, your ethics bend one degree at a time. You stay at the job you know is crooked. You cut a corner you swore you wouldn't cut. You justify it because the mortgage is real and the kids need shoes. Money doesn't demand a blood sacrifice. It just asks you to look the other way, and each time you do, it owns a little more of you. Like carbon monoxide, the most lethal version of this has no smell. Then there's the other side, the one nobody preaches about. A rich man named Joseph of Arimathea spent a fortune on a hand-cut tomb for a crucified rabbi nobody else would claim. That tomb is the reason the resurrection story exists. Wealth aimed at something beyond itself became the stage for the most important event in human history. Which means the question isn't whether money is dangerous. It's whether you have any framework for knowing which side of that line you're standing on right now. Most men don't. Most men are carrying debt they hide from their wives, spending patterns they can't defend out loud, and a vague plan to "be generous later" that never arrives. This episode names four specific markers that distinguish money as a servant from money as a master. Miss even one of them, and you may be building a life that's quietly mortgaged to something that will never love you back. 💰 Get Seth's Mastering Money Bible Study: https://sethtroutt.com/product/mastering-money-bible-study/ Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that wields money as an instrument of generosity rather than a monument to self.
Shelter Is Good: Parents Are the Real Algorithm
2026/06/16
You won the lawsuit against Meta. Congratulations. Now who's going to win the lawsuit against you for handing your thirteen-year-old an unfiltered phone and calling it trust? The courts are finally holding tech companies accountable for products designed to addict, and that's worth celebrating. But every article cheering the verdict skips the most uncomfortable question in the room: who handed the kid the device? Revenue-driven algorithms didn't walk into your house uninvited. Someone opened the door, set the thing on the kitchen table, and walked away. Blaming Silicon Valley for your child's formation is like suing the distillery while you're the one who poured the drink. Content doesn't have to be sexually perverse to be destructive. It just has to be engineered to hold attention longer than a developing brain can regulate. And a prefrontal cortex that won't finish wiring until twenty-five has no business being left alone with a machine built to exploit exactly that gap. Sheltering your kids isn't weakness. To be unsheltered is to be impoverished. A roof is shelter. A boundary is shelter. The question isn't whether to protect but when to appropriately scale that protection down. For men who've been outsourcing the gatekeeper role to app settings and screen-time reports, this episode draws a harder line. The real regulation doesn't come from Washington or Cupertino. It comes from the man willing to be the most unpopular person in his own house. Visit sethtroutt.com for more insights on authentic masculinity that guards formation instead of delegating it to algorithms.
