Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time: Start Where You Are
2026/10/29
What if the time you have is enough to begin? With my son asleep and just 20 minutes to record, I’m taking my own advice: start where you are.
In this short solo episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re exploring how waiting for more time, confidence, or clarity can keep us from pursuing what matters. We’ll talk about the power of small steps, letting go of perfect conditions, and making room for your goals without turning every spare moment into a productivity assignment.
Plus, three coaching questions to help you take your next step. Your life doesn’t have to settle down before you begin.

Life is a workout: Know when to push, pull and rest
2026/10/22
When life feels heavy, how do you know when to push through, ask for help, or rest?
In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we explore how lifting weights offers a powerful metaphor for personal growth, building resilience, and navigating life’s challenges. Just like strength training, growing stronger in life takes consistent practice, support, and recovery.
We discuss when to take on bigger goals, when to adjust your approach, and why asking for help can be an act of strength. From setting healthy boundaries to making time for rest without guilt, this conversation invites you to build a life that supports your ambitions and your well-being.
Our Coach Yourself segment helps you identify the weight you’re carrying, recognize where you need support, and decide whether this season calls for pushing, pulling, or resting.
You don’t have to carry every weight. You get to choose how you build your strength.

Fair Doesn’t Mean Equal: How to Stop Keeping Score in Relationships
2026/10/01
Why do we assume everything must be 50/50 to be fair?
In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, Bretagne and Anike explore the important difference between fairness and equality—and why healthy relationships aren’t built by keeping score. From household responsibilities and emotional labor to parenting, careers, and family dynamics, you’ll learn how your strengths, circumstances, and personal values determine whether an arrangement is truly fair.
We also discuss how resentment can signal that an old agreement is no longer working, how to renegotiate responsibilities before frustration builds, and why a fair trade can still include sacrifice or discomfort.
Plus, use the Fair Trade Test to evaluate the exchanges in your own life:
What are you giving? What are you receiving?Does the arrangement reflect what you value? Is the imbalance temporary or ongoing? Are you choosing the trade—or quietly resenting it?Fair doesn’t always mean equal. The real question is: Does this arrangement still work for everyone involved?

Change With the Season: Finding Balance, Letting Go & Making Space for What’s Next
2026/09/24
Happy first day of fall! 🍂
In this solo episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re using the fall equinox as a reminder to pause, reflect, and check in with the season of life we’re actually in.
We’ll talk about what it really means to find balance, why letting go can be an important part of growth, and how to stop expecting yourself to operate the same way in every season of life.
If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, out of balance, stuck in an old version of yourself, or simply ready for a reset, this episode is for you.
You’ll walk away with three simple questions to help you reconnect with yourself:
What needs more balance? What are you ready to let go of?What does this season of your life need from you?
Sometimes growth isn’t about doing more. Sometimes it’s about releasing what no longer fits and trusting yourself enough to change with the season.

Stop Hesitating: How to Make Confident Decisions and Take Action
2026/09/17
Have you ever hesitated while pouring coffee—only to create the exact spill you were trying to avoid? Sometimes life works the same way.
In this solo episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, Bretagne explores the difference between thoughtful preparation and fear-based hesitation. Whether you’re considering a promotion, starting a project, having a difficult conversation or making an important life decision, there comes a point when you have to stop preparing and start trusting yourself.
You’ll learn why confidence doesn’t require having every answer, how hesitation can create the outcome you fear and why confidence is often built after you take action—not before. Bretagne also shares a simple three-step coaching exercise—Aim, Pour, Trust—to help you find clarity, prepare intentionally and execute confidently.
You don’t have to feel completely certain to move forward. You may already be prepared. It may simply be time to pour.

You’re Not Listening to Me”: How to Become a Better Listener & Communicator
2026/09/10
Have you ever been told, “You’re not listening to me,” even though you heard every word?
There’s a big difference between hearing someone and truly listening to understand them. In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re breaking down the art of active listening and why becoming a better listener can transform your relationships, communication, and ability to connect with the people around you.
We explore why so many of us listen to respond, defend, solve, or prove our point instead of listening to understand. You’ll learn how to recognize the emotions underneath someone’s words, stop interrupting, reflect back what you hear, ask better questions, and make the people in your life feel genuinely seen and understood.
We also talk about what happens when you want to listen but your brain keeps getting distracted by background noise, stress, lack of sleep, information overload, or ADHD-style attention challenges—and practical ways to quiet the noise and bring your attention back to the conversation.
In this episode, we cover:
The difference between hearing vs. listeningWhy we listen to respond instead of understandHow defensiveness and problem-solving interfere with connectionThe three levels of listeningHow to practice active listeningHow to show someone you're listening without interruptingReflective listening and clarifying questionsWhy stress, exhaustion, and distractions affect your ability to listenHow to quiet outside noise and become more presentWhy feeling heard is one of the greatest gifts we can give another personAnd in this week’s Coach Yourself segment, you’ll reflect on your own listening habits and identify one way you can become more present in your next conversation.
Because listening isn’t just a communication skill. It’s an act of respect.
Sometimes the most powerful thing you can say is nothing at all.
Just listen.

Advocating for Yourself Is Self-Care: Boundaries, Difficult Conversations & Speaking Up
2026/09/03
What if self-care isn’t always a bubble bath, a massage, or taking a day off? Sometimes the most powerful form of self-care is having the conversation you’ve been avoiding.
In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re talking about self-advocacy—how to speak up for yourself, set healthy boundaries, ask for what you need, and have difficult conversations even when they feel uncomfortable.
We explore why so many of us stay quiet to avoid conflict, rejection, disappointment, or being seen as “difficult”—and what can happen when we continually prioritize keeping the peace over honoring our own needs. Unspoken feelings don’t simply disappear. They can become resentment, anger, anxiety, exhaustion, burnout, and strained relationships.
You’ll also learn practical ways to advocate for yourself, including using “I” statements, asking for clarification, saying no without over-apologizing, asking for help, making the appointment you’ve been putting off, and holding boundaries when they’re challenged.
And remember: you don’t have to change everything overnight. Like yoga, sometimes the smallest adjustment creates the biggest opening. One honest conversation. One boundary. One request for help. One courageous “no.”
In the Coach Yourself segment, ask yourself:
Where am I abandoning myself to keep someone else comfortable? What conversation am I avoiding? What boundary needs to be created or reinforced?Where am I waiting for someone else to rescue me instead of advocating for myself? What is one small shift I can make this week?Self-care isn’t always soothing. Sometimes it’s stretching.
And sometimes choosing yourself starts with finding the courage to speak up.

Stop Asking “What’s Wrong?” Ask “What Do I Need?” | How to Understand What Your Emotions Are Telling You
2026/08/27
What if your bad mood doesn’t mean something is wrong with your life, your relationship, your job—or with you?
Sometimes, the problem isn’t that something is wrong. Something might simply be missing.
In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we explore how to stop immediately creating a story around uncomfortable emotions and start getting curious about what those feelings might actually be communicating.
Irritation might be exhaustion. Resentment might signal a need for support or stronger boundaries. Anxiety might be asking for clarity, reassurance, or safety. Loneliness can sometimes disguise itself as frustration. And procrastination? It may have more to do with overwhelm than laziness.
We’ll also explore the HALT method—Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired—and expand the question even further:
Do you need rest? Food? Movement? Quiet? Connection? Reassurance? Help? Fun? Space? Clarity? A boundary? Or maybe a conversation you’ve been avoiding?
Because feelings are often information, not instructions.
And there’s one important distinction: recognizing what you need doesn’t automatically make someone else responsible for providing it. Self-awareness gives you the opportunity to decide what you can ask for, change, communicate, or give yourself.
So the next time your mind asks, “What is wrong with me?” try asking something more useful:
What am I feeling? What might I need? And what can I do to give myself some of that today?
This episode is for anyone working on emotional intelligence, self-awareness, anxiety, overwhelm, boundaries, relationships, self-care, and becoming their own life coach.

Manifestation Without Action Is Just a Wish: What to Do After the Lion’s Gate Portal
2026/08/20
A powerful day doesn’t change your life. What you do afterward does.
The Lion’s Gate Portal may have inspired you to journal, set intentions, visualize your future, ask for signs, or get clear about what you want. But once the energy shifts and the excitement fades, a much more important question remains:
Now what?
In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we’re talking about what happens after manifestation—when intention has to become action.
Whether you believe in astrology and energetic portals or simply see them as an opportunity for reflection, the lesson is universal: your future isn’t created during one magical moment. It’s created through the ordinary choices you make afterward.
We’ll explore why motivation naturally fades, why manifestation requires participation, and how to turn your intentions into momentum through small, consistent actions. You’ll also learn how to stop endlessly searching for signs and start becoming the person capable of creating the life you’ve been asking for.
Because the universe might open the door…
but you still have to walk through it.
In this episode:
Why inspiration and motivation eventually wear offThe connection between manifestation, action, and disciplineHow to become the person your goals requireWhy tiny actions create powerful momentumWhen to stop asking for another signThree questions to help you turn intention into action todayBYOLC S2 E41

Why Is It So Hard to Admit You're Wrong? - The Freedom of Owning Your Mistakes
2026/07/30
Why do we get so defensive when someone tells us we're wrong? Why does admitting a mistake feel so uncomfortable—even when we know we messed up?
In this episode of Be Your Own Life Coach, we dive into the psychology behind accountability and explore why owning your mistakes can feel like a threat to your identity. We discuss cognitive dissonance, the role of the ego, the difference between guilt and shame, and why so many of us instinctively defend ourselves instead of simply saying, "I was wrong."
Bretagne shares a personal story about apologizing after an argument with her husband and explains how taking responsibility didn't make her weaker—it gave her freedom. Together, we'll unpack why accountability isn't punishment; it's one of the greatest forms of personal power. You'll also learn why the strongest, most confident people aren't those who are always right—they're the ones who are willing to learn, grow, apologize, and change.
In this episode, you'll learn:
Why admitting you're wrong feels like a "mini identity crisis"The psychology of cognitive dissonance and why our brains resist accountabilityHow your ego tries to protect your identity (and why that's normal)The crucial difference between guilt and shameWhy taking ownership gives you more control—not lessHow accountability builds trust, confidence, and stronger relationshipsPractical questions to ask yourself when you feel defensiveWhy saying "I was wrong" may be one of the most emotionally intelligent things you can doIf you've ever struggled with criticism, found yourself making excuses, avoided apologizing, or wanted to become more emotionally resilient, this conversation is for you.
Because growth doesn't come from always being right—it comes from having the courage to admit when you're wrong, learn from it, and become a little wiser than you were yesterday.
✨ If this episode resonated with you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who could use the reminder that mistakes don't define us—our willingness to learn from them does.
