Description

Here at The Longlist, we celebrate movies and other pop culture through the storied art of rankings. There are no wrong answers. There are no bad opinions. And hot takes are always encouraged. We love movies and we love talking about them even more. Throughout each episode we’ll dissect a given topic, be it a director, actor, genre, studio, or even just a single movie that we really want to deep dive. And the way we really break down each topic is through a series of rankings, usually in the form of a ”top five,” ranging from serious film criticism to whimsical anecdotes. And finally at the end of each episode, we have our main top five list, which we have deemed the short list. Come for the short list and stay for the long list. Nothing we say will ever be the end all be all. On the contrary, we hope it will encourage similar conversations with you and your friends. We have a lot of fun and we hope you will too.

Ep 74: Vacation Recap Wildcard
2026/10/06
Josh is back from vacation and created an episode revolving around some of his favorite aspects of the trip. And of course there are some movie lists as well. Jack was given no prep, no doc, he was just told to show up. Part of this is to give Jack a break because he held down the fort with two solo episodes (much respect), and the other part was just to keep jack on his toes with no prep. Enjoy!   Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
Ep. 73: Top 25 Uses of Weather In Movies
2026/09/30
Jack once again braves the solo pod. This week, after sharing some takes on his recent viewings of films that have come out this year, he explores the use of weather in movies. Weather can obviously occur in, or prominently affect, any film. Sometimes it's a plot point, sometimes it's a character of its own. Sometimes it just looks good. Jack gives his top 25 of whatever the weather is calling for.
Pixar
2026/09/22
Who doesn't love Pixar? Over the years, Pixar has displayed a consistent level of excellence on nearly every level of filmmaking. The studio is known for being at the forefront of digital computer animation, and rightly so, but what truly makes their movies great is the level of character development and writing they display time and time again. In this episode, Brothers Josh and Jack rank funny Pixar moments, tear jerking Pixar moments, side characters and music. And of course we give our ranking for our favorite films released by this storied studio. We stan with Pixar.   Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)

Ep 62: Sequels
2026/07/07
We're talking sequels this week on The Longlist. And for the most part, we focused on true sequels to the original movie. Not part threes or later, and not movies that were planned for a franchise from the very beginning. We didn't totally adhere to these rules, but tried our best to keep that spirit in mind.    There are lots of good and bad sequels out there, join us to see if some of your favorites made it.   Music credit: Happy and Fun Kids Jazz by Alex Productions- (Free Music Archive), (cc by-nd)
