How can I describe Brick? Chris took a wild guess in trying to find an early version of a detective mystery (definitely not early) which he hoped might inform about Rian Johnson's thoughts on the upcoming Knives Out film (nailed it here). It's out and we've watched it! Netflix has finally launched our long awaited Frankenstein film, directed by Guillermo del Toro so we're gonna talk about it! With out this week is a special guest! We're joined by film maker Eriq Ortiz, noted fan of the director and our "person who actually did the homework" by reading the book. He's an amazing addition for this episode as we look at the beautiful techniques and cinematography that went into the movie. Oh, and Nick and Chris are both here as well. We're talking about the original Frankenstein this week! del Toro has been out talking about this was his big inspiration for...everything! With this, at the very least, being the inspiration for his new Frankenstein movie we figured we'd take a look and see what all the hub bub was about. Oh! Also...Chris is tired of spooky crap so he demanded we watch Young Frankenstein. Funny! Comedy! Happiness!!! We're watching both! You can find Frankenstein (1931) on Prime Video but if you're looking for Young Frankenstein you may need to do your own bit of science to bring it back from the dead cause that thing isn't streaming anywhere. We're back with a planning episode! Hooray! On this bonus episode we talk about the new cycle and what we're going to cover with a bit of "why" involved. This cycle we're going to be covering the new Frankenstein film by Guillermo del Toro! del Toro is an amazing director (and quietly directed the best superhero film evey made) so we thought we'd check it out. To get you ready though, we're also going to discuss: 1) The Shape of Water - Guillermo del Toro's phenomenal Oscar-winning film which is pretty clearly a precursor to this film. 2.) Mary Shelly's Frankenstien - The Frankenstien film which is most people's touchstone when thinking of Frankenstien on the big screen. 3.) A double feature!!! Frankenstien (1931)/The Bride of Frankenstien -- we wanted to throw in a comedy (okay...Chris demanded we throw in a comedy) but apparently you need to watch the original to understand the jokes...so that's what we're gonna do! Hey! We finally figured it out! Thank you so much for bearing with us as we worked to figure out exactly how we wanted to move forward and whether we wanted to move forward.
