Description
Spiritual Assurance: More Than “I Hope So.” People long for assurance. We search for it, ache for it, and often live in fear without it. Many walk through life haunted by questions like, “Am I truly saved?” or “Does God still love me after what I’ve done?” These aren't just theological questions—they're deeply personal, heart-level concerns. The Chasing Assurance Podcast will bring clarity, comfort, and Biblical confidence to those who wrestle with their relationship with God. This is more than a conversation—it's an invitation to rest in the truth of the Gospel and walk in spiritual assurance.

Does Prayer Really Change Anything With God? | Chasing Assurance Ep. 67
2026/09/30
If God is all-knowing, all-powerful, and sovereign over everything, does our prayer actually make a difference? Or is everything already determined?
That’s the listener-submitted question at the heart of this episode of the Chasing Assurance Podcast. Terry Peer and Dr. Terry Peer takes us into Exodus 32, where Moses discovers Israel worshiping the golden calf. God declares judgment against the people, but Moses intercedes on their behalf—and Scripture tells us that the Lord relented concerning the judgment He had threatened.

So what does that mean for us today?
Can prayer actually affect what God does? How can God remain completely sovereign while also hearing and responding to our prayers? And perhaps the hardest question of all: What happens when we pray faithfully and God's answer is no—or His answer looks completely different from what we wanted?
This conversation explores the relationship between prayer, God's sovereignty, His timing, and our trust. We look at Moses, Jonah, Jeremiah, Jesus' teaching on persistent prayer, and the biblical call to pray according to God's will.
One of the central ideas of the episode is that prayer isn't about convincing God that our plan is better. It's about participating in what God is doing while trusting that He can see circumstances, consequences, and eternity in ways we simply cannot.
As Dr. Peer explains, sometimes God's answer may be yes. Sometimes it may be no. Sometimes it may be not now. Our challenge is learning to trust God even when His answer isn't the one we expected.
This week's Lester's Feet segment also includes prayers for the Razor family following the passing of Charles Razor and introduces Shepherd, a young boy whose family is preparing for three to five months of treatment in Boston. Lester's Feet is working to help provide temporary housing so his family can remain together throughout his treatment.
Scripture of the Week
Psalm 37:3–5 (LSB)
“Trust in YAHWEH and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. Delight yourself in YAHWEH; and He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to YAHWEH and, Trust in Him and He will do it.”

What Happens to Those Who Never Hear the Gospel? | Part 2
2026/09/23
What happens to someone who lives and dies without ever hearing the Gospel?
Study Guide Link:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fo/ekq8824jolxkqpuwv1eei/AMUULeRyoDTLtEs_FcsqdPQ?rlkey=u283p7hwwpgra5kvcvoom0vuj&dl=0
It is one of the most difficult questions Christians wrestle with, and in Part 2 of this discussion, Terry Peer and Dr. Terry L. Peer continue looking to Scripture—not simply human opinion or emotion—for the answer.
If someone has never had a Bible, never attended a church, never heard a preacher and never met a missionary, what do they actually know about God?
Dr. Peer walks through Romans 1–3 and other passages to examine the different sources of “light” available to humanity, including creation, an inherent awareness of God, moral law and conscience.
But that leads to an even more difficult question:
Do any of us actually live up to the light we have been given?
Romans 3 gives a sobering answer: “There is none righteous, no, not one,” and “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
This discussion ultimately brings us back to the urgency of the Great Commission. If the world needs Jesus, then Christians have been given a responsibility to carry the Gospel beyond our churches, communities and comfort zones.
Romans 10:14–15 asks:
“How shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?”
In this episode:
• What Romans 1 says everyone can know about God
• How creation reveals the Creator
• The difference between general and special revelation
• The “inner moral law” described in Romans 2
• How our conscience acts as an “inner umpire”
• Why having some knowledge of God does not mean we live according to it
• What “all have sinned” really means
• Jesus as the glory of God
• The balance of grace and truth demonstrated by Jesus
• The biblical state of those who remain unreached
• Why missions and evangelism still matter
• The responsibility Christians have to take the Gospel to the world
This episode also includes our weekly Lester’s Feet segment and the story of 13-year-old Ian and his family. Please join us in praying for Ian, his mother Chelsea and his younger brother as they continue traveling long distances for his medical treatment.
We also share an update on Boone Brothers and the ministry resources now available to hunters and families.
If these conversations are helping you wrestle with difficult questions of faith, share this episode with someone who may be asking the same questions.
And remember: our goal isn't simply to have an opinion about difficult questions. It is to open God's Word and discover what He has actually said.

This is one of the toughest questions Christians are asked:
What happens to someone who never has the opportunity to hear the Gospel?
After listening to Parts 1 and 2, what Scripture from these discussions helped you understand the issue more clearly?
Please keep the conversation respectful and rooted in Scripture. There are people reading these comments who may genuinely be wrestling with this question.
And please join us in praying for Ian and his family from this week's Lester's Feet segment.

What Happens to Those Who Never Hear the Gospel? | Chasing Assurance Ep. 65
2026/09/16
What happens to someone who never hears the Gospel?
It is one of the most difficult questions Christians are asked—and one that can stir strong emotions and differing opinions even within the church.
Study Guide: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/1sysdkccgkb7ozi8ym7rz/Study-Guide-Chasing-Assurance-65.pdf?rlkey=hm50tfow50klntdvjtlgkpiat&dl=0
In Season 2, Episode 13 of Chasing Assurance, Terry Peer and Dr. Terry L. Peer begin a new series tackling tough, listener-submitted questions by asking a simple but important question:
What does the Bible actually say?
Rather than beginning with emotion, tradition, or our own sense of fairness, Dr. Peer walks through Scripture to examine what the Bible teaches about God, salvation, judgment, and those who have never heard the Gospel.
The discussion begins with an essential truth: God loves the entire world. His desire is that people come to repentance and salvation. But Scripture also describes God as holy and just, and Jesus makes an unmistakably strong statement in John 14:6:
So what does that mean for someone living in a place where there is no church, missionary, or readily available Christian influence?
This episode examines passages including:
• John 3:16
• John 14:6
• Romans 1:16–20
• Romans 2
• Romans 3:10 & 3:23
• John 1
• 2 Thessalonians 1:8–10
Romans teaches that creation itself reveals something about the existence, nature, and power of God. Scripture also speaks about conscience and the knowledge of right and wrong written on the human heart.
The question isn't simply whether someone has possessed a Bible. The deeper question is why every person needs a Savior—and why the Gospel of Jesus Christ matters to the entire world.
This is Part 1 of our discussion. We will continue the question in the next episode.
LESTER'S FEET FOUNDATION
This week, Terry shares the story of a family Lester's Feet Foundation recently connected with.
A young boy named Zion has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. His mother is raising four children after losing her husband to a brain tumor last year.
As Zion's family determines the best course of treatment, Lester's Feet is coming alongside them to help remove some of the financial burdens that can accompany a medical crisis—including lost income, travel, temporary housing, and other needs that may arise while seeking the best possible care.
Most importantly, we're asking the Chasing Assurance family to pray for Zion, his mother, his siblings, his doctors, and everyone involved in his treatment.
Thank you to everyone who supports Lester's Feet and makes it possible for us to step into the lives of families during incredibly difficult seasons.
SCRIPTURE OF THE WEEK
2 Thessalonians 1:7–10
This passage reminds us of both the seriousness of judgment and the urgency of sharing the Gospel.
As Dr. Peer explains in this episode, recognizing how deeply God loves the world should motivate Christians to make the message of Jesus known.

Is Christianity Still Relevant in 2026? | Chasing Assurance #64
2026/09/09
The world has changed dramatically. Technology has changed. Communication has changed. Culture has changed. But does that mean Christianity has become outdated? In Episode #64 of the Chasing Assurance Podcast, Terry Peer and Dr. Terry L. Peer continue their discussion about the foundations of the Christian faith by asking an important question:
Is Christianity still relevant in 2026?
Study Guide: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/rbc0qlbmt69eu0p6cq5hz/Study-Guide-Chasing-Assurance-64.pdf?rlkey=dqokwouk2uw6z7a7l3wr7r1k0&dl=0
Nearly 2,000 years separate us from the earthly ministry, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. For some people, that distance makes Christianity feel ancient — perhaps even disconnected from modern life.
But being ancient doesn't make something irrelevant.
Dr. Peer explains why authentic Christianity remains just as relevant today and focuses on four foundational truths:
God is still God and is still seated on His throne.
The Bible is still ultimate truth and addresses humanity's deepest needs.
Sin is still sin, and the needs of human nature are still the same.
The Gospel is still God's answer for forgiveness, restoration and peace.
Terry also discusses the pressure churches face to constantly change in an effort to remain culturally relevant — and the danger of changing the foundation while trying to change the presentation.

Is Christianity Just an Emotional Crutch? Season 2 Episode 11
2026/09/02
Is Christianity reasonable—or is faith simply an emotional crutch people lean on when life gets difficult?
In Season 2, Episode 11 of the Chasing Assurance Podcast, Dr. Terry L. Peer and Terry Peer begin a two-part discussion examining whether Christianity actually makes sense.
Christianity certainly involves emotion. It brings comfort, encouragement, fellowship, joy, and hope. But authentic Christianity goes much deeper. Following Jesus isn't a mindless faith. It engages the heart, soul—and the mind.
As Dr. Peer explains in this episode:
“One doesn’t have to be a scholar, but he does have to be a student.”
Using Scripture and a simple C-H-R-I-S-T framework from David Faust, we look at several reasons Christians can have confidence in the Bible and the Christian faith:
C — Claims
H — Historical Accuracy
R — Remarkable Style
I — Indestructibility
S — Scientific & Prophetic Accuracy
T — Total Unity
We also discuss the difference between emotional experiences and a faith rooted in truth, why Christians should become serious students of Scripture, and why truth sometimes becomes uncomfortable when it challenges what we already want to believe.
KEY SCRIPTURE:
“All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.”
— Psalm 119:160 NIV
This episode lays the foundation for several deeper questions we'll tackle in the weeks ahead.

Why Follow Jesus? 5 Reasons He Is Unlike Anyone Else | Chasing Assurance
2026/08/26
What does it really mean to be a follower of Jesus?
Being a Christian is more than attending church, reading the Bible, or simply using the word “Christian” to describe ourselves. Jesus gave a very personal invitation: “Follow me.”
In this episode of the Chasing Assurance Podcast, Terry Peer and Dr. Terry L. Peer explore what it means to genuinely become a **Christ follower**—to answer His call, embrace His values, live according to His teachings, and build our lives on the foundation He provides.

Then we tackle an even bigger question:
Why Jesus? Why should we choose to follow Him?
Dr. Peer shares five powerful reasons Jesus stands apart as our:
• Teacher
• Example
• Savior
• Lord
• Friend
Jesus doesn't simply stand at a distance and tell us how to live. He entered our world, experienced humanity, went to the cross in our place, conquered the grave, and promises to walk with us through life.
Scripture of the Week — 1 Peter 2:21
“To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.”

Does Your Life Show That You Know Jesus? | Chasing Assurance Ep. 61
2026/08/19
Can people tell that you have been with Jesus?
In Acts 4:13, Peter and John stood before the religious leaders as ordinary, unschooled men. Yet there was something unmistakable about them. Their courage, their conviction and the way they lived caused those watching to recognize one thing:
**These men had been with Jesus.**
Study Guide Link:

In Episode 61 of the Chasing Assurance Podcast, Terry and Dr. Terry Peer record in front of a live audience as they conclude their four-part series on worship.
Worship isn't confined to a church building, a song or one hour on Sunday morning. Hebrews 13 calls us to offer God a **continual** sacrifice of praise. Our worship carries into our work, our relationships, our conversations, our decisions and the way we respond when life gets difficult.
And people notice.
This episode asks some challenging questions:
• Does the way we live show our devotion to Jesus?
• What conclusions are people drawing from our lives?
• Who is influencing us the most?
• Are we influencing others toward Christ—or are they pulling us away from Him?
• Would someone watching our life say, “That person has been with Jesus”?
We don't have to be perfect. But our lives should point people toward something—and Someone—greater than ourselves.
**Scripture discussed:**
Acts 4:12–24
Hebrews 13:15

Is Your Worship Really About God? | Personal Worship | Chasing Assurance Ep. 60
2026/08/12
What does personal worship really look like?
And maybe an even harder question:
Are we worshiping God—or are we worshiping our experience with God?
In Episode 60 of the Chasing Assurance Podcast, Terry Peer and Dr. Terry L. Peer continue their four-part series on worship by turning the focus inward to personal worship and intimacy with God.
This conversation explores the difference between corporate and personal worship, why Christians need both, and how our private time with God can reveal what we truly believe worship is about.
Dr. Peer also introduces the teaching of Don DeWelt, whose work Intimacy With God influenced generations of Christians in developing a disciplined personal worship life.
They discuss practical ways to build that relationship with God through:
• Praise
• Confession
• Thanksgiving
• Petition
• Intercession
• Prayer
• Scripture
• Journaling
• A consistent time and place with God
But underneath all of those practices is a much bigger question:
Is my worship first and foremost pleasing to God—or am I judging worship by what I get out of it?
Jesus said:
“When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
— Matthew 6:6
This episode is an encouragement—and a challenge—to intentionally create space for a deeper, more personal relationship with God.

Do We Worship God—or Our Experience With God? | Real Worship Part 2
2026/08/05
When we hear the word “worship,” what immediately comes to mind?
Is it music, singing, a church service, a favorite hymn, a modern worship song, or the way a particular experience makes us feel?
Those things may be part of worship, but biblical worship is much bigger than a musical style, an emotional response, or a Sunday morning experience.
In Part 2 of our series on worship, Dr. Terry L. Peer and Terry Peer examine a difficult but necessary question:
Do we worship God—or do we worship our experience with God?
What happens when worship becomes focused on our preferences, feelings, comfort, or satisfaction? How do we move from worship that is centered on ourselves to worship that is truly centered on God?
Hebrews 13:15 describes worship as a continual sacrifice of praise offered to God through Jesus. That language matters. An offering and a sacrifice are not self-serving. They involve giving something to the One who alone is worthy.
In this episode, we discuss:
• What the Bible means when it speaks about worship
• Why worship is more than singing or music
• The difference between a worship experience and a worship opportunity
• How worship can become mechanical or insincere
• Preparing our hearts before corporate worship
• Evaluating worship by God’s glory instead of personal preference
• Becoming active participants rather than spectators
• Worshiping the Father in spirit and truth
The question is not simply, “Did I enjoy worship?”
The greater question is:
Was God honored, glorified, and pleased by what I offered Him?
“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.”
—John 4:24

WHO ARE YOU WORSHIPING? Chasing Assurance Podcast S2 EP6
2026/07/29
For many Christians, worship has become something we evaluate by how it makes us feel.
But is that really what worship is?
In this episode, Terry Peer and Dr. Terry L. Peer begin a brand-new series by asking one of the most challenging questions every believer should wrestle with:
Do we worship God... or do we worship our experience with God?
Together they explore:
What the Bible actually means by "worship"
Why worship is about God's worthiness—not our feelings
How preferences can quietly become idols
Whether we've confused emotional experiences with genuine devotion
Why Jesus said true worshipers worship in spirit and truth
This conversation isn't about criticizing musical styles, church traditions, or worship formats. It's an invitation to examine our own hearts and ask whether God is truly the object of our worship.
Key Scripture: John 4:24

When sickness comes...
When tragedy strikes...
When prayers seem unanswered...
When it feels like heaven is silent...
Psalm 42 was written for moments exactly like these.
In this episode of Chasing Assurance, Terry and Dr. Terry Peer explore one of the most comforting passages in Scripture as they discuss how God often seems silent during our deepest valleys—but He is never absent.

• Why faithful Christians experience dark seasons
• The incredible story behind the Sons of Korah
• What Psalm 42 teaches about discouragement
• Why our souls become "downcast"
• How to find hope when life doesn't make sense
• Why God's silence is not God's absence
• Practical encouragement for anyone facing illness, grief, depression, or uncertainty
If you're walking through one of life's difficult seasons—or know someone who is—this episode is for you.

David Was a Great King... But a Terrible Father? | Chasing Assurance - Season 2 Episode 3
2026/07/08
David defeated Goliath. He united Israel. He wrote many of the Psalms.
Yet behind the victories was a family filled with heartbreak, rebellion, abuse, and broken relationships.
In this episode of Chasing Assurance, Dr. Terry L. Peer and Terry Peer take an honest look at one of the most difficult chapters in David's life. They explore how even a man described as "after God's own heart" made decisions that had devastating consequences inside his own home.
This episode also reminds every parent that while we cannot control every decision our children make, we are called to lead our homes with courage, conviction, and biblical truth.
You'll also hear an update from Lester's Feet Foundation as they share Benjamin's story and ask for prayer as he prepares for another major heart surgery.

Why David Was Called a Man After God's Own Heart (Even Though He Failed) Season 2 Ep. 2
2026/07/01
David wasn't perfect.
He failed... sometimes in dramatic and heartbreaking ways.
Yet God called him "a man after My own heart."
What made David different?
In this episode of Chasing Assurance, Dr. Terry Peer and Terry Peer explore one of the greatest qualities of David's life—not his victories, but his heart. Through the Psalms, David teaches us what genuine worship looks like, how to approach God honestly, and why God values a surrendered heart over outward perfection.
Topics include:
• Why David wrote so many Psalms
• Worship that comes from the heart
• David's prayers, music, and poetry
• The prophetic Psalms pointing to Jesus
• Psalm 23, Psalm 51, Psalm 110 and more
• Why God uses imperfect people
• How authentic worship changes our relationship with God
If you've ever felt unworthy because of your failures, this episode is a reminder that God isn't looking for perfection.
He's looking for hearts that belong to Him.

What If Christians Actually Loved Like This? Chasing Assurance #52 Season 1 Finale
2026/06/17
As we close out Season 1 of the Chasing Assurance Podcast, we finish our study on one of the most important subjects in all of Scripture—love.
In this episode, Dr. Terry L. Peer takes us deep into 1 Corinthians 13 and explains why biblical love (agape) is far more than emotion, sentiment, or feelings. True Christian love is demonstrated through patience, kindness, sacrifice, forgiveness, obedience, and action.
We also look ahead to Season 2, where we'll begin an exciting journey through the life of King David—one of the most fascinating and relatable figures in all of Scripture.
Thank you for joining us through the first 52 episodes of Chasing Assurance.
