Emma Ruth Rundle is a musician and artist who has just released These Killing Times, an exquisite new record with a cast of characters that is large-sounding, intricate, provocative and emotional. Emma redefined heaviness for her longtime pal Becky Laverty, co-booker of the iconic Roadburn Festival, way back in 2017 when her solo show at the festival brought the house down. Nine years later, Becky has been an intimate part of the making of These Killing Times, and has recently launched a new zine called Slowpoke, sharing untold stories from exceptional visual artists and musicians.  In this expansive conversation, we discuss the pair's close friendship, the birth of the record, the role of feminine rage, what makes Roadburn Festival so special, the role of community in the flourishing of heavy music, the creative process, and lots more.
