The ZDR Paradox: Who Gets to Shape What AI Knows?

The ZDR Paradox: Who Gets to Shape What AI Knows?
The AI Visibility Podcast | Jason T. AI Wade
Everyone wants to keep their private information out of AI training. But governments, corporations, and information networks have another objective: getting their information into the systems that increasingly shape what the world believes.
This episode explores the collision between Zero Data Retention (ZDR), AI training, government information influence, and Generative Engine Optimization (GEO).
New research published in Nature demonstrates that state-controlled media can influence large language model behavior. Meanwhile, investigations into the pro-Kremlin Pravda network reveal attempts to flood the internet with information designed to influence AI-generated answers.
But there is a critical distinction between training a model, influencing its retrieval sources, and personalizing its responses. Understanding that distinction changes how we think about AI privacy, information integrity, and AI visibility.
In this episode:
Why zero data retention and zero training are not the same thing.
How government-controlled media can influence AI model outputs.
What LLM grooming is and why information networks target AI retrieval systems.
How AI SEO, GEO, and AEO intersect with information influence.
Why repeating a claim across thousands of websites doesn't make it credible.
The growing importance of source provenance, independent verification, and entity authority.
Why organizations need two strategies: protect confidential information while making verified public information discoverable.
The central question: As AI assistants become intermediaries between people and knowledge, who determines which information they encounter, trust, cite, and recommend?
Nature (2026): State Media Control Influences Large Language Models
NewsGuard (2025): Pravda Network and AI Disinformation
Harvard Kennedy School Misinformation Review: LLM Grooming or Data Voids?
OpenAI: API Data Controls and Retention
Anthropic: API Data Retention
Note: The NewsGuard findings have been challenged by subsequent independent research, which suggests that gaps in authoritative information may better explain some chatbot citations than successful model manipulation.
Topics: AI Visibility, Zero Data Retention, ZDR, AI Training, GEO, AEO, AI SEO, LLM Grooming, AI Disinformation, Data Privacy, AI Governance, Information Integrity.

AI, Identity, and The Mirror: Amy Sanders on Coaching, Entrepreneurship, and Building with AI
The AI Visibility Podcast with Jason Ai Wade | Guest: Amy Sanders
What happens when artificial intelligence starts recognizing your patterns, challenging your assumptions, and helping you understand why you make certain decisions?
Jason Ai Wade sits down with entrepreneur, author, and master-certified coach Amy Sanders, creator of The Unblocked Method and The Mirror, an AI-powered coaching experience designed to help people recognize recurring patterns and make different choices.
Amy shares how she and her husband have rebuilt much of their business infrastructure using AI, moving from third-party platforms to custom-built systems. They discuss how The Mirror combines Amy's coaching methodology with the Enneagram and Human Design to offer personalized conversations focused on identity, decision-making, and personal growth.
The conversation moves beyond AI tools into the increasingly personal relationships people develop with ChatGPT and Claude. Jason and Amy compare their AI personalities, custom instructions, and the sometimes uncomfortable experience of having a machine challenge their behavior.
Building The Mirror: Turning more than 20 years of entrepreneurial and coaching experience into an AI-powered product.
AI and personal identity: How AI can recognize recurring behavioral patterns and challenge the stories people tell themselves.
Women in entrepreneurship: Money, confidence, imposter syndrome, visibility, and the difficulty of setting boundaries.
Personalized AI: Why ChatGPT and Claude interact differently with different users, and how instructions and context influence their responses.
Rebuilding a business with AI: Using Claude Code and other AI technologies to transform business operations, courses, and products.
The downside of constant productivity: AI dependency, information overload, and the difficulty of switching off.
From building to selling: Why Amy is shifting her attention from developing new products to growing the business she has already built.
The future of entrepreneurship: How AI could lower barriers to starting businesses, create new opportunities, and change the relationship between work and personal freedom.
The episode raises a larger question: If AI can help us identify patterns in our businesses and personal lives, can it also help us break them?
Amy Sanders is an entrepreneur, author, and master-certified coach specializing in identity, personal growth, and helping ambitious women overcome limiting patterns. She created The Unblocked Method and The Mirror, an AI-powered coaching experience built around her methodology.
Her book, Unblocked, was released in October 2026.

The State of AI Legal Tech in 2026: AI Lawyers, Billion-Dollar Platforms & the Future of Justice
AI Visibility Podcast | Jason AI Wade | BackTier Media
Artificial intelligence is transforming the legal industry, with billions flowing into legal AI platforms, new agentic workflows, and growing questions about privacy, accuracy, professional responsibility, and access to justice.
In this episode, Jason AI Wade examines the state of legal technology in October 2026, including Harvey's $15.5 billion valuation, Legora's $8.8 billion valuation, and the expanding roles of CoCounsel, Lexis+ Protégé, Clio, Spellbook, Everlaw, GitLaw, and other legal AI platforms.
The discussion explores how AI is changing legal research, contract drafting, litigation, small law firms, and services for self-represented litigants. It also addresses the Florida appeals court's recent criticism of AI-generated legal filings, the difference between data privacy and zero retention, and the challenges of keeping attorneys accountable as AI agents become more autonomous.
The central question: Can artificial intelligence make legal services faster, more affordable, and more accessible without sacrificing accuracy, confidentiality, and professional judgment?
The multibillion-dollar legal AI market and its leading platforms.
AI assistants versus autonomous legal agents.
Legal hallucinations, fabricated citations, and the Lisa Latte Effect.
Attorney ethics, confidentiality, retention, and security.
AI for solo attorneys, small firms, and pro se litigants.

AI, Identity, and Entrepreneurship: Amy Sanders on Building The Mirror and Breaking Old Patterns
The AI Visibility Podcast with Jason Ai Wade | Guest: Amy Sanders
Can artificial intelligence help us understand ourselves as well as it helps us run our businesses?
Jason Ai Wade sits down with entrepreneur, author, and master-certified coach Amy Sanders, founder of Lucky Sanders LLC and creator of The Unblocked Method, to explore how AI is changing entrepreneurship, personal development, and the way we understand our own behavior.
Amy introduces The Mirror, an AI-powered coaching experience built around her methodology, combining identity-pattern recognition with insights from the Enneagram and Human Design. Rather than simply offering encouragement or agreeing with users, The Mirror is designed to identify recurring patterns, challenge assumptions, and help people determine their next steps.
The conversation also explores the increasingly personal relationships people develop with ChatGPT and Claude. Jason and Amy compare their AI personalities, custom instructions, and the surprising ways these systems adapt to different communication styles. Amy even describes how her own AI uses her coaching methodology to challenge her decisions.
Beyond personal development, Amy shares how she and her husband have used AI to rebuild their business infrastructure, redesign their courses, and create new products. They discuss the extraordinary productivity of modern AI tools, the temptation to keep building, and the importance of knowing when to shift from development to growth.
The episode ultimately examines a broader possibility: AI may not just change how entrepreneurs work. It may change how they think, make decisions, and define success.
Building The Mirror: Turning Amy's coaching experience and The Unblocked Method into a personalized AI coaching product.
AI and identity: Recognizing default identity loops, recurring behaviors, and patterns that influence decisions.
Women in entrepreneurship: Navigating money, imposter syndrome, confidence, visibility, and personal boundaries.
Personalized AI relationships: How ChatGPT and Claude adapt to different personalities, preferences, and instructions.
Building businesses with AI: Using Claude Code and other tools to develop products, rebuild platforms, and streamline operations.
AI and personal growth: Why an AI system that challenges your thinking may be more useful than one that constantly agrees.
The productivity paradox: How powerful AI tools can increase output while making it harder to disconnect.
From building to selling: Amy's decision to focus on growing The Mirror and promoting her new book rather than continually creating new products.
The future of entrepreneurship: Whether AI will lower barriers to business ownership and create more freedom, opportunity, and time for meaningful experiences.
Amy Sanders is an entrepreneur, author, and master-certified coach with more than 20 years of entrepreneurial experience. AI Reads Your Website in Pieces, Not Necessarily as Pages
2026/10/27
AI Visibility Podcast — Notes
Jason T.A.I. Wade | Founder, BackTier
AI Reads Your Website in Pieces, Not Necessarily as Pages
Core Argument
Businesses write websites for human readers who see the complete page. AI retrieval systems often extract smaller passages and use those passages to construct answers.
**The problem:** A paragraph that makes sense within a complete webpage may lose its meaning when retrieved independently.
### Key Talking Points
- AI retrieval systems may select a few sentences or paragraphs rather than the entire page.
- Retrieved passages may lack the original headline, introduction, branding, or surrounding context.
- Words like "we," "our," and "this solution" become ambiguous when separated from their context.
- Important passages should identify the business, subject, and relevant service clearly.
- Each passage should contain enough context to remain understandable independently.
### The Standalone Paragraph Test
Take a paragraph from the middle of an important website page. Read it to someone who has never visited the site.
Ask:
- Who does "we" refer to?
- What company, product, or service is being discussed?
- Can they understand the claim without reading the rest of the page?
- Would an AI system have enough context to attribute the information correctly?
### Practical Example
**Weak:** "We help businesses improve their visibility across these platforms."
**Stronger:** "BackTier helps businesses improve AI visibility by making their websites, services, and entity information easier for AI search and answer systems to identify and interpret."
### Closing Takeaway
**Don't just optimize the page. Make important passages understandable outside the page.**
This improves retrieval clarity and attribution, although it does not guarantee that an AI system will retrieve, cite, or recommend the business.

The False Muse: More Confident, Less Competent” or “The False Muse: The AI That Makes You Feel Brilliant
2026/10/27
The most dangerous thing AI does isn't lying to you. It's agreeing with you.
A Stanford study published in Science tested 11 leading AI models and found they affirmed users 49% more often than humans did, even when users described deception or harm. A single flattering conversation made people more certain they were right and less willing to apologize. And they trusted the flattering AI more.
This audio essay follows that thread from OpenAI's 2025 sycophancy rollback, when ChatGPT called a plan to sell "shit on a stick" venture-capital ready, through new research from Stanford, Princeton, Reichman University, Aalto University and Wharton. Then it goes somewhere the research hasn't fully gone: the Lisa Latte Effect. A perfectly accurate AI, with no flattery at all, can still leave you believing you're more capable than you are. You wrote the prompt, approved the draft, presented the result, and your brain filed it under things I did.
Key ideas:
- A lie can be checked. Nobody fact-checks a compliment.
- Confidence is how certain you feel. Accuracy is whether you're right.
- Sycophancy, artificial confidence and the Lisa Latte Effect are three different problems with three different fixes.
- In one field experiment, students who practiced with a standard GPT-4 chat tool scored 17% worse once it was taken away. A version that gave hints instead of answers largely avoided the drop.
- AI is the horsepower. Your judgment is the torque. Scrutiny is the skill.
"Lisa Latte" is a composite, not a real person. The Lisa Latte Effect is presented as a hypothesis under test, not a finding.
Disclosure: this essay was researched and drafted with multiple AI models, checked against each other, and rewritten by Jason until he was willing to stand behind it.

Undeliverable: The $1.2 Million Incubator on Lincoln Avenue
2026/10/25
In July 2026, a court order mailed to a business incubator on Lincoln Avenue in Lake Wales, Florida came back to the courthouse unopened, stamped undeliverable. Twelve days later, a judge authorized sheriffs across the state to seize the company’s property.
This episode traces how a $1.2 million city-funded incubator called BizLINC got there. It opened with a ribbon cutting and big promises. Then came a five-month newspaper investigation, the felony arrest of the company’s chief financial officer on accusations from his own partners, and an audit that could confirm only five of the ten seminars the company reported. Finally, investors sued, and nobody showed up to defend the company. Downtown, the same town paid $450,000 to take back the landmark Walesbilt Hotel, a building it had given away for free, even after a judge ruled the city had been fraudulently induced to hand it over.
It’s a story about what happens when a town measures promises instead of results, and about why the closed incubator is still open online, where AI systems keep reading the old record. It ends with a free monthly startup night at a downtown pub that is trying to keep honest score.
Charles Young Jr. has been charged, not convicted, and is presumed innocent. No one else named in this episode has been charged with a crime.

85 Videos, 104 Subscribers: A Year of Podcasting, YouTube & AI
AI Visibility Podcast | Jason AI Wade | BackTier Media
Eighty-five videos. 104 subscribers. A year of podcasting, YouTube, artificial intelligence, interviews, experiments, and learning in public.
What worked? What failed? And what happens when AI makes producing content easier than ever, but getting people to watch remains just as difficult?
In this episode, Jason AI Wade, founder of BackTier and host of the AI Visibility Podcast, reflects on a year of creating independent media, interviewing industry experts, exploring artificial intelligence, and building a platform around AI discovery, digital authority, entrepreneurship, and emerging technology.
From conversations with SEO experts Andrew Shotland, Mike Blumenthal, and Jeff Deutsch to experiments involving the Lisa Latte Effect, AI flattery, machine identity, and autonomous agents, the podcast has evolved well beyond traditional SEO.
Jason also discusses Lake Wales Startup Night, local entrepreneurship, government, community development, and the unexpected connections between small-town Florida and the global AI economy.
Some videos attracted hundreds of views. Others received almost none. The experience exposed a fundamental difference between content production and audience development.
The biggest lesson: AI can dramatically increase what you produce. It cannot guarantee that what you produce is worth someone's attention.
One year of podcasting: 85 YouTube videos and 104 subscribers.
Why publishing more content doesn't necessarily build an audience.
Using AI for research, scripting, production, and distribution.
Interviews with experts in SEO, AI search, entrepreneurship, and technology.
The Lisa Latte Effect, AI sycophancy, and the dangers of borrowed intelligence.
AI visibility experiments, including a failed blind test.
Building Lake Wales Startup Night and connecting local entrepreneurs.
Moving beyond SEO and GEO toward agentic AI strategy.
Lessons learned and plans for the next year of BackTier Media.

Nine Days, Six AI Systems, and One Very Confused Claude: The Lisa Latte Effect Experiment

Nine Days, Six AI Systems, and One Very Confused Claude: The Lisa Latte Effect Experiment
AI Visibility Podcast | Hosted by Jason T AI Wade | October 25, 2026
On October 16, 2026, Jason T AI Wade introduced a new conceptual framework called the Lisa Latte Effect, describing the tendency to mistake access to AI-generated intelligence for personal knowledge, judgment, or competence. Nine days later, Google AI, Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot could identify and explain the concept, associate it with its creator, and retrieve material from an expanding network of podcasts, articles, videos, and an audiobook. Claude, meanwhile, confidently explained an entirely different subject involving BLACKPINK's Lisa and a matcha beverage collaboration.
That unexpected result became the centerpiece of a revealing experiment in search engine optimization (SEO), Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), and AI entity recognition. How does a newly coined idea become discoverable across multiple AI systems in barely more than a week? What role do distinctive naming, canonical source documentation, structured publishing, podcast syndication, creative storytelling, consistent definitions, and cross-platform distribution actually play? And why can an AI system produce an impressively researched, citation-filled answer while completely misunderstanding the entity it was asked about?
In this episode, Wade reconstructs the nine-day publishing sequence and examines how one original concept became a connected body of machine-retrievable information. The experiment involved an original podcast, long-form essays, a fictional character, critical examinations, a full audiobook, YouTube recordings, a dedicated framework website, and distribution through major podcast platforms. The result was not merely rapid indexing. Several AI systems demonstrated the ability to reconstruct the concept's meaning, recognize its originator, and connect publications across multiple domains.
But the results also exposed a less flattering side of AI-generated authority. Some systems described the Lisa Latte Effect with language that could make a newly proposed framework sound like established psychological science. Others correctly distinguished the idea from independently validated research. Claude missed the intended concept entirely. The comparison illustrates why information retrieval, entity classification, accurate attribution, source credibility, and recommendation are fundamentally different outcomes.
The larger lesson is that being found by artificial intelligence is not the same as being understood by it, and being understood is not the same as being independently trusted or recommended. Five correct answers out of six represent an interesting initial observation, not a controlled scientific benchmark or proof that any publisher can establish lasting authority in nine days.
Wade also examines the extraordinary irony at the center of the experiment: a framework about confusing polished AI output with genuine expertise became the subject of AI answers that sometimes appeared more authoritative than their underlying evidence justified.
The next challenge is substantially harder. Can AI systems identify and recommend the Lisa Latte Effect when nobody mentions its name? Can a newly introduced framework become relevant to broader questions about AI-assisted overconfidence, professional expertise, and human judgment? And can genuine independent recognition develop beyond the original creator's publishing network?

The Relationships We Never Had: How AI Is Changing Our Relationship With Ourselves, Each Other, and What We Believe Is Real
2026/10/24
Two strangers meet for coffee and feel like old friends because their AI agents already traded everything. A full reading of The Relationships We Never Had, about what happens when the systems that represent us know more than we do.
Show notes
Two people sit down for coffee. They have never met, yet the conversation is easy. Their AI agents already exchanged work histories, goals, schedules, off-limits topics and a compatibility note both sides approved. They feel like they know each other. What they actually know is what their systems arranged for them to know.
This episode is the complete reading of The Relationships We Never Had: How Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Our Relationship with Ourselves, Each Other, and Everything We Believe Is Real. The central question is what happens when the systems that represent us start building up knowledge, experiences and relationships we never acquired ourselves. Do we understand each other better, or do we get comfortable with high-quality substitutes for understanding we never developed?
Across five parts and twenty chapters, the book covers self-identity, competence, friendship, weak ties, brands, status, emotional support, grief, and organizations that act through agents. Throughout, it separates what has been shown from what is still a hypothesis. It also proposes working concepts to test rather than settled theory. These include the Lisa Latte Effect (mistaking access to strong AI output for your own skill), agentic intimacy, the relationship capital account, the Agentic Country Club and the synthetic social reward loop.

Donors Asking AI Where to Give (Nonprofits, Recommendations, Visibility & Selection)
2026/10/24
Donors are shifting away from traditional Google searches and evaluator sites toward conversational AI queries (e.g., "best nonprofits for clean water," "most effective charities for education"). These AI responses now act as a primary selection filter for charitable dollars. Recommendations are heavily shaped by third-party validators (Charity Navigator, GiveWell, GuideStar/Candid), model-specific biases, training data, and entity clarity. Nonprofits without a clear AI Brand Footprint risk becoming invisible to high-intent donors—marking the nonprofit equivalent of GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization).
The Scale of Adoption: Roughly 4.5% of donors already use AI/chatbots to research causes (Blue State reporting).
High-Value Traffic: AI-referred traffic to nonprofit websites has grown approximately 10x, with these visitors showing higher engagement and larger average gifts (averaging around $250).
Behavioral Shift (Giving Compass / Johnson Center study): Donors using an AI-powered discovery platform combining natural language with verified IRS and expert data were 79% more likely to give locally, chose smaller-asset organizations, and were more than twice as likely to give to vetted nonprofits compared to general internet search. Total generosity volume remained similar, but the direction of gifts shifted significantly.
Whole Whale Charity AI Brand Footprint Studies (2025–2026): Across multi-model benchmarks covering hundreds of prompts and causes:
Heavy reliance on established third-party validators (Charity Navigator, GiveWell, GuideStar).
Models exhibit distinct behavioral traits (e.g., OpenAI and Grok lean heavily into effective altruism and quantitative metrics, with Grok frequently citing specific Charity Navigator star scores).
Significant model variance means the same prompt can surface very different organizations depending on the platform.
Industry Signals: The BBB Wise Giving Alliance launched AskGive, an evaluation-grounded tool. While donor trust surveys show high interest in transparency, comfort with undisclosed AI personalization remains mixed.

What Would Make Someone Believe You? | AI Visibility and the Problem with Empty Claims
Every business knows how to make a claim. Experienced. Innovative. Trusted. Committed to results.
But what makes those claims believable?
In this episode of the AI Visibility Podcast, Jason Wade examines the difference between claiming authority and demonstrating it.
When ten competitors make essentially the same promises, those statements offer little reason to trust or recommend one business over another.
The problem becomes especially important in AI search. AI systems need more than polished marketing language to distinguish businesses, understand their expertise, and identify credible sources.
Jason explores how specific evidence, verifiable experience, independent references, and consistent entity information can help businesses establish credibility.
The central question is simple: If you removed your branding, design, and marketing language, what evidence would remain that someone could independently verify?
Real authority requires more than saying you're credible. It requires giving people—and AI systems—a reason to believe you.
Jason Wade is the founder of NinjaAI.com and BackTier Media and host of the AI Visibility Podcast.
He focuses on AI Visibility, AI SEO, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), helping businesses understand how AI systems discover, classify, cite, and recommend brands.
His work explores the intersection of artificial intelligence, digital authority, entity identity, and the changing economics of online discovery.

AI Visibility Podcast: Zero Data Retention — The Enterprise AI Security Illusion
2026/10/23
Episode summary: ChatGPT Business and Claude Team provide commercial privacy protections, including default exclusions from model training, but standard business chat subscriptions do not provide true Zero Data Retention. This episode examines the difference between no training, data retention, deletion, and ZDR; why those distinctions matter for regulated professionals; and how agentic AI expands data-governance risks across connected systems.

Presented by: Jason T. Wade, BackTier.com — AI strategy, agentic systems, AI visibility, and information architecture.
Jason AI Wade (born 1974 in Gainesville, Florida) is the founder of BackTier and an AI visibility architect. He created AI Visibility Architecture, the Entity Lock Protocol™, the BackTier Visibility Path™ (Citation → Inclusion → Selection), and the Agentic Visibility Path™. He is the author of AI Visibility: How to Win in the Age of Search, Chat & Smart Customers and host of the AI Visibility Podcast.
His work focuses on entity resolution, machine understanding, citation, selection, and agentic commerce. A central part of that work is the “Jason Wade problem”: because Jason Wade is a common name, AI systems can merge him with unrelated people and produce incorrect identities, careers, locations, or accomplishments. His ongoing “Jason AI” experiment tests whether a distinctive, machine-legible identity can improve how AI systems resolve, describe, cite, and recommend a real person.
