About your host Pete Rushmer; I’m Pete Rushmer – founder of Flagship Partners and now TEDx Speaker and Coach. I am someone who’s been in the thick of it: growing businesses, leading teams, and learning (sometimes the hard way) that success can feel pretty lonely at the top. That’s why I created INSLATT – a podcast for business owners, leaders and high-performers who want to thrive without burning out. Each week, I dive into real, unfiltered conversations with inspiring guests and share lessons I’ve picked up from my own journey through corporate chaos, entrepreneurial graft, and the pursuit of something greater. If you’re hungry for personal growth, bold leadership, and connection with people who just get it, then you’re in the right place. Because the truth is; it’s not so lonely at the top… when we talk about it and share our experiences.

2026/10/07
What keeps a leader going when the pressure hits and nothing goes to plan? In this episode, Pete Rushmer explores the timeless lessons of Viktor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning and what they mean for business owners, directors and leaders today. S1 Ep24 Meet Natalie Goodson - Director at Robert J Goodson Ltd
2026/09/23
Fairness, Flexibility & the Future of Fleet Insurance with Natalie Goodson Description Natalie Goodson has spent 32 years in general insurance the last two decades of it specialising in transport and logistics and she didn't slow down to get there. She earned her ACII chartered qualification while working full-time, building technical depth in policy wording, contractual liability, cargo compliance, and fleet risk mitigation the hard way: on the job, under pressure, one renewal at a time. In this episode, Natalie takes us inside a transport insurance market that's changed shape fast. The number of primary insurers has shrunk, and specialist MGAs have stepped into the gap which means brokers now juggle more agencies just to give clients the same access they used to get from a handful of insurers. She unpacks what that shift actually means for anyone buying fleet or cargo cover, and where AI is starting to earn its place in the business: drafting policy wording and health & safety paperwork in plain English is a genuine win, while customer-facing chatbots are, more often than not, still failing the people who need real answers. But this conversation goes well beyond market mechanics. Natalie runs a business that carries its founder's name and talks candidly about the pressure of protecting a legacy that isn't just a brand, but a reputation people trust with their livelihoods. Her leadership principle is simple and non-negotiable: fairness governs how claims get handled and how client expectations get managed, full stop. She also walks through her team's shift to a flexible, part-time workforce the wellbeing upside of being able to flex hours around holidays and sickness, weighed honestly against the real scheduling complexity and coverage gaps it creates. On the personal side, Natalie shares the "Let Them" approach she uses to stop burning energy on decisions she can't control, why she deliberately blocks time to work on the business rather than getting swallowed by it, and how much she's come to value being part of a peer group rather than figuring it all out alone. Her advice to young professionals entering the industry is refreshingly unfiltered: commit, listen, enjoy. And on what actually drives performance in a team, she's clear that motivation beats discipline every time. Whether you're in transport, insurance, or just building a business that has to hold its founder's name up every single day, this episode is packed with hard-won, practical insight from someone who's lived it for three decades. In this episode: Building technical mastery in insurance while working full-time Why the transport insurance market is consolidating around MGAs — and what it means for brokers and buyers Where AI genuinely helps (paperwork) and where it's still falling short (customer service) Leading a business that carries someone else's name and legacy Fairness as the organising principle behind every claims decision The trade-offs of a flexible, part-time team structure The "Let Them" approach to protecting your energy Working on the business, not just in it Advice for young professionals: commit, listen, enjoy Why motivation outperforms discipline in building an engaged team About Natalie Goodson Natalie Goodson is a chartered insurance professional (ACII) with 32 years in general insurance, specialising in transport and logistics. Her technical expertise spans policy wording analysis, contractual liability, cargo compliance, and fleet risk mitigation, built over decades of hands-on broking in a rapidly evolving market.   🎧 Perfect for listeners interested in: Entrepreneurship, service business growth, leadership, scaling trades businesses, wellbeing strategies, and building a high-performance team. Her approach isn't about walking on eggshells or reciting the "right" language, it's about talking with people, not at them, so leaders can have honest conversations with genuine confidence. In this episode, Katie and Pete get into the conversations most leaders are quietly afraid to have. Katie shares the moment she realised, at 36, that she was white.  A realisation that reshaped how she understands whiteness, race, and her own blind spots.  Katie talks candidly about unlearning internalised misogyny and the fear of getting things wrong. From there, the conversation turns to what's coming for workplaces: as division and polarisation in wider society spill into offices and teams, Katie explains what leaders need to understand now if they want to keep people working together, rather than pulling apart and how getting this wrong can mean real costs in grievances, complaints, and staff turnover. It's a candid, no-notes-off-limits conversation for any leader who's ever hesitated before raising a difficult subject at work and wondered whether staying quiet was actually the riskier choice. "The Real Story Behind 'Perfect Pete': What Your Partner Knows That You Don't" What's it really like being married to a business owner? In this candid episode, Pete sits down with his wife Maggie to pull back the curtain on entrepreneurship, parenting, and the pressures of running multiple ventures. Maggie reveals the truths behind the scenes: Pete's relentless idea generation (and how it can be both inspiring and overwhelming), the tension between his 7 PM bedtime and a social life, the loneliness that comes with leadership despite close family ties, and the real cost of balancing four kids and multiple businesses. 5 lessons from Atiq
2026/07/15
In this special 5 Lessons episode of It’s Not So Lonely at the Top, Pete reflects on five powerful leadership lessons from his conversation with Atiq Rehman. Atiq’s story is not polished theory from a textbook. It is lived leadership — built through kindness, vulnerability, community work, criticism, faith and the courage to keep showing up for people who need support. The five lessons explore why honesty builds deeper trust than perfection, how pain can make us more compassionate rather than closed off, why real impact comes from making people feel seen, how kindness can be a quiet form of strength, and why unity begins with honest conversation rather than winning arguments. This episode is a reminder that leadership is not always about being the loudest voice in the room. Sometimes it is about being the person willing to listen, care, act and keep going — even when it would be easier not to. If Atiq’s story teaches us anything, it is that kindness is not weakness. It is leadership with its sleeves rolled up.   🎧 Perfect for listeners interested in: Entrepreneurship, service business growth, leadership, scaling trades businesses, wellbeing strategies, and building a high-performance team. S1 Ep21 Meet Atiq Rehman - Founder & Director of Unspoken
2026/07/01
In this powerful episode of It’s Not So Lonely at the Top, Pete sits down with Atiq Rehman; a community leader, charity founder, mental health advocate and the driving force behind Unspoken. From starting Children of Adam with just £10 from each founder, to helping grow it into one of Peterborough’s most recognised community charities, Atiq’s story is one of action, faith, sacrifice and relentless kindness. He shares the moments that shaped him, including supporting the homeless, raising thousands for children’s hospitals, helping terminally ill children fulfil dreams, and his mission to bring people together across race, religion and background. This conversation goes far beyond charity. Pete and Atiq explore men’s mental health, the danger of loneliness, the power of human connection, the impact of social media on children, and Atiq’s bold vision to help end homelessness in Peterborough and reduce child self-harm and suicide. At its heart, this episode is a reminder that kindness is not soft. It is strong, practical, courageous and deeply needed. Atiq’s message is simple but powerful: we all have the ability to make someone’s life better  and sometimes, the smallest act can create the biggest ripple. About Atiq Atiq Rehman is a community leader, charity founder, mental health advocate and the driving force behind Unspoken; a movement built on kindness, unity and practical action. Born and raised in Peterborough, Atiq has dedicated much of his life to helping people who are often unseen, unheard or unsupported. He was one of the founders of Children of Adam, a charity that began with just £10 from each founder and grew into one of Peterborough’s most recognised community charities, supporting the homeless, vulnerable families, domestic violence victims and orphan projects around the world. Atiq’s work is rooted in a simple but powerful belief: kindness changes lives. From raising thousands of pounds for children’s hospital toy drops, to supporting terminally ill children, feeding the homeless, campaigning for better protection for young people online, and challenging the stigma around men’s mental health, his mission is to bring people together across race, religion, background and belief. Through Unspoken, Atiq continues to champion open conversations, human connection and everyday acts of kindness. His long-term vision is bold: to help end homelessness in Peterborough, reduce child self-harm and suicide, and build a community where people are judged by their heart, not their colour, faith or circumstances. Atiq’s story is one of faith, sacrifice, resilience and service but above all, it is a reminder that leadership does not always start in boardrooms. Sometimes it starts with seeing someone in pain and deciding to do something about it. 🎧 Perfect for listeners interested in: Entrepreneurship, service business growth, leadership, scaling trades businesses, wellbeing strategies, and building a high-performance team. What leaders can learn from education
2026/06/10
What happens when you step outside the boardroom and into a classroom? In this episode of It’s Not So Lonely at the Top, Pete shares why becoming a school governor has sharpened his leadership lens more than most business environments ever could. From relentless clarity and real-time feedback to culture being tested under pressure—not just talked about—education offers a raw, unfiltered view of leadership in action. This isn’t theory. It’s leadership without the safety net. Pete breaks down the powerful lessons business leaders can take from schools, including why people development isn’t a “nice to have,” why visibility matters more than you think, and how simplicity often beats strategy. If you want to lead better, communicate clearer, and build a culture that actually holds under pressure; this one will make you think. 🎧 Perfect for listeners interested in: Entrepreneurship, service business growth, leadership, scaling trades businesses, wellbeing strategies, and building a high-performance team. S1 Ep20 Meet Iain Crighton - Business Start Up Coach
2026/06/03
In this episode of It’s Not So Lonely at the Top, Pete is joined by Iain Crighton for a conversation about purpose-driven leadership, business growth, mentoring, resilience and the power of giving without expecting anything in return. Iain shares his journey from the automotive industry and business ownership through to coaching, community leadership and helping others achieve more than they thought possible. His philosophy is simple but powerful: when you lead with generosity, clarity and purpose, good things tend to happen — often in ways you could never have planned. Pete and Iain explore what it really means to build a business that makes a positive impact, why community involvement can create both social value and commercial growth, and how mentoring can help business leaders scale with more confidence and fewer costly mistakes. Iain also shares his ambition to help transform Peterborough’s start-up ecosystem by improving survival, sustainability and long-term growth through better support and mentorship. This is a conversation full of wisdom, lived experience and practical leadership lessons — from protecting your time and working on the business, to rebuilding trust after betrayal, supporting your people through difficult moments, and staying focused on what really matters. A brilliant listen for business owners, leaders, mentors and anyone who believes business can be both commercially successful and deeply meaningful. About Iain Iain Crighton is an experienced business coach, mentor and former managing director with a strong background in the automotive and retail cycle industries. With a Master’s degree in Retail Management from Loughborough University School of Business and Economics, and as a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry, Iain brings a rare blend of commercial experience, leadership wisdom and genuine community spirit. His mission is simple but powerful: to give without the expectation of receiving. It is a philosophy that has shaped much of his work, whether supporting business leaders, helping them find the right mentors, or encouraging people to achieve more than they ever thought possible. Iain is passionate about business as a force for good. Alongside his commercial career, he has played an active role in supporting local communities through voluntary leadership positions, including serving as a Trustee of the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, a Trustee of SportsAid Eastern and Chairman of Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce for eight years. His community impact is significant. He helped launch a successful youth development programme at his local cricket club, led a team that raised over a quarter of a million pounds to support young athletes through grants, and played a part in the early journeys of three future Rio Olympic medallists. Iain has also led environmental and community legacy projects, including coordinating the planting of the first 5,000 trees for a new city forest, now named Crightons Wood. The project brought together local primary school children, the Environment Trust and the wider community, creating something lasting for future generations. In 2012, Iain was selected to carry the Olympic Torch through the city as part of the London Olympic Torch Relay, a fitting recognition of his contribution to business, sport and community life. At the heart of Iain’s story is a deep belief in service, generosity and helping others grow. Whether in business, mentoring, sport or community work, he has consistently used his experience and influence to create opportunities for others and leave things better than he found them. 🎧 Perfect for listeners interested in: Entrepreneurship, service business growth, leadership, scaling trades businesses, wellbeing strategies, and building a high-performance team. Stop Emotional Eating
2026/05/13
Most people don’t have a food problem… they have an emotional one. In this episode, Pete sits down with Luke Harrison to unpack the truth about emotional eating—and why willpower isn’t the answer most people think it is. They move beyond the noise of diets, calorie counting, and quick fixes, and get to what actually works: building a way of eating that fuels performance, fits real life, and doesn’t fall apart under pressure. Luke challenges the traditional “diet” mindset, showing why short-term restriction often leads to long-term frustration. Instead, he breaks down how to create a sustainable lifestyle approach—one built on three pillars: enjoyment, effectiveness, and sustainability. The conversation gets practical too. From simple meal prep hacks using everyday office tools, to creating go-to meals that satisfy both physically and emotionally, this is about making good nutrition easy—even on your busiest days. They also tackle emotional eating head-on. Not with guilt or rigid rules, but with awareness and smarter substitutes—helping you stay consistent without feeling deprived. Because the goal isn’t perfection… it’s control without obsession. Intermittent fasting gets a reality check as well. Done right, it can work. Done wrong, it can backfire. Luke shares when it helps, when it doesn’t, and why there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. This episode is a reset for anyone who’s tired of starting over. If you want to eat better, think clearer, and perform at a higher level—without swinging between extremes—this one’s for you. About the Guest Luke John Harrison is a coach, gym owner, and podcast host helping men over 35 rebuild their energy, discipline, and self-respect in a world that’s quietly grinding them down. Tim & Pete on Mental Health
2026/04/29
What if we’ve been looking at mental health the wrong way? After our interview with Tim Harris, we kept the mics rolling… and went somewhere deeper. This isn’t a polished, “say-the-right-thing” conversation. It’s raw, honest, and at times… a little uncomfortable. We explore a perspective that might divide opinion: Can self-development and personal growth actually improve mental health? Not ignore it. Not dismiss it. But strengthen it. We talk about: The difference between support and self-responsibility Whether modern leadership leans too heavily on protection over resilience How discomfort, accountability, and growth might be part of the solution—not the problem And where the line is between pushing yourself forward… and knowing when to seek help This is not about minimising mental health challenges. It’s about expanding the conversation. Because if we only ever treat the symptoms… are we missing the opportunity to build stronger, more resilient people in the process? About the Guest Tim Harris helps successful leaders stop drifting and start leading with intention. A former Global Head turned coach and EOS Implementer, he reinvented his life after burnout by rowing across the Atlantic. Now he challenges entrepreneurs to choose discomfort over comfort, build real accountability, and create businesses that don’t quietly consume their lives.
