Coventry City Daily Digest: Friday 2 October 2026

Coventry's away allocation for Tottenham Hotspur sold out on Thursday, the day it went on sale. The club confirm a limited number of wheelchair bays and ambulant disabled tickets remain for registered disabled season ticket holders with the required loyalty points, available by phone to the ticket office or in person at the Coventry Building Society Arena. If any are still available on Friday 2 October they are sold in four windows: 1300+ points from 10:00, 1200+ from 12:00, 1100+ from 14:00 and 1000+ from 16:00. Successful ballot members who have not yet bought have until 10:00 on Friday 2 October. Coventry are at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday 19 October. Andy Turner of CoventryLive reports that Taiwo Awoniyi is serving a three match suspension, has already sat out the last two matches and will serve the third against Newcastle United at home on Monday 12 October, 8pm. From the same CoventryLive round-up of the eleven Sky Blues away with their countries: Yann Gboho came off the bench in the 83rd minute for the Ivory Coast against Somalia on Tuesday and scored in the 89th in a 2-0 win; Norman Bassette scored the winner for Belgium Under-21s against a Wales Under-21 side captained by Coventry team-mate Kai Andrews, in Westerlo, where Bassette is on loan; Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka both started and were both withdrawn at half-time as Nigeria lost 3-0 away to Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday; and Caleb Yirenkyi and Brandon Thomas-Asante lost 2-0 to the Ivory Coast and then 4-2 to Gambia from two goals up, prompting calls for the Ghana manager to go. Coventry City have unveiled a limited-edition all-pink shirt in aid of Breast Cancer Awareness, on sale online and in The Cov Store from Friday 9 October in adult and junior sizes, stock limited, with one-off auction pieces raising further funds later in the month. The campaign runs across October at the Coventry Building Society Arena, with the charity CoppaFeel! hosted at the Newcastle United fixture on Monday 12 October and a stadium-wide fan display before kick-off. Coventry City have confirmed ticket details for the away game at Tottenham Hotspur on Monday 19 October, 8pm kick-off at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with a full allocation of 3,038 tickets and one ticket per Supporter Number. The sale runs in four loyalty-point windows on Thursday 1 October: 1700+ points from 10am, 1600+ from 12pm, 1500+ from 2pm and 1400+ from 4pm, each window open for one hour 45 minutes, with unpaid baskets cleared before the next window opens. Prices are £30 adult, £25 senior and young adult (18 to 25), £18 under 18, plus a £1 booking fee per ticket, and supporters buying a ticket receive 20 loyalty points. The club says further on-sales will be communicated if tickets remain. The Premier League's Key Match Incidents panel has ruled both big decisions in Coventry's 1-0 win at Nottingham Forest correct, as reported by Andy Turner for CoventryLive. The panel supported the VAR intervention to disallow Igor Jesus' late goal 4-1, saying the attacker carelessly stepped on the heel of Caleb Yirenkyi and that it was impactful in the lead up to the goal, and ruled 5-0 that the referee's call of no penalty for a challenge by Frank Onyeka in the 85th minute was correct, the contact being below the threshold for a penalty. Across match round five the panel judged 88% of on-field referee decisions correct, and 89% across the season to date. Frank Lampard has spoken about man management at Coventry, in comments reported by Andy Turner for CoventryLive, who calls it Lampard's biggest challenge since arriving at the club. Lampard said he does not walk in every day and sing a song to the players, that they are grown ups who understand it, and that he is very big on positivity but that positivity and confidence come with work. He pointed to two of the first five fixtures being away at two of what he called the best teams in Europe and said he would not speak forever about it, that City gave everything at Arsenal, and that against Manchester City they competed and probably should have got a result. He said he is not beating the players up over nerves when many are making their Premier League debuts in their mid-20s, and that being exposed to the level is the best way for them to settle. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Ellis Simms has applied for a Polish passport and Poland are interested and watching, Andy Turner reports for CoventryLive on the back of reporting out of Poland. Poland's national team director Adrian Mierzejewski says Simms' documents are with the consulate and they are waiting on the passport; Polish reports say coach Kibu Vicuna, recently added to Jan Urban's staff, has been tasked with flying to England to watch him; head coach Urban told TVP Sport that Simms would be treated like anyone else once the paperwork clears, and that he is not Haaland but not some random player either. Simms, called up by England at Under-20 level and also eligible for Jamaica, qualifies for Poland through his Poland-born grandmother. He was not in the squad for Poland's three games this international break, against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania and Sweden, which CoventryLive puts down to the documents still being processed. Liam Kitching made his Republic of Ireland debut on Sunday in a 3-0 Nations League win over Israel, playing the full 90 minutes on the left of a back three after sitting on the bench for the defeat to Kosovo on the Thursday. He qualifies through a Kildare-born grandmother. Ireland head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson said Kitching would have been in the squad in the summer had the papers been processed sooner, and called him a brilliant person, a good character and a good leader, and a left-footed centre-back Ireland do not have many of. Kitching, a Coventry player, is at Sheffield United on a season-long loan and has played every minute of their four games so far. Carl Rushworth says the shackles are off after Coventry's first win of the season at Nottingham Forest, where he supplied the ball for Jay Dasilva's winner and, by his own account, had barely a save to make. There were no new club announcements out of Coventry City for a fourth day running. The ticket window for supporters with previous purchase history opens at 10am on Wednesday 30 September for Newcastle United at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Monday 12 October, 8pm. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Joel Latibeaudiere started for Jamaica as they lost one nil at home to Honduras in the Concacaf Nations League at the National Stadium in Kingston, Keyrol Figueroa scoring the only goal. The Honduran paper Diez reported Latibeaudiere booked in the first half for a foul on Figueroa. Jamaica had won their opening group game against Guatemala. There were no new club announcements out of Coventry City for a third day running. Brandon Thomas-Asante, away on international duty with Ghana, has taken two bags of Milan van Ewijk's old football boots to Accra and handed them to Eric Asante, the coach who worked with him before he had played a professional game. The boots have gone to Covenant FC, a grassroots club in Dansoman. Andy Turner has the story for CoventryLive. Thomas-Asante and Caleb Yirenkyi are with Ghana against Gambia on Tuesday, and Taiwo Awoniyi is with Nigeria away in Guinea-Bissau, both in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying. The ticket window for supporters with previous purchase history opens at 10am on Wednesday 30 September for Newcastle United at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Monday 12 October, a category A fixture. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Newcastle United captain Dan Burn is aiming to return for the trip to Coventry City on Monday 12 October, according to Andy Turner’s report for CoventryLive, which carries Burn’s own comments to Newcastle’s matchday programme. Burn rolled his ankle in training before Newcastle’s opening day draw with Liverpool, is out of his cast and building strength, and is not expected to go straight back into the starting eleven. There was no fresh news out of Coventry City itself, and no Sky Blues football until the international break ends. Joel Latibeaudiere is with Jamaica, who host Honduras in Kingston on Monday night local time, and Taiwo Awoniyi is with a Nigeria squad away in Guinea-Bissau on Tuesday. There is nothing further from the club on Oliver Dovin, who is being treated at Coventry for the shoulder injury announced on Friday. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Joel Latibeaudiere started as Jamaica opened their Concacaf Nations League campaign with a three two win over Guatemala in Kingston, Renaldo Cephas settling it in stoppage time after Kasey Palmer scored one and made another and Oscar Santis twice put Guatemala in front. There was no news out of Coventry City itself, and no Premier League football during the international break. Five games into the season the Sky Blues have one win and three points, with one goal scored and ten conceded, and CoventryLive argued at the weekend that the underlying numbers are closer than that: expected goals of getting on for five against the single goal scored, and Jack Rudoni and Taiwo Awoniyi both inside the division's top thirty for big chances missed. Newcastle United visit the Coventry Building Society Arena on Monday 12 October at 8pm, with the ticket window for supporters with previous purchase history opening at 10am on Wednesday 30 September. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Goalkeeper Oliver Dovin is back at Coventry City from his loan at Leyton Orient for treatment on a shoulder injury, picked up towards the end of Orient's EFL Trophy game against Arsenal Under 21s on 15 September. Nigeria came from behind to beat Madagascar two one in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying, debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor scoring, with Taiwo Awoniyi coming off the bench. England Under 21s beat Kazakhstan four two at Molineux, Will Lankshear scoring on his debut, with Stephen Mfuni in the squad on a first call up at that level. Yann Gboho is still waiting on a first Ivory Coast cap. Newcastle United visit the Coventry Building Society Arena on Monday 12 October at 8pm, a category A fixture, with the ticket window for supporters with previous purchase history opening at 10am on Wednesday 30 September. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Frank Lampard says Caleb Yirenkyi is going to be a really high level player, praising the summer signing's humility after moving him to right wing back at Nottingham Forest to cover for the injured Milan van Ewijk. Yirenkyi played the full ninety in midfield as Ghana lost two nil to the Ivory Coast in Bouake, with Brandon Thomas-Asante substituted after 64 minutes and Yann Gboho an unused substitute for the Ivorians on his first senior call up. Jay Dasilva played the full ninety as Wales lost one nil to Portugal in Lisbon. Stephen Mfuni has a first England Under 21 call up, with England playing Kazakhstan at Molineux tonight, and Liam Kitching has a first Republic of Ireland call up. Newcastle United tickets are on sale, with the previous purchase history window opening at 10am on Wednesday 30 September ahead of the Monday 12 October fixture. Plus the reported verdict in Manchester City's Premier League case. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Coventry are a few days into a three week break with no game until Newcastle United visit the Arena on Monday 12 October, and CoventryLive's Andy Turner has set out how Frank Lampard plans to use it. Eight of the twenty five man squad are away on international duty, the first week is light, and a behind closed doors friendly is scheduled for the weekend of 3 and 4 October with every available player expected to feature. Lampard says some of his summer signings are not yet fully fit, with Sidiki Cherif named, while Gustavo Hamer, Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Ellis Simms, Loum Tchaouna and Victor Torp are all short of league minutes. Ephron Mason-Clark has stayed behind rather than travel with Jamaica. Jay Dasilva plays for Wales away to Portugal today. Plus Sky Blues in the Community backing the Premier League's Together Against Suicide campaign. Play Up, Sky Blues!

A quiet Tuesday at Coventry, with nothing at all from the club, but CoventryLive's Andy Turner has been through the treatment room and put a return date against all six of Frank Lampard's injured players. Aurele Amenda's calf tear is the worst of it, a minimum of two months by Lampard's own reckoning and a Christmas return by Turner's, while Haji Wright is on course with his quad rehab but not due back until the start of November. Milan van Ewijk, Kaine Kesler-Hayden, Josh Eccles and Luke Woolfenden are all dated for early October, which should have them available when Newcastle United visit the Arena on Monday 12 October. Plus the fixtures that follow, where the table stands, and a reminder that voting for the Premier League's Player of the Matchweek, with Jay Dasilva on the shortlist, closes at midday today. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Four pieces of Coventry news on the first day of the international break. Jay Dasilva is nominated for the Premier League's Player of the Matchweek for gameweek five after his winner at Nottingham Forest, with voting open until midday on Wednesday. CoventryLive's Andy Turner counts eleven Sky Blues away with their countries, eight first teamers and three out on loan, including Liam Kitching's first ever Ireland call-up, a late Ghana call for Brandon Thomas-Asante and Yann Gboho facing his own club team-mates for the Ivory Coast on Thursday. Ephron Mason-Clark has stayed at home with his third child due any day. Josh Eccles, Milan van Ewijk, Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Luke Woolfenden are all set to be back training during the break. The international break opens with an injury update, and most of it is bad. Frank Lampard told CoventryLive's Andy Turner that Aurèle Amenda's calf problem is more severe than hoped, with a minimum of two months expected and possibly up to three, which would put the summer signing out until around Christmas. Better news on Milan van Ewijk, whose hamstring issue is not serious and who Lampard hopes will be back once the league resumes. Kaine Kesler-Hayden and Luke Woolfenden are also due back after the break, while Haji Wright is not expected until the end of October or early November. Plus the run of fixtures out of the break, from the club's own listings: Newcastle United at home on Monday 12 October, Tottenham Hotspur away on Monday 19 October and Fulham at home on Saturday 24 October. Play Up, Sky Blues!

A win at last. Coventry City won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening for their first Premier League victory of the season and their first in the competition since 2001. Jay Dasilva scored his first goal for the club on 55 minutes, running onto Carl Rushworth's long ball and finishing past Matz Sels. It was also Coventry's first Premier League goal in twenty five years. Forest had a late equaliser from Igor Jesus ruled out by VAR for a foul on Caleb Yirenkyi. Frank Lampard called the win a relief and said his side had changed system after the Aston Villa game. Plus the team news from the City Ground, where Milan van Ewijk missed out with a hamstring issue, and where Coventry sit in the table going into the three week international break. Play Up, Sky Blues!

Matchday. Coventry are at Nottingham Forest this evening, half past five at the City Ground, in the last game before the international break. Frank Lampard says his side will be adaptable and will look at the opposition before settling on a shape. Oliver Glasner's team news for Forest: Nikola Milenkovic misses out, Jair Cunha is a late call after training on Thursday, and Glasner says everyone other than Milenkovic and Nicolo Savona will be fit. Plus Lampard on the hard conversation with Jake Bidwell, who is not in Coventry's twenty five man Premier League squad, and the first top flight meeting between these two clubs since January 1999. Doug King writes to supporters before the international break: more work at the Arena including another floodlight upgrade, an admission of teething, snagging and technology issues at the first two Premier League home games, and a promise to up the club's game on customer service. On the football, no magic beans and no change of course. Plus Frank Lampard's team news for Nottingham Forest away, where Aurele Amenda has a calf injury and is expected to miss out and Taiwo Awoniyi is suspended, so misses a first return to his old club. Josh Eccles, Luke Woolfenden and Kaine Kesler-Hayden are all expected back after the break. Play Up, Sky Blues!
