Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, November 8, 2026 | Matthew 25:1-13 | with Donovan Drake, Ashley Higgins, and Stephanie Boaz Matthew 25:1-13 Wise and foolish bridesmaids  25:1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten young women took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 25:2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 25:3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, 25:4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 25:5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. 25:6 But at midnight there was a shout, 'Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' 25:7 Then all those young women got up and trimmed their lamps. 25:8 The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 25:9 But the wise replied, 'No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' 25:10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet, and the door was shut. 25:11 Later the other young women came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' 25:12 But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' 25:13 Keep awake, therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, November 1, 2026 | All Saints' Day | Revelation 7:9-17 | with Donovan Drake, Ashley Higgins, Stephanie Boaz, and Sarah Bird Kneff Revelation 7:9-17 A multitude sings before the Lamb  7:9After this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 7:10They cried out in a loud voice, saying, "Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne and to the Lamb!" 7:11And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 7:12singing, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever! Amen." 7:13Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, robed in white, and where have they come from?" 7:14I said to him, "Sir, you are the one who knows." Then he said to me, "These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb. 7:15For this reason they are before the throne of God and worship him day and night within his temple, and the one who is seated on the throne will shelter them. 7:16They will hunger no more and thirst no more; the sun will not strike them, nor any scorching heat, 7:17for the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and he will guide them to springs of the water of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, October 25, 2026 | Deuteronomy 34:1-12 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, Stephanie Boaz, and Sarah Bird Kneff Deuteronomy 34:1-12 Death of Moses  34:1 Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho, and the LORD showed him the whole land: Gilead as far as Dan, 34:2 all Naphtali, the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, 34:3 the Negeb, and the Plain -- that is, the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees -- as far as Zoar. 34:4 The LORD said to him, "This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, 'I will give it to your descendants.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not cross over there." 34:5 Then Moses, the servant of the LORD, died there in the land of Moab, at the Lord's command. 34:6 He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth-peor, but no one knows his burial place to this day. 34:7 Moses was one hundred twenty years old when he died; his sight was unimpaired, and his vigor had not abated. 34:8 The Israelites wept for Moses in the plains of Moab thirty days; then the period of mourning for Moses was ended. 34:9 Joshua son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom because Moses had laid his hands on him, and the Israelites obeyed him, doing as the LORD had commanded Moses. 34:10 Never since has there arisen a prophet in Israel like Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face. 34:11 He was unequaled for all the signs and wonders that the LORD sent him to perform in the land of Egypt, against Pharaoh and all his servants and his entire land, 34:12 and for all the mighty deeds and all the terrifying displays of power that Moses performed in the sight of all Israel. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, October 18, 2026 | Isaiah 45:1-7, Matthew 22:15-22 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, Stephanie Boaz, and Sarah Bird Kneff Isaiah 45:1-7 An earthly ruler works God's will  45:1Thus says the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have grasped to subdue nations before him and to strip kings of their robes, to open doors before him-- and the gates shall not be closed: 45:2I will go before you and level the mountains; I will break in pieces the doors of bronze and cut through the bars of iron; 45:3I will give you the treasures of darkness and riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know that it is I, the LORD, the God of Israel, who call you by your name. 45:4For the sake of my servant Jacob and Israel my chosen, I call you by your name; I give you a title, though you do not know me. 45:5I am the LORD, and there is no other; besides me there is no god. I arm you, though you do not know me, 45:6so that they may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is no one besides me; I am the LORD, and there is no other. 45:7I form light and create darkness, I make weal and create woe; I the LORD do all these things. Matthew 22:15-22 A teaching about the emperor and God  22:15Then the Pharisees went and plotted to entrap him in what he said. 22:16So they sent their disciples to him, along with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that you are sincere, and teach the way of God in accordance with truth, and show deference to no one, for you do not regard people with partiality. 22:17Tell us, then, what you think. Is it lawful to pay taxes to the Caesar, or not?" 22:18But Jesus, aware of their malice, said, "Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites? 22:19Show me the coin used for the tax." And they brought him a denarius. 22:20Then he said to them, "Whose head is this and whose title?" 22:21They answered, "Caesar's." Then he said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar's and to God the things that are God's." 22:22When they heard this, they were amazed, and they left him and went away. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, October 4, 2026 | Philippians 3:4b-14 | with Donovan Drake, Ashley Higgins, Stephanie Boaz, and Sarah Bird Kneff Philippians 3:4b-14 To know Christ and his resurrection 3:4b If anyone else has reason to be confident in the flesh, I have more: 3:5 circumcised on the eighth day, a member of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew born of Hebrews; as to the law, a Pharisee; 3:6 as to zeal, a persecutor of the church; as to righteousness under the law, blameless. 3:7 Yet whatever gains I had, these I have come to regard as loss because of Christ. 3:8 More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 3:9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law but one that comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God based on faith. 3:10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by becoming like him in his death, 3:11 if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead. 3:12 Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to lay hold of that for which Christ has laid hold of me. 3:13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider that I have laid hold of it, but one thing I have laid hold of: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 3:14 I press on toward the goal, toward the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, September 27, 2026 | Philippians 2:1-13 | with Donovan Drake, Ashley Higgins, and Stephanie Boaz
2026/09/22
Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, September 27, 2026 | Philippians 2:1-13 | with Donovan Drake, Ashley Higgins, and Stephanie Boaz Philippians 2:1-13 Christ humbled to the point of death  2:1 If, then, there is any comfort in Christ, any consolation from love, any partnership in the Spirit, any tender affection and sympathy, 2:2 make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. 2:3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or empty conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. 2:4 Let each of you look not to your own interests but to the interests of others. 2:5 Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, 2:6 who, though he existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, 2:7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, assuming human likeness. And being found in appearance as a human, 2:8 he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death-- even death on a cross. 2:9 Therefore God exalted him even more highly and gave him the name that is above every other name, 2:10 so that at the name given to Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 2:11 and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. 2:12 Therefore, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed me, not only in my presence but much more now in my absence, work on your own salvation with fear and trembling, 2:13 for it is God who is at work in you, enabling you both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, September 20, 2026 | Matthew 20:1-16 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, Ashley Higgins, and Stephanie Boaz. Matthew 20:1-16 The parable of the vineyard workers  20:1"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. 20:2After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. 20:3When he went out about nine o'clock, he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, 20:4and he said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' So they went. 20:5When he went out again about noon and about three o'clock, he did the same. 20:6And about five o'clock he went out and found others standing around, and he said to them, 'Why are you standing here idle all day?' 20:7They said to him, 'Because no one has hired us.' He said to them, 'You also go into the vineyard.' 20:8When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his manager, 'Call the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and then going to the first.' 20:9When those hired about five o'clock came, each of them received a denarius. 20:10Now when the first came, they thought they would receive more; but each of them also received a denarius. 20:11And when they received it, they grumbled against the landowner, 20:12saying, 'These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.' 20:13But he replied to one of them, 'Friend, I am doing you no wrong; did you not agree with me for a denarius? 20:14Take what belongs to you and go; I choose to give to this last the same as I give to you. 20:15Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or are you envious because I am generous?' 20:16So the last will be first, and the first will be last." Discover more about the welcoming community at Westminster Presbyterian Church! Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, September 13, 2026 | Romans 14:1-12 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, Ashley Higgins, and Sarah Bird Kneff. Romans 14:1-12 14:1 Welcome those who are weak in faith but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions. 14:2 Some believe in eating anything, while the weak eat only vegetables. 14:3 Those who eat must not despise those who abstain, and those who abstain must not pass judgment on those who eat, for God has welcomed them. 14:4 Who are you to pass judgment on slaves of another? It is before their own lord that they stand or fall. And they will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make them stand. 14:5 Some judge one day to be better than another, while others judge all days to be alike. Let all be fully convinced in their own minds. 14:6 Those who observe the day, observe it for the Lord. Also those who eat, eat for the Lord, since they give thanks to God; while those who abstain, abstain for the Lord and give thanks to God. 14:7 For we do not live to ourselves, and we do not die to ourselves. 14:8 If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord; so then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. 14:9 For to this end Christ died and lived again, so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living. 14:10 Why do you pass judgment on your brother or sister? Or you, why do you despise your brother or sister? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. 14:11 For it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall give praise to God." 14:12 So then, each one of us will be held accountable to God. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, September 6th, 2026 | Romans 13:8-14 | with Guy D. Griffith, Ashley Higgins, and Stephanie Boaz Romans 13:8-14 Live honorably as in the day  13:8Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 13:9The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery; you shall not murder; you shall not steal; you shall not covet," and any other commandment, are summed up in this word, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." 13:10Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law. 13:11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is already the moment for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we became believers; 13:12the night is far gone; the day is near. Let us then throw off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; 13:13let us walk decently as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in illicit sex and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. 13:14Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. Griffith, Ashley Higgins, Sarah Bird Kneff, and Stephanie Boaz Romans 12:9-21 Live in harmony  12:9 Let love be genuine; hate what is evil; hold fast to what is good; 12:10 Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. 12:11 Do not lag in zeal; be ardent in spirit; serve the Lord. 12:12 Rejoice in hope; be patient in afflictions, persevere in prayer. 12:13 Contribute to the needs of the saints; pursue hospitality to strangers. 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. 12:15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. 12:16 Live in harmony with one another; do not be arrogant, but associate with the lowly; do not claim to be wiser than you are. 12:17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. 12:18 If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. 12:19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord." 12:20 Instead, "if your enemies are hungry, feed them; if they are thirsty, give them something to drink, for by doing this you will heap burning coals on their heads." 12:21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, August 23rd, 2026 | Romans 12:1-8 | with Donovan Drake, Ashley Higgins, Sarah Bird Kneff, and Stephanie Boaz Romans 12:1-8 One body in Christ, with gifts that differ  12:1I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, on the basis of God's mercy, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable act of worship. 12:2Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of the minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God--what is good and acceptable and perfect. 12:3For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than you ought to think but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. 12:4For as in one body we have many members and not all the members have the same function, 12:5so we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually we are members one of another. 12:6We have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us: prophecy, in proportion to faith; 12:7ministry, in ministering; the teacher, in teaching; 12:8the encourager, in encouragement; the giver, in sincerity; the leader, in diligence; the compassionate, in cheerfulness. And his disciples came and urged him, saying, "Send her away, for she keeps shouting after us." 15:24He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." 15:25But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." 15:26He answered, "It is not fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." 15:27She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." 15:28Then Jesus answered her, "Woman, great is your faith! Griffith, Ashley Higgins, and Stephanie Boaz 1 Kings 19:9-18 Elijah on Mount Horeb  19:9At that place he came to a cave and spent the night there. Then the word of the LORD came to him, saying, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 19:10He answered, "I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts, for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away." 19:11He said, "Go out and stand on the mountain before the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by." Now there was a great wind, so strong that it was splitting mountains and breaking rocks in pieces before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind, and after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake, 19:12and after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire, and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. 19:13When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" 19:14He answered, "I have been very zealous for the LORD, the God of hosts, for the Israelites have forsaken your covenant, thrown down your altars, and killed your prophets with the sword. I alone am left, and they are seeking my life, to take it away." 19:15Then the LORD said to him, "Go, return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus; when you arrive, you shall anoint Hazael as king over Aram. 19:16Also you shall anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel, and you shall anoint Elisha son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah as prophet in your place. 19:17Whoever escapes from the sword of Hazael, Jehu shall kill, and whoever escapes from the sword of Jehu, Elisha shall kill. 19:18Yet I will leave seven thousand in Israel, all the knees that have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him." Westminster Talking the Text Podcast for Sunday, August 2nd, 2026 | Matthew 14:13-21 | with Donovan Drake, Guy D. Griffith, and Will Wellman Jesus feeds 5000  14:13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14:14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. 14:15 When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves." 14:16 Jesus said to them, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." 14:17 They replied, "We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish." 14:18 And he said, "Bring them here to me." 14:19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and blessed and broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 14:20 And all ate and were filled, and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 14:21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.
