The Untold Truth On How Your Career Is Affecting Your Spouse
2026/10/27
What does it really take to be married to the badge?
Audra Sichler spent 20 years as the wife of an NYPD officer, and she never once let her husband George walk out the door feeling guilty. Her reason will change how you think about what happens at home while you're on the job: a cop who's distracted is a cop who isn't safe.
In this episode, Audra opens up about the only time she ever begged George not to go to work (September 11th, 2001), what she saw in his eyes when he came home six weeks later, and why she believes police wives are much stronger than officers give them credit for. We also get into what retirement exposes that 20 years on the job kept hidden, why she "secretly raised her right hand" the day George took the oath, and the message every cop needs to hear before deciding his wife can't handle what he's carrying.
If you're on the job, married, or retired and still figuring out who you are without the badge, this one's for you, and for her.

Navy Seal BUD/S To NYPD Bomb Squad
2026/10/13
From BUD/S to the Bomb Squad: The Cop Who Walked Alone Into Times Square
Steve went from accountant to NYPD cop, took a military leave in the middle of his career to try out for BUD/S, and made it through Hell Week before his heart went into AFib during one of the hardest underwater tests in training. He fought his way back, graduated BUD/S with Class 322, and was months from his first SEAL team when he was medically retired.
He came back to the NYPD, earned his way onto the Bomb Squad, and found himself walking alone in a bomb suit through Times Square and four levels beneath a crowded transit station. Then, at 14 years on the job, he walked away to follow his purpose: helping first responders and military families take control of their finances.
In this episode, we get into:
🔹 Why he chose the toughest precinct he could find as a rookie
🔹 The newsstand moment that sent him to BUD/S
🔹 What Hell Week, drown-proofing, and second phase really demand
🔹 The heart scare, the med board, and losing the dream he trained for
🔹 Life on the NYPD Bomb Squad, and what patrol cops should do when they find a suspicious package
🔹 Why he left the job at 14 years
🔹 How cops can protect themselves from bad financial advice, and the one question to ask every advisor

Violent Off-Duty Incident Changed NYPD Cops Life
2026/09/29
Jumped Off Duty: The Night That Changed Everything
August 30, 2014. 4:35 in the morning. Off duty and running on no sleep after a full tour, Krute walks into a Bronx bodega to grab baby wipes for his infant daughter. His phone is dead in the car. No radio, no cuffs, no backup. And three men follow him to the back of the store. What happened over the next seven minutes changed the way he saw his training, his faith, and his life.
Krute has lived several lives: a Thai-Chinese kid bullied in the South Bronx, a Marine who deployed to Al Anbar, an NYPD cop who spent two years on Impact in the busiest precinct in the city, a Buddhist monk walking barefoot through northern Thailand for alms, Army special operations, and a Portland cop elected union VP in the middle of 100+ days of riots. In this episode he breaks down what each chapter taught him, including the special operations selection he quit, only to learn the finish line was at the top of the very hill he walked away from.
We also get real about what the job costs: moving across the country for a "dream house" and steady days, then coming home to an empty house. Falling in love with the image of being a father instead of being one. Making the badge your identity. And how he rebuilt, as a dad, a man of faith, and a career coach helping cops find their next chapter before they burn out.
If you've ever wondered who you are without the uniform, this is the episode.

Demon Deliverance, Real Estate Investing and Policing In The Bronx
2026/09/08
Ilya came to America from a Russian housing block where eight families shared one bathroom. He joined the NYPD, made felony collars as a rookie, and got punished for it. He was drinking before roll call, running a burner phone for the women, and gambling in Atlantic City on his RDOs. He requested a post in the 4-6 for the summer — the same post Officer Miosotis Familia was assassinated on the next night.
He retired at eight years. Built a real estate business. Made more than the chief of the department. Bought the Mercedes, the watches, the custom home in the Dominican Republic. And he says he has never felt emptier in his life.
Then his son fell into a coma. His marriage collapsed. His business partners took everything. And in the middle of the wreckage he heard a voice say: *"I allowed you to crash — but now I'm going to build you back up, and I'll be your foundation."*
Today he runs an international ministry and prays deliverance over people. In this conversation he talks about what he thinks we were really looking at on some of those EDP jobs — and he answers the guys who are already calling him crazy.
This one is for every cop who hit the pension and still felt like something was missing.

Why Cops Are Losing If They Don't Multiple Streams Of Income
2026/08/25
He Retired at 47 With a Base Pension and Zero Regrets — Here's the Plan
Joe "Nyce" did 20 years with the Harrison PD and walked out the door at 47 with his marriage intact, his health intact, three kids he never missed a game for, and multiple businesses already running. His pension is a base pension. The most overtime he ever made in a year was $9,000. And he'll tell you that was the plan from day one.
In this episode Joe breaks down how he did it: 8 and a half years on midnights so he could coach every one of his kids' teams, the "5-5-5-5" blueprint for building a life outside the badge before you retire, how he went from $400 in the bank during COVID to owning a nutrition store, and why the badge was never his identity — just the vehicle God gave him to serve.
We also get real about the stuff nobody talks about: the divorce math (why build a pension just to give half of it away?), the unceremonious way departments say goodbye, what he saw as a school resource officer dealing with kids and porn, and why he says every cop needs to understand "we are not just cops."
If you're a first responder who wants to get to the other side of your career with everything intact, this is the episode.
WHAT WE COVER
• Why 9/11 pulled him out of Hollywood and into a patrol car
• 8.5 years of midnights, 3 hours of sleep, and never missing a game
• The divorce math every cop needs to hear
• How "Joe Nyce" the bar mitzvah MC became a business
• $400 in the bank during COVID and the pivot that saved his family
• Why he paid $10,000 to learn from Eric Thomas
• The 5-5-5-5 plan: learn the job, master it, build a business, prepare to leave
• God first, family second, mission third, goals last
• Why departments treat you like a number — and how to leave anyway
• "Leave it better than you found it"

The Truth About Being A Woman In The NYPD
2026/08/12
For eight years, she stayed silent. In this episode, Simone — a retired NYPD officer turned schoolteacher — sits down and tells her full story publicly for the very first time.
She grew up between Brownsville, Brooklyn and Queens Village, served five years as an EMT, and spent over a decade on the NYPD in the 113th Precinct in South Jamaica, Queens. But when she became a new mother and was denied her legal right to take breaks to pump breast milk for her son, she made a decision that would cost her friendships, take eight years of her life, and ultimately force an entire department to change.
She took on the NYPD — and won. Her fight pushed the city into compliance, put lactation facilities in commands and public buildings citywide, and created a brand-new patrol guide procedure that now protects every woman who comes after her.
This is a raw conversation about faith, courage, the culture women face in law enforcement, and what it really means to put your PURPOSE over your PENSION.
In this episode:
• Growing up between Brooklyn and Queens, and how it shaped her
• Leaving the Nation of Islam and finding her own faith in God
• Five years as an EMT before the badge
• The unspoken culture women navigate on the job
• Being targeted after speaking up — and documenting everything
• The moment "enough was enough" and the call that started it all
• Eight years of legal battle, isolation, and leaning on faith
• The settlement, the policy change, and the legacy she left behind
• Retirement, teaching, and what purpose over pension means to her
🎙️ Purpose Over Pension is where law enforcement and first responders find their second life — grounded in faith, purpose, and truth.

2026/07/29
In this episode of the Purpose Over Pension Podcast, retired detective Kyle Paterson sits down in New York to tell one of the most raw stories we've had on the show — a journey through loss, darkness, addiction, and ultimately, freedom.
It started with heartbreak. At 17, Kyle lost his mother to cancer after watching her fight it for three years. That loss sent him to UC Berkeley determined to find a cure — until a ride-along in West Oakland changed everything and pulled him into a life of public service.
He became a cop at 22 and a detective by 28, eventually landing in the work he found the most meaningful and the most haunting: investigating internet crimes against children. Kyle opens up about what those cases showed him, how common the problem really is, and the toll of carrying that weight home every night.
That weight had a cost. Like so many in law enforcement, Kyle turned to alcohol to cope — until the day he was the one preaching "get help" to everyone else and finally had to look in the mirror and make the call for himself. He shares his path to sobriety, the therapist who he says saved his life, and how he clawed his way back.
Today, Kyle is sober, retired from the badge, and building a life of purpose with his wife and four kids — running a portfolio of luxury short-term rentals and coaching first responders on how to build their own Plan B beyond the pension.
This one covers it all: grief, the reality of police work, addiction and recovery, faith, family, and financial freedom. If you're a cop, a first responder, or anyone who's ever felt trapped by the job, this conversation is for you.

From Domestic Violence Victim To NYPD Captain
2026/05/09
LaDatra Turner didn't grow up dreaming of wearing the badge. She grew up fast — in a Queens household shaped by her father's mental illness, drug addiction, and domestic violence. She found her way into law enforcement almost by accident, driven by one purpose: providing for her daughter.
What followed was 25 years of service, every rank from officer to captain, and a story she kept buried the entire time. A story about becoming a domestic violence victim herself while wearing the badge. About shame, silence, sacrifice, and survival.
In this episode, she finally tells it all.
From the grind of climbing every rank, to the personal cost of each exam, to what she's building in retirement — this is one of the most honest conversations we've had on this show.
For every first responder who has ever felt defined by the badge — this one is for you.

Getting Killed In Dreams As A Cop Brought Me To Christ
2026/04/22
The nightmares felt real enough to kill me — dying on the job, over and over. I'd wake up and not know if I was still alive. And I told nobody. That's what we do.
For years I was running — from God, from commitment, from the version of myself I was too ashamed to admit existed. I had a pornography addiction nobody knew about. I was terrified of marriage. And I had enough anger locked inside me to destroy every relationship I had.
I thought I had it under control. I didn't.It wasn't one dramatic altar moment that changed me. It was a stranger on the job who told me to read the New Testament. It was the parable of the Prodigal Son that cracked something open in me I couldn't shut back. And it was a room full of men — through the Conquer Series — who were finally willing to tell the truth out loud.In this video I share:
-The tormenting dreams that made me afraid to close my eyes
-How isolation on the job made my mind my worst enemy
-The moment a complete stranger on duty pointed me toward Scripture
-Why the Prodigal Son story broke through when nothing else did
-How I found my first real community of men through the Conquer Series
Almost 2 years free from pornography — and what that actually cost me
How I went from terrified of marriage to building a family on something real
If you're a cop, a first responder, or any man carrying something in silence — I made this for you. You don't have to figure it out alone.

Viral Music Video Featuring NYPD SVU Detective Almost Ruined His Life
2026/04/08
Phabian Winfield went viral — but the attention came at one of the darkest times in his life.
In this episode, he shares how music, pressure, faith, and his career in Homeland Security all collided to reveal a deeper purpose.
In this episode of Purpose Over Pension, Phabian opens up about the viral music video that put his name in front of the world — and the emotional, spiritual, and personal weight that came with it behind the scenes.
What looked like a breakthrough on the outside came during a season marked by pressure, inner conflict, and bigger questions about identity, purpose, and calling.
Phabian shares his journey through music, the impact of going viral, and how that moment forced him to confront what success really meant. He also talks about his path into Homeland Security / U.S. Customs and Border Protection, how that opportunity came after rejection elsewhere, and how both worlds — public attention and federal service — shaped the man he became.
This conversation is about more than music and more than the badge.
It's about what happens when visibility, pain, ambition, and faith all meet at the same time — and how purpose can be built in the middle of it.
In this episode, we cover:
-Phabian's viral music video and how it impacted him personally
-The hidden pressure that comes with sudden visibility
-His journey through music and entertainment
-Depression, spiritual warfare, and inner conflict
-His career in Homeland Security / CBP
-How rejection and redirection helped him find purpose
If you've ever had a moment that looked big on the outside but felt heavy on the inside, this episode will resonate with you.

He talks about the moment his business partner flipped for an immunity deal, leaving Ian to take the full weight of a 3-year federal sentence alone.
But this isn't just a cautionary tale. It's a blueprint for what comes after.
Ian shares what life inside federal prison is really like — the politics, the extortion, the assault by a guard that TikTok wouldn't let him forget — and what it took to rebuild from nothing. Working at Whole Foods. Living on an ankle monitor. Swallowing his pride every single day.
Then one video about solitary confinement went viral. And everything changed.
Today Ian runs a content brand with nearly 500,000 YouTube subscribers. His "Purpose Over Pension" moment? Walking away from the steady paycheck to bet on himself.
If you've ever felt like your past disqualifies you from your future — this one's for you.

From Rikers Island Corrections Officer To 60 Days Of Incarceration
2026/03/26
Qwell grew up in Bedstuy, Brooklyn — watching his uncle cycle in and out of Rikers Island. One of those same uncles told him to become a cop. He listened.
What followed was a career that took him through the chaos of Rikers as a Correctional Officer, to a federal facility where the rules were completely different, and eventually to the set of 60 Days In — where he spent 100 days locked inside a Utah jail, undercover, as an inmate.
In this conversation, Qwell breaks down what most people will never understand about life inside — the difference between federal and Rikers, how inmates are trained to see officers as nothing more than a paycheck, and what it actually costs mentally and personally to do this work when your own family can't fully understand what you're carrying.
He also gets real about the NYPD rejection that redirected his entire career, the moment an inmate threatened his family, and what 100 days undercover revealed about justice, identity, and purpose.
This episode is for every officer who has ever felt underestimated, overlooked, or like the system forgot about them. Qwell's story is proof that your path doesn't have to look the way you planned for it to mean something.
