Why Are AI CEOs BEGGING Trump to Regulate AI? (He Said No) -Ep. 28
2026/10/07
Summary
Why would the people building AI ask the government to slow them down?
OpenAI, Anthropic and their researchers are calling for AI regulation, warning of risks up to and including extinction. Trump's answer, delivered live on a call with Nvidia's Jensen Huang: full speed ahead, and the US will not finish second to China. Alex and Amir set out to answer the question the headlines skip: what do the AI companies actually get out of being regulated?
Amir, a former telecom CEO, starts with a blunt premise: AI can't be slowed down anymore. Today's models dispatch armies of autonomous agents that research, check and correct each other, and the genie is out of the bottle. From there he weighs three possible motives behind the CEOs' push: liability cover ahead of the OpenAI and Anthropic IPOs, a "nuclear club" strategy to shut the door on new competitors, and the one he leans toward, that big AI moved too fast, skipped its own safety work, and doesn't want to be the only one forced to stop.
Alex brings the counterargument from the Trump administration, JD Vance and David Sacks: if you're building Frankenstein, don't ask the government to protect you from it. Build safeguards, harnesses and defenses yourself. The episode closes on a verdict both hosts can live with: regulation is needed, but if the US overdoes it too early, it risks the EU's fate, with the rest of the world moving on without it.
Main Themes
Why AI CEOs and researchers are asking to be regulatedTrump's "we're not slowing down" call with Jensen HuangWhy autonomous AI agents make slowing down nearly impossibleAGI as agents aligning, not a single model launchRegulation as liability cover before the OpenAI and Anthropic IPOsThe "close the door behind us" theory: regulation as a moatWhether the US could use AI rules to choke out China and DeepSeekDid big AI skip its own safety checks? Why Zuckerberg says he did his homework and won't slow down"Don't build Frankenstein": the Trump administration's positionHarnesses, off switches and who should control themAvoiding the EU trap: regulating without falling behind

Apple iPhone Duo: Is John Ternus' $2,000 Bet Worth It? (Ep. 27)
2026/09/24
Summary
Apple's first foldable, the iPhone Duo, starts at $1,999 and was the centrepiece of John Ternus' debut keynote as CEO. Alex and Amir argue about whether it's worth it.
Amir, a former telecom CEO, makes the case that Apple has run this play for twenty years: Nokia shipped the first touchscreen, Samsung shipped NFC years before Apple Pay, and Apple arrives late with the use case worked out. Alex isn't buying it. He prefers Android, doesn't want the ecosystem lock, and thinks $2,000 buys a status signal before it buys a business tool.
That leads to the question they didn't plan to answer the way they do: would a senior executive actually open one in a meeting? The answer, from someone who sits in those rooms, is no, and the reason isn't the technology.
Main Themes

Apple BANS Telegram?! WhatsApp AI + SpaceX IPO Explained (Ep. 26)
2026/08/21
Summary
What happens when one company can make an app used by nearly a billion people disappear from your phone overnight?
Alex and Amir unpack the temporary disappearance of Telegram from Apple’s App Store and the bigger power struggle behind it: privacy, moderation, censorship resistance and the growing influence of platform gatekeepers.
They debate whether Apple is simply protecting the standards of its ecosystem, whether Telegram is doing enough to police illegal content, and what happens when governments realize they can pressure a platform like Apple instead of attacking Telegram directly.
The conversation then shifts to WhatsApp AI and Meta’s potential plan to turn messaging into something much bigger. With AI agents, payments and tools like Manus increasingly working behind the scenes, WhatsApp could evolve from a simple chat app into an AI-powered marketplace where agents communicate, transact and manage parts of your business automatically.
Finally, Alex and Amir explore the SpaceX IPO, major share unlocks and the new wave of tech liquidity. If billions of dollars start moving out of newly public technology companies, where does that capital flow next - and what could it mean for AI, startups and future IPOs?
The central question connecting all three stories:
If products are becoming easier to build, is control over distribution, communication and capital becoming the ultimate competitive moat?
Main Themes
Why Telegram temporarily disappeared from Apple’s App Store
Apple vs Telegram on privacy, moderation and platform control
Pavel Durov vs Mark Zuckerberg: two very different founder philosophies
Jack Dorsey’s BitChat and censorship-resistant messaging
Why messaging apps are becoming the next digital marketplaces
How WhatsApp + AI agents could become a superapp
Why Meta may combine messaging, AI, payments and commerce
Kunal Shah, FreeCharge, CRED and the power of distribution
Why distribution may become more valuable than the product itself
The SpaceX IPO, share unlocks and the next wave of tech liquidity
Why public markets could force greater transparency from technology companies
Why Big Tech is increasingly hiring founders, not just executives

Apple vs OpenAI LAWSUIT - EU Chat Control EXPLAINED - New FIFA Tech (Ep. 25)
2026/07/24
Summary
What happens when AI companies move beyond chatbots and begin competing for the people, hardware and data needed to control the next computing platform?
Alex and Amir examine the reported Apple vs OpenAI lawsuit, OpenAI’s push into physical AI and the increasingly blurry line between recruiting exceptional talent and acquiring a competitor’s intellectual property.
They then unpack the debate around Google’s AI-generated summaries, corporate responsibility and EU Chat Control. Should AI companies be legally accountable when automated systems influence what people believe? And can governments protect citizens without creating an infrastructure for mass surveillance?
The conversation ends with the new technology transforming the FIFA World Cup - from connected footballs and semi-automated offsides to VAR, referee cameras and AI-assisted decision-making.
The central question connecting all three stories:
Does technology make the rules fairer - or simply give more power to whoever controls the system?
Main Themes
Apple vs OpenAI and the battle for AI hardware talentWhy devices and personal memory could become the next AI moatTalent mobility versus trade-secret protectionGoogle AI summaries and corporate accountabilityEU Chat Control, privacy and public safetyHow algorithmic systems influence opinionsSmart footballs, VAR and semi-automated offsidesWhy underdogs cannot beat dominant players using the same playbook

2026/02/05
Summary:
From the massive rollout of Australia’s social media ban to Iran’s total internet blackout and the commercial launch of Boston Dynamics' Atlas, 2026 is exposing a darker, more controlled reality for global technology.
In this episode of The TrickCast, Alex Siletsky & Amir Abdelazim go beyond the headlines to reveal how governments and tech giants are reclaiming control over the digital landscape.
We discuss why being "offline" is now a geopolitical weapon and how the next decade of robotics is shifting from entertainment to industrial dominance.
This episode connects three industry-shaking stories:
The Age of the Great Ban — Australia has officially deactivated over 4.7 million social media accounts for users under 16. We analyze the global ripple effect as Europe and the UK consider following suit -and the uncomfortable question: is this about safety, or state-level control over the next generation’s ideology?
Digital Darkness in Iran - A total communications blackout has left 92 million people without a voice amid historic protests. We explore the technical "kill switches" used by dictatorships and the urgent global debate on whether internet access should finally be declared a fundamental human right.
Atlas Goes Commercial — After decades of "dancing" prototypes, Boston Dynamics’ all-electric Atlas has entered production. With its first fleets shipping to major manufacturing partners, we break down the roadmap for robots to enter nursing homes and medical roles by 2028.
