The Ghosts of Marriage Past: How to Let Go After Divorce
2026/10/29
How do you let go after divorce when the marriage is over, but the memories, regrets, unanswered questions, and old emotions are still there? In this Halloween episode of The Conscious Divorce Podcast, let's explore the “ghosts of marriage past” and why moving on after divorce is rarely as simple as getting closure. You may no longer want your ex back and still grieve the future you thought you would have. You may replay old arguments, wait for an apology that never comes, struggle with regret, or wonder who you are now that the marriage has ended. In this episode, you’ll learn how to: • Understand grief and ambiguous loss after divorce • Tell the difference between missing your ex and mourning your old future • Stop replaying arguments and unanswered conversations • Look at your marriage without romanticizing or rewriting the past • Rebuild your identity after divorce • Turn regret into useful lessons instead of shame • Communicate with an ex without bringing the whole marriage into every conversation • Stop feeding the memories that keep you stuck • Let go even when you never receive closure The goal isn’t to erase your marriage or pretend it didn’t matter. It’s to stop letting your past make decisions about your future. We Both Got Divorced at 50. Here’s What It Taught Us
2026/10/08
Divorce at 50 can feel like starting your life over. In this episode, two men who both got divorced at 50 share what they learned about divorce after 50, marriage, parenting, and rebuilding your life. In this episode of The Conscious Divorce Podcast, Justin Milrad talks with longtime friend David Levin, author of A Divorced Dad’s Playbook for the Still Married. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HL73ZQ8Z David discovered something unexpected after his marriage ended. Many of the lessons divorce forced him to learn were skills that could have made him a better husband while he was still married. Together, Justin and David discuss how to tell the difference between a marriage that has lost some important skills and one with deeper foundational problems. They also talk about rebuilding after divorce at 50, dealing with an empty house, co-parenting, relationships with your children, money conversations, boundaries, communication, and creating a meaningful second half of life. In this conversation: 00:00 Is your marriage actually fixable? 04:25 Why a divorced dad wrote a marriage book 16:29 What a “fine” marriage really looks like 19:01 Skills problems vs. foundation problems 24:23 How to know when the problem runs deeper 27:15 The moment David knew his marriage was ending 29:34 The empty house and rebuilding at 50 35:16 Systems that make co-parenting easier 38:16 Money, resentment, and financial communication 42:25 Stonewalling and relationship patterns 45:09 What boundaries actually mean 47:21 Finding happiness after divorce at 50 51:11 The lessons David wants people to remember 54:51 Four takeaways from the conversation 55:48 Marriage assessment, books, and resources David Levin is the author of A Divorced Dad’s Playbook for the Still Married, a practical guide built from the relationship lessons he learned after divorce. Whether you are questioning your marriage, currently going through divorce, or rebuilding afterward, the goal is not simply to survive the experience. Don’t Wait for the Iceberg: Warning Signs Before Divorce
2026/10/01
Most divorces do not come completely out of nowhere. The warning signs often appear months or even years earlier. The question is whether you recognize them and change course before the situation becomes a crisis. The Titanic received multiple ice warnings before the collision. Many of those warnings were acknowledged, but acknowledging a warning is not the same as acting on it. In this episode, I use the Titanic disaster as a framework for understanding the warning signs that can appear in a marriage, during divorce, and even in co-parenting after the divorce is final. We’ll look at why capable people can recognize problems without responding to them, how small relationship patterns can become bigger problems over time, and why silence does not always mean everything is okay. I’ll also walk you through the Bridge Protocol, a four-step system: Log. Route. Read. Turn. The goal is simple: identify patterns, get important concerns to the right place, understand what those patterns are telling you, and make small course corrections while you still have room to maneuver. We also discuss warning signs in co-parenting, including repeated logistics problems, increasingly hostile communication, children being used as messengers, and situations where important information stops being shared. If something in your marriage or co-parenting relationship has been telling you that things are not quite right, don’t wait until the iceberg is directly in front of you. Chapters 00:00 The Titanic received the warnings 02:00 The seven ice warnings 06:40 Why the Titanic did not slow down 08:40 The normalization of warning signs 10:20 Two Titanic myths worth correcting 12:00 Warning signs inside a marriage 13:40 What relationship research tells us 15:40 When your spouse stops sending warnings 18:00 Why couples wait to get help 19:10 Why smart people fail to change course 20:30 The Bridge Protocol 21:00 Step 1: Log the warnings 22:00 Step 2: Route the warning 23:00 Step 3: Read the pattern 24:00 Step 4: Turn early 26:00 Preparing without assuming divorce 27:00 When the turn is toward divorce 28:00 The second ice field after divorce 30:00 Warning signs in co-parenting 33:00 How to change course after divorce 35:00 The Carpathia response 37:30 The belief that keeps you at full speed 39:00 What to do next If you are facing divorce and want help thinking through your next steps, schedule a free 30-minute strategy session: www.reclaimandreboot.me/booking Related resources and episodes mentioned in this conversation: • Mutually Assured Destruction: understanding how co-parenting conflict escalates • Future-proofing your parenting plan • Why co-parenting conflicts escalate and the BIFF communication method • The Five-Year Filter • Reclaim & Reboot books and divorce resources Divorce is too important to figure out as you go.
What’s Worth Fighting for in Divorce? Kids, Money, Boundaries & Safety
2026/09/24
What’s actually worth fighting for in divorce? Learn when to let go, when to set boundaries, and when your kids, money, legal rights, or safety require you to take action. Divorce can make every disagreement feel important, but not every conflict deserves the same amount of time, money, or emotional energy. In this episode, we break down how to separate everyday preferences from recurring patterns and genuine protection issues. You’ll learn how to tell the difference between a boundary and an attempt to control your ex, when a co-parenting problem needs a better process instead of another argument, what financial and legal issues deserve closer attention, and how to keep your children out of adult conflict. We also cover situations involving coercive control, addiction, safety concerns, and documentation, plus the HILL Check, a simple framework for deciding what is truly worth protecting.
