More than 24 years after the death of 13-year-old Christina Long, we revisit the case that devastated her family and shocked Danbury, Connecticut.At the center was Christina Long, a sixth-grade honor student, cheerleader, and altar girl who met 25-year-old Saul Dos Reis through an Internet chat room. On May 17, 2002, Christina met Dos Reis at the Danbury Fair Mall. Three days later, her body was found in a remote ravine in Greenwich after Dos Reis led investigators to her remains. Authorities determined that Christina had been strangled.This episode examines Christina’s life, her interactions with adults she met online, and the investigation that followed her death. On July 13, 2023, authorities arrested Rex Heuermann, a 59-year-old architect from Massapequa Park, in connection with the infamous Gilgo Beach murders that haunted investigators for more than a decade. The case first gained national attention after the 2010 disappearance of Shannan Gilbert, which led police to uncover multiple sets of human remains along Ocean Parkway near Gilgo Beach on Long Island.Among those discovered were the victims known as the “Gilgo Four” — four women in their 20s who worked as escorts and advertised on Craigslist. Their bodies were found wrapped in burlap within a mile of each other, suggesting the work of a serial killer.
