Not everyone makes it to May. From creative clashes to network interference, these cast members left 30 Rock before the season finale—and their exits changed the show forever. We're ranking the most shocking mid-season departures that left producers scrambling and audiences stunned.

In the spring of 1979, NBC's new president Fred Silverman wanted Saturday Night Live moved from 11:30 PM to 10 PM—a death sentence that would have killed the show's edgy, late-night identity. What happened next involved threatened resignations, a legendary showdown in a network boardroom, and the decision that would preserve SNL's place in television history. This is the untold story of the week Saturday Night Live almost ceased to exist.

For decades, two comedy institutions have sent their brightest stars to Studio 8H—but they couldn't be more different. From Belushi and Aykroyd's Chicago swagger to Wiig and Hartman's LA precision, we trace how The Groundlings and Second City created distinct comedy DNA that still defines SNL today. Which pipeline produced the better cast members?

From Tina Fey's Sarah Palin to Chevy Chase's Gerald Ford, some SNL impressions didn't just make us laugh—they shifted the national conversation and arguably changed history. We're counting down the political parodies that crossed from Studio 8H into actual campaign strategy rooms, with polling data and insider stories to prove these sketches had real-world consequences.

The Killer Bees were Lorne Michaels' favorite sketch, appearing in nearly every episode of Season 1. But when John Belushi hit his breaking point in 1978, the confrontation that followed revealed deep tensions about creative control, burnout, and what happens when a sketch overstays its welcome. We unpack the full story of SNL's strangest recurring bit and the rebellion that ended it.

When MADtv launched in 1995, it positioned itself as the edgier, more diverse alternative to SNL's establishment empire. We're breaking down how these two sketch powerhouses approached comedy differently—from SNL's celebrity hosts and political satire to MADtv's character-driven chaos and willingness to push boundaries—and examining which show truly won the cultural war.

Not every legendary SNL moment needs five minutes to make history. We're ranking seven sketches that clocked in under 90 seconds but launched catchphrases, inspired countless parodies, and became more iconic than sketches ten times their length—from 'Dick in a Box' to 'More Cowbell' alternatives that burned bright and fast.

When Tom Hanks hosted Saturday Night Live for the fifth time in 1990, the show created an instant institution: the Five-Timers Club. We're examining how this elite tradition began, the iconic sketch that started it all, and why earning that smoking jacket has become one of comedy's highest honors—from Hanks himself to the newest members of this very exclusive club.
