Weed Smarter not Harder
2026/09/15
Weeding in a no dig garden - well a few things to ponder here. Not all weeds are created equal. Are they actually doing good things for your soil, can they be chopped and dropped or can they be given a quick tug out of the soil? But, what if you are a devilish bit of buttercup or a clump of grass - well then you might just have to get the fork or digging utensil out for those guys. Not everything is black and white and in this episode Kath gives you some info to help you in a weeding dilemma. Gardening made accessible with wonderful gardening teacher and author Kath Irvine. Losing your garden mojo
2026/08/11
Mojo gone over winter? Catherine "asking for a friend" how to get your mojo back in the garden. If your enthusiasm has gone into hibernation, then fear not. It's also gardening if you just wander around a bit looking vaguely interested so - go into the garden and look at it a bit. Go out in your best warm jumper, with a hat and a nice warm cuppa and just wander around fairly aimlessly. It's OK. Then sometime soon, stick something in the ground, like a pea or a broad bean. Soon the lovely things in your garden will spring back into life - as will you. Gardening made accessible with wonderful gardening teacher and author Kath Irvine. Shelter trees and hedges
2026/08/04
Hedges/trees/wind breaks - stop before you buy, dig, or plant them. How big is that tree/shrub/hedge going to grow? You may not want to spend time every year trying to tame an enormous growth - you may give up one year and say "nay she'll be right" only to have a day of the triffids scenario on your hands. So take some time to think about what to plant - is it a mix of trees, can you use natives that better suit the soil, are we going head back and sides kind of a deal or just a quick trim of something a little dreamier each year? Things to ponder when you are considering that wind and plant protection in the garden. Might save you a HEAP of time and effort later.
