Two Rhode Island men, Edward Hazard and Robert Evans, are facing serious federal charges for allegedly running a major crack cocaine operation — with Hazard acting as the dealer and Evans as the supplier. Over six months, they allegedly made multiple drug deals in North Providence, using surveillance, phone records, and aerial footage to link their movements. Authorities found over 4,000 dollars, drugs, scales, and phones during Evans’ arrest for a separate violation — all pointing to a well-organized, high-volume trafficking ring. A federal judge in Rhode Island just slammed the Trump administration for illegally shutting down a $7 billion solar program designed to bring clean energy to 900,000 low-income families — calling it a blatant overreach by the EPA. The ruling confirms Congress intended these funds for solar projects, and the court’s decision could reignite hope for communities counting on this life-changing investment. Advocates hailed the win as a victory for equity and climate action, stressing that clean energy must be accessible to all — not just the privileged few. With the EPA now reviewing the decision and likely preparing to appeal, this isn’t an isolated case — courts have already sided with nonprofits fighting similar cancellations from the same $27 billion climate fund, signaling a growing legal tide against executive overreach on clean energy programs. Three people got arrested on Route 146 in Lincoln after allegedly hurling dangerous objects—including a cigarette lighter, lug wrench, and screwdriver—at moving vehicles. Jyesenia Ohagan and Johnny Crespo, both from Providence, were held at the ACI while already on bail for other charges. Allen Marks, from Woonsocket, faced additional disorderly conduct charges and was released pending court. This chaotic road incident serves as a stark reminder: stay calm behind the wheel. Independent gubernatorial candidate Ken Block is surging in the final stretch, positioning himself as the change Rhode Islanders need with bold policy proposals and a message that independents are the largest voting bloc. He’s pushing for healthcare cost reforms, government transparency, and criticizing the timing of state primaries — all while framing his candidacy as a pragmatic alternative to current leadership. Meanwhile, Republican Aaron Guckian narrowly clinched his primary, pledging balanced governance amid soaring costs and a $15 billion budget. Behind the scenes, political staff are shifting, reporters are moving on, and a local event honors a late journalist with a scholarship fund — all signs of a rapidly evolving race. The U.S. Department of Justice has issued a stern warning to Rhode Island’s Secretary of State, Gregg Amore, demanding he preserve all 2024 election records amid an ongoing legal battle over voter data. The DOJ’s September 4 letter, tied directly to existing litigation, warns that destroying documents could trigger serious consequences. This follows a prior lawsuit from December — initially dismissed but now on appeal — over Amore’s refusal to hand over sensitive voter rolls. While the DOJ insists this is not a new investigation, critics view it as part of a broader pattern of pressure on election officials, especially as the federal deadline for record retention loomed. Rhode Island’s economic squeeze is hitting hard: nearly 43% of households are working multiple jobs yet still can’t afford rent, food, and basics — a grim reality labeled ALICE. Marginalized communities, especially Black and Hispanic families, bear the brunt, trapped in unstable service-sector roles. With lawmakers urged to rethink tax policies and support small businesses, the call is clear: real solutions must address how everyday Rhode Islanders survive — not just survive, but thrive. A Connecticut teen, Nicholas Kreidel, faced serious charges after a high-speed police chase in Massachusetts that ended with spike strips and body cam footage capturing the danger. Though initial charges were dropped, prosecutors revived them amid a state-wide crackdown on reckless driving. Kreidel, 19, claimed he didn’t stop because he’d just come from a social media car event — but the officer saw it as an excuse for dangerous behavior. In court, he didn’t plead guilty but admitted enough evidence existed. Now on six-month administrative probation and required to complete “Brains at Risk,” his case could be dismissed if he stays trouble-free — a surprisingly lenient outcome for a multi-agency pursuit that put lives at risk.
