On this episode Matt and fellow trick or treating enthusiast Eric Shonborn spend Halloween on the moon talking about 1996's LOBO/DEMON: HELLOWEEN. With spooooooooky season hitting the halfway point it was about dang time that Matt enjoyed a comic being covered on the show.  And boy oh boy, Matt indeed LOVES this comic.  It's about The Demon tricking Lobo to do a job for him on the moon and eventually they both have to fight a world devouring dragon because it wants to eat them instead of Earth.  It's a blast!   So naturally Eric doesn't like it.  Fun is not his favorite.  But he does come around to enjoying the comic a little more after being hounded relentlessly by Matt.  Matt is the fun police.  The good kind. Plus, Eric warns of the peril posed by bringing Lobo to an open bar.  He also wonders why people expect stories to justify their own existence? On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Frank Pittarese quickly come to the realization that they would rather face down an army of the undead than talk about 1994's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: ZOMBIE GENESIS #1. Technically this is a comic "based on" Matt's second favorite movie of all time, 1968's NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.  But honestly, associating this comic with the movie at all is a gigantic insult to the movie.  If anything, this comic is more of a BAYWATCH "parody", which is not something one would expect when picking up a comic called NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Look, it's a really terrible, no good, horrendous, painful, downright awful comic - so Matt and Frank do their best to avoid talking about it, like the way you avoid making direct eye contact with a crazy person. Instead, Matt talks at length (big surprise there) about how and why NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD became such a significant part of his life, while Frank puts his years of editorial experience to use and explains to the listening audience what it takes to put together a successful comic based on a licensed property (spoiler alert: Frank wants all of you aspiring creators to do nothing that the creators of this "comic" did). Oh, and this comic isn't called NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD: ZOMBIE GENESIS, it's just NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD - but Matt finds that offensive on levels heretofore unknown, so he's added ZOMBIE GENESIS to the title.  It doesn't make the comic better, but it does further separate it from the movie, and today that counts as a win. On this episode Matt and the man responsible for teaching Michael Myers to drive, Bobby Trippett (co-host of the GRINDBIN PODCAST) hide in some bushes and yell at that little jerk Lonnie to get his ass away from the show so they can discuss 2000's HALLOWEEN #1. This is a comic based on Matt's all-time favorite movie, which means Bobby is as good as confined to Smith's Grove Sanitarium, forced to listen to near endless rantings of a lunatic, "Bobby, I watched the movie SIX TIMES (today)!" Bobby displays the patience of a man who is staring at a wall, not seeing the wall, looking past the wall to a time when Matt has finished attempting to create a verbal visual aid to help listeners better understand the different Halloween timelines.  It goes about as well as one would expect from Matt. On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Bobby Trippett (from the GRINDBIN PODCAST) try their best to be totally radical and like, you know, all that and a bag of chips while discussing 1994's GENERATION X #1. If listeners should expect anything from X-Men related episodes of Chromium, it's that Matt really doesn't know anything about the X-Men family - but does that stop him from constantly interrupting and talking over Bobby (the actual expert on the topic)?  Nope, not at all.  In fact, he does it more than usual.  There's a reason the episode clocks in at just over three hours.  That reason's name is Matt. On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Robby Robertson try to figure out why someone would even want to eat the bitter fruit of a weed while discussing 1995's THE SHADOW AND DOC SAVAGE #'s 1 and 2. Matt and Robby have been friends in the podcast world for a few years now, but Matt realized that he really didn't know anything about Robby - like is he really a chef?  And a doctor?  Does he really come from Georgia?  The answer to all of those is yes, but that barely scratches the surface of just how cool Robby is. On this episode Matt and Ian try their best to avoid being sassed by Cataclysm while they talk about 1994's PRIMAL FORCE #2! The issue by issue discussion of PRIMAL FORCE continues! Before getting into PRIMAL FORCE #2 Matt tells Ian all about their beloved Jack O'Lantern's first appearance, which can best be described as charmingly dark.  Then Matt tries to verbally edit a joke he tells in this episode into the previous episode.  He still has no idea how podcasts work. Then it's time for the big showdown: The Leymen (remember they are NOT called Primal Force) versus Cataclysm...in a park! It's a great fight because we see the villain get punched in the butt by a creature made of clay. Also, Ian puts a real fine point on the downside of being friends with Meridian.  Or if you like being handed a baby by someone who just teleported into your apartment in the middle of the afternoon while you're only wearing a shirt, then Ian really shines a light on the upside of being friends with Meridian. On this episode Matt and special guest co-hosts A. Lee Martinez (author of UNBEARABLE - available now!) and David Walton (recovering from eye surgery now!) try to decide which one of them is going to be sacrificed while the other two eat ice cream and discuss 1993's RAVER #1. On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Corey Blake try to avoid getting their butts kicked as they discuss the kick butt 1993 kick butt comic NIGHT THRASHER #1 (starring the kick butt Night Thrasher who does indeed kick butt). On this episode Matt and special guest co-host Bryan Q. Miller (writer of BATGIRL, SMALLVILLE, HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE) try their best to not breathe in the congealed air while discussing 1981's BATMAN VS. THE INCREDIBLE HULK. Both Matt and Bryan spent time working at Borders Books (RIP) so their conversation begins by talking extensively about BINC stickers and the prominent role they played in their lives.  It's a trip down memory lane that doubles as a therapeutic exorcism of some bad memories for Matt.  More importantly, Bryan talks about how he went from working at Borders to writing for SMALLVILLE and the BATGIRL series starring Stephanie Brown (which, most importantly to Matt, is his second favorite series of all time). On this episode Matt and special guest co-Doctor Occult superfan Matthew Dow Smith (writer/artist of AMELIA SHADOWS, THE OCTOBER GIRL) try to determine if "pleasure can really be such amusing gallows" (WTF?) by discussing 1994's VERTIGO VISIONS: DOCTOR OCCULT. If you like extremely deep dives on characters most people haven't even heard of it (and face it, if you're listening to this show - you do) then this episode is truly for you! Both Matt and Matthew are outspoken Doctor Occult fans, but interestingly, their love is each rooted in a different aspect of the character.  Although, a bit of a spoiler alert here: the Doctor Occult they love is NOT present in this Vertigo Visions one-shot. BUT the fact that this is a wildly different take on the character does make for a great conversation. Along the way Matt gives Matthew a great idea for a story, but when he asks to have a character named after him he gets turned down for the most Matt reason of all time (and it's not because he talks about Night Man all of the time).
