Episode #21 || Is Hot Wheels RLC Overhyped? MotorHelix Raises the Bar for 1:64!
2026/08/10
Welcome to Episode 21 of The Diecast Podcast, where Matt (@minicarrealm) and Ben (@boyracerben) dive into another huge round of diecast news, new releases and questionable purchasing decisions.   This episode, we take a closer look at the final Hot Wheels RLC Selections Porsche 959 in Spectraflame Purple with its new gold Real Rider wheels. It looks good… but with the incredible level of detail we’re now seeing elsewhere in the 1:64 market, does RLC still justify the hype?   That question gets even harder when we get our best look yet at the upcoming MotorHelix 1:64 models. Opening doors, bonnets and boots, detailed engines and some seriously impressive panel gaps — the R34 GT-R, Liberty Walk R35, RX-7, Ford GT40 and Pagani Zonda have us wondering whether MotorHelix is about to set a new benchmark for premium 1:64.   We also check out one of our favourite announcements of the episode: the Pop Race x Liberty Walk x American Diorama race team, complete with Mercedes-AMG GT3, transporter and matching pit crew. Add in another strong batch of Mini GT releases — including that stunning green Porsche 911 GT3 Touring — and there’s plenty competing for the diecast budget this month.   Elsewhere in Episode 21: • Hot Wheels Boulevard #161–165 and the new Larry Chen Datsun 240Z • Hot Wheels Deutschland Design and the latest 10th Anniversary gold chase • The latest Hot Wheels Pop Culture set and another 007 Lotus Esprit • The newly confirmed Hot Wheels Australasian Expo R34 Skyline • The upcoming Matchbox movie starring John Cena and Jessica Biel • Mini GT’s latest releases and Hyundai N Performance collection • BBR Ferrari finally gets brake detail! • New Kaido House R32, E30, Silverado and VW T1 releases • Pop Race Dark Chrome and new RE Amemiya RX-7 • WORKS Model R33 Le Mans, S2000 and 350Z 380RS • INNO64 D-Stans — cool diecast accessory or completely ridiculous? • Dear Diecast Gods: Jaguar XJ220 & Mazda 6 MPS • Hidden Gem: an incredibly detailed 1957 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa • And why one listener has built an entire collection without owning a single RLC!   💬 We want to hear from you: Is Hot Wheels RLC genuinely worth the hype, or would you rather spend your money on something from MotorHelix, Pop Race or Mini GT?   And while you’re down there, tell us where you’re watching from! We see you tuning in from Australia, the USA and around the world, and we want to know just how far The Diecast Podcast is reaching. 🌏   A massive thank you to our sponsor COVAL Displays for supporting The Diecast Podcast. 🎙️ THE DIECAST PODCAST – EPISODE 20 | Featuring Preludeboy99 We’ve hit Episode 20 of The Diecast Podcast, and to celebrate the milestone we’re bringing a third opinion to the table! Matt ( @MiniCarRealm ) and Ben ( @boyracerben ) are joined by special guest Isaiah aka  @preludeboy99 , known for his honest and sometimes brutally critical takes on Hot Wheels, RLC and the wider diecast collecting hobby. And with three collectors at the table, there are definitely three different opinions. 👀 🔥 In Episode 20 we discuss: • Why Preludeboy99 quit Hot Wheels RLC — and whether he’ll ever return • RLC Overdrive, scalpers and the frustrations facing everyday collectors • Is scalping actually a sign of a healthy collecting hobby? • The upcoming RLC Nissan 720 King Cab and Gunmetal R32 Skyline • Hot Wheels HKS Diorama Set • Rexy Team Transport — did Hot Wheels miss the mark? • Our favourite Hot Wheels RLC releases of all time • The latest Mini GT releases and James Bond 007 collection • Pop Race Pagani Zonda R, RWB Porsche and Mazda 787B • Thailand Diecast Expo exclusives • Inno64 Liberty Walk, Mad Mike and Pandem releases • Micro Turbo NSX, S2000 and Lamborghini Diablo • CM Model BMW E30, Dodge Viper and Ford GT • Our latest Dear Diecast Gods picks • Ben’s latest Hidden Gem Isaiah also discovers just how dangerous leaving the Hot Wheels bubble can be when we introduce him to even more Mini GT, Pop Race, Micro Turbo, Inno64 and CM Model releases. His wallet may never recover. Plus, we finish by talking dream cars — including the Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R and Ferrari Testarossa. 🏁 Whether you collect Hot Wheels, Mini GT, Pop Race, Kaido House, Inno64, Micro Turbo or anything else in 1:64 scale, this episode is packed with new releases, collector opinions and plenty of disagreement. Episode #13 || Naruto Fever, Ferrari Manifesting, & Cobra Confusion
2026/03/29
Episode 13 of The Diecast Podcast delivers apologies, outrage, and more Ferrari speculation than ever before. Right out of the gate, Matt finally admits defeat after being called out for his wild Tomica Limited Vintage Neo accusations - Ben demands evidence, the AI betrays Matt, and Tomica officially walks away undefeated. Justice is served. From there, it’s full throttle: 🔥 Hot Wheels drama explodes – The Mattel Revealed Event drops a stunning (and completely inaccessible) Naruto‑themed S15, sparking debate over hype, licensing, and scalper madness. 🎮 Elite64 nostalgia hits hard – The PlayStation‑liveried Porsche has both hosts frothing, while the Liberty Walk R32 Silhouette gets a cautious but curious breakdown. 💗 RLC controversy deepens – A candy‑pink drag Challenger divides opinion, but things really kick off when Matt breaks down the baffling global pricing, shipping timelines, and sell‑out chaos of the RLC AC Cobra - Australia, the US and UK all playing by different rules. 🐎 Ferrari Manifestation continues – Ben doubles down hard on his RLC Ferrari F40 prophecy, and by the end of the episode… it feels less like speculation and more like destiny. Then things go international: 🇨🇳 Diecast chaos in Shenzhen – Fighting, queue‑cutting, closed booths and event exclusives gone wild at the Cool Car Show, including GCD’s jaw‑dropping diamanté‑covered VIP truck that may have literally shut the show down. 🦖 Mini GT drops Rexy (again) – Love it or hate it, Rexy No.3 sparks a debate on hype fatigue vs collector loyalty. 🏎️ Kaido House overload – Police Kaido Stars, HKS Skylines, NASCAR‑inspired R33s and Jun Imai doing Jun Imai things. 🟣 Pop Race domination continues – Chrome RWBs, the iconic Apple Porsche with American Diorama mini‑finger, a DC5 Mugen Integra, and yet another reason Pop Race is owning 1:64 right now. 🧪 XCarToys keep innovating – Interchangeable pop‑up headlights on an RX‑7 prove they’re still pushing boundaries. 📦 Tarmac Works changes the game – Blister packaging enters the chat, Liberty Walk Miuras appear, and even the boys admit some restraint… briefly. 🚜 Almost Real enters the arena – Ultra‑detailed Camel Trophy Land Rovers blur the line between model and miniature museum piece. 💡 Hidden Gem of the Week – Ben brings a curveball: a WhelArt Evo III with working lights off the base and an actual Evo key included. Genius or gimmick? The jury’s still out. 🧹 Audience Question – A fan favourite closes the episode with a real collector dilemma: How do you actually cull a growing diecast collection? Matt and Ben get brutally honest about FOMO buys, emotional attachment, gifting, selling… and why neither of them would survive as scalpers. Packed with laughs, rants, insider takes and genuine collector insight, Episode 13 is one of the biggest and most revealing episodes yet—and somehow still finds time to tease Episode 14.
Episode #12 || Purple RWBs, Hauler Debates, and AI Betrayal
2026/03/13
Buckle up—Episode 12 of The Diecast Podcast is here, and it kicks off with absolute scenes as Ben hijacks Matt's intro… and almost his job. From there, the boys dive headfirst into one of the juiciest chats yet across Hot Wheels, Mini GT, Pop Race, Kaido House, Tarmac Works and more. This episode delivers: 🚗 RLC highs and lows – The guys break down the new Datsun 510 drop, the AC Cobra debate, and whether the latest RLC Selections Nova is worth the $90 AUD splurge. 🔥 Mini GT March lineup – Ben and Matt predict each other’s picks… and somehow nail it. Mostly. 💡 Pop Race domination – More GR86s, Zonda Rs, and those eye‑watering Vancouver event exclusives (including that purple RWB). 🛻 Hauler mania – The boys discuss the Kaido Hauler as Pop Race enters the hauler game with a wild price point. 🏁 X-Car Toys drifting madness – The boys lose it over a raw E46 drift build that’s unlike anything in 1:64. 🏆 Tarmac Works vs Mini GT – The LB head‑to‑head begins, with castings and stance under the microscope. 🔧 Behind the factory doors – A surprising Motor Helix assembly video leaves both hosts suddenly very forgiving about door gaps. 😂 AI scandals & collector banter – Ben fakes a diecast preview with AI and fools Matt completely. As always, the community gets a massive shoutout, and the boys decide whether Episode 13 is on the cards… or if Episode 12 was meant to be the finale. Spoiler alert: the contract has been “extended.” If you love diecast, collecting drama, Hot Wheels rumours, premium brand breakdowns, or just two mates roasting each other—this episode is for you.
