Imagination Draw Along is an intentionally calm and low stimulation show for kids who want to draw. I'll guide young artists through drawing prompts, telling stories and sharing history about the topics we draw. Kids are encouraged to use their imaginations and make decisions as they draw. One of the goals is to build self-confidence because we know there's no wrong way to do art! Hi, I’m your host, Aunt Dewey. I’m a former New York City kindergarten teacher. Now I work in tech teaching adults how to use various software, platforms, and programs. I started Imagination Draw Along because I think a low-stim, screen-free experience is good for kids and aspiring artists. We move slowly on purpose. I encourage listeners to make their own artistic choices as they follow along. It’s a light hearted show that helps build critical thinking skills by guiding the imagination through wonder. Episodes are 10-15 minutes long. New episodes will be available every Tuesday and Thursday. (I recently transitioned from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). Thanks for drawing with me today!

Let's draw a racoon sneaking through the garbage [Happy Earth Day!]

Today, in honor of Earth Day and Earth Month, I want to draw a racoon digging through the trash bin to eat some discarded food. We'll draw a trash bin, a cute and mischievous raccoon, and lots of garbage. We'll wonder about where so much garbage comes from and if we can do anything to create less trash--even if it makes the racoon a little sad. Why do raccoons and trash pandas like to eat from humans’ trash cans? What’s one way you can take good care of the earth?If your garbage can super full, why do you think that is?

Let's draw a tree house

Today I want to draw a tree house. The tree house can be a place call our own and feel safe. We'll start with a big strong tree trunk and branches. Then a tree house with a door and window. And we'll add a few different creative ways to get up and down. There will be lots of artistic choices to be made, like the shape of the window, and what kind of swing the tree house should have. Here are a few things your imagination can wonder about: When you look around outside, do you see any trees with branches where a tree house could go?Why is it important to have multiple ways to get up and down into your tree house?If you had a tree house, would you invite people in, or let it be your own special place?

Let's draw a scientist

Today I want to draw a scientist, or better yet a scientist version of you! We'll think about how we'd feel if were making something. We'll add classic crazy hair and safety goggles. Of course, we'll have a table full of different beakers. The artist's imagination will decide what the scientist is concocting. Oh, and we'll draw a special tiny helper for the scientist. Here are 3 things your imagination can wonder about: What quiet chemical reactions can you see around you? What cool concoction did you make up and what does it do?Why is it important that artist and scientists are so good at making observations and noticing details?

Let's draw a helpful robot!

Today I want to draw a helpful robot. Some parts of him light up, some stretch. He really wants to help! But what's the best way for a robot to be helpful? And how can we keep the robot dry so he doesn't get sparky? Today I want to draw a pirate ship! We'll draw the ship, the sails, the mast, and a pirate. Maybe the pirate is you! Of course, we'll draw a treasure chest and you get to decide that's inside. Here are 3 things your imagination can wonder about: If you had a pirate ship, where would sail it? What would you want to keep in your treasure chest?Why do pirates like parrots so much?

Let's draw a dinosaur scene

Today I want to draw dinosaurs. We'll draw a huge brontosaurus with a very long neck and tail, a scary tyrannosaurus rex with sharp teeth, and pterodactyl flying through the air. We'll draw a pond between the carnivore and herbivore so nobody gets eaten for lunch! And I'll add one more sill layer of protection to keep our brontosaurus safe.

Today I want to draw a circus. Maybe the ring master is you! We'll draw an elephant, a lion, and an acrobat flying from one trapeze bar to another. It's up to the artist to add a circus act that I may have forgotten. Here are 3 things you're imagination can wonder about, if you'd like to revisit. If you went to a circus, what would you hope to see?How do those trapeze swingers stay safe up there?If you ran a circus, how would you make sure they animals and people were taken care of?

Let's draw a lamb by a stream

2026/03/30

March goes in like a lion and comes out like a lamb. It's the perfect day to draw a couple of little lambs playing in a field next to a stream. We'll make sure the field is full of glass and flowers so the lambs can eat. These lambs are a bit mischievous, so we'll have to draw some ways to keep track of them.

Let's draw an aquarium (this one has a made up fish)

Today I want to draw an aquarium. We'll draw two types of fish, two clean up critters--a shrimp and a snail, and most importantly a critter that YOU get to make up. Here are 3 things we'll wonder about if you'd like to revisit the topics: Why do you think underwater critters so colorful?Fish like to hide sometimes and people like to hide sometimes. Why?If you wanted to make up something to draw, where could you find inspiration?

Today I want to draw a visit to the dentist. We'll draw ourselves in the dentist chair, and the dentist too. We will draw many of the tools the dentist uses and I'll tell you a little bit about what they do. Some people love the dentist, but I am someone who gets nervous there. So! I'll also share my tips on how to stay brave and overcome dentist anxiety. Oh, did I mention that you have to look a little silly at the dentist?

Today we'll draw a hot air balloon in the sky. Hot air balloons traditionally have a lot of colors or wild patterns. Who will be in the basket? You! And someone to help you navigate. We'll also draw someone on the ground waving up at you.

Today I want to draw a spring garden-- it's finally spring, after all! Today's drawing will start with 2 flowers and then you can add more of course. We'll plant some tomatoes on a vine. And we'll draw a butterfly, a buzzing bee, and a worm. Happy spring!

Today we are celebrating circles on Pi Day (3.14) by drawing a wacky, silly pizza. Maybe we'll have some normal toppings like cheese and pepperoni, but our imaginations are going to add the silliest toppings we can think of!
