Brewers, Rays, and Clots
2026/10/21
The 2026 World Series is here, and the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays have a lot more in common than anyone wants to admit. Forget the underdog stories. These are two No. 1 seeds, two organizations built to win, and two teams whose cultures have made sustained success possible despite payroll limitations, roster turnover, and constant challenges. Now one of them will win its first World Series championship.
On this episode of Injury Territory, Will Carroll and Edward Egros break down the Brewers vs. Rays matchup, the players who could swing the series, the pitching decisions that matter, and the statistical edges that could determine who takes home the trophy. From scouting and player development to bullpen management and October pressure, we look at why these teams keep winning and what happens when their philosophies collide.
Plus, two major NFL injuries with very different medical challenges. Jalen Hurts is out for the season after blood clots traveled to his lungs. Will explains pulmonary embolisms, why clot movement changes everything, and what treatment and recovery mean for an NFL quarterback. Terry McLaurin has suffered a ruptured patellar tendon, an injury that can be more difficult to recover from than an ACL tear. We explain the biomechanics, surgical challenges, and why returning to elite performance is such a difficult road.
Baseball's biggest stage. Football's toughest injuries. The science, strategy, and stories behind both.
It's Injury Territory, deep in October.

Jalen Hurts is OUT with a blood clot in his calf, raising serious questions about his health, his return to the Philadelphia Eagles, and the risks of playing football with a vascular injury. How dangerous is Hurts' blood clot? Could it travel to his lungs? And what can we learn from other professional athletes who've dealt with similar conditions? On this episode of Injury Territory, sports injury expert Will Carroll breaks down the medical details behind Hurts' unusual injury, explaining the difference between superficial blood clots and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), the potential for pulmonary embolism, and what doctors need to see before clearing the Eagles quarterback to return. We're also looking at the NFL's growing quarterback injury concerns. Caleb Williams is working his way back from a hamstring tear, while Lamar Jackson continues to deal with an ankle injury that threatens one of the most dangerous parts of his game: his mobility. Then Edward Egros digs into the numbers behind quarterback injuries and defensive pressure. Are quarterbacks more likely to get injured when defenses bring pressure? Does pressure itself create injury risk, or do sacks, hits, and the decisions quarterbacks make under duress tell a more complicated story? Edward looks at the data to explain what happens when the pocket collapses. We also examine the Minnesota Vikings' concussion concerns, with T.J. Hockenson and Christian Darrisaw dealing with head injuries. What does the NFL concussion protocol actually tell us about recovery, and how do teams determine when a player is safe to return? From blood clots and hamstring tears to ankle injuries, concussions, and quarterback pressure, Injury Territory goes beyond the injury report to explain the medicine, the mechanics, and the numbers that matter.Subscribe to Injury Territory for expert NFL injury analysis, quarterback injury updates, return-to-play timelines, sports medicine insights, and the analytics behind the biggest stories in football. Will Carroll and Edward Egros bring medical expertise and data-driven analysis together to explain how injuries change games, teams, and careers.

Five Inches and Fastball Freddy
2026/10/14
What's wrong with Shohei Ohtani's swing? The Los Angeles Dodgers are fighting for a trip to the World Series, but their biggest star is struggling at the plate. Will Carroll digs into the Statcast data revealing that Ohtani is making contact five inches deeper than usual, despite maintaining elite bat speed. Why is he late? Could injuries, altered mechanics, or a timing problem explain his postseason struggles? And what does it mean for the Dodgers' World Series hopes?Meanwhile, Freddy Peralta has emerged as the Tampa Bay Rays' new ace, and Edward Egros wants to know why. What changed in Peralta's pitching arsenal, mechanics, and approach? Did the Rays wave their magic wand and transform another pitcher, or does the data reveal something more interesting? Edward breaks down the numbers behind Peralta's evolution and what it means for Tampa Bay's postseason run.Special guest Ryan Vaughn, founder of 9Strap, joins Injury Territory to discuss his journey to Shark Tank, the inspiration behind his innovative baseball safety product, and the challenges of bringing a new piece of protective equipment to market. Vaughn shares the story behind 9Strap, how his invention aims to improve player safety, and what he's learned about entrepreneurship, innovation, and the business of protecting athletes. It's a fascinating conversation about the intersection of baseball, sports medicine, and technology. Plus, the injuries, roster decisions, and pitching challenges that could determine who survives the LCS.In the NFL, the injury report is getting crowded. Judge Out, Stanton In - Yankees v Red Sox Emergency Pod
2026/09/29
Aaron Judge is OFF the Yankees’ Wild Card roster. Giancarlo Stanton is ON it. Yeah, that calls for an Injury Territory Emergency Pod.
Will Carroll and Edward Egros break down the Yankees’ decision to leave Aaron Judge off the roster despite his push to return, while Giancarlo Stanton gets the green light for the opening round. But this isn’t simply a question of which injured superstar is healthier. It changes almost everything about how New York can construct its lineup.
Who plays where? How much can Stanton realistically give the Yankees defensively? What combinations become possible without Judge on the roster—and which players suddenly become much more important? Will and Edward work through the permutations and what the decision tells us about where Judge actually is in his recovery.
Then there’s the team on the other side. Yankees–Red Sox rarely needs help generating drama, but this series has fascinating injury and matchup implications before the first pitch is even thrown. We look at Peyton Tolle in Game One, how his stuff matches up against this version of the Yankees lineup, and how Boston’s pitching options could shape the series beyond the opener.
October baseball is about stars, but it’s also about exploiting tiny advantages over a very short series. Without Judge—and with Stanton back—the strengths and weaknesses of this matchup have changed.Start your FOX One 3-day Free trial today at FOXOne.comKalshi - kalshi.com/r/BASEBALL Deposit and place at least $25 in total trades using code BASEBALL to unlock $55 reward. 18+ only. Thumps Up for Bregman, Thumbs Down for Mayfield
2026/09/28
It’s thumbs up for Alex Bregman, thumbs down for Baker Mayfield—and a very busy Monday on Injury Territory. Will Carroll starts with the remarkable return of Alex Bregman, who came back from facial fractures and promptly hit two home runs on Sunday. We look at what his performance tells us about the recovery, why facial fractures can create more problems than the injury initially suggests, and what Bregman’s return means heading into October. The news isn’t nearly as encouraging for Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers quarterback suffered a thumb UCL sprain, an injury that matters enormously for anyone whose job involves gripping and throwing a football. Will explains the anatomy, what determines whether the ligament can heal without surgery, when an internal-brace repair becomes an option, and why Mayfield could be looking at a significant recovery. With the MLB postseason here, we also dig into playoff rosters. October forces teams to make very different calculations about injured players: Who is healthy enough to contribute now? Who can survive a short series? And when does carrying an injured star create more problems than it solves? Then it’s back to the NFL, where apparently knees and ankles have decided they’d like some airtime too. We work through the latest NFL knee injuries and take a closer look at one wide receiver’s troublesome ankle—because the diagnosis on the injury report doesn't always tell you what actually matters for performance or return to play.

The QB Injury Crisis In Week 3
2026/09/25
So many quarterback injuries, so little time. Welcome to Football Friday on Injury Territory.
Will Carroll and Edward Egros start with Sam Darnold, who’s back after the hip subluxation and glute tendon issue that made his return more complicated than simply waiting for the joint to feel better. What should we expect from Darnold, what does his return mean for the Seattle Seahawks, and—because this is the NFL—what could it mean for your wallet? Then Edward’s research on how quarterbacks get hit suddenly becomes very real. We look at the injuries to Jaxson Dart and Jayden Daniels, the mechanisms behind them, and what the data can—and can’t—tell us about whether a particular kind of QB hit is more likely to lead to missed time. Sometimes the numbers answer the question. Sometimes football immediately finds a new way to complicate it.
We also explain what’s actually happening with Puka Nacua. His psoas/core issue is a good example of why “core injury” can be an almost useless description without understanding the anatomy, the demands placed on the muscle and what Nacua has to be able to do before he can play effectively again.
Finally, the San Francisco 49ers keep losing defenders, including Nick Bosa, and at some point the injury report stops being a list of unavailable players and starts becoming a question about whether a defense can still function. Will and Edward look at what San Francisco has left, what all those missing pieces mean together, and whether the 49ers can stop anyone while so much of their defense is standing on the sideline.
It’s Football Friday: injuries, mechanisms, return-to-play decisions, data and the injury intelligence you need before Sunday.Kalshi - kalshi.com/r/BASEBALL Deposit and place at least $25 in total trades using code BASEBALL to unlock $55 reward. 18+ only. The Judge-Ohtani Takeover
2026/09/23
Anyone getting Kirk Gibson vibes with big sluggers starting out the playoffs on the bench? Me too.
On today’s Injury Territory, Will Carroll and Edward Egros lead with the two superstars who have seemingly taken over the show during the second half of the season: Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.
With the MLB postseason about to begin, the question is no longer simply what’s hurt. Who will actually play in the first round, how close to full strength will they be, and how will the Yankees and Dodgers manage them when every game matters?
Will and Edward break down the latest information on Judge and Ohtani, separating what we know medically from the inevitable October speculation. Availability is one thing; being able to perform like Aaron Judge or Shohei Ohtani in a playoff game is another.
We also check back on Alex Bregman after taking a foul ball to the face and the facial fractures that followed. Will explains why this is more complicated than a particularly nasty black eye, with the bones of the midface playing an important role in structural stability, vision and function. There’s also an update on Jesús Luzardo as teams try to get their pitching lined up for October.
Beyond the training room, we look around baseball at the changing MLB managerial landscape. Which teams are making changes, which managers are under pressure, and how much can—or should—we separate the manager from the health and performance of the roster he was actually given?
Finally, Edward unveils something new: his Hitting Decision Trainer. Can you make the same swing-or-take decisions a hitter has to make with almost no time to think? Edward explains what he's built, what it can teach us about pitch recognition and decision-making, and then turns it over to you. Try the Hitting Decision Trainer yourself at the link: https://insidesportsanalytics.shinyapps.io/HitterDashboard/

Big Names, Bad Injuries in NFL, MLB
2026/09/21
It’s Monday, so Injury Territory is going a little Bo Jackson: two sports, one show, and plenty of injuries to sort through.
Will Carroll starts on the NFL side, checking in on Jayden Daniels, Jayden Reed, Caleb Williams and Alec Pierce. What do the latest injury reports actually tell us, what matters for return to play, and which issues could still affect performance even when a player is cleared to get back on the field? As always, the designation is only the beginning of the story.
Then we make the Bo Jackson switch and head to baseball, where Aaron Judge is once again the center of the injury conversation. Will looks at Judge’s latest issue, what it could mean for the Yankees, and what to watch as he works his way back. Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers seemingly have half the roster requiring an Injury Territory check-in, raising the familiar question of whether they can get healthy enough at the right time.
And then there’s Alex Bregman, who took a foul ball to the face. Will breaks down the immediate concerns after facial trauma, what teams and medical staffs are looking for, and why the aftermath can involve more than simply determining whether anything is broken.
Football injuries. Baseball injuries. Jayden Daniels and Aaron Judge on the same show. That makes it Bo Jackson Monday on Injury Territory—going beyond the injury report to explain the medicine, performance implications and return-to-play questions behind the biggest stories in sports.
For the latest on Jayden Daniels injury news, Jayden Reed injury updates, Caleb Williams injury, Alec Pierce injury, Aaron Judge injury news, Yankees injuries, Dodgers injury updates, Alex Bregman injury, NFL injuries, MLB injuries, fantasy football injury analysis, sports medicine and return-to-play timelines, subscribe to Injury Territory.

One of These Injuries is Bad
2026/09/18
One of this week’s NFL injury mysteries finally makes sense. Unfortunately, the answer isn’t especially good.
It’s Football Friday on Injury Territory, and Will Carroll and Edward Egros are back with the injury intelligence you need heading into the weekend. At the top of the show is Sam Darnold, where new information about a glute tendon issue helps explain what has been happening since his hip subluxation. Will connects the anatomy to the original injury: how abnormal movement of the femur can stress the gluteal tendons attached around the hip, and why getting the joint back into position doesn’t necessarily mean the surrounding soft tissue escaped unharmed.
The injury report doesn’t get much quieter from there. Will and Edward break down the latest on DJ Moore, Kyler Murray, Brock Bowers and Chris Olave, along with several other situations worth watching before kickoff. Which injuries are likely to affect availability? Which could affect performance even if the player is active? And which injury-report designations are creating more noise than useful information?
Then Edward goes into the data to ask a different kind of injury question: Which NFL quarterbacks are being put at risk by their own offensive lines? Pressure rate, protection and quarterback exposure aren’t the same thing as predicting an injury, but repeatedly putting a QB in bad situations creates more opportunities for bad things to happen. Edward looks for the quarterbacks spending too much time under pressure—and the offensive lines giving them too little help. It’s the intersection of sports medicine and football analytics that Football Friday is built for: understanding the injury, understanding the circumstances around it, and figuring out what actually matters before everyone starts panicking over a questionable designation.
For the latest on Sam Darnold’s hip and glute injury, DJ Moore injury news, Kyler Murray injury updates, Brock Bowers injury, Chris Olave injury news, NFL quarterback pressure, offensive line rankings, QB injury risk, fantasy football injuries, NFL sports medicine, return-to-play timelines and NFL injury analysis, it’s Football Friday on Injury Territory.
Better information. Better context. Injury intelligence.

Don't Panic about Aaron Judge or Blake Snell!
2026/09/17
Yankees fans: breathe. Dodgers fans: you too. It’s time for an Injury Territory emergency pod.
Aaron Judge has a leg issue. Blake Snell has a groin issue. And within minutes, two enormous fan bases began doing what enormous fan bases do best: imagining the worst possible outcome. Will Carroll and Edward Egros are here with an emergency edition of Injury Territory to separate what we actually know from everything people are afraid might happen.
First, Will breaks down the latest on Aaron Judge’s lower-leg injury, what the available information tells us, what it doesn’t tell us, and why Yankees fans shouldn’t automatically turn a new physical issue into a postseason catastrophe. With Judge, every limp becomes breaking news. The medical details and the way the Yankees manage him matter considerably more than the panic surrounding them.
Then it’s Blake Snell and his groin injury. With October approaching, anything involving a key Dodgers starter immediately raises questions about the playoff rotation. Will and Edward look at the mechanism, likely concerns, return-to-play considerations and why the words “groin injury” alone don't tell us nearly enough to start rewriting the Dodgers’ postseason plans.
This is exactly why Injury Territory exists. Injuries create uncertainty, uncertainty creates speculation, and speculation has a remarkable ability to become “news” before the actual medical information catches up. Sometimes the most useful injury analysis is simply recognizing when the facts aren’t as scary as the reaction.
No panic. No diagnosing from a five-second video clip. No pretending every injury is either “nothing” or season-ending. Just injury intelligence from Will Carroll and Edward Egros when everyone else is losing their minds.
For the latest on Aaron Judge injury news, Aaron Judge leg injury, Yankees injury updates, Blake Snell injury news, Blake Snell groin injury, Dodgers injuries, MLB playoff injuries, Yankees playoff news, Dodgers playoff rotation, baseball sports medicine, injury analysis and return-to-play timelines, subscribe to Injury Territory.

Two Sport Injuries! Myles Garrett, Freddie Freeman and more MLB/NFL Injuries
2026/09/14
To explore coverage, visit aspcapetinsurance.com/FOUL. The ASPCA® is not an insurer and is not engaged in the business of insurance.
Two sports. One human body. Welcome to Bo Jackson Monday.
On this edition of Injury Territory, Will Carroll and Edward Egros cross the football/baseball divide to break down the injuries that matter now—and the ones that could change what happens next.
On the NFL side, Will and Edward dig into Myles Garrett, A.J. Brown, Brock Bowers, and an increasingly complicated injury situation for the Baltimore Ravens wide receivers. What do we actually know, what should we be watching for this week, and where might the injury report be telling us less than people think? As always, the goal isn't simply knowing who's hurt. It's understanding what the injury means for performance, availability and the players around them.
Then Bo Jackson Monday switches sports. Freddie Freeman has another physical issue to manage as the Dodgers look toward October, while Jesús Luzardo presents another pitching-health question worth watching. Will also examines the increasingly dire situation surrounding Joe Musgrove and what the Padres have to consider when the available options start disappearing.
Finally, there's Justin Verlander. If this really is the final start of one of the greatest pitching careers of his generation, what can the Detroit Tigers do to make it special? Will and Edward discuss how Detroit could handle the moment, the workload and the farewell—and why sometimes sports medicine needs to leave a little room for sports history.
That's Bo Jackson Monday: NFL and MLB injury intelligence on the same show, because the uniforms and demands change, but the questions about health, performance, workload and return to play don't.
For more on Myles Garrett injury news, A.J. Brown injury updates, Brock Bowers injury, Ravens WR injuries, Freddie Freeman injury news, Jesús Luzardo, Joe Musgrove injury updates, Justin Verlander’s final start, NFL injuries, MLB injuries, sports medicine, injury analysis and return-to-play timelines, subscribe to Injury Territory.
