You can order a café con leche. But could you tell a doctor what hurts...or ask for help for your child? Welcome to Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish. Catchy songs. Useful phrases. A little Spanish that follows you into the shower whether you invited it or not. I'm Kole, a fellow learner living in Spain. I started putting phrases from my Layers Method lessons to music because understanding Spanish and getting the words out of my mouth were two very different experiences. Then I ended up in an emergency room here. Under stress, even the Spanish I knew was harder to reach. I was grateful my husband and I had gathered and translated our medical records before we needed them. That's why I created the Spanish Emergency Kit. For $47, you get tools to organize your medical information, prepare useful phrases, and create cards you can keep on your phone or in your wallet, for yourself or your family. Start with the worksheet. Gather your records. Come back for the practice when you can. You don't have to wait until you're fluent to get prepared. **Get your Spanish Emergency Kit through the link in the show notes.** Now, let's get some Spanish stuck in your head, so you can have the words ready.

Medical Series, Part 4: How To Say "Slower, Please" in Spanish
2026/10/17
🎧 Want the words ready before you ever need them? The Spanish Emergency Kit is what I put together for exactly that: https://readytospeakspanish.com/  Ep154 Medical Series, Part 4: How To Say "Slower, Please" in Spanish Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish Here's what actually happens: you say your phrase perfectly, and then they answer. Fast. And suddenly you're lost. That's not you failing. That's just the next step. So this song is a slow, dreamy bolero, because the whole point is slowing things down. Más despacio. No entiendo. ¿Puede repetir? Three little lifelines. Verse 1 When they're talking way too fast Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please When the words just fly right by No entiendo — I don't understand Ask them, can you say it again? ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? One more time, please Otra vez, por favor — Again, please Chorus Más despacio, más despacio — Slower, slower Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please No entiendo, no entiendo — I don't understand, I don't understand ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please Verse 2 If they ask, do you understand? ¿Entiende? — Do you understand? Can you write it down? ¿Puede escribirlo? — Can you write it down? If they tell you, wait a moment Espere un momento — Wait a moment Just say yes, thank you Sí, gracias — Yes, thank you Chorus Más despacio, más despacio — Slower, slower Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please No entiendo, no entiendo — I don't understand, I don't understand ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please Bridge ¿Entiende? No entiendo — Do you understand? I don't understand ¿Entiende? Un poco — Do you understand? A little ¿Puede repetir? Otra vez — Can you repeat? Again Más despacio, más despacio, por favor — Slower, slower, please Chorus Más despacio, más despacio — Slower, slower Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please No entiendo, no entiendo — I don't understand, I don't understand ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? ¿Puede repetir? — Can you repeat? Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please Phrases Spanish / English ¿Entiende? / Do you understand? (what you'll hear) Espere un momento / Wait a moment (what you'll hear) Más despacio, por favor / Slower, please No entiendo / I don't understand ¿Puede repetir? / Can you repeat? Otra vez, por favor / Again, please ¿Puede escribirlo? / Can you write it down? Sí, gracias / Yes, thank you Why This Matters "¿Puede…?" means "Can you…?" It's your polite request starter. Put one word after it and you've asked for exactly what you need: ¿Puede repetir? ¿Puede escribirlo? Same opening, every time. Usage Tip "¿Puede escribirlo?" is a secret weapon. Numbers, times, addresses, and medicine names are much easier to read than to catch out loud. Hand them your phone or a pen and let them write it. If you hear "Espere un momento," they're not ignoring you. They're asking you to hold on. Medical Series, Part 3: How To Ask for an English Interpreter in Spanish
2026/10/17
🎧 Want the words ready before you ever need them? The Spanish Emergency Kit is what I put together for exactly that: https://readytospeakspanish.com/ Ep153 Medical Series, Part 3: How To Ask for English in Spanish Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish For a long time I thought asking for English meant I'd failed. Like I was supposed to push through in Spanish no matter what. But in an emergency, the goal isn't to prove anything. It's to be understood. Asking for someone who speaks English is one of the smartest things you can say. So this one gets the full mariachi treatment, trumpets and all, because it deserves to be sung proudly. Verse 1 They might ask you, do you speak Spanish? ¿Habla español? — Do you speak Spanish? Just a little, that's okay Solo un poco — Just a little Or say, I don't speak Spanish No hablo español — I don't speak Spanish I speak English Hablo inglés — I speak English Chorus ¿Hay alguien aquí que hable inglés? — Is there someone here who speaks English? ¿Hay alguien aquí que hable inglés? — Is there someone here who speaks English? Solo hablo un poco — I only speak a little Solo hablo un poco — I only speak a little Hablo inglés, hablo inglés — I speak English, I speak English ¿Hay alguien aquí que hable inglés? — Is there someone here who speaks English? Verse 2 They might ask, do you understand me? ¿Me entiende? — Do you understand me? A little, not much Un poco, no mucho — A little, not much If you need an interpreter Necesito un intérprete — I need an interpreter An interpreter, please Un intérprete, por favor — An interpreter, please Chorus ¿Hay alguien aquí que hable inglés? — Is there someone here who speaks English? ¿Hay alguien aquí que hable inglés? — Is there someone here who speaks English? Medical Series, Part 2: How To Say Where You Are in Spanish

🎧 Want the words ready before you ever need them? The Spanish Emergency Kit is what I put together for exactly that: readytospeakspanish.com  How To Say Where You Are in Spanish (Medical Series, Part 2) Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish Asking for help is step one. Step two is telling someone where you are, and that's the part I realized I'd never practiced. Not the full address out loud, just the little starter that gets you there. Estoy en. And for the rest? Show your phone. That counts too. Verse 1 When they ask you where you are ¿Dónde está? — Where are you? I'm at the hotel Estoy en el hotel — I'm at the hotel I'm at home Estoy en casa — I'm at home I'm out on the street Estoy en la calle — I'm on the street Chorus Estoy en, estoy en — I'm at, I'm at Estoy en el hotel — I'm at the hotel Estoy en casa — I'm at home Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address Estoy aquí, estoy aquí — I'm here, I'm here Verse 2 They might ask, what's the address? ¿Cuál es la dirección? — What's the address? Show your phone, here it is Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address And if you don't know where you are No sé dónde estoy — I don't know where I am Say I'm here, I need help Estoy aquí, necesito ayuda — I'm here, I need help Chorus Estoy en, estoy en — I'm at, I'm at Estoy en el hotel — I'm at the hotel Estoy en casa — I'm at home Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address Estoy aquí, estoy aquí — I'm here, I'm here Bridge ¿Dónde está? Estoy en casa — Where are you? I'm at home ¿Dónde está? Estoy en el hotel — Where are you? I'm at the hotel ¿Cuál es la dirección? Aquí está — What's the address? Here it is ¿Cuál es la dirección? Aquí está, aquí está — What's the address? Here it is, here it is Chorus Estoy en, estoy en — I'm at, I'm at Estoy en el hotel — I'm at the hotel Estoy en casa — I'm at home Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address Aquí está la dirección — Here's the address Estoy aquí, estoy aquí — I'm here, I'm here Phrases Spanish / English ¿Dónde está? / Where are you? (what you'll hear) ¿Cuál es la dirección? / What's the address? (what you'll hear) Estoy en el hotel / I'm at the hotel Estoy en casa / I'm at home Estoy en la calle / I'm on the street Aquí está la dirección / Here's the address No sé dónde estoy / I don't know where I am Estoy aquí / I'm here Why This Matters "Estoy en" is your whole location kit in two words. Add any place after it: el hotel, casa, la calle, la playa. You don't have to pronounce a long street name under pressure. Say "Estoy en," then point to the address on your phone or card. Usage Tip Save your full address somewhere you can open without internet, including floor and door. In Spain, addresses often include them (something like 3º 2ª), and that's the detail people forget. If you're lost, "No sé dónde estoy" is an honest answer and a useful one. Medical Series, Part 1: How To Say "I Need Help" in Spanish
2026/10/17
🎧 Want the words ready before you ever need them? The Spanish Emergency Kit is what I put together for exactly that: https://readytospeakspanish.com  How To Say "I Need Help" in Spanish (Medical Series, Part 1) Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish When I moved to Spain, I could practice ordering a coffee all day long. What I didn't have was the words for when something goes wrong. And that's the moment when your brain is least likely to hand you a sentence. So this series is about the bare minimum: what to say, and what you'll probably hear. Not fluent. Just ready. Verse 1 When something's wrong and you need help Necesito ayuda — I need help When you need a doctor fast Necesito un médico — I need a doctor When you need an ambulance Necesito una ambulancia — I need an ambulance Ask them, can you help me? ¿Me puede ayudar? — Can you help me? Chorus Tengo las palabras, tengo las palabras — I have the words, I have the words Necesito ayuda, ¿me puede ayudar? — I need help, can you help me? No hablo mucho español — I don't speak much Spanish Más despacio, por favor — Slower, please Tengo las palabras listas — I have the words ready Tengo las palabras listas — I have the words ready Verse 2 They might ask you, what's wrong? ¿Qué le pasa? — What's wrong? Keep it simple, I need a doctor Necesito un médico — I need a doctor They might ask you, where are you? ¿Dónde está? — Where are you? Just say, I'm here, I need help Estoy aquí, necesito ayuda — I'm here, I need help Bridge ¿Qué le pasa? Necesito ayuda — What's wrong? I need help ¿Dónde está? Estoy aquí — Where are you? I'm here ¿Qué le pasa? Necesito un médico — What's wrong? I need a doctor ¿Dónde está? Estoy aquí, estoy aquí — Where are you? I'm here, I'm here Phrases Spanish / English Necesito ayuda / I need help Necesito un médico / I need a doctor Necesito una ambulancia / I need an ambulance ¿Me puede ayudar? / Can you help me? No hablo mucho español / I don't speak much Spanish Más despacio, por favor / Slower, please ¿Qué le pasa? / What's wrong? (what you'll hear) ¿Dónde está? / Where are you? (what you'll hear) Estoy aquí / I'm here Why This Matters "Necesito" is one word that does a lot of work. Put anything after it and you've asked for what you need: ayuda, un médico, una ambulancia. You don't need to build a sentence under pressure. You just need the first word and the thing. Usage Tip Listen for two questions: ¿Qué le pasa? and ¿Dónde está? Those are often the first things you'll hear. If you catch even one of them, you already know your answer. In Spain and across the EU, the emergency number is 112. How To Say What You're Doing Right Now in Spanish
2026/09/20
🎧 Before you travel or move to a Spanish-speaking country, get the Spanish Emergency Kit, the course you hope you never have to use: https://readytospeakspanish.com/    How To Say What You're Doing Right Now in Spanish For a long time, someone could ask me what I was doing and my brain would just stop. I knew the words. I couldn't put them together on the spot. Estoy... and then nothing. This song gives you one little starter, estoy, and one ending that never changes, español. You just swap the middle. Then it walks through everyone in order: me, you, her, us, them. Sing it enough and "what are you doing?" stops being scary. Lyrics Intro I am is estoy Right now is ahora Estoy, ahora — I am, right now Estoy, ahora — I am, right now Verse 1 Yo estoy aprendiendo español ahora — I am learning Spanish right now Chorus Estoy hablando español — I am speaking Spanish Estoy aprendiendo español — I am learning Spanish Estoy escuchando español — I am listening to Spanish Estoy entendiendo español — I am understanding Spanish Estoy practicando español — I am practicing Spanish Estoy escribiendo español — I am writing Spanish Verse 2 Tú estás aprendiendo español ahora — You are learning Spanish right now Chorus Estás hablando español — You are speaking Spanish Estás aprendiendo español — You are learning Spanish Estás escuchando español — You are listening to Spanish Estás entendiendo español — You are understanding Spanish Estás practicando español — You are practicing Spanish Estás escribiendo español — You are writing Spanish Verse 3 Ella está aprendiendo español ahora — She is learning Spanish right now Chorus Está hablando español — She is speaking Spanish Está aprendiendo español — She is learning Spanish Está escuchando español — She is listening to Spanish Está entendiendo español — She is understanding Spanish Está practicando español — She is practicing Spanish Está escribiendo español — She is writing Spanish Verse 4 Nosotros estamos aprendiendo español ahora — We are learning Spanish right now Chorus Estamos hablando español — We are speaking Spanish Estamos aprendiendo español — We are learning Spanish Estamos escuchando español — We are listening to Spanish Estamos entendiendo español — We are understanding Spanish Estamos practicando español — We are practicing Spanish Estamos escribiendo español — We are writing Spanish Verse 5 Ellos están aprendiendo español ahora — They are learning Spanish right now Chorus Están hablando español — They are speaking Spanish Están aprendiendo español — They are learning Spanish Están escuchando español — They are listening to Spanish Están entendiendo español — They are understanding Spanish Están practicando español — They are practicing Spanish Están escribiendo español — They are writing Spanish Phrases Spanish | English estoy | I am (right now) estás | you are (right now) está | she is (right now) estamos | we are (right now) están | they are (right now) ahora | right now hablando | speaking aprendiendo | learning escuchando | listening entendiendo | understanding practicando | practicing escribiendo | writing Estoy hablando español | I am speaking Spanish Why This Matters You're not learning thirty sentences. You're learning one frame: who is doing it, what they're doing, and what it's about. Estoy is the "I am, right now" starter. Then you add a word that ends in -ando or -iendo, and you've got what's happening this second. In each round of the chorus the starter changes with the person (estoy, estás, está, estamos, están) and the rest stays put. Don't worry about why some endings are -ando and some are -iendo. Hear it, repeat it, and let your ear sort it out. Usage Tip Say it while you're doing it. Playing this episode? "Estoy escuchando español." Reading a menu? "Estoy practicando español." Nobody needs to hear you, and it counts. 🎧 Before you travel or move to a Spanish-speaking country, get the Spanish Emergency Kit, the course you hope you never have to use: https://readytospeakspanish.com/  Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish — created by Mystikole AI
How To Say Before and After in Spanish
2026/09/20
🎧 Before you travel or move to a Spanish-speaking country, get the Spanish Emergency Kit, the course you hope you never have to use: https://readytospeakspanish.com/    How To Say Before and After in Spanish For a long time I could say what I was doing, but I couldn't say when. Estudio español. Cool. But when? Before work? After dinner? My brain just stopped. Antes and después changed that for me. One little sentence, and you swap in the time. This song keeps the sentence the same and only changes the moment, then walks through everyone in order: me, you, her, us, them. Sing it enough and your day starts coming out in Spanish. Lyrics Intro Before is antes After is después Antes, después — Before, after Antes, después — Before, after Verse 1 Yo estudio español después de la cena y antes de la cena — I study Spanish after dinner and before dinner Chorus Estudio español después de la cena — I study Spanish after dinner Estudio español antes de la cena — I study Spanish before dinner Estudio español después del almuerzo — I study Spanish after lunch Estudio español antes del almuerzo — I study Spanish before lunch Estudio español después de la clase — I study Spanish after class Estudio español antes de la clase — I study Spanish before class Estudio español después del trabajo — I study Spanish after work Estudio español antes del trabajo — I study Spanish before work Verse 2 Tú estudias español después de la cena y antes de la cena — You study Spanish after dinner and before dinner Chorus Estudio español después de la cena — I study Spanish after dinner Estudio español antes de la cena — I study Spanish before dinner Estudio español después del almuerzo — I study Spanish after lunch Estudio español antes del almuerzo — I study Spanish before lunch Estudio español después de la clase — I study Spanish after class Estudio español antes de la clase — I study Spanish before class Estudio español después del trabajo — I study Spanish after work Estudio español antes del trabajo — I study Spanish before work Verse 3 Ella estudia español después de la cena y antes de la cena — She studies Spanish after dinner and before dinner Chorus Estudio español después de la cena — I study Spanish after dinner Estudio español antes de la cena — I study Spanish before dinner Estudio español después del almuerzo — I study Spanish after lunch Estudio español antes del almuerzo — I study Spanish before lunch Estudio español después de la clase — I study Spanish after class Estudio español antes de la clase — I study Spanish before class Estudio español después del trabajo — I study Spanish after work Estudio español antes del trabajo — I study Spanish before work Verse 4 Nosotros estudiamos español después de la cena y antes de la cena — We study Spanish after dinner and before dinner Chorus Estudio español después de la cena — I study Spanish after dinner Estudio español antes de la cena — I study Spanish before dinner Estudio español después del almuerzo — I study Spanish after lunch Estudio español antes del almuerzo — I study Spanish before lunch Estudio español después de la clase — I study Spanish after class Estudio español antes de la clase — I study Spanish before class Estudio español después del trabajo — I study Spanish after work Estudio español antes del trabajo — I study Spanish before work Verse 5 Ellos estudian español después de la cena y antes de la cena — They study Spanish after dinner and before dinner Chorus Estudio español después de la cena — I study Spanish after dinner Estudio español antes de la cena — I study Spanish before dinner Estudio español después del almuerzo — I study Spanish after lunch Estudio español antes del almuerzo — I study Spanish before lunch Estudio español después de la clase — I study Spanish after class Estudio español antes de la clase — I study Spanish before class Estudio español después del trabajo — I study Spanish after work Estudio español antes del trabajo — I study Spanish before work Phrases Spanish | English antes | before después | after Estudio español | I study Spanish Estudio español antes de la cena | I study Spanish before dinner Estudio español después de la cena | I study Spanish after dinner Estudio español antes del trabajo | I study Spanish before work Estudio español después del trabajo | I study Spanish after work Estudio español después del almuerzo | I study Spanish after lunch Estudio español antes de la clase | I study Spanish before class Why This Matters You're not learning eight sentences. You're learning one frame: what I do, then before or after, then when. Estudio español stays the same. Antes or después flips. The time slides in at the end. Once that's in your head, you can put anything into your day. In the chorus you'll hear "de la cena" and then "del trabajo." Don't stress about it. Hear it, repeat it, and let your ear sort it out. The verses walk through the people in order, so you get me, you, her, us, and them without ever opening a grammar book. Usage Tip Say your real day out loud. "Estudio español antes del trabajo." "Estudio español después de la cena." Change the time to match your life. It takes ten seconds and it counts. 🎧 Before you travel or move to a Spanish-speaking country, get the Spanish Emergency Kit, the course you hope you never have to use: https://readytospeakspanish.com/    Stuck in Your Head: Songs to Learn Spanish — created by Mystikole AI
Say It In Spanish: Ordering Coffee and Water at a Bar
2026/09/20
🎧 Before you travel or move to a Spanish-speaking country, get the Spanish Emergency Kit, the course you hope you never have to use: https://readytospeakspanish.com/    Ordering Coffee and Water at a Bar in Spain Stuck in Your Head: Real Talk The song gets the words stuck in your head. This is what it sounds like when you actually use them. When I first got to Spain, I knew the words. I'd practiced them. Then I stood at a loud bar, the waiter looked at me, and I said nothing. So this episode is that exact moment, with no music, just a real conversation at real speed. You hear it, then you play my part out loud, then you hear it once more. How to use this episode Round one: just listen. Round two: the pauses are for you, so say my lines out loud, even if it feels silly. Round three: listen again and notice how much you caught. Setup You're at a bar in Valencia. It's busy. You want a coffee and a water, and then you want to pay. — What do you want? Quiero un café, por favor — I want a coffee, please ¿Algo más? — Anything else? ¿Con gas? / Sin gas — Sparkling / Still No, gracias — No, thank you ¿Cuánto cuesta? — How much does it cost? Son tres euros con cincuenta — It's three euros fifty Pago con tarjeta — I'm paying by card Aquí tienes — Here you go Hasta luego — See you later Why This Matters The waiter's lines are just as important as yours. ¿Qué quieres? and ¿Algo más? come at you fast, and if you've never heard them, they sound like a wall. Hear them enough times and they turn into a signal: your turn. You don't have to understand every word, only the ones that mean it's time to speak. Usage tip Don't wait until you've memorized it. Play this on your walk to the bar, and say your lines out loud when the pauses come. The first time you say them for real, they'll feel like something you've already done. 🎧 Before you travel or move to a Spanish-speaking country, get the Spanish Emergency Kit, the course you hope you never have to use: https://readytospeakspanish.com/    Stuck in Your Head: Real Talk — created by Mystikole AI

(Okay, come on, what time is it?) Hora de comer, ya lo ves. (Time to eat, you see.) Tengo hambre, tengo sed, (I'm hungry, I'm thirsty,) vamos juntos, ¡qué placer! 😋 (let's go together, what a pleasure!) 🎶 Verse 1 – Expressing needs Tengo hambre, tengo sed, (I'm hungry, I'm thirsty,) quiero pan y café con leche. ☕ (I want bread and coffee with milk.) (With sugar? — No, that's it.) — Vale, venga, aquí está. ☕ (Okay, come on, here it is.) 🎶 Pre-Chorus – Common café talk Pago en efectivo o con tarjeta, (I'll pay in cash or by card,) no pasa nada, ¡qué buena farta! 🍽️ (It's all good, what a great meal!) Gracias, por favor, todo va, (Thank you, please, all's good,) poco a poco, día a día. (Little by little, day by day.) 🎶 Chorus – Build energy with rhythm — Tengo hambre — (¡yo también!) (I'm hungry — me too!) — Tengo sed — (¡otra vez!) (I'm thirsty — again!) — Quiero pan — (¡vale, va!) (I want bread — okay, let's go!) — Quiero más — (¡olé, olá!) 💃 (I want more — olé, olá!) 🎶 Bridge – Fun emotional layer (Spain-style tone) Me gusta el sol, me gusta el pan, (I like the sun, I like bread,) me gusta reír en el café del mar. ☀️ (I like laughing in the café by the sea.) Si llueve hoy, da igual, (If it rains today, it doesn't matter,) hay comida y buen humor total. 😄 (there's food and total good vibes.) 🎶 Final Chorus – Big fun finish — Tengo hambre — (¡yo también!) (I'm hungry — me too!) — Tengo sed — (¡otra vez!) (I'm thirsty — again!) — Quiero pan — (¡vale, va!) I Froze Every Time Someone Spoke Spanish to Me (Start Here)
2026/03/17
This isn't a Spanish lesson. It's a playlist.  I moved to Spain with beginner Spanish and quickly learned that studying didn't mean speaking. Flashcards, daily streaks, hitting my goals on the apps, and still, when a real person spoke to me, I froze. What finally worked was focusing on the small set of words real conversations are made of, and turning them into songs. Simple. Repetitive. Real. Because your brain doesn't remember grammar rules under pressure. It remembers what it's repeated. Every episode is a short beginner Spanish song built from real-life phrases: cafés, restaurants, directions, everyday life, and the moments that matter most, like calling for help, talking to a doctor, or picking up a prescription. Don't listen in order. Pick the situations you need, build a playlist, and let it play in the background until the words come out on their own.
