A few weeks ago my greyhound Gertie unexpectedly passed away. It was devastating for our family. This episode tells the story of how we came to adopt Gertie, what made her so special, and how she left us so suddenly. It's definitely not a funny episode, but hopefully it helps you appreciate your pets even more. If you have talked to me at all in the last year, I've told you about this. Today on Sun Room Story Time I give you the behind-the-scenes story of how that came about and what Nate was really like backstage at Zanies Nashville. Two of the coolest stories I ever got to write as a journalist were profiles of the outlaw country singer, and fellow Tyler, TX native, Paul Cauthen. The first one was for Cowboys & Indians Magazine and the second was for Texas Monthly. Paul was in Chattanooga this past weekend and I went to his concert, which was amazing as always. That prompted me to go down memory lane to talk about my journalism career, these stories with Paul, and the importance of not putting too much value in one accomplishment. In celebration of football season, I'm talking about the time that my friends and I decided to become the biggest "fans" of a local, terrible, high school football team. It was a very stupid, but funny, way to spend our post-college free time. Today we talk about perhaps the most important job of my life: the one where I met my wife. My college job as a houseboy (aka dishwasher) at the Pi Phi sorority house at the University of Oklahoma was full of fun, hijinks, and unlimited free meals. It also came with the perk of hanging out with a bunch of sorority girls. Come see me at these upcoming shows: August 14-15: The Comedy Catch - Chattanooga September 5: Inspired Dining - Pretty Prairie, KS (headlining) September 8: Dusty Slays' Grand Ole Comedy Show - Zanies Nashville September 19: The Legion Theater - Cartersville, GA September 25-27: Helium Comedy Club - Atlanta, GA Theme Song - "Back to Chattanooga" by Brother and the Hayes

I just got back from a weekend featuring at Louisville Comedy Club which was incredibly fun. The crowds were amazing and the state provided me with plenty of material for jokes. I also talk about my family's trip to Sugar Mountain, NC and then finish by discussing the tragic passing of my favorite musician Glen Hansard. Come see me at these upcoming shows: 8/14-15: The Comedy Catch in Chattanooga (featuring for Claude Stuart) 9/5: Inspired Dining in Purple Praire, KS (headlining) 9/8: Dusty Slay's Grand Ole Comedy Show at Zanies Nashville 9/19: The Legion Theater in Cartersville, GA (featuring for Big Rich Brock) Theme Song: "Back to Chattanooga" by Brother and the Hayes

Last week I headlined Mic Drop Plano, back in Dallas-Fort Worth where I started comedy and lived for 12 years. It was such a fun experience so in this episode I talk about all that went into making the night so fun. And I also talk about my appearance on 105.3 The Fan and a cool experience my son and I had at the Braves vs. Rangers game. Theme Song - "Back to Chattanooga" by Brother & The Hayes

My friends and I started an indoor soccer team when were were in our early 20s. It became so much more than just a soccer team. The Billy Ray Jeters was basically the most detailed, confusing, and intricate inside joke ever. Eventually I made a documentary about the BRJs that we debuted at The Texas Theatre in Dallas. Watch the episode to hear Part 1 of the epic saga of the Billy Ray Jeters. Last week I posted a video to my social media channels about the World Cup and the name of the country of Turkey/Türkiye thinking it would get a few chuckles. Instead it's exploded in popularity and officially become my first truly viral video. It's also inspired a lot of annoying comments, which I decided to respond to in this video. It involved a lot of travel, a very strange hotel room, and some very interesting people in the Treasure State. I also watched Citizen Kane for the first time last night and share my thoughts about the "Greatest Film Ever Made."Come see me at my headlining shows:Carrollton, GA - June 26 - https://bit.ly/43GLN1rMt. This is part one in a recurring series that I'll be doing about all of the jobs I've had in my career. Some are interesting, like today's, and others are absolutely wheels off. For this story we dive into my first job as a sports clerk for the Tyler Morning Telegraph newspaper. I got to experience life as a real newspaper sports reporter, and, eventually, I covered Patrick Mahomes in the Little League State Championship. I also discuss my other high school job as a grocery store sacker. What jobs did you have in high school? Comment below and I'll read it out on the next jobs episode! This past weekend I checked an item off my bucket list...way before I ever expected to be able to do so. I performed at the world-famous Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. I opened for Chris D'Elia in front of a packed house at The Mother Church of Country Music. It was an incredible experience and one I'll remember and cherish forever. Check out the episode to hear what it was like and to find out which mega celebrity I randomly met in the parking lot after the show.
