Ep 28: Should You STOP Calling Your Business Black-Owned? | The John Hope Bryant Debate
2026/10/06
Should Black entrepreneurs stop calling their businesses “Black-owned”? John Hope Bryant has sparked debate by arguing that leading with the Black-owned label can potentially limit a company's market—and that entrepreneurs should build businesses designed to serve everybody. The 3 Amigos—Coach Swan Simpson, Cretelia Harris and Robin White—debate the other side: Can identifying as Black-owned actually be a competitive advantage, create brand loyalty and strengthen Black economic empowerment? Can you proudly identify as a Black-owned business while still building a company for everyone? Let's talk it out and find a solution. Ep 27: Are Millionaires STILL Being Made In Trump's Economy
2026/09/29
The headlines may be filled with economic uncertainty, but Fidelity just reported something worth talking about: a record 769,000 401(k) accounts reached millionaire status in Q2 2026. Is a millie hard to make in the current economy? The Three Amigos — Coach Swan Simpson, Cretelia Harris and Robin White — are following the money. In Episode 27 of The Build Black Show, we dig into the numbers behind America’s growing population of 401(k) millionaires and ask a bigger question: Is the opportunity to build real wealth still alive for ordinary Americans? We examine how long it typically takes to build a seven-figure retirement account, the power of consistent investing and employer contributions, and why the economic story can look very different depending on whose bank account you’re looking at. No political talking points. No doom-and-gloom headlines. We’re looking at the numbers and having the conversation. Because while everybody is arguing about the economy, some Americans are quietly becoming millionaires. The question is: What are they doing differently? The Three Amigos are back. Let’s talk MONEY. Ep 26: AI IS COMING FOR YOUR JOB — HIDE THE WOMEN & CHILDREN!!
2026/09/22
IS REALLY COMING FOR YOUR JOB? —or could it actually help you create your own economy? On Episode 26 of The Build Black Show, Coach Swan Simpson, Cretelia Harris and Robin White—the “3 Amigos”—sit down for a no-holds-barred conversation about artificial intelligence, the future of work, entrepreneurship and what happens when technology begins doing work humans once thought only humans could do. The headlines say AI will eliminate jobs. Companies are automating. Entire industries are changing. But we're asking a different question: What happens if instead of running from AI, everyday people learn how to MASTER it? We discuss how entrepreneurs, professionals and aspiring business owners can use AI to increase productivity, develop new skills, launch businesses, create content, sell services and build new income opportunities. The future may not belong simply to people who know how to work. It may belong to people who know how to work with AI. This isn't a conversation about humans versus machines. It's about adapting, learning and using powerful technology to create opportunities that didn't exist before. Welcome to the new economy. Ep 24: They Can Take Your Business: Legal Red Flags Every Entrepreneur Should Know
2026/09/08
Could someone legally take control of the business you've spent years building? Attorney Scherrie L. Prince joins The Build Black Show for an eye-opening conversation about the overlooked legal red flags that can leave entrepreneurs vulnerable. Many business owners focus on customers, sales, marketing and growth — while assuming that forming an LLC or filing a few documents means their company is protected. In this episode, Scherrie breaks down business structure and operational mistakes entrepreneurs often don't discover until there's a dispute, ownership challenge, financial problem, or threat to the company itself. We explore business structures, LLCs, ownership, partnerships, operating agreements, contracts, intellectual property, asset protection and the legal foundations every entrepreneur should understand when building a company. If you're a small business owner, entrepreneur, startup founder or anyone building a business you intend to grow and keep, Episode 24 is a conversation you don't want to miss. Ep 20: How Jennine Labuzan's Geneaology Research Helped A Federal Judge Say YES To Her Suing The U.S. Government!
2026/08/11
Your family tree may tell you more than where you came from. It could tell you what your family once owned. Historical researcher Jennine Labuzan joins The Build Black Show for a deep dive into genealogy, ancestral land, federal land patents and the records Black families may have never been taught to search. Jennine says her own genealogy research led her to an extraordinary discovery involving her third-great-grandfather, Charles A. Labuzan, and property tied to an 1840 federal land patent. Her search eventually grew into a legal battle involving land in Mississippi and a federal Quiet Title Act lawsuit against the United States. Court records show that in July 2026, a federal judge denied the government’s motion to dismiss that case, allowing the litigation to move forward. Recently featured on #RolandMartinUnfiltered, Jennine joins The Build Black Show to explain what she found, how she found it, and why she believes Black Americans should begin digging deeper into their own genealogy and property records. We get into: Federal land patents and why they matterGenealogy beyond building a family treeResearching deeds, property and public recordsBlack land ownership and historical land lossAncestral and inheritance claimsHow forgotten records can affect generational wealthWhy knowing the names of your ancestors mattersThis is one of those episodes that may completely change what you think genealogy is for. Don’t just ask where your family came from. Start asking what they owned. This conversation discusses an ongoing legal dispute and the guest’s research and interpretations. It is not legal advice. In this episode of The Build Black Show, Jose “Dre” Martin of Edward Jones joins Coach Swan Simpson for a powerful and approachable conversation about investing, financial confidence, and planning for the future. They discuss why people often avoid investing, how to move beyond the fear of not knowing enough, and why building wealth requires more than simply earning a good income. For entrepreneurs, professionals, families, and first-time investors, this conversation offers a valuable reminder: your money needs a purpose, a strategy, and enough time to grow. You will hear an honest discussion about creating financial goals, preparing for retirement, developing better money habits, and taking the first steps toward building a stronger financial future.
