Description

Unqualified CEO is a raw, unfiltered podcast about building success when you feel anything but ready. 19 years old I started with my young family in government housing, became a millionaire by 29, lost it all, and started over again at 33. This is a story about resilience, reinvention, and an unshakable work ethic. I’ve walked into every chapter of my life feeling underqualified—but I showed up anyway and put in the work. This podcast is where I share the real lessons—on leadership, sales, and business—that I’ve learned through both success and failure. No fluff, no gatekeeping—just honest insights from someone rebuilding in real time, with a clear goal of building a $50 million company. From the lowest moments to new levels, I’m putting it all on the table. Because too many people at the top keep what they know to themselves. I won’t.

Overcoming Overwhelm
2026/10/22
When everything feels urgent, overwhelm can make it hard to see what actually needs your attention. Matt shares how to name the emotion, find the pressure point, clear mental clutter, and take one specific next step. He also explores what stress can do to focus and decision-making and how leaders can help employees and salespeople regain clarity without assuming everyone has the same capacity. Because sometimes the fastest way forward is to stop carrying the whole pile in your head and identify the next foothold.
A Leader of Paradox
2026/10/13
CEO studies by Matt are learning that great leadership is not found at the extremes—it is found in the ability to hold two competing truths at once. In this episode, we explore the psychology behind the leadership paradox: remaining gentle while enforcing standards, patient while creating urgency, open-minded while making decisive calls, and empowering while still providing direction. You’ll learn why pressure pushes immature leaders toward extremes, how psychological safety must coexist with accountability, and why your greatest strength can become your greatest weakness when it loses its balancing force. Average leaders choose the side that makes them comfortable. Mature leaders stand in the tension and give the moment what it requires.
Show Don't Tell Leadership
2026/10/02
Leadership loses credibility when words and behavior don’t match. In this episode, we break down six principles of “Show, Don’t Tell” leadership: behavioral credibility, demonstration over argument, the behaviors leadership rewards, shared sacrifice, consistency, and turning results into evidence. The goal isn’t to impress people with what you can do—it’s to model the standard, develop others, and help them become leaders who can teach it forward.
Faith Fueled Friday - Training People Who Leave is Not a Waste
2026/09/25
Leadership gets painful when you pour into people who eventually leave. But Deuteronomy 24:19–22 reminds us that not everything produced by our hands is supposed to return to our hands. In this episode, we explore why leaders must create a harvest worth sharing, leave opportunity within reach without removing personal responsibility, and continue developing people even when someone else may benefit. Their departure doesn’t make your investment a waste—and their lack of gratitude doesn’t cancel your calling. Don’t waste the next seed because somebody else enjoyed the last harvest.
Suicide Seasons - When Pain makes you believe your story is over.
2026/09/25
Two years ago, I was fired and lost a seven-figure income overnight. As the cars, real estate, security, and identity I had built began disappearing, I entered a darkness that nearly cost me my life. In this deeply personal episode, I explain the five psychological processes that helped me understand that season: Shattered Assumptions Theory, the resource-loss spiral, identity disruption, the scarcity tunnel, and post-traumatic growth. This isn’t only a story about losing everything—it’s about discovering that pain can distort your vision without determining your future. If you are struggling, keep moving your feet. A painful chapter is not a finished story, a lost position cannot erase your purpose, and what feels like burial may actually be planting. The night may be brutal, but morning still has an appointment. This episode discusses suicide and suicidal thoughts and how to break through
Leadership Dichotomy of Confidence and Humility
2026/09/16
Great leadership requires two seemingly opposite qualities: extreme confidence and extreme humility. In this episode, we explore how leaders must know when to press the gas, when to hit the brakes, when to step in and when to step back. Confidence gives you the courage to hold standards, make hard decisions and say no. Humility gives you the wisdom to listen, admit when you’re wrong and allow others to lead. Leadership isn’t choosing between the two—it’s having the discernment to know which one the moment requires.
What the Brain Learns When You Stop Challenging People
2026/09/09
In this episode of Unqualified CEO, I unpack a leadership mistake I’ve made believing that removing pressure from people was always helping them. Through the Pygmalion Effect, we explore how lowered expectations and repeated rescuing can teach the brain to avoid discomfort...leaving confidence and capacity undeveloped. This episode is a reminder to hold the person, hold the standard, and coach people through the challenges that can transform them.
Faith Fueled Fridays - Your Circle has a System
2026/09/04
Your Circle Has a SystemYour circle doesn’t just influence your attitude...it teaches you what normal looks like. The way the people around you think, work, pray, spend, prepare, dream, and respond to adversity slowly becomes the system you operate inside. In this episode, we break down why success leaves clues—and so does mediocrity. Sometimes you aren’t stuck because you lack talent or potential; you’re stuck because you’ve normalized the habits and standards of the people around you. Using the story in Mark 2 of the friends who carried the paralyzed man to Jesus, we explore the power of surrounding yourself with people who won’t simply celebrate you, but will carry you, challenge you, stretch your faith, and refuse to let you stay where you are. If you want an abnormal life, you may have to change what “normal” looks like around you. Your net worth is connected to your network. Your circle is your system. And eventually, your system becomes your life.
Faith Fueled Fridays - The Cost of Leadership
2026/08/21
There’s a massive difference between managing people and mentoring people. Managers focus on performance, production, and results. Mentors understand that behind every number is a person—and developing that person will cost you something. In this episode, we unpack Jesus’ command to “love your neighbor as yourself” and the story of the Good Samaritan to expose a dangerous reality in leadership: disappointment can slowly turn compassion into callousness. After enough people quit, fail, ignore your advice, or even turn against you, it becomes easy to stop seeing people’s problems as opportunities to serve them and start seeing them as interruptions. But real mentorship was never supposed to be convenient. The Good Samaritan used his oil, his bandages, his transportation, his money, and his time to help someone who could offer him nothing in return. That’s the challenge: Are you asking, “How much do I have to give?” or “What does this person need from me?” Because not every investment in people will produce an earthly return. Some ROI is measured in revenue. Some ROI is measured in eternity. Don’t let the people who disappointed you yesterday determine how deeply you’re willing to love and lead the people God puts in front of you tomorrow. Managers ask, “What’s required of me?” Mentors ask, “What’s needed from me?”
All in or All out
2026/08/11
The most exhausting place in entrepreneurship isn’t failure—it’s halfway. You can give your business 25% of your effort and still experience 100% of the stress, uncertainty, rejection, and mental pressure that comes with building something. In this episode, we break down why commitment changes everything. From the famous story of Cortés eliminating his path of retreat to the psychology of consistency, momentum, self-trust, and directed obsession, this episode challenges entrepreneurs to take an honest look at whether their actions actually match their ambitions. Being “all in” doesn’t mean irresponsibly quitting your job, neglecting your family, or working yourself into the ground. It means eliminating the mental escape hatch. It means showing up when motivation disappears, doing the repetitions long enough for momentum to compound, and refusing to expect extraordinary outcomes from ordinary commitment. You can’t have Lamborghini taste with a Honda Civic work ethic. If you’re going to endure the pressure of entrepreneurship anyway, stop paying the full emotional price while collecting a fraction of the potential return. All in or all out—because halfway might be the most expensive place you can live.
Perspective Play
2026/08/05
Your life is not determined only by what happens to you—it's determined by the meaning you assign to what happens to you. In this episode, we explore the incredible power of perspective and how one simple shift in the way you view your circumstances can completely change the way you feel, think, and act. You'll learn why two people can experience the exact same situation yet walk away with entirely different outcomes, how your brain naturally assigns meaning to every event, and why changing your perspective isn't denying reality—it's choosing the interpretation that gives you the strength to keep moving. Through practical examples of business, money, failure, pain, and adversity, you'll discover that every circumstance has more than one angle. A small business can be seen as limited—or deeply personal. Being broke can feel hopeless—or become the fuel that drives relentless ambition. Failure can become proof you're not good enough—or proof you're learning faster than everyone else. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, anxious, or simply in a season where life isn't going as planned, this episode will challenge you to stop asking, "Why is this happening to me?" and start asking, "What else could this mean?" Because sometimes the breakthrough you're searching for isn't found in changing your circumstances—it's found in changing your perspective. "When you change the meaning, you change the emotion. When you change the emotion, you change your actions. And when you change your actions, you change your future."
Faith Fueled Fridays - The Sin of Standing Still
2026/07/31
Podcast Summary What if the greatest danger in your life isn't failure—but standing still? In this episode, we take a verse-by-verse journey through Matthew 25:14–30, unpacking one of Jesus' most misunderstood parables: the Parable of the Talents. Far beyond a lesson about money, this passage reveals God's expectations for stewardship, responsibility, courage, and faithfulness. Discover why God never compares your calling to someone else's, what it truly means when the Master "reckons" with His servants, why both the servant with five talents and the servant with two talents received the exact same reward, and how fear—not lack of ability—became the downfall of the servant who buried his talent. We'll also explore the biblical principle behind "to everyone who has, more will be given," the difference between preserving and multiplying what God has entrusted to you, and why Heaven rewards faithfulness over comparison. Whether you're leading a business, building a family, pursuing a calling, or simply trying to honor God with what He's placed in your hands, this episode will challenge you to stop living in fear, stop comparing your assignment, and start stewarding your life with purpose. Because one day the question won't be, "How much were you given?" It will be, "What did you do with what I entrusted to you?"
The Danger of Familiarity
2026/07/28
What if the greatest threat to your future isn't failure, but familiarity? In this episode, we explore the hidden psychological trap of hedonic adaptation and how our brains naturally normalize the very things we once dreamed of having. From marriages and careers to finances, health, and personal growth, familiarity can quietly steal our gratitude, our ambition, and our ability to see the extraordinary in our everyday lives. You'll discover why success often loses its fuel, how comfort creates invisible ceilings, and why so many people stop growing—not because they've reached their potential, but because they've become comfortable with their current reality. Backed by psychology, behavioral science, and practical strategies, this episode will challenge you to reclaim your sense of wonder, break free from complacency, and see your life through fresh eyes before familiarity steals what you've worked so hard to build. Because the greatest danger isn't losing your blessings—it's forgetting they're blessings at all.
The Invisible Ceiling - Imposter Syndrome
2026/07/21
The Invisible Ceiling explores one of the most common psychological barriers to success: imposter syndrome. Why do entrepreneurs, athletes, leaders, and high performers often feel like they don't belong even after achieving incredible results? In this episode, we unpack the science behind imposter syndrome, revealing that it's not simply a confidence problem it's often a prediction problem. You'll learn how your brain creates emotional responses based on anticipated outcomes, how those predictions influence your behavior, and why your identity often lags behind your ability. More importantly, you'll walk away with practical, research-backed strategies to retrain your brain, challenge false predictions, and update the "software" that's been limiting your potential. If you've ever felt like you're one step away from being "found out," this episode will help you recognize the invisible ceiling that's holding you back and give you the tools to break through it.
Skill vs Will Leadership
2026/07/07
Most leaders know how to coach skill. Few know how to restore will. In this episode, we dive into one of the biggest breakthroughs in leadership: understanding the difference between teaching someone how to perform and helping them rediscover why they perform. We explore why activity is often a symptom—not the problem—and why the greatest leadership conversations don't happen when people are winning, but when they're quietly falling apart. You'll learn when to coach metrics, when to mentor mindset, how culture is modeled rather than announced, and why listening may be the most overlooked leadership skill of all. If you're a leader, business owner, coach, or entrepreneur who wants to build people—not just performance—this episode will challenge the way you lead forever. Key Takeaways: The difference between Skill and Will. Why metrics expose problems but rarely solve them. How to recognize when someone needs a mentor instead of a coach. Why culture always mirrors leadership. How listening builds trust, influence, and long-term performance. The best leaders don't just improve results—they restore belief. And when you learn to coach skill while mentoring will, you stop building employees and start developing leaders.
