The Exorcist (1973)
2026/10/19
We’re continuing spooky season with a review of ‘The Exorcist’ in an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs!
12-year-old Regan is possessed by a demon in this iconic 1973 horror film. Desperate to save her, Regan’s mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests. The showdown between good and evil is one of most thrilling, and referenced, finales you’ll see.
‘The Exorcist’ was the highest grossing film of 1973 and became the first horror movie nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, and Jason Miller were all nominated for their performances. It’s available to stream on HBO Max and rent or borrow anywhere else.
Peyton and Andrew discuss the film’s theme of faith vs. science, behind-the-scenes anecdotes, and the struggle of a mother to help her daughter that makes the film so gripping, even today.
This episode also includes a mini-review of ‘V/H/S/Mixtape’, a reaction to the disappointing first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’, and a discussion about Steven Soderbergh stepping in to help Matt Reeves finish ‘The Batman: Part II’.
We compel you to listen to the newest episode wherever you get your podcasts.

Digger
2026/10/12
Andrew and Peyton review ‘Digger’, the new Tom Cruise vehicle from Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a fat, balding oil billionaire so powerful that the president bows to him. After an environmental catastrophe he repeatedly ignored sends a wall of ice floating toward Europe, Digger must manage the political fallout. Digger got us into this mess. Can he dig us out?
From the Oscar-winning team behind ‘Birdman’ and ‘The Revenant’, ‘Digger’ is a comedy-drama featuring a version of Tom Cruise you’ve never seen before.
Peyton and Andrew dig into the movie’s themes and the real life merger(s) that could have been ripped from its screenplay. They discuss the performances from Tom Cruise, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, and more, and they take a look at upcoming releases ‘Musk’ and ‘The Altruists’.

Possession (1981)
2026/10/05
It’s officially spooky season, and Cinephomaniacs is starting it with a bang! Peyton and Andrew review Andrzej Żuławski’s 1981 cult classic ‘Possession’.
Sam Neill (RIP) and Isabelle Adjani play Mark and Anna, a couple living in West Berlin whose marriage is rapidly falling apart. When Anna asks for a divorce and begins exhibiting increasingly strange behavior, Mark suspects she’s seeing another man, but the reality is something beyond his wildest nightmares.
‘Possession’ premiered at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival, where Adjani won the award for Best Actress. Żuławski wrote the film during his own painful divorce. The result is a bizarre mix of drama, horror, action, and sci-fi.
The film was banned and censored for years, but you can now watch it from the comfort of your living room. ‘Possession’ is available on Shudder and for free with a public library card on Hoopla and Kanopy.
This episode also features discussion of ‘Masters of the Universe’ (2026) and Curry Barker’s ‘Obsession’ followup, ‘Anything but Ghosts’ (2027).

Primetime
2026/09/28
Have a seat and listen to an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs. We’re talking A24’s new psychological thriller ‘Primetime’!
Inspired by true events, ‘Primetime’ follows ‘To Catch a Predator’ host Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) over one tumultuous season in 2006. As the show reaches peak popularity, Hansen struggles to meet demand for more exciting perpetrators, all the while dealing with a personal crisis of his own creation. When the walls start to close in on Hansen, audiences will wonder whether he’s motivated by a righteous crusade against evil, a lust for fame, or a bit of both.
Documentarian Lance Oppenheim (‘Some Kind of Heaven’, ‘Spermworld’) directs his first narrative feature, with a distinctive visual style that feels ripped right out of a 2000s TV.
With a cast that also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers, ‘Primetime’ is tense, scary, and surprisingly funny, and Andrew and Peyton get into all of it, plus mini-reviews of ‘Boogie Nights’ and the new South Korean action sci-fi ‘Hope’.

Resident Evil (2026) feat. Kyle Flynn
2026/09/21
Andrew and Peyton are joined by their friend and fellow film critic Kyle Flynn to review ‘Resident Evil’ in an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs.
In the latest movie from Zach Cregger (‘Barbarian’, ‘Weapons’), Austin Abrams plays a hapless organ transport driver unknowingly caught in the first night of a zombie apocalypse.
None of our hosts had ever seen a ‘Resident Evil’ movie before, and they brought a mix of reactions to the newest one. Is it a fun horror comedy that recreates the feeling of playing the game or a dull affair that just feels like holding a dead controller?
The discussion also includes reactions to the Palme d’Or winner ‘Fjord’, the upcoming Chris Evans Hollywood satire ‘Sacrifice’, and the right wing Jonathan Majors action film ‘Run Hide Fight: Infidels’.

Onslaught
2026/09/14
Peyton and Andrew review ‘Onslaught’, an action thriller in theaters now. ‘Onslaught’ has been one of their most anticipated movies of the year, and they were ecstatic when A24 invited them to a press screening earlier this month.
Adria Arjona (‘Don’t Blink’) stars as a veteran managing a trailer park whose daughter is staying with her for the weekend. When a trio of super soldiers escape a nearby military base and begin killing everything in their path, they soon find they messed with the wrong mom.
Dan Stevens (‘Cuckoo’) also stars as the Nazi scientist behind the experiment, and Drew Starkey (‘Outer Banks’) as the government agent trying to cover it up. Adam Wingard (‘The Guest’) directs, returning to horror after directing ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’.
They get into all things ‘Onslaught’, from funny acting choices to some stomach-turning gore. Along the way, we touch on the big Telluride news of Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary, ‘You Can See Everything’, and Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI biopic, ‘Artificial’.

The Iron Giant (1999)
2026/09/07
Mmm boy! We mark Andrew’s 30th birthday with a discussion about one of his lifelong favorites, ‘The Iron Giant’!
Set in 1950’s Maine, the animated classic follows a precocious and lonely young boy named Hogarth, who desperately wants to make a friend. He soon gets what he wished for in the form of the Giant, a 100-foot-tall metal man.
Training a Giant doesn’t prove easy, especially in a Cold War America that sees him only as a threat. The Giant faces a choice: will he be the hero, or the villain the world already sees him as? The movie leaves us with the inspiring message, “You are who you choose to be.”
‘The Iron Giant’ originated as ‘The Iron Man’, a series of bedtime stories told by Ted Hughes to his children. Brad Bird (‘The Incredibles’, ‘Ratatouille’) directed the film adaptation, which was released in 1999. Though it was originally a box office failure, ‘The Iron Giant’ has steadily increased in cult classic status, and it’s now consistently ranked as one of the greatest animated movies of all time.
Listen to hear our thoughts on the movie, including commentary about its origins and the meaning it holds for Andrew. Plus, we review the new releases ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ and ‘Onslaught’.

Teenage WHAT at Camp Miasma?
2026/08/31
Rise and shine, campers, for an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs! Andrew and Peyton review ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’, a new film from Jane Schoenbrun that hit them like a spear through the chest.
Hannah Einbinder (‘Hacks’) stars as Kris, a queer horror director tasked with rebooting a classic slasher franchise. Kris meets Billy (Gillian Anderson, ‘The X-Files’), the star of the original Camp Miasma film, leading her on a fantastical journey of sexual discovery that blurs the line between reality and the film franchise she fell in love with.
We discuss the film’s genre-bending narrative, the hand-crafted feel of the production design, and the personal story that ‘We’re All Going to the World’s Fair’, ‘I Saw the TV Glow’, and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ tell about Jane Schoenbrun's gender identity and sexuality.
In movie news, Marvel has chosen their new ‘X-Men’, and Criterion will release Paul Thomas Anderson’s Cameron Winter concert film in theaters this November. Out now, a group of kids find themselves trapped in a children’s show with an orange unicorn in ‘Buddy’ from Casper Kelly (‘Too Many Cooks’). Also, Macon Blair (‘The Toxic Avenger’) directs ‘Idiots’, a black comedy road movie starring Dave Franco, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Mason Thames.

Ghost World (2001) feat. an Interview with Tim Anderson
2026/08/24
We sat down for an in-depth interview with veteran film curator Tim Anderson! Tim shared insight into what goes into programming a film festival, behind-the-scenes conversations surrounding anniversary screenings, and the X-rated, 160-minute movie from 1975 he’ll always dream of showing.
Tim is the Programming Manager for the Academy Award–qualifying Florida Film Festival and Maitland arthouse staple, Enzian Theater. We talked about his odyssey from growing up in Central Florida to working on 'The Tonight Show with Jay Leno', producing independent films, and working as a film journalist (including running the podcasts for Bloody Disgusting), before returning to Florida to become a full-time programmer.
Enzian Theater is a nonprofit cinema and café that spotlights independent, international, and queer cinema, cult classics, and so much more. It hosts several regular community events in the Orlando area, including the annual Florida Film Festival, which just opened submissions for its 2027 festival. It is also where Andrew and Peyton first met, at a late-night, full-moon screening of 'Ginger Snaps' (2000). 🐺 𓃦 🌕
After 30 days of exclusively showing Christopher Nolan’s 'The Odyssey' (2026), Enzian has returned to its regularly scheduled programming, beginning with a 4K restoration of Alex Cox’s 'Repo Man' (1984) on August 15. Next, Enzian will present 'Ghost World' (2001) as a 35mm Cult Classic tomorrow night, August 25. We asked Tim why he chose the offbeat comedy, based on Daniel Clowes’ underground graphic novel, as his 2026 birthday movie. Directed by Terry Zwigoff ('Crumb', 'Bad Santa'), 'Ghost World' stars Thora Birch ('American Beauty'), Steve Buscemi, and a young Scarlett Johansson. Tickets are still available at https://enzian.org/film/ghost-world.

Kathryn Newton (‘Ant-Man’), Lana Condor (‘To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before’), and Gavin Casalegno (‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’) find themselves trapped with a bull shark in the depths of an underwater cave system in Thailand.
What will take them out first: the violently territorial shark or the petty dysfunction in their own friend group?

Spider-Man: Brand New Day
2026/08/03
It’s a brand new day and a brand new episode of Cinephomaniacs! Andrew and Peyton review 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day'.
Four years after the world forgot about him, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) lives a lonely life as New York’s full-time friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. But when MJ (Zendaya) moves back to the city and a mysterious telepath threatens to undo all of Peter’s hard work, his powers begin to evolve in unexpected ways.
Jon Bernthal’s Punisher finally gets his moment on the big screen. Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, and Tramell Tillman also star, with Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk rounding out the cast.
We also discuss the announcements that Ryan Gosling is the new Ghost Rider and David Jonsson is the new Black Panther, plus early screenings of the high-concept rom-com 'One Night Only' and the Anthony Bourdain biopic 'Tony'.
Who is Sadie Sink playing in 'Brand New Day'? Is there a post-credits scene, and if so, how many? Did 'Brand New Day' have us shooting webs, or did it just leave our Peters tingling?

Her Private Hell feat. Zach Smith
2026/07/27
Zach Smith (@ZachOnArthouse on Substack and TikTok) joins Andrew and Peyton to discuss the films of Nicolas Winding Refn. They dig into everything from 'Drive' and 'Only God Forgives' to 'The Neon Demon' and 'Too Old to Die Young' before tackling NWR's newest film, now playing in theaters: 'Her Private Hell'.
Sophie Thatcher ('Yellowjackets') and Havana Rose Liu ('Bottoms') star as actresses who cross paths with a diamond-covered killer known as the Leather Man in 'Her Private Hell'. Meanwhile, Charles Melton ('Riverdale') plays an American GI cutting his way through the Yakuza to save his daughter from the same fate.
It's everything you've come to expect from Refn: long pauses, neon lights, and a kickass soundtrack. Zach shares his enthusiasm as a dedicated Refn fan and discusses his recent interview with 'Her Private Hell' editor Matthew Newman.
The wide-ranging discussion also includes trailer reactions to ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Ebenezer’, TIFF 2026 programming, and early screenings of ‘Motor City’.

Evil Dead Burn
2026/07/13
The ‘Evil Dead’ series is back with one of its meanest and goriest installments yet. Join Andrew and Peyton for a trip back to the cabin in the woods as they crack open the Necronomicon and discuss all things ‘Evil Dead Burn’ in a new episode of Cinephomaniacs.
Young widow Alice (Souheila Yacoub, ‘Dune: Part Two’) cremates what’s left of her abusive husband at the start of this sixth ‘Evil Dead’ movie. Back at the family home, tensions flare beyond typical family dysfunction as Alice’s in-laws turn into Deadites one by one, including Hunter Doohan (‘Wednesday’) and Tandi Wright (mother of ‘Pearl’).
This French-fried ‘Evil Dead’ is one of the franchise’s darkest, but does that make it groovy? Or should all copies be burned by dawn? Listen to find out!
Meanwhile, Olivia Wilde’s ‘The Invite’ gets a wide release, and we watched the trailer for ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’.
