2026/10/21
Lital and Edward are joined by Jon Piper from the Partisan Defense Committee, Hannah, a supporter of the Prairieland defense effort, and Cam, one of the defendants in the ongoing witchhunt by the Trump administration in the Minnesota 15 case. We talk about the Trump regime's persecution of anti-ICE activists, zoom in on both these important cases, and explain why everyone on the left should be taking up the defense of the Prairieland defendants and the Minnesota 15. You can follow the work of the Partisan Defense Committee on Instagram and X. Check out their website! The PDC-initiated united-front rally in defense of the Prairieland defendants is coming up on October 24. The Crisis in DSA: What is to be done?
2026/10/12
Lital and Edward sit down for a special episode to discuss the unfolding crisis in NYC-DSA, sparked first by his funding of Zionist groups to "fight anti-semitism," deepened by his showing up at a liberal Zionist vigil on October 7th, then capped off by sending NYPD to repress anti-ICE demonstrators after ICE shot a man in the Bronx earlier this week. We talk about the bureaucratic repression of YDSA by the NYC-DSA Steering Committee, the false effort to throw everything on Tisch and get Mamdani off the hook (promoted by Darializa and the DSA Right alike) and how to go forward. As always, you can find all of JBA's resolutions, petitions, statements and everything else we're up to at our Linktree! Follow us on X @cleanbreaknow and on Instagram @dsa_justbreakalready. Clean Breakers of the DSA, Unite!
2026/10/12
Lital and Edward are joined by Stephen from International Socialist Alternative - Revolutionary (ISA-R) and Em from Labor Militant to discuss the launch of the United Front for a Clean Break in the DSA. JBA, ISA-R, and LM launched the United Front in September and we present both the recording from our first national Zoom call and some commentary on our points of unity in this episode as well as what's been going on lately in DSA between the Raman endorsement and Mamdani's move to give millions to Zionist groups to "combat anti-semitism." You can find our points of unity on the United Front for a Clean Break's socials, we're on Instagram and X. To join the UFCB, shoot us a DM! We are planning a subsequent national Zoom call, which we'll announce on our socials – stay tuned. They are on X @Intl_SocAlt_Rev and on Instagram @isa_revolutionary. You can find Labor Militant on X here and here on Instagram. Let’s talk DSA-LA: Why we’re not knocking doors for Zionist, pro-cop Nithya and you shouldn’t either!
2026/09/27
Lital and Edward are joined by Julie from JBA-LA and Lindsay from International Socialist Alternative (Revolutionary) to talk about the battle in DSA-LA over endorsing Zionist cop-lover Nithya Raman for mayor. Despite a spirited effort by these comrades and even a split on the DSA Right (who'd have thought?), Raman was endorsed by the LA branch and is facing off against another "progressive" Dem, Karen Bass (supported by every DSAer on the city council) in November. We talk about the situation in LA today, what socialists should be doing instead of door-knocking for Dems, and much, much more! You can find all of ISA-R's publications on their Linktree. They are on X @Intl_SocAlt_Rev and on Instagram @isa_revolutionary. As always, you kind find all of JBA's resolutions, petitions, statements and everything else we're up to at our Linktree! Saving Debs from His Epigones
2026/09/15
Lital and Edward are joined by Professor Jacob Zumoff to save Eugene Debs from his many self-professed disciples. We talk Debs' views on everything from industrial unionism to class independence to black liberation and anti-imperialism...and why Sanders, Mamdani, and AOC claiming him would have the father of American socialism rolling in his grave. Jacob is a research associate at the Prometheus Research Library, which you can follow on X and email at [email protected] if you'd like to visit! The PRL has an event coming up on September 24th featuring Jacob's book, The Red Thread, which you can register to attend here. Also make sure to check out Jacob's book The Communist International and U.S. Communism, 1919-1929. Labor Battle at C&H Sugar–Defend the Crockett 10!
2026/09/01
Lital and Edward are joined by Emily Turnbull, retired longshore worker and former member of ILWU Local 10's executive board, and Max from JBA in East Bay DSA to discuss the battle at C&H Sugar and the fight to defend the Crockett 10, trade unionists and socialists facing potential prosecution after cops charged the picket line they were on in July. We discuss the united front rally outside the courthouse in defense of the Crockett 10, how the strike is connected to the battle to defend Cuba and get justice for the Negros 19 in the Philippines, what East Bay DSA has (and hasn't) done to drive struggle forward, and what's next for the ILWU and JBA in East Bay DSA. You can follow Emily for updates @EmilyTurnbullLocal10 on Instagram. As always, you kind find all of JBA's resolutions, petitions, statements and everything else we're up to at our Linktree! Why is it so hard for DSA to endorse independent socialists?
2026/08/20
Lital and Edward are joined by Dan from International Socialist Alternative (Revolutionary) for a postmortem on the Sawant campaign. Dan recently wrote a letter to Cosmonaut replying to Socialist Majority Caucus support David Duhalde on the question of DSA endorsing Sawant. DSA didn't endorse Sawant in a pretty brazen display of sectarianism, and all wings of DSA celebrated her not making it past the primary to face off against arch-Zionist Adam Smith. Despite that, Sawant got an impressive 17% of the vote (nearly 25,000 votes). You can find all of ISA-R's publications on their Linktree. They are on X @Intl_SocAlt_Rev and on Instagram @isa_revolutionary. As always, you kind find all of JBA's resolutions, petitions, statements and everything else we're up to at our Linktree! Black August: Why Fight for Black Freedom is Key to Fight for Socialism
2026/08/10
Lital and Edward are joined by Jack and Brian from Chicago JBA to discuss why DSA must put the fight for black liberation front-and-center to advance working-class struggle today. We take up the age-old question "Why is DSA so white?" and make a pitch for a concrete plan to fight racist cop terror with the call to open police archives, as opposed to both colorblind economism and BLM liberalism. You can find the website of the Open Police Archives campaign here. They are @opa_now on X and @openpolicearchives on Instagram. They also have a YouTube page. The Chicago OPA Committee will be meeting this Saturday, August 15 at the Woodson Regional Library (9525 S Halstead) at 3:30pm. If you're in Chicago or the Midwest and can't attend in-person, there's also a Zoom call you can join. Find more information on the cases the OPA campaign is taking up, endorse the campaign and for all updated event information, check the OPA website. The Chicago branch of Just Break Already will be having it's first ever in-person get together on August 22nd. Register here if you'd like to attend! You can find all of our petitions, resolutions, statements, and everything else we've been up to at the Just Break Already linktree. Follow us on X and Instagram! We also have a YouTube page where we upload these episodes, too. Leave us a comment, we ready all of 'em! DSA: Which Side Are You On? Vote Working Class! Vote Sawant on August 4th!
2026/07/24
Lital and Edward are joined by Summer and Em from Labor Militant and United front for a Workers Party to discuss Kshama Sawant's independent socialist campaign for Washington's 9th Congressional District. We do a deep dive into why every socialist should vote for Kshama, the dynamics within DSA and the broader left and why so many self-described socialists are sitting this race out (sectarianism!), where the working-class is at right now and why Kshama's dalliances with the Greens undermine her campaign. Since we recorded this episode, Kshama has endorsed Andre Easton's campaign in the Bronx, a positive development! You can find Labor Militant on X here and here on Instagram.  You can find United Front for a Workers Party here on X, here on Instagram, here on Facebook, and here on TikTok. To sign up for the August 1st phonebank for Kshama, the August 8th Socialist Town Hall in Seattle, or UFWP's August National Meeting, click here. If you'd like to hear more about the clown car of characters running against Kshama, check out UFWP's latest articles here. For background on the 2024 IAM strike at Boeing, check out these articles from Workers Vanguard. Also worth reading: a letter by Movement for Kshama, an initiative of UFWP that responds to Kshama's sectarianism, republished in Workers Vanguard. As always, you can follow the work of the Just Break Already Caucus at our linktree, where we post all of our statements, petitions, and resolutions. You can also follow us on X and Instagram. We're always looking to debate others on the DSA Left. If that describes you, shoot us a DM! We'd be happy to have you on. Send us Fan Mail
DSA: Defend Cuba! Fight U.S. Imperialism! All out on July 17th!
2026/07/10
Lital and Edward are once again joined by Monica, who has been helping organize a united-front demonstration in defense of Cuba happening in New York City (and elsewhere!) on July 17th. We talk about why it's essential to fight to defend the gains of the Cuban Revolution against U.S. imperialism, why the Communist Party's market reforms are throwing open the doors wide for the gusanos and U.S. rulers to foment counterrevolution, and what socialists and anti-imperialists can do right now in the belly of the beast to fight back. JBA recently put out a statement outlining what DSA should do to defend Cuba, which you can read here. To read all our statements, resolutions, and petitions (and see what else we've been up to lately), check out our Linktree, follow us on X and on Instagram. Hate what you heard? Love it? Want some more of it? Send us your comments, commentary, love letters and hate mail! We eagerly await your feedback, and the best way to reach out is through our DMs, which are always open. We're also interested in debating the way forward in DSA, so if you're from another contest and want to debate, hit us up! Send us Fan Mail
Special Episode: The DSA "Red Wave" That Wasn't
2026/07/07
In a special episode of Gimme a Break! Lital and Edward are joined by Tom from Transit Workers for a Fighting Union to talk about the supposed "Red Wave" elections in NYC that has so many DSAers celebrating. Sorry, we're here to burst your bubble. Tom explains how workers really see DSA as little different than the liberal Dems who make it impossible for them to live in NYC and made their lives a living hell. We also talk about Melat Kiros' win in Colorado and pour water on the notion this represents a real leap into national relevance for DSA. You can follow TWFU on Facebook and X. Follow all the work of the Just Break Already Caucus at our Linktree, where we post all of our statements, resolutions, petitions, and everything else we've been up to lately. You can follow us on X and on Instagram, too!  Like what you heard? Hate what you heard? So upset about it you wanna come on the show and debate us about it? Our DMs are always open, send us one! We'd love to have comrades from other caucuses in DSA join us in debating the way forward for DSA. Send us Fan Mail
Labor Notes at a Dead End and How to Get a Fighting Labor Movement: Discussion with Elliot from COFTU and Chantelle from MCU & TM
2026/07/06
Lital and Edward are joined by Elliot from the Committee for One Fighting Transit Union (COFTU) and Chantelle from the Maoist Communist Union (MCU) and Teamsters Mobilize (TM) to talk last month's Labor Notes conference. Both were part of a panel held the same weekend as Labor Notes, "A Militant Critique of Labor Notes: For a Fighting Workers Movement," and talk both their experiences on the job, at Labor Notes, and what strategy is needed to rebuild the labor movement in the United States. Not surprisingly, they don't see DSA's current labor strategy as being up to snuff. You can check out the panel Elliot and Chantelle participated in at Labor Notes here.  The Committee for One Fighting Transit Union's website can be found here and you can follow them on X and on Instagram. You can find the Maoist Communist Union on their website, on Instagram, and on YouTube. They also have a Telegram channel. DSA: Fight Mamdani's Privatization! Defend the Projects!
2026/06/26
Lital and Edward are joined by Anissa from Adolfina and Tenants Against Privatization (TAP) and Mika from the Defend the Projects Committee to discuss Mamdani's plan to privatize public housing, how tenants are fighting back against the "socialist" mayor scheming with real estate interests to screw black and brown New Yorkers, the link between the fight to defend public housing and the Puerto Rican struggle against imperialism, and why DSAers should fight Zohran to save public housing. You can follow Adolfina @adolfinabk on Instagram, TAP @tap_ny on Instagram, and the Defense the Projects Committee @defendtheprojectscommittee on Instagram. DSA: To Fight U.S. Imperialism—Defend Iran, Break from Dems!
2026/06/16
***This episode was recorded before the latest "ceasefire."*** Lital and Edward are joined by Tara from Chicago to discuss JBA's effort to put forward a resolution calling for Chicago DSA to take a side with Iran in the US-Iran War. We talk about what arguments were raised against the resolution, how we got bumped off the agenda "for lack of time" twice, and why its in the interests of American workers to stand with Iran and fight for the defeat of the U.S. and Israel in this reactionary war. You can find our original resolution, "Mobilize Labor to Defend Iran!" here:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DT_3UCf9NrKsZlVM_9rLNdSxCWVU8iSl/view You can also read our reply to Bread & Roses here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cbOTC_s4n13PI75Hbd_JZElLJGs07VPR/view Follow Gimme a Break! and subscribe if you haven't already wherever you get your podcasts. Actual left politics
This show fills a giant vacuum in the DSA. It takes on the real controversial questions. It sticks to politics and program, not procedure and personal...
